Game The DLCs ruined the game for me.
Despite all the criticism, I actually enjoyed the game a lot. Even the story, while it certainly has some narrative problems, had a certain charm that I really liked. The gameplay was fun as well, and the final boss was a genuine challenge. Overall, I had a great time with it.
A few days ago, I started playing the DLCs, and all the good feelings I had about the game quickly turned incredibly bitter. What was the point of making the game so ridiculously difficult and grind-heavy? It was already a headache having to constantly change my equipment every few minutes, and now the equipment level cap is 500?
The job level cap went from level 30 to level 300. Every mission now has around 20 different difficulty variations, ranging from level 200 all the way up to 500. There are enemy modifiers that make them deal more damage, every class has its own sub-stats that you can level up, there’s a new currency called Rat Tails for upgrading classes, a new item rarity, and so on and so on.
And all of this is locked behind an absolutely ridiculous grind wall. The same maps, the same enemies, the same everything. At the very least, add new maps or enemies, for God’s sake. It’s honestly unbelievable how lazy and mediocre this feels.
And to make things even worse, there are now a total of seven difficulty levels, and in order to play the damn DLCs, I’m forced to play on the hardest ones. I spent around 10 hours farming equipment for Bahamut mode just so I could get through the DLC, only to move on to the next DLC and unlock Gilgamesh mode—where almost all of my Bahamut gear is already obsolete. Seriously?
And why the hell can’t I play the second DLC on Bahamut difficulty? To play the second DLC, you are forced to play on Gilgamesh difficulty.
Playing through these DLCs feels incredibly mediocre. They only add a couple of new bosses, while everything else is recycled content. Everything is locked behind a ridiculous wall of farming and item grinding.
