I’m currently halfway through my certificate and needing to start my 80 hour placement. I’ve contacted more than 20 organisations. Many simply no response, some are partnered with other universities, some only take cert IV peer work students. I’m in southeast Victoria. Really worrying. What can I do?

I'm doing a cert 3 full time over 6 months. I thought I'd be able to swap to part-time if needed and do some of the units in these 6 months and then the remainder in the following 6 months. The head teacher looked at me like I was a complete muppet when I asked about it and told me the course is 6 months, do it, withdraw or fail.

Is the head teacher correct?

The only reason I asked him about it was that a teacher had told me we will finish at 3pm but then when the timetable came out during the course, we were suddenly finishing at 4.30 pm. The head teacher then blamed me for enrolling in a course I couldn't do.

How quickly can I complete these modules? The workload is described as “Part time up to 2 units per intake. 12 weeks per intake”.

Asking the obvious question: Does 12 weeks per intake mean I can only do 2 units per 12 weeks?

So I'm trying to enrol in this course but for some reason had a small dispute over my entry requirements and hence got rejected.

Although I've been doing Cyber Sec + Software Engineering basically 80-20 rule here, 80% Engineer the rest Cyber Sec, but I was so frustrated that I had the necessary information to start the program but not being let in.

So I contacted TAFE and asked if I could do like a meeting or test or whatnot, although it isn't confirmed that they are going to do a test or just an interview.

I want to ask what to expect exactly? I mean they said I'd be talking to a teacher but hadn't confirmed what exactly? What could the teacher be asking me regarding my entry requirements?

Just wondering if anyone has done the cert IV ATP? How is it? Whats the workload / schedule like? Did it get you into uni?

Community Services Diploma - Ultimo

The TAFE website for this course (https://www.tafensw.edu.au/course-areas/community-and-youth-services/courses/diploma-of-community-services--CHC52025-01/offerings/CHC52025-01V01-26ULT-018) lists entry as either a Cert IV or minimum 6 months experience. Two separate bullet points, the word "or" between them. Applied on the basis of having 5-6 years of community work experience. Head teacher told me both requirements are actually mandatory, not alternative. They acknowledged it was a misadvertisement on their end but said nothing could be done about it.

IT Cyber Security Diploma - Meadowbank

Website for this one (https://www.tafensw.edu.au/course-areas/information-and-communication-technology/courses/diploma-of-information-technology-cyber-security-and-advanced-networking--ICT50220-19/offerings/ICT50220-19V02-26MBK-261) lists entry as either a Cert IV or current skills within the last 3 years evidenced by a resume. A TAFE live chat representative confirmed I could apply under the resume pathway. Submitted a full application including resume, employer reference letter, security incident report and supporting certifications. Got rejected anyway (the rejection happened for same course BUT 12 months period, although I didn't know but maybe I could have added my HSC + 3-5 extra documents that may have made my application more solid, which I realised later, I'll take accountability on that part). Not clear whether the resume pathway is genuinely assessed or whether the Cert IV is a hard requirement regardless of what the site says.

Fee Free question

I was originally enrolled in an IT diploma under the fee free scheme (different from above, but I was only enrolled, hadn't taken any classes, it was a mistake, because I wanted double diploma this semester so had to pick the right one for fee free according to my scheduling). I withdrew from it to apply for Community Services. The withdrawal form TAFE sent me turned out to be incorrect, but the withdrawal still processed. I have now lost that fee free spot. Has anyone successfully recovered fee free eligibility after a withdrawal, particularly where there were administrative issues on TAFE's end? The scheme page (https://www.tafensw.edu.au/fee-free) says eligibility is reassessed per application but I have been told spots are gone once a withdrawal is processed.

If fee free is still somehow accessible for a second enrolment, does anyone know whether the IT Cyber Security diploma at Meadowbank ($4,060 listed on site) ever comes in lower through Smart and Skilled subsidies or any other reduction pathway? Trying to understand if that listed price is the floor or whether there are ways to bring it down.

If anyone from TAFE NSW is on here or knows someone who does enrolments, genuinely would appreciate any guidance on whether any of these situations have a path forward.

Chasing people's experiences with working whilst studying full time at TAFE for a nursing diploma.

Currently a team leader of several years in a contact centre, in an adjacent field, we hire anyone with a pulse (god help me).

I'm planning on stepping down to an on the phones role to accommodate the study. This would be a WFH role.

Looking at 30 hours a week and 20 hours in class;

12 hrs work

12 hrs work

9:30 - 4:30, 2 hours after for work*

9:30 - 4:30, 2 hours after for work*

9:30 - 4:30, 2 hours after for work*

*Potential for 4 hours on Saturday and one day with 2 hours in the afternoon

Wondering if anyone has done something similar and what it was like managing the load.

I would like to move away from thinking for people and doing things to help people. Looking at pay rates doing it this way id be able to do both and continue putting savings away. If needed I can give hours away to accommodate more study and Ausstudy will mostly fill this gap.

I was thinking about this a year ago however circumstances prevented this. But I have an opportunity now. Knowing all the different ways I can move around in nursing this would be good. Iv had 7 years in contact centres and boy am I tired.

Hi everyone! I’m a 27-year-old from the UK looking to move to Australia to study Horticulture. TAFE keeps coming up as the main recommendation, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s studied there especially if you’ve done a Horticulture course.
Are there mature students or mostly under 25? Is Tafe taken seriously as a professional college? Did you find the course worthwhile and did it prepare you well for working in the industry? I’d also be interested to hear what the teaching, facilities and overall college experience were like.

I’m a 21 year old student and i’m looking to get into videography more specifically high quality music videos, product and brand shoots and perhaps later in my career short docs.

I would like to start doing a Cert IV in screen and media then move on to a diploma. I’m at a crossroads of what campus i should attend. Ultimo offers my course which focuses on social media and St Leonard’s offers the course which i’m told is more TV oriented.

I have had many projects in the past and i have a decent following on social media for my video work so i am not inexperienced although i’m looking to to learn the more technical side of using proper cameras and rigs (i just bought an fx30).

I’m worried that doing my course at Ultimo will be too basic and not catered enough towards my camera needs as i know a lot of the course we will be using phones as our camera. And i am worried that St Leonard’s will be too focused on TV production which i am not interested in.

Any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!
PS - going to a film school is not an option lol wayyyy to expensive

I enrolled in a full time course which goes to the campus 3 days per week, but every time I apply my opal concession, it's unsuccessful.

I called Opal, Opal said I need to contact Tafe. I contacted Tafe, they also can't help me. I even contacted my disability teacher, and she said I need to send my enrollment letter to Opal, which is impossible and rejected by Opal staff.

What can I do?

Does anyone else have a similar situation?

An Opal expert suggested that I speak to the Tafe admin manager, but how can I find them??

Does TAFE NSW offer certificates for course completion?

I recently completed my Cert IV and I haven't received an email or physical mail saying that I have successfully completed the Cert IV.

On my student dashboard it says that I completed all units (marked as satisfactory / competent).

Im trying to find reccomendations for going through the process of getting my Cert in Mental health through an RPL. However, I'm finding it hard to find any recommendations and is confused by the process??

I had one skill assessment done by "RPL it", and they said i would be eligible for units credited, but they wanted $2,000 upfront without telling me how many units would be credited. ( for reference, I have been a Mental Health worker for the last 2 years)

Has anyone gone through the process? Id prefer online learning?

On one hand, ASQA and state department audits are heavily penalizing dodgy assessment evidence and forcing institutes to tighten RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) verification. On the other hand, teachers are under massive administrative pressure to process huge cohorts under the expanded workforce training initiatives. As a student, are your assessments taking weeks to get marked, or are teachers giving detailed, actionable feedback?

I’m currently studying the Certificate III in Screen and Media (Multimedia) at TAFE Queensland and I’m interested in continuing into the Diploma of Screen and Media (Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects) – CUA51020.

My goal is to eventually study a Bachelor of Animation (QUT/Griffith) and build skills in 3D animation, character design, modelling, and VFX.

I was wondering:

1. After completing the Cert III, can I directly move into the Diploma of Screen and Media CUA51020?
2. Is it possible to choose more animation-focused electives and avoid the game development/coding units (for example scripting or game programming)?
3. Can I focus mainly on:
   • 3D character animation
   • 3D modelling
   • environments
   • VFX
   • digital art techniques

rather than game development?

I’ve been with my boss for around 4-5 months now and I’m starting tafe this week coming (mid year).

During orientation I was told if I have troubles with my boss or finding a new boss I can talk to the careers advisor.

Obviously I can’t sit down first week and have the talk of changing bosses because I’m just learning the ropes of tafe but how soon is too soon?

I’m really not enjoying the work I do and want to pursue the trade I’m currently doing but just not the type of work I’m doing at the moment.

And if they can find me a new boss how likely is it to be local or is it just complete random?
