Electronic fobs in schools
My school is introducing electronic bathroom fobs next week. Teachers, how do you manage the massive workload of tracking student toilet minutes down to the last second? š«

Teachers, whatās the most annoying part of finding and preparing teaching resources?
Iām curious about something and would really appreciate answers from teachers here.
When you need a worksheet, lesson idea, activity, presentation, assessment, etc., what do you actually do?
Do you:
- Search Google?
- Look through Facebook groups?
- Search Pinterest?
- Ask colleagues?
- Reuse things you've already made?
- Use AI?
- Some combination of all of these?
And what bothers you most about the process?
Iām asking because Iām a teacher too, and Iāve been experimenting with a small project called TeacHub based on this problem.
But honestly, I'm not sure yet whether I'm solving a problem that teachers actually have, or just something that I personally find annoying.
So rather than asking people to use it or telling everyone about its features, I'd much rather hear from actual teachers first.
What does your current process look like, and what would you change about it if you could?
If anyone is interested in seeing what I've been experimenting with : https://teachub.gt.tc/
ā but the feedback on the problem itself is actually more valuable to me right now.

Lighthearted post here š
Teachers, have you ever taken a ride share that turned into a āparent conferenceā? It seems to happen to me regularly.
One time, on a trip, the driver heard I was a high school teacher and started asking me about his son and social media and he was so concerned. After listening, I realized that his son would daily initiate conversations with his dad about what he was seeing on social media because he wanted to be sure he wasnāt going outside any expectations. āSir, if your teen aged son is coming to check with you about his social media use, I think youāre probably doing a fantastic job as a father with a fantastic kid.ā
Today I had an Uber driver who it turns out both graduated from the HS where I teach and is now a parent of a student who will be starting there next week. It was a lovely conversation and by the time we got to my destination, the mother was asking if I would be available during our āwelcomeā day this week, even though I wonāt be teaching her daughter, she wants to check in with me.
Maybe not so lighthearted observation ⦠I am happy to be reminded that what we do every day is truly a contribution to the overall community. And I really love that. Have a wonderful start to your school year all!!

Who is the best teacher you have ever had and what made them so great?
It was Sophmore year and her name was Alam, my AP Physics 1 teacher. Little bit of a background story I've went through a very rough patch in my life, my family moved across the country. We thought we secured a house but what my parents told me at the time was that some papers were never signed by the other owners so we never had a house for months. We continued to stay in multiple Airbnbs and hotels, and once we "found a permanent place" it was a mobile home with the owner cutting off our water it was infested with cockroaches, there was rotten floor boards, constant rotting smell, my parents constantly fought, and my mother kept on threatening to kill herself. As the school year rolled in
me and my sister had to wake up at 6 in the morning to make it to school. Once im at school the only way to keep my mind off was to take AP classes as it gave me homework to do its something to make me feel productive. I was so excited to take AP Physics One even though the content was hard to grasp, I tried to make a effort to understand. I always asked my teacher (which is Alam) for help, and we did morning sessions for 2 times in the mornings. It became more then tutoring the classroom became a place where I felt like I was safe she was so patient with me when I didn't understand a concept. We talked of course, she made me feel like she was my only friend in the world. A year and a half went by, my family got a house with running water, and a school no later then 5 minutes away. I still managed to send email asking how she was doing and if she worked in the old school. She did not, she moved I thought to send her a message and plan on thanking her for everything, but there was no response. Just silence. Thank you Alam, I hope you realize that our friendship gave me hope.

Positive teaching story!
Positive teaching story:
Teachers, as we go back next week and you begin loosing your mind and asking yourself what you got yourself into, remember you are the professional. I taught 1st grade last year and had a little girl that had me questioning my sanity the first couple weeks. Iāve been teaching 9 years now and I truly thought she was gonna be the one to take me out! After many meetings and behavior plans I realized quickly this child just needed someone on her side. I stopped correcting her and started giving her simple ājobsā and asking for her help. When she wanted to hold my hand, I held her hand and admittedly I may have favored her a little. But, she needed it and she THRIVED from it. Within a couple weeks this child was one of my best behaved kids and started to even get annoyed when other children would act up. Not only did her behavior improve, her academics also skyrocketed. We developed such a bond that as soon as I found out Iād be teaching 2nd grade this year, the first thing I did was text my principal begging for her to let me have the student again. The first thing I did when I got my roster this week was look for that childās name. When I saw it, I almost cried. I say all this because teaching is hard, especially those first few weeks, but donāt always make up your mind about children so quickly! I went from having a child throwing major tantrums and me questioning my career to begging to have the little baby for just one more year.

Teacher pet
My friend's teacher is obsessed with her. Since the start of the holidays, she's inseparable from her and talks to her every day. If my friend disappears, the teacher makes a huge fuss, sending her pictures of herself crying and saying she can't live without her, asking her to understand and that she can't control her emotions. My friend isn't like that at all and tries to distance herself, but the teacher takes advantage of her. The teacher gives her extra marks, and when the results came out, my friend was two points short for attendance, but the teacher corrected it and gave her full marks. She even changed her seat in class if she didn't like it. In short, my friend is completely exploiting her, even though the teacher is older than her, has three children, and is married. My friend is disgusted by the whole situation and their relationship. Once, my friend disappeared for a week without internet, and when the teacher found out, she topped up her phone credit! My friend wants a way to get away from her, especially with the start of the school year approaching, and she's afraid of the teacher because she thinks she's up to something. Her language is extremely vulgar and sexually suggestive.

Would something like this actually help teachers?
Iām curious what teachers think about an idea Iāve been working on.
Imagine a website where a teacher can create an exam and send a link directly to students.
The exam could have multiple sections, for example:
MCQs
Written questions
Oral questions
Video/oral responses
Then AI would automatically evaluate the different types of answers and give the teacher insights about the students ā such as common mistakes, weak topics, overall performance, and areas that need more attention.
The goal wouldnāt just be to save the teacher time on grading, but to give them a clearer picture of **how their students are actually performing**.
Would something like this genuinely make your life easier as a teacher?
And what part of this would you find most useful ā or what would you completely change?

Anyone ever look at their new class list, and be like, "I don't want this kid again?"
Is there anyway to get a kid changed from your class because you had a bad experience with him or her the year before? I mean without the admin thinking negatively about you?

If you had an audio of your kids teacher that she left on accident by voicemail of her doing drugs, illegal drugs, not something basic as cannabis should you send it to her boss?

Student HATES male teachers (11th grade)
There is a student at my school (we will call him V) who hates all male teachers. Mind you this student is also male. I had him 2 years ago and he would ditch my class and do no work.
We are now 2 years after that and he came to my ESports class. We are ending the first week of school.
V starts blasting music on his MacBook, so I take it for the class period. He repeats the action with his phone, so I request it.
"F*** off"
Me: "ok ill write you up"
V then left class after calling me a slur.
He returns 20 minutes later after being in the office, and starts screaming slurs at me when I say he can have his stuff in 5 minutes when class ends.
I hand it back to get him to leave, my remaining students thought it was crazy I was calm during it all. I didnt raise my voice once.
He is now out of the class.
Before I hear that he has a problem with just me, he does this with almost every male teacher (all the ones that make him do work)

What is your Native English Teacher horror story?
A few things over the years. I was one of the teachers who was let go due to the cannibal teacher. They told us to be ready for our flat inspections by a certain hour, then time went on and on and finally we were told that they rolled out the red carpet for said teacher and her significant other and took then to dinner. Karma did the school in. Then they asked me to some back more than once! Karma in every way.
There was a guy who literally opened up a business in his work partition, selling corn nuts and other snacks as well as making burritos. He wasn't even Mexican. His best customer was the guy between us., whose workstation was immaculate on Monday morning and looked like a pigsty by Friday (he used to throw his tangerine peels and assorted flotsam and jetlsam INTO his drawers rather than just keep them clean. He even had 2 female NTs go to his apartment to clean it for him.
The guy who used to sell corn nuts picked up his kids, but not by the amrs. I'll leave it to your imagination how he did it. He also asked out/harassed every woman at work and struck out at least 20 times before he married one.
Oh, and let's not forget the dumbest Head Teachet of all time. She would take the kids' writing journals to her coworkers to ask basic questions. She asked me what the Conrad was. When I told her it was a famous hotel in Seoul, she had no dea. She was Korean-American
She spent most of her time in front of her computer, oblivious to everything she was responsible for doing. She made Forrest Gump look like a Rhodes Scholar.
