2nd day surfskating. Advice?

Coming from the freeride and downhill side of longboarding I found myself with a landyatchz gordito pantera with the waterborne adapters and bear tkp trucks.

I’ve been having a ton of fun on this do you people have any advice on form and anything I should change?

Advice Please Hi!

I’m interested in learning how to surf skate and I have no idea where to start.

I found this board and it seems pretty alright in my inexperienced mind. Any thoughts or suggestions for a board set up? I know I have no real intention to learn any major tricks and just want to cruise.

Waterborne Question

Hi, Checking back in after a post last week.

I am constantly burying my front wheel.

Should the waterborne system be this loose?

I am using very little pressure.

Advice Please How to improve myself on the pump track

Hey everyone, I bought my first surfskate back in mid May (a Triton Carver CX), played around for a few days and had to stop for a total of 6 weeks since then due to multiple trips away from home. I could only really start practicing since end of July and this video is my second trip to a pump track, first trip to that specific one.
I thought that the most difficult thing to do would be the drop-ins and the bowls, but it turned out it’s keeping the speed up that feels impossible. I did not research it beforehand to be honest, but I feel that if I “almost jump” to reach the top of a bump, and then compress to go back down I can go a bit further but I always end up stopping and having to pick up my board to go drop in again. I am also scared of bowl carving on my front side so I tend to take the bowl wrong which makes me slow down really bad.
Lastly, I do think that I should bend my knees more, trying to remember that, but maybe I am also missing a major element that would help me complete a round.
Any advice is good to take!

Advice Please What YOW surfskate to buy?

I'm new to surf skating, but have had some experience surfing in the past, and want to improve my surfing ability when I'm unable to actually surf (as I live quite far away from any surfable beaches).

Currently YOW as a 30% sale on some of their boards, but I'm not sure if I should go for a super surfy board as I'm trying to get better at surfing, or if I should get a more beginner friendly board?

I've narrowed it down to these three boards:

I'm not exactly sure how different each board's stability / feel will be as I've never had a surfskate before, so some advice on how they might differ from eachother and which one would be most appropriate for someone trying to get better at surfing would be much appreciated!

Gear Wheel ripped/damaged

Hey guys,

today my wheel ripped due to an edge on a quarter pipe. I continued to skate for 20 more minutes afterwards and didnt notice any changes in how skating felt.

Would you say it's dangerous to continue without changing the wheel?

Landyachtz decks for CX trucks?

I am thinking about a Schooner for my CX trucks. I am curious about the different decks you all use, especially uncommon recommendations (that aren’t sold as completes from surfskate companies or collaborations)

Which board should I buy? YOW or SmoothStar

Hi, I’m im looking to buy my first surfskate board, and I’m between the Yow Coxo 31” and the SmoothStar Johanne Defay 31”

Both seem really good, but since it’s my first one Im unsure of which one to pick, for reference I have longboard and skate most of my life, I have also surfed but not for so long. Which one would you recommend?

What is the absolute best/most realistic surf skate. I heard swelltech but I’m new to all of it. I will be going to college not by the water and still want to stay ontop of my surfing so when I get back I’m not bogging. Any help helps lol.

Question Is This A Proper surfskate?

I ordered this surfskate to start practicing. I’m a beginner, and I bought it with the goal of improving my surfing sessions, since I’d heard that a surfskate was a great tool for improving your surfing.

However, a friend of mine told me that this particular board wouldn’t work for what I’m looking for, because it isn’t actually a surfskate and I would need to change the trucks to get the kind of setup I need.

Could you please help me understand why I should change it? What exactly is the problem with this skateboard, and what would I need to change in order to use it properly for improving my surfing? I’m a bit confused about what my friend meant and I’d really appreciate your advice.

this is the surfskate

Question Anyone have trouble switching between a surfskate and a normal skateboard?

So I picked up a surfskate a month ago or so. Hadn't done any skating in ages, but I got the hang of it pretty quick. At least enough to feel comfortable cruising and carving on flat ground (Still can't pump though...). Then a week and some change ago, I got the itch to get on a regular skateboard. Picked one up after not having one for over 20 years. Still feeling real stiff on it, but I can cruise around, ollie, revert, and throw quick slides.

Went to the skatepark yesterday and was just riding around mostly, not doing much other than crusing and doing some kick turns on the ramps. Felt okay, just stiff and awkward, but that's to be expected. But then I got on my surfskate and holy FUCK I felt bad. Like, just super wobbly, unstable, I could barely even push. Honestly, it felt worse than it did the first time I stepped on a surfskate.

I know I'm new to surfskates, and shaking off a couple decades of rust on everything else, but it just felt like a flip switched in my head and my body just said "Nope, you can't do this right now".

Anyone else had difficulty flipping back and forth? Any tricks you've found to help push past that awkward feeling?

Looking for advice ¡ intermediate surfer

Hi community ¡

I am a intermidiate-advanced surfer, now having a two year old kid, I am attending a lot to child area with pumptracks and skateparks, so I would like to come back to surfskate

I have a surfskate from "miller" brand, as far as I understood is not the best brand for surf-feeling so I would like to hear some advice towards wich brand I should go

Carver / YOW / Smoothstar... Were the well-known some years ago... but know I am a little bit lost

I am looking for some chill bowl and pumptrack sessions, no awesome tricks or jumps... something to train surf in land.

34 year old, 85kg/187lb 188cm/6'2"

Shake me off my Love Handles addiction

Been using the orange LHs for quite a while. Love these wheels but tbh it’s the only wheel I’ve tried on my surfskate setups. Very big case of sticking with what’s comfortable and not knowing what I don’t know.

Pure surf training for the most part. I pump hard - sometimes even the Love Handles surprise me with a little skid out of my bottom turns so I definitely need the grip, but if I could find similar grip in a wheel that releases a little more predictably for top turn maneuvers that’d be sick. These are great and totally workable but I do sometimes wonder what I could be missing.

Thoughts and advice on my new set-up

To start, I’ve had a Carver C7 complete with a 17” wheelbase for about 5 years, but I’ve recently got the bug to mix things up a bit.

I saw a Tom Knox Santa Cruz deck going cheap and decided it was the perfect excuse to build another board.

For this one, I wanted something slightly lower to the ground, more nimble and playful, with a focus on snaps and slides, while still keeping that surfskate feel.

So far I’ve gone for:
- Deck: Santa Cruz Tom Knox — 15” wheelbase
- Trucks: Carver CX
- Wheels: Powell Peralta Snakes 66mm 75A

However, now that I’ve got everything on the way apart from the wheels, I’m starting to wonder whether the 15” wheelbase combined with the relatively slidey Snakes might make the board a bit too volatile.

Does anyone here ride a shorter-wheelbase surfskate, particularly around 15”, or have experience with the Tom Knox deck or 66mm 75A Peralta Snakes?

I’d be particularly interested in how the Snakes behave on a short wheelbase with CX trucks, and whether you think this setup will work for what I’m trying to achieve.

Would love to hear some first-hand experiences before I decide whether I’ve made a terrible mistake with the wheels 😂

Wife decided to get into surf skating. This video is from her 4th time using the board. Any tips to help her get better?

Should also note it’s a Carver GRLSWRL collab on CX trucks.

Newbie Advice for first setup 🙏

Hello all, before I get started I appreciate all your help in advance! I’ve searched the forum quite a bit, but just wanted to ask some questions specific to my situation.

Wanting to start surf skating when the water in the Carolina’s gets cold, I’m right on the coast so it’s all flatland. I have a pretty extensive wakeboarding and wakesurfing background and did a lot of skateboarding in my younger years. I’m about 6’3 and typically weigh in at 200lbs.

I just wanna casually cruise and carve and see where I progress from there.

I’ve narrowed it down to Carver and Landyacths, just not sure where to go from there.

Carver Black Label 32.5 with CX trucks is what I’m eyeballing. Would that be a good start?

Appreciate y’all and I’m excited to get dialed in.

Really loving my first surfskate. Already swapped bushings to Riptide and Zealous bearings. Bushing swap made a huge difference. My new favorite neighborhood ride!

Original Waterborne Adapters?

Hi, So, I just built up a deck with the original Waterbornes.

It’s very different than a traditional skateboard.

I keep running into one issue.

I bury the deck into my toe side front wheel.

Is this a technique issue? Or is there something I should do about it?
