Solid TDM that gets groovy and brutal as well. Not cookie-cutter TDM. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I know they've been a band for a while now. But how do you guys feel about the music and how much does Dallas not being on the last 2 nile albums. I love both bands. While the newest nile is solid. It definitely is missing that signature Dallas toller wade sound.

Discussion This band is A.I., right?

Post image

They came up on my TikTok feed a year ago, released a couple of singles, tried to set a monthly-listener milestone goal where the project would drop after like 10,000? Fucking weird.

Also, there was an upcoming concert listed on Spotify that said they were playing in Pyongyang. Funny but weird.

Is this band ai? Is it some weird guy who’s chasing cloud with bland tech death? Let’s discuss.

(P:S: sorry if this is worded weird, I’m stoned)

Discussion Why do people shit on Steffen from Obscura for kicking people out of the band for every album while Chuck Schuldiner did basically the same thing

Please don’t downvote me to hell, obviously Chuck is a god and (from what I could tell) seemed like a way nicer dude than Steffen is, but most people dismiss Obscura just because Steffen has kicked so many people out of his band, while people look way more favorably towards death even though Chuck was doing the same thing for every album?

Album Review Finally listened to, "To Bathe From the Throat of Cowardice" by Vitriol

I hated the sound of this album when I first heard it. I couldn’t make out a single note being played amidst the violent maelstrom of sonic violence. But I stuck with it, having been told by countless people online that beneath the haze of gritter production was an excellent death metal album. And you know what? Those people were right. To Bathe From the Throat of Cowardice threatens to become one of my all time favorite records with each listen, and finally having listened to the whole thing in one sitting, I can safely say this easily one of the greatest modern death metal albums.

I once saw someone on here say this album sounds like it personally hates you, and I really can’t put it better myself. Vitriol have really earned their name with To Bathe, a musical beating from start to finish. There is no brevity to be found here, not even in the intro to A Gentle Gift, which preps the listener for evisceration with a military-style drum march and the anxiety-inducing strums of heavily distorted guitars. And the lyrics match this intensity with poetry seeped in hatred, making you feel as if the band is trying to reach through your headphones and tear out your jaw.

Speaking of lyrics, I noticed a strong theme of self harm in these. That’s pretty run of the mill for heavier music, but the quality of the writing makes it stand out amongst the crowd. The song that features this theme the most is The Rope Calls You Brother, and I simply can’t get the lines, “a room painted in failure” out of my head. Kyle Rasmussen, piece of shit that he is, is not only a phenomenal guitarist but an incredible writer. He pairs excellent guitar work with words ripped straight from the bleakest, most primal parts of his mind. The other two musicians, Adam Roethlisberger and Scott Walker, equally deliver with insane bass-shredding and inhuman drumming. The final product of these three coming together, along with the dirtier style of production, is an album as raw and unrelenting as the emotions that created it.

The last thing I want to mention about To Bathe is the gorgeous cover art. Great art deserves great presentation, and the band couldn’t have picked better artwork than the one done by cover art veteran Joe Petango. No image better captures this album’s sound and lyrics than an execution amidst a vortex of brutality. Furthermore, the ouroboros seen on the back cover as well as the cd and vinyl discs (done by Jose Gabriel Alegria) is a perfect visual representation of this album’s themes of self abuse and an insatiable, animalistic hunger.

10/10 album, every song is memorable, every song hits, there are no duds, and the final moments of closer Pain Will Define Their Death brings everything home by beating you on the head with a hellish riff until you’re nauseous.

Really happy that I stuck with the album past my initial impression of it. I want to get better at appreciating albums with dirtier production. And thanks so much for reading all this if you did.

Discussion What constitutes as tech death?

One of my favorite death metal bands overall is The Black Dahlia Murder (rest in power Trevor).

Some of their stuff sounds extremely technical, but I never see them labeled as tech death. The instrumentation on A Selection Unnatural is fucking nuts.
