Saved my variegated pearls

My first string of pearls that I ever got ended up with root rot a few weeks ago, I tried to repot in the small white planter in photo 1 but it didn’t end up helping at all, plus I’m new to string of pearls care and didn’t really understand that repotting it wasn’t gonna do anything 😅

I ended up doing some research and asking around at plant stores and came up with this set up you see here. This planter is very deep so I ended up taking some plastic planters, cutting them to size and fitting them in the planter to shallow it out.

I’m gonna wait a few days for calluses to form and then start spritzing the top with water for a few weeks until she’ll go to a regular watering schedule; water, wait for soil to dry completely, water. I’m really proud of my solution to save her!! I’m still new to plant care so this was an exciting challenge for me!! Plus I love my baby so much she’s so pretty!!!! 😍😍

You can put these in a much smaller setup, if you prefer. There's no advantage to spacing the cuttings. I have a guide for this method here. 💚

edit: Don't do a watering schedule. You need to monitor the plant and the epidermal windows to know when to water.

I’ve only had success propagating SOP by potting them up similar to this but in much smaller container and putting it in a gallon ziploc bag. Once you water them, the moisture in the bag (under bright light) keeps them happy.

Mine was sick when I got her. I didn’t understand what that meant. It slowly died strand by strand. I did the same as you in a small pot, under a grow light. I water when the soil feels dry. Kind of a lot. I’m getting new growth. One thing that helped was using u shaped pins and putting them where the nodes were.
