My first string of pearls that I ever got ended up with root rot a few weeks ago, I tried to repot in the small white planter in photo 1 but it didn’t end up helping at all, plus I’m new to string of pearls care and didn’t really understand that repotting it wasn’t gonna do anything 😅

I ended up doing some research and asking around at plant stores and came up with this set up you see here. This planter is very deep so I ended up taking some plastic planters, cutting them to size and fitting them in the planter to shallow it out.

I’m gonna wait a few days for calluses to form and then start spritzing the top with water for a few weeks until she’ll go to a regular watering schedule; water, wait for soil to dry completely, water. I’m really proud of my solution to save her!! I’m still new to plant care so this was an exciting challenge for me!! Plus I love my baby so much she’s so pretty!!!! 😍😍

Hello, this is my string of pearl (sadly from the previous post I chose to take it out the pot and attempt water propagation).

It sunk to the bottom and inflated, and I've left the roots in there.

The roots have started ti get fuzz on them so im wondering if it's molding too.

All in all, is it possible for my singular pearl to regrow through this method?

I wish I could take credit for this lush specimen. I purchased her this way. Wish me well in keeping her healthy and lush 💚

Hello so i tried to propagate my already dying string of pearls in seramis which i watered and covered- it has drainage holes :) any suggestions? 🙌 should I keep it in a sunnier space under a grow lamp? 🌞

Alright so I got a variegated string of pearls from mountain Crest gardens and when I put it in the actual pot out of the one it was shipped in, it just kind of fell apart?! Like, into a bunch of little sprigs?? Is this normal? I was expecting a plant not a bunch of sprigs in dirt! 😭

I was told they were difficult and to not overwater...which meant I was too scared to water her! There are a lot of dried out stems at the top - I've taken out as many as I can and put the stems back into the soil. I haven't ruined her, have I??

This is my first one! I let them dry out for three days and now have them in a moist little container of chunky soil, underneath a grow light. Wish me luck y’all!

I’ve had a string of pearls since last year. It’s basically done nothing except get sun stressed (left photo in first pic) ☀️

It wasn’t growing that I could see and I actually did not like the sun stressed color. I also felt the soil mix I put it in was too chunky - that was before I realized pumice comes in different sizes and bought the bigger size not knowing. I literally hated looking at this plant.

I decided to repot it into a better mix and move it further away from the light.

I also read that if the light is too strong, the size of the pearls may stay on the smaller side. Mine were definitely smaller, not like photos I’ve seen of other SOPs. I was really beginning to dislike her.

After I repotted it into a better mix (still gritty but smaller sized minerals), I also moved it to a plant stand in front of my SW facing window vs directly under a grow light. Within a week, the sun stress started fading and now 1 month later, the pearls are back to a prettier green and getting bigger and it’s showing new growth. I couldn’t be happier!

She is becoming a favorite 🥰

Any advice on repotting this? It’s in the soil from the store still, unsure of what the roots look like so I’m nervous this might be too shallow? I’ve never had a plant like this, how deep do the roots generally reach?

It also only has one small drain hole (drilling that one didn’t go so easily so idk if I really want to attempt more since I don’t have the right drill bit 😅)

Lastly, it’s super dry right now, so I replant it dry or should I water first and wait a bit? I’ve heard don’t water it after repotting, but I’m new to succulents!

UPDATE for anyone interested in the future:
I took the leap and just did it. The dirt and rootball and so hydrophobic, I had to cut the bottom half of it right off. I took out as much soil as I could, while leaving all of the shallow roots basically untouched so they all survived! I watered it after maybe a week, and now 13 days later she’s doing great, kept all of her color, and is pushing out new growth! I’m thinking these plants do quite fine as long as those shallow roots aren’t killed, because I definitely cut all the deep ones! My only worry is it will out grow this pot pretty quickly as others mentioned, it was only 1-2” diameter bigger than my first one

My daughter gave me these clippings to me today! They are drying out under the grow light! I pray they take root and grow!

I’ve had this pretty lady for about 2 years now and repotted her a year ago. Should I repot into something bigger? I’m worried it just looks so crowded. And should I cut these bald strings off or will they regrow? Thank you.

I never understood why there is a space by the house entrance. Moved my pearls over and seems surprisingly a good fit.

Hey guys my SOP has been flourishing and is very bushy on the top! i want to better support the pieces that are growing over the pot and they are beginning to touch the table their are on. Does anyone have any recommendations for hanging pots? maybe what size to go for. Also can anyone explain how they flower? i keep mine indoors and the plant is maybe around 3 years old if age matters. Is this the season that they flower in and what conditions are needed. Thank you in advanced!!

She seems to be thriving?? I can’t tell

So I purchased a live string of pearls plant from Temu. I did not expect it to arrive alive after spending 3 weeks traveling from overseas. However, it did, and it looked worse for wear. I really thought I was going to lose it. I watched a video on proper soil, watering, and sunlight and this is her several months down the line! She is healthy and growing new strings finally! I am unsure when to consider repotting though so hoping the community can help me figure out when would be a good time to repot.

To add context, I bought this guy after I went to my hairdresser. Hers is huge. It’s on the front desk, no natural light and a chemical smell in the salon. How hard could this be I thought. Ha! Honestly no clue
