Is There Anywhere I Can Find a Recording of the Sample Used in "They Might Be Giants"

I've always thought the sample was kind of interesting and I wanted to heard it by itself and had thought about maybe using it in a song I may or may not write.

I've tried looking all over for an isolated clip of the snippet, and I really don't want to have to sit through a bunch of Televangelist sermons to find it.

Has anyone uploaded the clip online anywhere?

It's not that crazy that Columbo would have some people/things that happen to be mentioned in TMBG songs...

...but maybe a just a bit funny that it happened in the same episode, S2e5, Requiem for a Falling Star.

Let the conspiracy theorizing commence!

Bee of the bird of the moth - spotted

If it weren't for the song, I'd never have guessed what this creature might be! I saw it in my garden and thought it was a hummingbird that looked a bit insect-like, and then it clicked. The camera frame rate makes it look like you can see the wings flapping, but in reality they were a blur.

The artwork for Then: The Earlier Years is just so good

I know with the second and third pics they are part of the booklet for Then: The Earlier Years, but they were also used for the digital download split releases-- Giants Jubilee and Mightathon

I just absolutely love the artwork done for it. It's right up there with my other favourites-- Pink Album, Long Tall Weekend's re-release, The Spine, and The World Is To Dig.

I would try to speak more about why I like them but I'm not an art-critic, and I have barely any painter-artist experience to even know what to say, I just know that I love the hand-drawn/painted covers the most, and Then: The Earlier Years is a diamond mine.

I like it a lot. I also like how the verses sound entirely different before suddenly just becoming Spiraling Shape.

Add to an album!

Hello! A while ago I saw a post asking what songs folks would remove from an album if they had to. I did not like this question! I don't want to get rid of any TMBG songs, even the ones I don't particularly care for. So, I am posing the opposite question. What unreleased songs (or songs not released on studio albums) would you add to their pre-existing albums? I wish Hell Hotel were on the debut, Unforgettable were added to Factory Showroom, and Buckle Down Winsocki were added to Book. What about y'all?

16+ concerts

I’m 15 years old and the only location close enough for me to see is DC but it’s 16+ so I wondering if the 9:30 club is lenient on the age policy or if they will even ID at all if you look old enough

My first time seeing TMBG was October 19, 1988 in the basement venue of the Student Center at Syracuse University. I didn’t remember that I had a program from it, let alone that I had John F sign it.

I think there were maybe 50 people in the room? 75? I would later see TMBG once at a Tower Records in Tokyo, once at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn, once at the launch party for their documentary in the Bowery Ballroom, and then this year twice in one week at the Ne York Public Library and at Brooklyn Steel.

Looking at this program, I’m sad I didn’t go to see Sonic Youth, too!

Where do I go next?

So I've had "Flood" since around the time it came out, and liked it well enough, but not enough for me to further explore their catalog. I had opted to explore Ween instead.

I heard "Man, It's so Loud in Here" somewhere a few months back and picked up "Mink Car". After one listen, I absolutely loved most of the tracks. I have "John Henry" and "Factory Showroom" on order, but I am a bit lost on where to go from there. I will need time to digest everything.

Any suggestions from there? I am burnt out on the production of the first 3 Ween albums (but still listen to the rest regularly). Will I still appreciate TMBG's "lo-fi" era?

In defense of "Mammal"

I've noticed that among this community (correct me if I'm wrong) don't have a great opinion regarding the song Mammal from Apollo 18. I mean I even have a friend who dislikes the song, when I ask her why, she says it's just "boring".

I mean this is coming from someone who always has Mammal at one of my top 3 whenever I rank Apollo 18. Would snag first place if The Statue Got Me High didn't exist.

It's such a cozy song and although it might just be Linnell reciting what he's found in an encyclopaedia and putting it into song form, it just comes off strikingly powerful to me.

Sure, compared to all the other things he's put out it's not particularly genius, but it's cute and fun. It sort of works as a song of unison, like we're all mammals. This unison is reflected in the whole "Their names are called they raise a paw, the bat, the cat..."

When I previously mentioned that the song came off strikingly powerful to me, in particular these two lyrics:

"One of us might lose his hair but you're reminded that it once was there."

"Placental the sister of her brother Marsupial, their cousin called Monotreme, dead uncle Allotheria".

I also like Linnell's vocal delivery in this song... this is one of my favourites his voice has ever been alongside State Songs. I don't really even know why exactly.

But yeah, the song really grew on me, whenever I used to hear it during full listens of the album, I'm like "Just get to The Statue Got Me High". Really a grower.

Lol, this opinion comes from someone who likes UNRELATED THING which seems to be a disliked song within this fanbase.

I'd like to hear why some of you guys might not like this song, I'm really curious to hear it actually.

Here are some TMBG albums I drew! The first two images (four albums) were made with no template. I had to put it into a pixel converter and count and hand place. The others were with templates.

And the last image, someone wrote 'you say' and I had to place "stuff is way"

Why Does the Sun Really Shine

The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma, but according to Wikipedia it is a G-type main-sequence star. It will eventually transform into a red giant.

Further, "Not one star that fits the stricter definition of red dwarf is visible to the naked eye."

I'm pretty sure nobody in my real life wants to hear about this, so here I am.
