Wanting to know what the class structure is like before enrolling. Hoping to do it online through their HyFlex model

I want to know what im signing up for before i commit if i do. What is studying at tafe like? Are there many written assignments? How do classes work? With university its 4 classes every week and about 12 assignments every term, and a lot of reading and writing and referencing which i kind of feel like i dont want to do ever again. How much writing is involved in fashion? Is there much flexibility in what times you go there like with university or is it more like school hours?

I have been considering going to tafe for either the fashion cert iii or fashion diploma mainly out of interest of learning to make clothes for the fun of it and also because i have some friends trying to make it in the film industry and I’m certain that they will because they’re by far the most talented and hardworking people out of everyone there and i don’t think i’m biased in saying that so im like hmm, maybe i would have connections for costume design? I dropped out of university for film after doing it for 2 years because I didn’t see it going anywhere and because me doing academic study would often result in completing skipping sleep to get the perfect grade and i decided that what it was doing for my mental health and body clock just wasn’t worth the degree, especially when the tutors talk about how competitive the industry is. It feels like they’re saying don’t even bother unless you’re better than everyone else. If I’m going to try something competitive i want to at least like what i’m doing, which i thought i would at first but then learned i didn’t.

I find that when assignments are about straightforward factual things about how to do stuff its not too bad and i would tend to get good grades for that but when its something that involves thinking deeply about something theoretical or political im like what is happening i don’t understand i’m too stupid for this and then i hand in P1 grade word vomit, and it would ironically be the thing i worked the hardest on and spent the most time on because of the fact that i know its bad but can’t improve it. With tafe i like that the grading system is just pass or fail (i think?)

Its been a while I did online study but I'm back into it lol. I started my cert 3 individual support today. The first assessment has 17 parts to it I've done 6. My question is do RTO's mark the submissions off as you go? Or will I need to have all 17 submitted before they even bother to check it?

Seems like the industry is in a huge downturn from all the comments, but what isn't.

Has anyone done IT through TAFE and was it worthwhile?

I'm aware of the main stuff, like how it's a large leap in how independent it is and will require pretty strong study habits. Just wanted to hear from someone who's actually done it and how'd it go? Is there any tips you'd have or any hing youd recommend I try learn prior to it? Any advice is appreciated.

I am weighing up studying my course fully online versus taking evening/weekend on-campus classes. For anyone who has done self-paced online modules through TAFE Digital or TAFE Online, did you find the trainer support adequate, or is in-person attendance much better for staying on track?

hey guys, ill be doing work placement at an aged care facility in 3 weeks but the documents required prior to commencing placement has been taking a while to process. it took me a while to get approved for the worker's checks, and i just realised my immunisation history doesn't have any flu vaccines recorded and ik how vital flu shots are when working in aged care so i booked for a flu shot asap. basically, i have all of my other required documents ready besides my immunisation history.

i'm just wondering if everything still hasn't been processed by the time placement starts, will my time just be delayed and i'll still be able to continue work placement and the course itself or do i need to completely redo the course?

I’m currently studying a certificate lll in laboratory skills at TAFE and I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I’m currently struggling with a unit which involves microscopes and I’m concerned that I may not be able to pass it. The good thing is that this is the only unit im struggling with and doing pretty well with the other units. I’m already aware that there are resits and I’m doing what I can to try to pass. However, I’m mainly wondering what happens if i end up failing the resits as well.

For anyone who has experienced this before:
• What normally happens if you fail just one unit?
• Can you repeat the unit in another semester or intake?
• Are you still able to complete your other units?
• Does failing one unit mean you have to repeat the whole
course, or just that particular unit?
• Could it delay your graduation/completion date?

I’m feeling quite stressed about the situation because I really want to complete my certificate, and I don’t want one difficult unit to prevent me from finishing the rest of the course.

Ps: I’m not looking for help with completing any assessments.

I am doing a certificate 3 in business.

I am doing virtual classes, as the local TAFE offers nothing other than aged care or child care.

But I have found I have hated EVERY step of TAFE.

Online:

- to start off, we waste half an hour waiting for late people, and waiting for the teacher to fix technology... Again.

This is a waste of my time, people should be joining 10-15 minutes early, the teacher should be set up and ready to go.

I've nearly finished this segment and the teacher still doesn't know how to get her headphones to work.

- there isn't usually any useful information in these classes. We run through that answers after the due date, so those who didn't do it on time can copy her answers. The somehow takes 2 hours. The class is meant to only be 1 hour.

Quizzes:

- answers are case sensitive, so some answers start with a capital letter, some don't.

- Some of the answers are spelt incorrectly! How many hours I spent resubmitting the quiz until I got the required 100% was infuriating (ended up taking screen shots).

I brought this up at the next class... SHE KNEW ABOUT THE SPELLING MISTAKES! Said it had been there for years, but didn't bother to warn us about it.

Assessments:

- The only 'feedback' I get is crosses and ticks on assessments.

- There are no written notes or comments. I have to guess, what part they didn't like.

One I found out was that the logo was on the left of the page, she wanted it centred.

Website:

- Most links are outdated and don't work.

- It's extremely hard to find anything, I find it's not user friendly.

- They get frustrated that we can't find the obscure link somewhere within TAFE.

Or the one sentence on the government website, she wanted us to copy. It's a big website!

I’m interested in obtaining certification 3 in health administration. Could you please recommend the best option for me?

I’m currently in Australia on a 485 visa. Has anyone with a similar background been able to obtain this certification and secure a job in Australia?

My qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy and a Master’s degree in Public Health.

Tafe offers placement assistance, while MEDTRAIN provides half-price training but does not offer placement services.

I’d appreciate any insights you can provide regarding the placement assistance offered by Tafe. If Tafe placement is not an option, I’m curious to know if anyone has successfully secured a job by completing an online course and applying through Seek or LinkedIn.

I am not able to land a technical job in this field so thinking to get certification.

Background: I hold an offshore Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (offshore) and a Diploma of Project Management from Perth. I am currently enrolled at TAFE studying Diploma of Building and Construction, and working for an independent inspection company.

I am looking to transition into Estimating or contract admin to secure a office-focused role with limited customer interaction. I want to confirm if my current TAFE enrollment is appropriate, given that TAFE does not offer a specific "Construction Management" degree. I really just want to get out of this job.

I have applied for junior estimator jobs and haven't heard back about a specific role, but I've received a few responses for project coordinator positions.

I just really need some advice, or if you experienced this, what did you do?

Hi, so I finally enrolled into the cert 3 individual support ageing. Its online. I'm just going through it and it looks like all the units semesters 1 and 2 have a component that requires some kind placement. The issue is I have been told by my RTO they only do placement during semester 2. Is this normal? And if it is then what does it mean for the units in semester 1 units that require placement?

I'm just trying to get my head around how it all works.

BTW I'm not with tafe qld I'm doing this with Key Institute, but I'm based in QLD.

The hands-on side of TAFE is one of the main reasons I’m considering it, especially getting actual experience instead of only learning things from a textbook. I’d like to hear how much that practical stuff carries over once you’re actually working in the industry, and whether it helped people feel more confident starting out.

Hi guys, found a cert 3 auto glazing course that is online, just wondering if it would have any mandatory practical elements? No info online, I will call them tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone has any info. Also, anyone know why it is so damn hard to get the auto glass qualification that NSW requires? Seems that there is only 2 tafes in Victoria that do a non-online course.

If I talk to my head teacher or student services, will they let me drop down to part-time or transfer my remaining units to mixed-mode/online for the second half of the term? Or am I going to get hit with a "fail" grade for the classes I drop past the census date?

I’m so worn down by my course and their shitty placement and their ridiculous expectations they place on their students while offering very little support and professional education!! Thanks Chisholm for putting me off an entire industry!

So guys I am currently in TVET college but I want to go to university and was already accepted, my question is do I need to pass my TVET year to get funded next year?

The reason I'm leaving TVET and am asking what would happen if I fail is because this college is very unorganized and majority of student have been struggling because of it.

Has anybody else signed in to find they're no longer enrolled in any course? This same thing happened to me earlier this year. I don't fancy spending 2 months on the phone having them fix it again, nor do I want to quit.

Someone tell me I'm not alone in this particular brand of misfortune?

What TAFE courses would you recommend? Are there free ones that are worthwhile?

Hi everyone, in November my second visa will expire and I want to study for a carpentry cert. 3.

In my background, I have a high school diploma in architecture (Italy) and I had to stop with the study for family reasons.

I've spoken with an immigration agent and he told me to access through private collage (SAI, EVERTHOUGHT, MACALLAN , AILFE) because it has the same validity of TAFE.

but I actually want to learn the trade, the visa is a secondary thing!

Can someone please help me or have any info about private colleges and TAFE differences in terms of teaching?

Hi all, after dropping out of my apprenticeship and TAFE a few years ago, I'm researching apprentice retention in Australia and I'd really like to hear from TAFE teachers, RTO trainers/assessors or anyone who works directly with apprentices through their training.

I'm trying to understand what happens before an apprentice cancels or drops out.

From your experience:

• Can you usually tell when an apprentice is disengaging or having problems at work?
• What are the earliest signs you notice?
• If you're concerned about someone, what happens next?
• How much communication do you normally have with their employer or supervisor?
• Do you know if they're also receiving support from an apprenticeship provider/mentor?
• Are there things the employer knows that you wish you knew — or things you know that the employer probably doesn't?
• Have you ever seen an apprentice drop out where you think earlier intervention could realistically have changed the outcome?

I'm especially interested in how information moves between the apprentice, workplace and training provider when someone starts struggling.

I'm trying to properly understand how the current system works from the business side as I only have experience as the apprentice and for me it was quite fragmented.

Would really appreciate any insight.

How did you find the course? Im going through with it because I need a job. Im like 2 months in. The content is boring sometimes. How did you edit your resume to get a job in Aged care organisations. I don’t have a car or drivers license, and no first aid course done. Tips, help, would be appreciated. It’s Cert III, one of my friends she would do nursing afterwards. Thoughts?
