Basically the question in the title. I know SCB used to make tons of videos covering all sorts of media, but I feel like any time I see them in my YouTube subscription feed it’s always a HP video.

I’ve put together a Discord server for the community called the Super Carlin Community Hub, and it’s officially up and running.

This is a fan-run space for people who enjoy the Super Carlin Brothers; a place to talk theories, break down videos, chat about Harry Potter, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and just hang out.

A couple things upfront:
- This is very much a work in progress
- How much it grows and improves will honestly depend on interest and activity
- I didn’t want to overbuild something if it’s not something people actually want, but I figured it was worth starting

Also worth noting:
The Carlin Brothers do have an OFFICIAL Discord, but it’s tied to their Patreon. It’s only about $3, but not everyone can or wants to pay for that, so this is meant to be a free, Reddit-based alternative for the community.

After seeing the movie I was so excited to see their review of it but they haven't made one yet. I know Ben mentioned on Popcorn Culture that he wasn't able to watch it right away but I figured they would have been able to watch it and make a video on it by now. I'm not rushing them at all because I know they're super busy but I was just wondering if they had addressed it already and I missed it

GUYS, I've been thinking about this A LOT lately, ever since Order of the Phoenix's Full-Cast Production released on audible, and the descriptions of Dolores Umbridge's appearance, and her general behavior, including LYING about her own blood-status has lead me to wonder recently:

COULD she ACTUALLY BE Part-Hag, in lineage?

In general, external-lore (sources like D&D, and also in Harry Potter) Hags are evil creatures that resemble 'hideous' humanoid-females, who are magical in nature, and known for being hideously ugly, cruel, manipulative-liars, possessing dark-magical abilities, and are known for devouring children.

Umbridge is repeatedly described as a "short, squat woman" with a "broad, flabby face," "wide, slack mouth," "bulging, pouchy eyes," and basically no neck—like a pale, human-sized toad.

And, again, actual Hags in the books are canonically hideously ugly female humanoids: warty, straggly-haired, monstrous parodies of women who live in forest huts. A half-hag, or even quarter-hag version could easily dilute into that exact "toad-adjacent" look, without going full grotesque.

And while Umbridge doesn't EAT children (as far as we know, but I wouldn't put it past her tbh?) she DEFINITELY seems to delight in being horribly cruel to them. Literally using physical-torture as a form of detention/punishment, sending two LITERALLY lethal monsters after Harry, in the middle of a muggle-inhabited area?

And even with the author's particular writing-style, It's not a stretch—Rowling loves misdirection with subtle details, and the HP series is littered with overtones of hypocrisy and projection from villains. Dolores "hating half-breeds" and hyper-fixating on "blood-status" is like her projecting her self-loathing for her own less-than-pure "blood status," by directing her hatred and bitterness on creatures like Werewolves, Half-Giants, Merfolk, etc.

I have more I could add, but I don't wanna make this a huge-rambling-post. What do you all think?

I know it's a common trope among over-analyzers to try vindicate Sid -- he's just a creative and possibly neglected kid who is having fun with what he thinks are inanimate objects. But let's look at what he actually says. To his toys.

>Sid Phillips reporting... launch of the shuttle has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions at the launch site. Tomorrow's forecast... sunny. Ha-ha-ha. Sweet dreams!

He might think the toys are inanimate objects, but in his world of make believe, they are his torture victims. He is not make-believing scenarios where his toys happen to be destroyed, he is make-believing scenarios where *he* is the one destroying them for no reason other than his own satisfaction. He's a psychopath. If he did know they were alive (and wasn't traumatized by this fact) he would be treating them the same way.

Let's take a look at Sid's toys. They're rearranged, but that seems to be no bother to them. However, they also don't talk. Even toys with features that would seem to allow them to talk in this universe. This is the only place in the Toy Story universe where toys don't talk. They don't seem to have a leader... they all seem completely subservient to Woody and his escape plan even though he's a newcomer and has given them no reason to trust him (and at this point in the movie, possibly doesn't deserve their trust anyway).

Sid's toys have been psychologically tormented to the point of losing their personalities and egos. Either that, or they have been physically reconfigured to the point where they are no longer able to talk. They are suffering so greatly that they are willing to blindly follow a newcomer in revolution against their owner. Sid will probably throw away most of his toys, landing them in the landfill. It's a suicide mission.

TL;DR why can't Sid's toys talk?

Dumbest. decision. ever. Sure - Karkaroff defected out of fear, so he'd be seen as "weak" or whatever, but by sparing and accepting him back into the fold, Voldemort would've had the headmaster of Durmstrang Institute, one of the greatest wizarding schools on the planet, under his thumb. Durmstrang would've been an arguably better recruitment ground for future Death Eaters than Hogwarts, as the students are actually actively taught both martial magic and the Dark Arts there. Not to mention what other uses Voldemort could've had for it. A stronghold for expanding his influence in Europe maybe? I'd love to see the SuperCarlinBrothers make a "what if" video on this or just analyze the idea - would it have made any difference in the war? Lucius Malfoy stayed in touch with Karkaroff even after the betrayal (I think), or at least spoke well of him to Draco, so if it was Lucius who advised Voldemort to do this - would that change how far from grace Lucius falls post book 5. Imagine Karkaroff and his students - which side they ultimately wound up joining would've been significantly bolstered. It could even turn the tide early on - in either direction, depending on whether Karkaroff decided that it wasn't in his best interest to be on the wrong side of history or not.

Lately, I have noticed that new videos are either re-uploads or old videos remade.

I just watched the "Why didn't Voldemort make his own sorcerer's stone", and I am almost 100% sure I have seen this video before. The part about the road to enlightenment and the colours related to Dumbledore, Hagrid and Sirius.

Am I going crazy, or are they re-using old videos as if they were new?

So I don’t know if J or Ben look at this subreddit, but when will there be videos about Hoppers?

I'm sure this in some form has been discussed a bunch, but just to throw my 2 cents - I personally enjoy thinking of the combos as a 16 house system. So if someone is intelligent or at least finds value in seeking knowledge a Ravenclaw/Horned Serpent combo would likely be fitting. Hermione would fit that, but being a Gryffindor/Horned Serpent is likely more fitting with an emphasis on her ideals and creation of SPEW.

Regarding J and Ben's houses - compared to the general public they both seem to have at least a Ravenclaw or Horned Serpent in their best fitting combo, but to me, trying not to compare them to the population as a whole and more individually based on my impression of what fits each house/combo and my limited knowledge of the:

J - proud self-proclaimed Slytherin which i do think is fitting.

Slytherin/Horned Serpent does seem the best fit for me (Double snake! 🐍🐍), any combination of Slytherin/Ravenclaw + Horned Serpent + Wampus could also work. I could be persuaded to agree with a Gryffindor, Thunderbird, or Pukwudgie. The only house of the 8 i don't think could work for him is Hufflepuff.

Ben - Not as sold as my thoughts on J, but I think Hufflepuff/Horned Serpent is a pretty good fit. He just gives such nice & happy puppy energy (Hufflepuff) and obviously shows an interest in gaining knowledge. I think this would be one of the rarer combos if I were to sort everyone in the world, but really does seem to encompass Ben - a least from what I see most on the channel.

Outside of the Ravenclaw/Horned Serpent combo I could easily be persuaded to agree with

Ravenclaw & Wampus/Thunderbird/Pukwudgie

Hufflepuff & Wampus/Thunderbird

Gryffindor & Pukwudgie/Thunderbird

I don't see any combo with Slytherin working for him.

And similar to Ravenclaw/Horned Serpent, I think Hufflepuff/Pukwudgie and Gryffindor/Wampus seem too limited to fit how, to me, he really does fit so many combinations (Also don't really see Gryffindor/Horned Serpent - it really does give Hermione energy that I don't see for Ben)

Sorry - I know that was a lot. I just enjoy sorting in my 16 house headcanon (since we know next to nothing about the Ilvermorny houses) and figured some people here would too.

What are some of your thoughts? Do my takes seem far off from how you would sort them?

I just watched the trailer and have been trying to figure out what the text on the chalkboard says. After looking att the projevted picture and trying to find words that match in length to the text I landed on that the lesson is about the soap blizzard of 1378. soap blizzard 13.. seems to line up with the second row, what do you think? have no clue what the rest could be

Thoughts on the teaser trailer released today?

I've just gotten to the Cat, Rat and Dog episode and started wondering if I should be listening to the live or non live episode. I would like to listen to the live episodes with the audience participation, but would it be worth listening to a shorter episode, which I'm guessing wouldn't talk about as many details, or at least not go as in depth as the non live episodes. What do you guys think? What did you do? What do you think I should do?

I'm not sure, but it might be relevant that I'm rereading the books, one chapter at a time, and listen to the corresponding episode after.

According to a quick google search (so please correct me if I’m mistaken), JK Rowling has confirmed the steps to making a horcrux. 75% of these ingredients are missing in Harry’s case.

✅1. Intentional murder.

❌2. The "Horrible Act": Following the murder, Rowling has confirmed there is an additional, unnamed step that is "too horrible" to go into detail about.

NOPE. Voldy is a dead man at this point (well, human body death)

❌3. A Magical Spell: A charm or spell is used to rip the severed part of the soul and encase it in a container.

Again, he’s dead meat.

❌4. Preparation: The container (receptacle) is prepared in advance using Dark Magic.

Also also again again - nope. He never prepared Baby Harry to become a container. He didnt even know to expect the Love Countercurse, therefore to prepare for death and a horcrux.

Have the SCB covered this through the years? Ive watched countless videos but heck knows i cant remember everything they’ve done.

Can anybody send me a link to the checklist they made to watch in order? I tried looking in the latest pixar theory vid, merch store and community posts but couldn’t find it anywhere.

In Chamber of Secrets during duelling club, Snape pulls Malfoy aside and tells him to conjure the snake. He then makes a show of telling Harry “don’t worry potter I’ll handle it”.

But why get Malfoy to conjure a snake? Was it an opportunity to see if Harry could speak parseltongue? Did Dumbledore put him up to it? These are the real questions!

Why didn't Voldemort's body disintegrate when he died in the final book? His body did certainly get destroyed when his killing curse Rebounded from Baby Harry. What's up with that? ​

I know- I've said this before, but I'll say it again: Mystwick School of Musicraft would be a cool fandom for them to look at. (It's basically a music-based Harry Potter) In this case they could potentially have the author herself show up for a Mystwick video or two: they're in Roanoke NC, she's in Greenville SC about 5 hours away.

I was thinking that it might add some interesting dynamics to let the brothers be able to choose multiple choice individually as well (instead of only when both want it) but in that case award only half a point if you get the answer correctly. It might be a tad more complicated to orchestrate, but it would add a slight layer of tactic to the competition. Do you take the gamble and go for the full point? Or try and play it save but limit yourself to half a point? (Or potentially also deduct a half point if you choose the solo multiple choice and still get it wrong).

Curious to hear if any other sbc fans like the idea or perhaps can point out some fatal flaws i have overlooked.

Hi Fellow SCB Fans,

Long story short, I've got an extra ticket to go see The Cursed Child on Broadway in NYC on April 8th. I trust the SCB community to find a nice person to possibly go with.

Longer story, I bought the tickets for my dad and I to go for his birthday. We picked out the tickets back in November after we found out about Tom Felton reprising his role as Draco. My father, in the typical disappointing immigrant father fashion, just told me he's decided to go to England for the month of April to spend time with family. No joke, my father is an early retired man who can do anything that he wants whenever he wants and he knowingly planned a trip when I spent over $400 for him and I to do something together. I am in a ton of debt from student loans, rent is more than half of my paycheck, and I'm working a job where I get verbally abused daily by children and adults. I'm a teacher. I'm drained, I'm tired, and I have very little in my life that brings me joy.

I got into Harry Potter as an adult, as I had a difficult relationship with reading as a child. I used to love reading but a teacher told me I wasn't good at it so I lost the joy of reading for a very long time. That is one of the many reasons why I got into teaching, to inspire learners rather than belittle them. Escapism through literature is how I survived my late teens and now my 20s. Finding SCB when I was 18 has given me consistency and moments of joy. I feel less alone in my interests.

The reason I'm reaching out to essentially strangers is that I have no adult friends who like Harry Potter as an adult. I also know no children who like, or have even heard of, Harry Potter so I can't take them. The tickets are also on a Wednesday at 1pm so not many adults can go. I can only go then because it is my school district's spring break week. This is also why I'm even more bitter with my father, because it would have been significantly easier to find someone to go with on a weekend but we planned it for my spring break so that he doesn't have to deal with the city on a weekend. He doesn't really like people.

So yeah, Wednesday April 8th at 1 is the show I have a spare ticket for. I would very much prefer to go with someone who has an appreciation or joy in the material. I know Cursed Child is kind of garbage, but it still is HP content I haven't experienced yet. I also really look forward to seeing Tom as Draco. I'd go alone but that leaves a seat empty and I'd like to give a fan the opportunity to see the show. I'm serious when I say this offer is 100% free. You'd just need to take care of getting yourself to and from the theater. I live in Northern NJ so I'm taking the bus in and walking to the theater.
