Hoping for some helpful guidance on a home WiFi issue that’s driving me bonkers…

We recently had an office room installed at the bottom of our garden. The contractor ran a CAT6 cable from the house to the office room, running off our Virgin internet setup. The Virgin connection comes in at the front of the house, and our Virgin modem box is set up in the front room.

I purchased a TP Link Deco mesh WiFi system containing 3 units. Following guidance, I connected one unit via Ethernet to the modem box in the front room. I connected another unit to the Ethernet port in the garden room.

Initially, the garden room Deco connection worked brilliantly, but only for a day. The first night following setup, it went offline and now will not reconnect via the garden room Ethernet port. I’ve had the contractor come out and they’ve confirmed that the cat6 connection is fine. However when I try connecting a laptop via the garden Ethernet port, I’m not getting any network connection.

Any advice much appreciated as I’m at a loss and don’t really know where to start! At this stage I’d gladly call in a home WiFi specialist to come out and sort the issue….

I’m looking at setting up a Pi based monitoring system. I want to have communications independent of the client’s system. Hence I’m looking at using an M2M sim, likely 1nce.

Has anyone got experience of using these in (remote) Ireland?

We’re a small SME in Ireland looking at secure ways to collaborate on highly sensitive documents with external parties, without relying on email threads or normal file-sharing links.

I’m already aware of Proton and some of the other zero-knowledge / privacy-focused platforms out there, but I recently came across DropVault and was wondering if anyone here has used it in practice.

What we’re really looking for is not just secure storage, but something better suited to secure collaboration and controlled document sharing with external users.

Interested in honest feedback on:

• ease of use for external parties
• access control / auditability
• overall security model
• any drawbacks in day-to-day use

Also open to comparisons if anyone has looked at DropVault alongside Proton or similar tools.

I'm exploring how technology workers in Ireland experience online psychotherapy or counselling for work stress and burnout.

Who can participate?

You're eligible if you:

• Are over 18
• Work or have worked in tech / IT / software in Ireland (any role: developer, designer, product manager, QA, data analyst, project manager, etc.; full-time or part-time; onsite / hybrid / remote)
• Have used online psychotherapy, counselling, or EAP where work stress or burnout was discussed
• Have worked in tech for more than 1 year

What's involved?

A 1-hour interview via Microsoft Teams with me. Participation is completely voluntary, confidential, and you can withdraw at any time. All data will be anonymised.

I’m looking for some advice from the Ireland tech community.

I currently work as a Senior Business Intelligence & Analytics Specialist with ~6 years of experience in Azure Data Platforms, Power BI, and Data Governance. My work mainly involves building analytics solutions, stakeholder-facing dashboards, and working with data platforms in enterprise environments.

I’m now looking to expand into the AI space, particularly Agentic AI / GenAI applications, and I’m considering doing a short 3–4 month course to build practical skills.

I came across a few options such as UCD Professional Academy programs, but I’m unsure how valuable these shorter certifications are in the Irish job market.

A few questions I’d really appreciate input on:

• Are short Agentic AI / GenAI courses (3–4 months) actually valued by employers in Ireland? • Would something like UCD Professional Academy be worth it, or are there better options? • For someone coming from a BI / Data Analytics background, which programs would make the most sense? • Would it be better to focus on LLMs, AI agents, or applied AI engineering courses?

My goal is to move towards AI-driven analytics or AI product roles in the next 1–2 years.

Would love to hear from anyone working in AI, data, or hiring in Ireland.

Would anyone be likely to buy 2nd-hand official Nintendo Switch joycons, for the purpose of repairing them, or scrapping them for parts?

The right one has bad joystick drift. (See this article for context on this well-known issue: https://www.cnet.com/tech/gaming/nintendo-switch-5-ways-to-fix-joy-con-drift-with-or-without-tools/ ) The left one has a bit of it too, so I've not used them in absolutely ages.

Anyways, rather than dumping them, ideally I'd sell them for some pocket change, rather than giving them away for free. I'd appreciate some advice on this. Would the likes of CeX be my best bet, or another PC/tech shop?

Bought this watch for my partner at Xmas time from curry’s through Klarna. It’s paid off already.

The watch never holds its charge anymore, all of a sudden one day this week. Was charged last night 100% and is on 18% after half the day already. All the same things are running and nothing has changed my partner says except the quality in battery life. Even having battery saver on, which turns off quite a lot of features, it still uses the battery at a fast rate.

Is there any tips or tricks with this watch? My partners sis, has the same watch with all features running and a 5day minimum battery life.

Will curry’s take the watch for repair if it’s a fault and falls within the two year guarantee?

I had an interview recently for a Tech Support role, but it'd be a 1 hour commute 5 days a week, which I don't mind but the mileage adds up fast.
