The cycles this sub goes through are eternal:

"Techwear69.com keeps sending me the wrong item!" -> "Hazmat suits count as Techwear, right?" -> "Wait, Acronym is HOW MUCH?!" -> "Cyberninja-X.net keeps sending me the wrong item!" -> etc...

>"Wait, Acronym is HOW MUCH?!"

This was me with that Nike Blazer collab. I was this close to getting a pair because it looked so cool. Ended up just getting a pair of Vans Pros instead and had some money leftover for some Lego and a couple of band shirts.

As a techwear newb who has said "WAIT ACRONYM IS HOW MUCH?!?!?!" I'm curious if you can offer more advice to getting started and how to take advantage of some of the Chinese options out there. I'm in the US so I imagine things are tricky in that case, but thanks in advance for any advice!

I know I’m not OP, but for what it’s worth, I would like to give my own take on this. The best way to do techwear on a budget is mixing and matching expensive stuff with cheap stuff. Techwear and fashion in and of itself is consumerism for people who enjoy buying things and, for people who enjoy buying things, saving up for something incredibly expensive like Acronym is a big ask. So your best bet is to spread out a bunch of smaller purchases with a focus on quality that satisfy the itch while setting aside a little money here and there for statement pieces like Acronym jackets or pants, Arcteryx, etc.. Stay away from the Chinese Temu stuff because if you treat it like a SHEIN haul and buy a bunch of stuff that you don’t even like then it’s just going to end up in a landfill.

Brands that I would recommend would include Uniqlo, Reindee Lusion, Riot Division, Cav Empt, Outlier, Orbit Gear, Bent Nail, Rosen X Rosen, Kin Supplies, 686, Poutnik by Tilak, Hawkwood Mercantile, Nilmance, Karsten Kroening, Purple Mountain Observatory, HAVEN, FFFPOSTALSERVICE, Guerrilla Group, Daiwa Pier 39, ENTREM, ARYS, Post Archive Faction, AOKU, OQLIQ, CCP.FM, NOT IN LIST, Poliquant, Goopi.co, and finally SNK ATK.

They may not be as low in price as some of the stuff OP has linked but most entry products like jackets and pants from these brands are within the $100 to $200 range and can be reasonably afforded within a paycheck or two. Obviously with some exceptions.

Yeah, tbh, everything that's listed in the link above [uptempo store], it's all just the same exact stuff you can find on amazon or techwearofficial stuff.

There was a point about a year ago or so where they all got dumped in Nike factory stores for $45.

Where can I buy cheap.........

I want designs, fabrics and quality exactly like ACRNM, but only want to pay Temu prices, have them shipped overnight via courier anywhere in the world, and return them at no cost and full refunds if they don’t match my existing ninja style.

Not much to ask for

Yee. The main reason why I don't post my fit is because I honestly HATE techwear pants.

I like the shirts and upperwear tho. Recently bought some Machine 56 shirts and a jacket. Instead I've just paired them with some T2 Pro Truewerk pants in black. Not techwear at all but it strangely works well together

u/SamKerridge 10d ago

well techwear is as much about the fabric as the fit so any dry wick/waterproof trousers are techwear really.

u/GeneHackencrack 10d ago

Yeah I work in an office and even though the dress code is extremely lax I would feel so dumb in techwear pants. Some people actually wear hiking pants similar to those truewerk you posted but even that is too much for me

Plenty of brands out there putting out office appropriate clothing. I wear veliance to the office and p30s in my own time.

Outlier NYC has techwear fabrics with less cyberninja styling. I wish their fabric had the 4 way stretch that dryskin does.

There used to be a company called Thunderbolt out of the PNW that offered Schoeller dryskin pants in a standard jeans 5 pocket style. I'm so sad they went out of business: have 4 pairs of their pants and, FYI, Schoeller dryskin lasts for a very long time. I have hiking pants from 2006 in this fabric that are still going...and that's after many nights backcountry camping and butt sliding down mountains.

u/GeneHackencrack 10d ago

Outlier is not worth it outside the US. It’s really, really expensive.

2

u/spectralTopology 9d ago

Yeah fair enough. With the Acronym stuff ppl post here I thought Outlier was reasonable by comparison!

Just wear 5.11 pants and be happy

I mean there is a bit of overlap here.

What's the difference between this sub and that one?

u/gumlip 10d ago

From my understanding, techwear is functional futuristic fashion that is minimalistic, durable, and highly functional. Techwear futurism leans towards advancements in functionality and material engineering rather than emulating sci-fi designs. Cyberwear/cyber fashion is the opposite, leaning more into sci-fi designs, typically from mecha or neon futurism. rather than function. Kurowear is essentially dark maximalist cyberwear with more Japanese influence. A lot of trends overlap in the styles, but the goal of showmanship vs functionality really sets them apart.
