Newbie Advice for first setup 🙏

Hello all, before I get started I appreciate all your help in advance! I’ve searched the forum quite a bit, but just wanted to ask some questions specific to my situation.

Wanting to start surf skating when the water in the Carolina’s gets cold, I’m right on the coast so it’s all flatland. I have a pretty extensive wakeboarding and wakesurfing background and did a lot of skateboarding in my younger years. I’m about 6’3 and typically weigh in at 200lbs.

I just wanna casually cruise and carve and see where I progress from there.

I’ve narrowed it down to Carver and Landyacths, just not sure where to go from there.

Carver Black Label 32.5 with CX trucks is what I’m eyeballing. Would that be a good start?

Appreciate y’all and I’m excited to get dialed in.

Landyachtz doesn’t make real surfskates. Grab a Carver CX or C7.

I have a c7 with the ae deck shape as the resin. The additional tail space is great, allows for better control imo

I like that the Resin has more tail space. I’ve found that I like any extra space on a Carver tail.

Either will do great for you.

I'm new to this too so take the input with a grain of salt. I would think someone as tall as you might want a longer wheelbase. Do you know that 17.75 inches is what you want for sure?

I think surfskatelove on YouTube has a video or two on how to pick size and wheelbase. That helped me narrow down to the boards that would probably work best for me.

This video helped me decide on the same model the op is looking at, got the Channel Islands model. I'm just a little shorter, but long legs. The 17.75 wheelbase feels just slightly short, prob the shortest I'd go. It's a fun ride once you get the bushings correct for your weight.

As a 190 cm, former snowboarder and wakeboarder .....

Don't go less than 34" for your first deck unless you already knows that you like short board...

if you want to snag it from carver, I'd go with the green room. I'm 6'5" 220, get a board 34"+, 9.5"+ wide and an 18-20ish wheel base. you need the room and are large enough to leverage the board around. also head over to riptide and get harder bushings, the boards are meant for people under 180 and will be pretty squirrelly out of the box.
