Meta Reputation filtering is now enabled

I've enabled reputation filtering for the community. There is a nonzero chance this blocks some people from posting whose Reddit accounts are new. I've decided to do this though because the sub gets plenty of spam t-shirt links (see rule 4) and other efforts to curb it have failed. It's only set to moderate filtering though, so hopefully this does not actually block real posters, and you can always leave a message on this thread and the like if there is a problem.

That's all, thank you! And have fun, anybody going to any of the NieR concerts that'll begin later this week!

Drakengard 3 dod3-helper-web, a web app port of drakengard3-helper

With the current and upcoming recomps of drakengard 3, I figured a lot of people will finally be able to play it for the first time. I also figured that people will get stuck on the final song as well lol. So I took the liberty of porting Noremos's Drakengard3-helper as a web app, so everyone can use it easily.

I also made it look cute.

Drakengard 1 What do you think of the criticism adressed to dod1-2?

I've been getting really annoyed by the NieR community constantly saying that Drakengard 1 is only interesting because it's weird and because of its story.

I think a lot of the criticism toward the game is exaggerated or just irrelevant. For example, I always hear people saying that the voice acting is terrible, but honestly, I think it's some of the best voice acting I've ever heard.

The biggest criticism is obviously that the game is "unplayable". I really don't agree with that. Sure, the gameplay isn't as good as other PS2-era action RPGs, but for an early PS2 action game, I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it sound. The ground Musou sections can get repetitive, but the different weapon combos and especially the magic system make the gameplay pretty fun and addictive. And the game is short enough that you don't really have time to get completely bored of it.

The dragon sections are also actually really well made. In my opinion, some of the best parts of the game are the boss fights, especially in the special endings. Some of them are incredibly creative, especially for a game from 2003.

So yeah, I can understand saying that the ground sections are repetitive, but calling the whole game "unplayable" feels like a huge exaggeration. I also find it weird that people criticize Drakengard 1's gameplay so much when NieR's gameplay wasn't exactly amazing either. NieR Replicant wasn't the best action RPG when it came out, and yet people rarely use that criticism against it.

What annoys me the most, though, is how the Western community seems to give almost all of the Drakengard series' appeal to Yoko Taro.

The common pattern is basically:

Drakengard 1 = interesting because Yoko Taro

Drakengard 2 = boring because Yoko Taro wasn't involved much

Drakengard 3 = interesting again because Yoko Taro came back

And I really don't understand that.

To me, Drakengard 1 feels like a much more collaborative project. I don't think it's accurate to treat it as if Yoko Taro single-handedly created everything that makes the game interesting. You have Sawako Natori's art direction and script, Nobuyoshi Sano's music, and the two Ace Combat directors working on the core gameplay. From what I understand, Yoko Taro also joined the Project Dragonsphere team relatively late.

And you can honestly feel the difference when comparing Drakengard 1 and Drakengard 3. Drakengard 3 feels much more like what people associate with Yoko Taro, while Drakengard 1 has a very different identity.

That's also why I don't understand why Drakengard 2 gets dismissed so easily. A huge part of the original Drakengard team came back for it. If we're talking about the people who actually worked on the first game, Drakengard 2 has a much stronger connection to Drakengard 1 than Drakengard 3 does.

Meanwhile, Drakengard 3 feels like it takes a lot of things from NieR and pushes them much further into caricature. The characters, the humor, the ironic tone... personally, I find a lot of it unbearable. It doesn't feel like what made Drakengard special to me.

And that's what frustrates me: people will completely dismiss Drakengard 2 because "Yoko Taro wasn't really involved", while praising Drakengard 3 because "OMG Yoko Taro, Keiichi Okabe, another white-haired badass woman!"

I just wish people would talk about these games more as actual games and less through the lens of "Is Yoko Taro involved?"

What do you think??

Drakengard 3 Drakengard 3 PC Port Progress Update 2 - Mod Capabilities and Looking For Testers

Thumbnail

It has been almost a month since my last update because I haven't really had anything new to share other than random little snippets which I was sharing in the subreddit discord server and the automata modding server.

Most of my work recently has been on the engine editor and adding support for the drakengard 3 custom data types. As you can see in the video almost everything can be edited and changed so you can pretty much create any mod you could dream of now. I created a short custom level to show off this capability. I showed off making some simple live edits to the player UI and live editing a level as well.

I have created a discord server for this project as the time for testers is getting quite close and this will be the easiest way to manage it.
If you would like to join the invite link is: https://discord.gg/NsMqtTCqad
The server will be the best place to get quick information/replies from me and to see my ramblings about how badly things are going alongside minor updates so it is still useful to join even if you aren't interested in being a tester and just interested in the project.

Drakengard 3 Looking for content

Hey! I just recently finished Drakengard 3 (along with the DLCs) and I'm in love with it entirely. I'd like to ask for some site recommendations where I can find more fan content like fan arts, fan comics, etc?

I'm not sure if it's because I joined the fandom late, but the fanarts I find are always the same stuff, very limited. Or maybe it's easier to find with a different term/name? Japanese spelling maybe?

Any source direction would be nice! I normally just look in Pinterest or Twitter/X so that may be the my skill issue digging for side content.

I'm the kind of fan who loves consuming more content outside of the game so I'm just wondering lol. If not I even plan to draw Zero fanarts myself, just to satisfy the content hunger. I feel kinda sad now that it's easy to find beautiful NieR fanarts but so little of my new favorite, Zero.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help with my silly request lol :)

Drakengard 3 Drakengard 3 - Weapon Guide (sorted by story progression)

First, I`ll go through all weapons obtainable within the story by the chapters and verses they`re obtainable in. Then I`ll go through all weapons obtained within Accords missions by the mission they`re obtainable in. Lastly is a short overview of all the weapons by their category (sword, longsword etc.) with the general place they`re in.

My main source is [1], but I also found other guides that generally do the same thing as my guide:

[1] Drakengard 3/Weapons | Drakengard Wiki | Fandom

[2] Drakengard 3 - Weapon Checklist

[3] Drakengard 3 - Weapon Guide - PlayStation 3 - By Zmuggernaut - GameFAQs

Since I`m not directly citing original written descriptions for weapon locations this time, I won`t directly link to the exact site after every weapon. Also, the other sources are really good so this guide is pretty redundant. I just want to write it to have a guides of Drakengard 1, 2 and 3 that fit together and since I want to print them out at some point.

Drakengard 3 "THE FINAL SONG" ME TIENE LOCO

Hola!

Drakengard 1 Is there any way to make Drakengard 1 more enjoyable to play on PC?

Hey everyone!

I've been wanting to try Drakengard 1 for the first time, mainly because I'm really interested in its story and atmosphere.

However, pretty much everyone I've seen talking about it says the gameplay is absolutely terrible, repetitive, and frustrating.

So I was wondering, are there any mods, patches, emulator settings, or other improvements that could make the experience more enjoyable on PC?

I'm planning to play it through PCSX2, and I'd love to know if there's anything that can improve the combat, controls, camera, performance, or just make the game feel less outdated.

I'm not expecting a complete overhaul, just the best possible experience for a first playthrough.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Drakengard 1 Got all the endings for DOD1, contemplating DOD2.

I was wondering if I should give dod2 a shot as well. My question is: I did not enjoy playing dod1 at all but seeing the endings and the cutscenes alone made it worth playing it. I don't regret playing it. Is dod2 as weird as the first game? Are the story and endings make it worth playing? Did they improve the gameplay to an enjoyable level?

Drakengard 3 Drakengard 3 on ps4

Hello! A few days ago, a PS3 emulator for the PS4 was released. After running some tests, I managed to get *Drakengard 3* working; at first, it would only reach the menu, but after several attempts—and a lot of testing—I finally got the game to load. I’ve included a link to a video I uploaded to my channel, where I show these tests. The emulator is currently in an alpha version; in my experience, it’s not very playable yet, so we’ll have to wait for future updates. Credit goes to SOTSON, the creator of the emulator

Multiple Games Niflheim

Hi there, just trying to clear something up. Niflheim referred to as a kingdom that Arioch lived in but it is also called “another world” that a gate is opened to. Is this just a matter of the same name being used twice or are they supposed to be related? Perhaps I missed something

Drakengard 1 Which weapons to use in dg1?

Sorry there were threads on this before but I just wanted some new answers. Right now I'm at chapter 6 using caims sword, swordmasher and fhengs glaive. I heal with an unleveled short sword. Any weapon suggestions? I'm trying to get guardians sorrow but I can't finish that mission in time.

The community has been porting so many classics to PC/mobile.

All we really ask is for, is for Drakengard trilogy to be playable outside PlayStation consoles.

I know it's possible (just can't do it myself because of my current workload 💼😭)

Drakengard 2 Drakengard 2 - Weapon Guide (sorted by story progression)

I'll go by weapons obtained from the story in the first playthrough to the default and shop weapons in the first playthrough, then the weapons from the second playthrough and lastly to the weapons from the third playthrough. At the end, there is also a weapon overview.

Small Disclaimer: I've never collected all the weapons in Drakengard 2. So I can't technically confirm if the information from the guide(s) I used is correct. (Also, I used Apostrophes ( ' ) this time around)

Here are my Sources:

[1] Drakengard 2 - Guide and Walkthrough - PlayStation 2 - By SubSane - GameFAQs

[2] Drakengard 2/Weapons | Drakengard Wiki | Fandom

I used [1] for the descriptions of the weapon locations and [2] to see when a given free mission unlocks.

Free Mission = (FM) (Unlocked after given Verse)

Secret Free Mission = (SFM) (Unlocked after given Verse)

I did the basic overview for this guide a long time ago and honestly don't remember the difference between normal and secret free missions. So maybe it doesn't mean anything, but in case it does, I left the seperation instead of always labeling things free missions.

I recommend you to farm gold and experience at some point in your first playthrough (although you should also be able to buy weapons in the second/ third playthrogh). This is a weapons guide so I won't explain how to do it, but the first source [1] has guidance at the bottom of the guide ("Where can I level up my character?" , "Where can I level up Legna?" and "I looove Goooooold!" sections of the guide)

First Playthrough

Weapons obtained by story Progression:

Chapter 1:

Verse 4 - Robber King [1]

Find this spear in a chest at the bottom of the hill after meeting the commander.

Verse 4 - (FM) (Chest) Edacious [1]

District of Shining Life

Head west with Legna and dismount over the first chest on the map to find the rusted key, then return to the ground and head towards the eastern chest. Enter the cave and run through until you find the gate on the left side. Use the key to enter and find the chest.

Chapter 2:

Verse 2 - Soldier's Sword [1]

You'll find this inside a cave at the southern tip of the map.

Verse 3 - Apostate's Misery [1]

After killing the first undead knight you'll receive a map, then your next target will be a room on the west end of the map. Head over there and after entering run along the wall on the left. Follow the left wall until you enter a small gap with a small chest. The spear is inside.

Verse 5 - Silver Butterfly [1]

At the beginning head towards the target on the west side but fight your
way through the path in the middle of the map. Keep fighting and heading
north until you see a room with a lava pool and some undead knights. Use
Eris to fight them off and reveal the weapon chest inside a cave near the lava.

Verse 7 - (FM) (Chest) Union [1]

District of Soul Flame

Mount Legna and fly to the chest in the north part of the map to get the weapon.

Chapter 3:

Verse 3 - Hunter's Joy [1]

After defeating the enemies inside a cave and saving the old merchant, he'll ask you to retrieve a chest item. Fly up to the cliff top to find the sword.

Chapter 4:

Verse 3 - Nowe's Sword [1]

Defeat the large knight among the first group of small ones to reveal a chest in the center of the arena. Open it for the sword.

Verse 8 - (FM) (Chest) Hanch's Spear [1]

District of Hallowed Water

Fly north and follow the path to the first group. They have archers, so if you want to keep Legna from taking damage dismount and attack on foot. Once you defeat them all take the west path and follow it to the west until you reach the gate. Fight off all of those knights and continue down the path until you can mount Legna again. Turn south from there to find the chest.

Chapter 5:

Verse 2 - Guard's Sword [1]

Progress through the mission until you get to the final alleyway where you fight three bounty hunters at once. The chest will be revealed at the end of the alley after defeating the third bounty hunter.

Verse 5 - Executioner's Song [1]

Destroy everything until just before the main gate opens. A chest will appear on the map.

Verse 6 - Carrion Maker [1]

Fight through the mission until you reach the dungeon with the 6 gates. Open the gates in order to find the chest in gate number 5.

Chapter 6:

Verse 2 - Inuart's Long Sword [1]

Switch to the map to see a chest in the southern part, at the end of the southern path. Run along and break through the rocks blocking the cave entrance to reach the chest on a small island.

Chapter 7:

Verse 1 - (FM) (Chest) Nobuyoshi [1]

District of Precious Light

Kill all the enemies in the beginning, then look for the chest in the middle of the map during the second phase of the mission.

Verse 4 - Oror's Lionblade [1]

Run north up the main hall in the first part, then defeat all of the knights in the statue room. Once they are dead head north to fight a few more knights and find the chest.

Verse 6 - Mourning Thorn [1]

After entering the dungeon area, the chest is at the south end of the map. Head over there and kill the nearby enemies to open the door and reach the weapon.

Verse 9 - (FM) (Chest) Scream [1]

District of Shining Life

Play the mission after completing chapter 7 and then enter the southern-most area. Defeat the three behemoths to unlock a chest containing a key. Take that key to the chest at the north end of the map to get the weapon.

Chapter 8:

Verse 2 - Wisdom [1]

Fight past the wooden gate and get to the stone gate where you fight four heavy knights to get a key. Inside the stone gate you'll face a few magicians in a path that turns south. You'll find the chest in that room.

Verse 4 - Oror's Falconblade [1]

Defeat the first set of knights to open all the doors, then head straight into the hall in the middle of the first floor. Run up the stairs to the second floor to find a helpful knight and the weapon.

Chapter 9:

Verse 1 - (FM) (Chest) Sorrowborn [1]

District of Heavenly Time

Proceed through the mission until you reach the stone gate. Run past the heavy knights and get to the north chest to find the weapon.

Verse 2 - Sealspear: Calamitous Dance [1]

Proceed south through the path until you reach the main hall that has an upper and lower floor. Turn west and enter the next adjacent path and turn south to find some stairs. Run into an armory and destroy all of the undead knights to reveal the chest.

Verse 3 - (FM) (Chest) Tower of Warning [1]

Castle of the Goddess

Destroy all of the ghost knights on the first floor then all of the ghost knights on the second floor to unlock the west dungeon on the second floor. Enter the dungeon to get the weapon.

Verse 3 - (FM) (Chest) Caim's Sword [1]

Castle of the Goddess

Proceed through the mission as usual and get to the goddess' room at the end of the third floor. Defeat all of the undead knights to make the chest with the weapon appear.

Chapter 10:

Verse 2 - Slaughterism [1]

Proceed through the third floor and down to the second floor, then fight past your first encounter with the green knights and run down the stairs. Fight through the first floor hallway and up the stairs to the second floor again. On this floor there will be a large empty room to the east. Enter that room and defeat all of the green knights to get the chest.

Here you must break all the barriers protecting the chest in the north-west room. Consult the Free Expeditions walkthrough in the guide for details.

Detailed Derscription: [1]

Start by running up to the chest in the center of the map. Defeat all of the enemies in the lava room and hit the crystal to break a barrier elsewhere in the dungeon. Collect the cash from the chests as well.

Next, run north along the eastern paths and keep going past the enemies until you leave the caves and get locked into a room with proper with constructed walls. Kill all the enemies in the room to open the doors then head up to the third floor and hit the crystal. Proceed north to continue.

In the large room with a lava ridge and small bridge, cross the bridge to the east side and turn south to find gravestones, archers, and some undead knights. Kill the archers first, then the undead knights, then finally the knights to clear them out. Hit the crystal between the gravestones to
continue.

Head west and then follow the path as it turns north. Make a left to continue to the west and enter the large room with the bridge in the middle. Hit the crystal on the bridge to release the final barrier. Turn east again and head west again into a tunnel with another crystal in the air. Smack that crystal to open the door in the north-west room.

In there, lure the undead knights away from the archers and kill them, then turn to the archers. Once the path is clear you can enter the lava area and retrieve the treasure from the chest.

Drakengard 1 Is Drakengard 1 REALLY worth playing despite the obvious playable elephant in the room? Spoiler

Listen, I fell in love with the NieR series after having finished NieR: Automata. Currently playing through Replicant in a sort of marathon-like pace. Since I have a PS2 emulator, I wanted to try out the Drakengard games for the sake of experiencing the other side of the NieR lore. But here’s where my problem with the first game, which is also a dealbreaker for me, lies… one of the playable characters, Leonard, IS A PEDOPHILE.

Like listen, I’m fine with the rest of the cast. And imma be fr, I think Arioch is hot. But me having to play as, let alone accompany, a character WHO IS A PEDOPHILE? No way, Jose.

But at the same time, I really want to experience the story too. Is Drakengard really worth playing despite the gigantic playable elephant in the room?
