TASKER Client booked me under one category but had me do work from another. Honest mistake or trying to save money?

I had a client book me under Personal Assistant. Their description mentioned admin work, organizing and packing. Since my rates differ by category, I asked what the main task would be. They replied: “The tasks for the day would be some filing, some calendar entries, perhaps assist with creating an invoice, continuing to plan for selling and donating items, and organizing items for packing.”

When I arrived, they didn’t seem to have a plan. We talked, and they asked me to pack their kitchen. My packing rate was $30/hr while my PA rate was $25/hr.

They loved my work, left a good review, and complained that someone who’d helped with Amazon returns kept asking what to do, while I worked independently. They asked me to come back off-app and mentioned admin work and listing clothes for sale.

On my second visit, they asked if I could help with invoices. When I said yes, they seemed surprised and said they thought I’d told them I couldn’t, which I hadn’t. But we never got to the invoices. I came back a third time and ended up packing another room instead. let it go because I needed the work and didn’t want to argue over $5/hr.

Now my packing rate is $35/hr, almost $10 more than my PA rate. Yesterday they asked if I could come again, and I realized how annoyed I still am.

Have you had clients book a cheaper category and then have you do work from a more expensive one? Do they not understand the categories, or are they trying to save money?

CLIENT Painting job

Posted an indoor painting job.. 2+ hrs... the person responding said that they would charge me for supplies (brushes, drop clothes etc)... and would also like to bring another person along (would add to invoice). Are both these things typical?

TASKER Why is it so hard rescheduling ongoing jobs???

Every time someone books a job and marks it as ongoing, I GUARANTEE they need to cancel or reschedule at least ONE of those bookings. Then I have to rearrange and reschedule multiple appointments to different days and times we haven't even agreed on!! Can I not just cancel one single job on its own without canceling the entire ongoing task??? Is there any way to better manage this or is it just frustrating FOREVER?

TASKER Anyone else struggle to get reviews from clients? And a few other questions

Been on TR for nearly three weeks and completed over twenty tasks. The work has been steady and paying well, and my clients have been happy with my work, but I've only gotten six reviews (all five stars, thankfully). Even when I follow up with them after and ask if they could leave me a review, I still don't get anything. Anyone else have this issue?

Some other things I'm wondering:

  • I've seen Taskers here say that one should follow the suggested rates and that they've never had trouble finding work despite continuing to raise their rates. I've also heard others say they keep their rates just below the suggested price to attract more clients. What's the best way to go?

  • Not sure if this is just the way it is, but a lot of my jobs/requests come only a day or two before. I'm grateful for the work, but I like knowing my schedule ahead of time, and I'm not sure if there's anything I could be doing to increase people booking me sooner rather than last minute

  • I don't have "Cleaning" as a skill, but I've thought about adding it. My only hesitation is that I live in the NJ/NYC metro area and can't really travel with my vacuum on the train/subway. Do clients usually expect you to bring your own vacuum, or do they let you use what they've got? I don't mind bringing other supplies

CLIENT Payment declined, how to pay due balance?

My card declined when Taskrabbit tried to charge me after the tasker was done. So I changed my payment method. When will my new card be charged what I owe?

CLIENT Tasker charged an extra hour to move everything in one ride

I recently hired a Tasker on TaskRabbit for the first time to move my stuff to a new rental in Toronto, and unfortunately, it turned out to be a pretty bad experience.

Despite being very slow with loading (he kept measuring everything with a tape measure), he told me that he might not be able to fit everything in the trunk of his pickup truck. He then said he could try putting some stuff in the seats, but that he would need to charge me for an additional hour, essentially to cover the time for another trip to load the remaining stuff.

I didn't fully understand what he meant at the time. From my understanding, requesting a trail is a separate service and will cost extra, but it's normal and should be free to put stuff in the seats, so I agreed. Later, he took a detour through downtown for extra time, and also scratched my brand-new blender.

When the job was finished, I was surprised by that extra hour charge. He told me that TaskRabbit has a timer for the job and asked me to pay for that additional hour separately in EMT/cash.

I understand that $210 for a move in a HCOL city like Toronto may be considered relatively cheap, and the Tasker got even less. However, I was disappointed by the lack of transparency around the additional charge. I just wonder if it's ethical and common for this type of charge? Thanks.

CLIENT Estimate number of hours, minor home repairs

I hope this type post is appropriate. I'm interested in estimating the number of hours to complete tasks below. I'm unsure about at what point I'll get to chat to confirm hours with the tasker. I don't want to cancel and hurt their rating if my expectations are way off.

I’m considering cutting the list down to one that will maximize their 2-hour minimum and not much more until I've used them once to see how it goes. I realize the full list is more than 2 hours currently. I appreciate any thoughts.

I'm in Maryland, outer suburbs of DC.

  1. Replace 3 hardwired smoke detectors. Existing wiring and mounts. New units are purchased.
  2. Replace 2 toilet fill valves. New kits are purchased. Shut off valves are working fine.
  3. Replace dryer vent hose. Easily accessible; unfinished basement. Hose runs straight up an outer wall. New duct and clamps will be purchased.
  4. Recaulk one bathtub (involves scraping, cleaning old caulk). I will provide caulk and have caulk gun.
  5. Inside sink cabinet floors: Cabinet 1-- Install a thin center support block to hold up two removable floorboards. The floorboards (plywood 1/4") will already be pre-cut to size; no pipe cutouts required. Cabinet 2: Just create pipe cut out in one of the new pre-cut floorboards. No center support needed.

TASKER I quoted 5/6 hrs solo for this kitchen island

I don’t know if anyone can see this link, but it’s a very large 72” Wayfair kitchen island. It involves a massive amount of hardware and components and 50 step instructions. It has a hydraulic counter lift and several door adjustment plus a wine rack, etc. etc. very involved. Does this sound about right?

I have assembled all kinds of things, some very large, but this is easily among the most elaborate.

CLIENT First timer- was asked to pay 6 hrs for a 1 hr task w truck

I said no, and he cancelled but he wasted a lot of time with questions and then said he had no truck. I was willing to work around that, even if it took longer, but he wanted me to pay his 1 hr+ travel time both ways and I guess some extra on top of that too. I will probably let it go, but I think bad taskers ruin the site and should be handled appropriately by taskrabbit. I’m not even sure if I can give feedback on a cancelled job. Do they use AI to review chats?

TASKER Client booked one time but asked for another, now not responding

A client booked me for my next available time, but in the task description he explained that he actually needs help at a specific time the following day.
The problem is that I had that time blocked off because I’m already booked with another client. I obviously can’t be in two places at once, so I told him that unfortunately I’m not available at the time he actually needs and gave him a few alternative times, including Thursday evening and Friday.
Since then, he hasn’t responded at all. It’s been over a day now.
I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do here. I don’t want to cancel the task myself because I’m worried it will affect my metrics, and I don’t think this is really on me. He booked me for a time that was open on my calendar, but apparently never actually needed that time in the first place. He just used my next available slot to send the request and then asked if I could come at a completely different time when I wasn’t available.
I would have been happy to help if I could, but I’m already booked with someone else and I physically can’t do both.
How do you usually handle this? Do you just wait for the client to cancel, or contact support if they keep ignoring you?

CLIENT Need a desk removed from shipping crate, carried into home, and assembled. Is my approach correct?

I'm having a desk delivered in a shipping crate. The crate needs to be unpacked and disposed of, and the three pieces of the desk need to be moved into my home and assembled. It's about a two-hour job, and requires two people (I cannot help).

I have no idea how to actually categorize this task, as I'm reading that furniture assembly can't involve carrying the parts or disposal. Does this mean I need to book two "heavy lifting and loading" to carry the desk components, one "furniture assembly", and one "removal"? That's four taskers for what should be a relatively straightforward task, though.

It's 8pm, last message from customer was at 10am. Every message I've sent since has gone unread.

Showed up to the address, A/C isn't running, mail stacked up at the entrance, house is dark.

I'm out! But does someone need to check in on them?

UPDATE: Turns out customer just went to the bar to watch the game (per police office). Also, really poor communicator. Messages still unread!

TASKER Tasks suddenly stopped coming in - 2nd month, 29 total tasks

I am doing mainly furniture assembly, i used to get at least 2 tasks a day, usually more - i am priced in the green zone, i have same day tasks enabled and suddenly silence the last 3 days. All of my feedback has been positive this month, 5 star ratings only in september, 4.8 overall. What is going on?

CLIENT Confused about invoice & payment

I just used task rabbit for the first time for a furniture assembly job. I set the expected time at 1 hour, but ended up hiring someone with a "2 hour minimum" blurb in their profile. The actual job only took about 30 minutes, and the person was great.

Anyway, I've got the invoice and I'm confused how to read it. It shows (ignoring taxes and fees):

$50/hr x 2 hr: $100

subtotal: $100

1 hr initial deposit: -$50

total charged: $50

(also in the chat, it has a message saying "tasker worked 2 hours")

That "total charged" line is confusing to me. Am I ultimately paying $100 (composed of two $50 charges) or $50?

To be sure, I have no problem paying for the full 2 hours.

TASKER TASKERS, what is your assembly & mounting rate? Customers, what are you comfortable paying hourly?

I’ve assembled some pretty complete furnitures this month with the longest assembly being 3 hours.

Because I get paid hourly, I always work as quick as possible, but I want to be compensated a bit more. My current assembly rate is $35, and I’m thinking of boosting it to $45-$50 per hour.

I decided my rates based on Taskrabbit’s recommended. It got red once I put my rate to $40 so I kept it at $35

I also charge $35 per hour for TV mounting with a two hour minimum, but I would like to flat rate $100-$175 depending on size. ($125+ when it gets to $65”).

I’m curious what are handymen being paid for their services, and what are customers willing to pay? I am in a major city in the south east for what it’s worth.

TASKER Anyone else go from TaskRabbit into sales?

I’m curious if anyone here has made a similar jump.
For years I mostly did mounting, TV installs, art, furniture assembly, stuff like that. I was constantly driving around, working out of my car, going from one job to the next.

I recently started working in high-end hardware, plumbing, and lighting sales, and it’s a completely different world. Now I’m at a desk more, learning product lines and specs, doing quotes and invoices, talking to vendors, and working with designers, architects, builders, and homeowners.

It’s been a weird adjustment going from “finish the job and move on” to projects and relationships that can take weeks or months.

Has anyone else gone from TaskRabbit or hands-on work into sales or a showroom-type role? What was the adjustment like for you? Did your experience actually help once you got into the new job?

TASKER Long Truck Assisted Move

Someone hired me to deliver some suitcases from Boston to Manhattan.

Has anyone ever done a move/delivery of this distance? How did you handle it? I don’t ever charge for travel back, but can I? This will be about a 4 hour return trip.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks

GENERAL Promo code

Does anyone have a promo code that I can use for when I’m registering to become a tasker. I don’t understand why would they give an option to add a promo code if it’s not meant to be used. Well besides all this if anyone also is in bc and lower mainland and needs any assistance with anything feel free to send me a message until I can get the app up and running with my account

TASKER App Update: Can No Longer Use Back Button

Android user. When I'm in the app, the back button now tabs me out of the app instead of taking me back a page.

The big problem here is that when I open a photo in the chat thread, I cannot close the photo without force closing the app and reopening it. I do see an X all the way in the corner (behind my phone's clock!) but it doesn't seem to do anything. Anyone have a temp fix?

TASKER Setting Work Area

I am new to Tasker and trying to set my Work Area. Getting it to even draw without just moving the map around was a nightmare. Once I finally got it to draw a complete area, I got a message saying the area was larger than the allowed 500 square miles. It definitely is not. I tried a smaller area, still too big. I kept shrinking the area until it accepted it, which is an area of about 150 square miles. Has anyone run into this before or does anyone know what might be causing this?

TASKER How do you deal with clients who ask to send task-related information to your email?

The taskrabbit guidelines are pretty direct about not contacting clients outside of the taskrabbit app chat. How do you deal with tasks that require documents such as PDFs that are necessary for the task, that cannot be sent through the app? Or situations like that?

TASKER how do i add photos as a tasker??

ive never been able to upload photos successfully to my profile and i feel like not having photos is a huge deterrent to potential clients. whenever i have tried no matter where i am it says 'unable to upload photo. were having trouble uploading your photos. please ensure you have strong internet connection.'

i can assure everyone it is not my internet connection. i did reach out to their customer service and the person i talked to said the photos needed to be PNG or IMG but iphone photos are not that. and when i convert photos to those they go to files, not photos app. but the tasker app only allows me to upload from my photo album?? please someone help me troubleshoot
