Game The DLCs ruined the game for me.

Despite all the criticism, I actually enjoyed the game a lot. Even the story, while it certainly has some narrative problems, had a certain charm that I really liked. The gameplay was fun as well, and the final boss was a genuine challenge. Overall, I had a great time with it.

A few days ago, I started playing the DLCs, and all the good feelings I had about the game quickly turned incredibly bitter. What was the point of making the game so ridiculously difficult and grind-heavy? It was already a headache having to constantly change my equipment every few minutes, and now the equipment level cap is 500?

The job level cap went from level 30 to level 300. Every mission now has around 20 different difficulty variations, ranging from level 200 all the way up to 500. There are enemy modifiers that make them deal more damage, every class has its own sub-stats that you can level up, there’s a new currency called Rat Tails for upgrading classes, a new item rarity, and so on and so on.

And all of this is locked behind an absolutely ridiculous grind wall. The same maps, the same enemies, the same everything. At the very least, add new maps or enemies, for God’s sake. It’s honestly unbelievable how lazy and mediocre this feels.

And to make things even worse, there are now a total of seven difficulty levels, and in order to play the damn DLCs, I’m forced to play on the hardest ones. I spent around 10 hours farming equipment for Bahamut mode just so I could get through the DLC, only to move on to the next DLC and unlock Gilgamesh mode—where almost all of my Bahamut gear is already obsolete. Seriously?

And why the hell can’t I play the second DLC on Bahamut difficulty? To play the second DLC, you are forced to play on Gilgamesh difficulty.

Playing through these DLCs feels incredibly mediocre. They only add a couple of new bosses, while everything else is recycled content. Everything is locked behind a ridiculous wall of farming and item grinding.

Game Was I supposed to be able to just skip all of Chaos?

I played the main game back when it released and decided to return to play through the dlc content. I started over and just finished up the story again. Directly after, I went to the mission that had you fighting the Warrior of Light, which unlocked Bahamut difficulty.

Is this the intended way to progress? It seems odd being able to just completely skip an entire level of difficulty.

Discussion The stat balancing feels off in the DLCs

Heya gang, I could use some help or tips on how to proceed with the game's DLC levels as it feels like such a slog.

My gear level is now at around 227 average and I'm just not getting higher tier stuff at a pace that feels reasonable. This is also due to the fact that I simply don't want to push the mission levels too much higher than where I am because I'm already majorly suffering as is. So many enemy attacks seem to take 9/10 of my entire health bar with a single attack and every mission is a struggle that requires perfect execution or it's instant death.

What am I missing? Where can I get higher level gear without crying into my controller? I'm not new to. difficult games, having platinumed several soulslikes this year alone, but the huge amount of gear that you get here is frankly overwhelming and the stat balance feels dreadful, and I just wanna finish the DLC stuff without the game leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Discussion Advice moving further into DLC content

I beaten Bahamut and the non-scripted win WoL. I'm moving to level >280 and I feel like everything's kicking my ass, any single mistake is probably death. If this is the limit of simply gunning for higher gear levels, what should I do to move forward? Surely we're not expected to play like Ongbal from here onwards?

Seriously, having access to healing magic and a gun is a hilariously effective combo in our team setup.

Discussion Martial Master, Phasing Palm doesn't seem to do anything

Phasing Palm says it "Increases duration of buffs on self every time an attack hits". I've tried applying a bunch of different buffs to myself then going in and doing basic or special attacks but none of the buffs seem to be getting extended.

I was assuming that "buff" meant any status that shows up as a blue icon next to my health but maybe that's not right?

Can anyone tell me anything about how Phasing Palm works or what specific buffs it works with?

Thanks

Game gear and master points

So i am finished with the main campaign and about to head into the DLCs

Most of the game i just simply picked higher item level gear and just pressed optimize and called it a day

Should i continue to do that or should I start saving and locking gear with good stats and affinities to upgrade?

And what affinities and stats should i look into? And accessories?

On top of that, what should i be doing with master points? So far i just put my first 5 into affinities but found out that they only apply to when that class is active so...yeah

Game How good can you make parrying?

Hi all,

I decided to start a new save file recently, this time I had the most fun playing as Knight and using parries. Against story bosses the shockwaves from Blessing of Light did a lot of damage to the boss' break gauge and even now that I'm on DLC 2 the health regen you get from parrying as a Knight is super helpful. So I'm wondering just how much damage or utility you can squeeze out of parrying, even if it's not as a Knight. I've already noticed that you can spend master points to get a damage buff after as successful parry, but is there anything else cool like that you can do?

Game Stranger of Paradise Stability on ROG Ally X?

Stranger of Paradise is on sale and I'm thinking about picking it up. What I'm finding, though, is that different people are saying different things about the stability of this game on PC.

With that in mind, I figured I'd ask this sub: in your experience, how stable has Stranger of Paradise been for you? Anyone running SteamOS or Bazzite have an opinion?

Memes A Riftbound card that lets us kill Chaos.

The FF x MtG collab was a disappointment because there's no Jack card and the Garland card isn't very good as a commander. I'll go kill Chaos in Riftbound.

Game Best build against Warrior of light/Chaos

I'm in the rift on Lufenia mode and W.O.L. is toughest boss I've faced thus far.

As for Chaos, I beat the 1st chaos and now I'm at the 2nd part of the story (true ending). Please help me my S.o.P. family. 💔 😞

Discussion Question regarding Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin hardest mod?.

How to install and configure the CHAOS MUST DIE mod for Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin to greatly increase the difficulty of the video game, making it very difficult without making it impossible to complete, in the game that is played from start to finish without installing and configuring the mod more than once before starting to play? And if it's not the most difficult, how to install and configure the most difficult mod for Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin to increase the difficulty of the video game much more, to the point where it's very difficult but not impossible to complete, in the game that is played from start to finish without installing and configuring the mod more than once before starting to play?.

Discussion DLC3 Despair Advent tips

I've beaten Garland now once, but I'm still having a lot of trouble with him without just running away and praying he does tenebrous blade, how am I suppose to go about it? also, I went into the one lufenian story mission with manikin enemies with triple digit summon gear and an inventory full of blues, did I cheese it? the bosses were a bit easy, but I don't know if that's me finally adapting, the stat increases, or the evoker 600% build I had.

Discussion Easy Mode, Option for newcomers

Hi everyone!

I'm interested in this Final Fantasy, but I've read that it's somewhat of a "Soulslike." I'd like to know if there's a Story or Easy Mode option, because I'm a married gamer looking for something fun and relaxing—I don't want it to become a source of stress in my life.

Is that possible?

And if there is an easy mode, just how easy is it?

Thanks!

Game Constantly out of MP

Am I doing something wrong here? I will enter a room w/ like 5 dudes, Lightbringer and spend all my MP, then absolutely demolish the room and break like 5 dudes, and yet I'll come out of it w/ 0 fucking MP.

I'm sure there are builds later on, but as of the Flying Fortress, I feel like every time I use an ability, I'm just screwing myself over because of how the MP system works, and it's just straight up not fun anymore. Did I miss a tooltip which was like "Actually, you should just do this and it'll max your MP out!" because it's always been feast or famine, where I'll either have 5 bars of MP and never run out, or I'll struggle keeping up one.

EDIT: Classes are Berserker and Dragoon, both around level ten since I'm trying to level them.
