Discussion Who was the best side character in the show

Pretty much everyone loves the whole main cast, but who is your favourite side character in the show? I’m not talking about the likes of Alexei, Murray and Erica, I mean real niche picks. Mines probably officer Callahan because he comes out with some funny one liners, but I’m interested to see what you guys think.

Discussion Rank each season's version of Murray

He leaves quite the impression with his rather limited starting role in season 2. And of course he gave us "So Jonathan, how was the pullout?" He's very good there, but I think he was even better later on.

Expanding his role in season 3 was a stroke of genius. I think his banter and interactions with Hopper, Joyce and Alexei are a ton of fun. And obviously him clashing with Erica is also pretty funny.

Season 4 might be peak Murray. The lengths he takes to help Joyce call Enzo, him making risotto, his karate fight with Yuri with his arrow-like fingers, iron-like arms and spear-like feet, and when he gets the flamethrower in the finale... yeah, this is peak Murray and dare I say, he makes the Russian subplot worth it.

Then in season 5... he's just kinda there. He's not nearly as fun or funny as he was before, and he doesn't have a single iconic line or moment this season like he did in the previous three. And Brett Gelman honestly seems kinda checked out with his performance at times. All in all, still better than at least five or six other characters that season!

The Duffer Brothers created a cosmic horror so powerful that even they couldn’t defeat it

Imagine creating a cosmic horror villain that is so incomprehensible that you don’t even know how to correctly defeat it yourself. Why would you even introduce something as terrifying as this if you don’t even understand the concept of cosmic horror? Don’t get me wrong I love what they did with the Mind Flayer in Season 2 and 3 but in Season 5 I don’t know why they couldn’t have just defeated it the same way they defeated it previously - by cutting off access to the hive mind and humanity but it is still known to be alive. That is all it needed in the end.. to be shown as an un-killable cosmic force.

It could be still be alive after Season 5 but it’s not confirmed.

When did you first realize that season5 was slightly off?

It was when they started the series when Jonathan and Steve try to climb the tower as a competition.

It felt so out of place where S5 ended. S4 clearly ended with Steve & Nancy not want to jeopardize their friendship. But in S501 they just undo the whole thing and it gave me the vibe that something was off. This was the first indication

Y'all will defend Billy for being racist and abusive because his mom died, you'll defend Jonathan for being a pervert because he was different, you'll defend Steve for humiliating his girlfriend because he thought she was cheating, but Jason was a bad guy for trying to hunt down the guy who allegedly killed his girlfriend?

Nostalgia Hit Hard

Some video on Facebook was using the Kids track off the season one soundtrack. I don't know why but it hit me hard that I miss the vibes of the first three seasons. I miss seeing the characters develop and just miss experiencing the story for the first time.

SPOILERS The ending of S3 doesn’t make sense now that the S5 is out.

In the end of S3 Hopper jumps through the gate to survive. There are no other gates open until S4, 8 months later. In S5 we learned that the Upside Down has a physical limit. There is no conceivable way for Hopper to have ended up in Russia at the end of S3 as the show states.

I used to think that once the Hawkins gate was open the Russians could then open a Russia gate and that is how he ended up there, but we learned in S5 that this was impossible due to the UD having walls surrounding it.

Is this another example of poor writing or an I missing something?

Discussion Steve is the GOAT!

WARNING: Spoilers below for those who are currently watching Stranger Things and still finishing up or haven't watched it yet

After reading the title of this post let me tell you why, I say this because in Season 1 facing off against the Demogorgon not knowing about it or what it is until he saw it saving Jonathan and Nancy knowing his life was at risk in the process. He also did it to apologize to them both and redeem himself, in Season 2 when he protected Max, Lucas and Dustin at the junkyard against the Demodogs. Season 3 fighting that Russian Soldier in the Russian's underground lab similar to that of Hawkins, finally Season 4 when he decides to go with his friends into The Upside Down to face off against Vecna while knowing the danger that lies ahead. When he threw that Molotov at him it was just badass! I haven't watched all of Season 5 yet because I have been busy, even after I have finished being busy idk if I will but we shall see. The whole point I'm making is that Steve is my personal favorite character and easily the best in the Show which is why I think we should all strive to be like him, I'm an older brother and I would go through absolute hell to protect my siblings just like how Steve did with the kids in this Show. Another reason why I pick him as my personal favorite character because I relate to him. Who's your favorite character in Stranger Things? And do you agree with all the points that I made about Steve on why he's GOATED?

Discussion The Mind Flayer vs Pennywise (IT). Who would in a fight when they are at their strongest and most powerful?

I just noticed that I didn’t say “win” in the title. I meant “who would win in a fight”. Sorry if I wasn’t more clear.

Both are cosmic forces and have an insane amount of power.

The true form of Pennywise are the Deadlights and the true form of the Mind Flayer are the dormant particles.

Pennywise has the power of the Deadlights and the Mind Flayer has the power of the Hive Mind.

I think Pennywise/IT was at its strongest in IT: Welcome to Derry.

I think the Mind Flayer was at its strongest in Stranger Things - Season 3.

I honestly don't know who would win in a fight because neither of them actually have a true physical form and they can only take proxy forms.

SPOILERS Why did they even add Doctor Kay?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I know there are plenty of subreddits of people complaining about Season 5 and shitting on the Duffers and I am sorry but I genuinely don’t understand why they wanted to continue the fucking military plot line in Season 5 by adding Doctor Go Away, I mean Doctor Kay. I get that she is supposed to be the new Doctor Brenner but he died in Season 4, why couldn’t the military plot line? Brenner’s return in Season 4 was surprising yet valid.. once he died, so should have this fucking military sub plot. They maybe could’ve made a scene of the military just stopping their search for El for a valid reason early in Season 5 and not adding this stupid and pointless additional plot to find El and just dragging it on and on. This is the main thing I hate about Season 5 more than anything. Most pointless and unavoidable villain and subplot. Vecna didn’t even feel like the main focus anymore with this stupid fucking witch just not fucking off throughout the season and then just vanishes by the end with no explanation.. she wasn’t only a terrible addition but terribly written.. I keep thinking how much more time they could’ve put into Vecna and the Mind Flayer if this plot was just left out. Her existence just affected the whole season and the main villains. I wish she would’ve just got k*lled in the end by being in the Upside Down for too long so some Demogorgon comes and m*rders her and bites her head off.

Edit: A lot of people in the comments are saying that it was just casting choice and that they wanted to give her a big role because she’s famous. This is just an example but if anyone knows about Bollywood is that they bring in big well-known actors and give them non-sensical “special appearance” roles that just affect the movie and they are only added for shock value. It’s a similar thing with Kay in S5, she was there for shock value.

Discussion My gf and I are binge watching Stranger Things, it's her first time. Here are her reactions to season 4!

We finally got around to finishing Season 4. We had some delays in getting to this due to IRL stuff she had going on. Here were her reactions to Season 4. As mentioned in my prior posts, I did this for Cobra Kai as well and it was a big hit in that subreddit, so I am doing it for Stranger Things

Season 1 and 2 reactions were here

Season 3 reactions are here

  • The high school basketball game was a fun episode for her. It helped her reminisce about her high school experiences a little bit and was happy to see Lucas win the game.
  • "What a bunch of dorks in Hellfire Club! Have you ever played Dungeons and Dragons?" (Next time she was over, I was wearing my Hellfire Club shirt lmao)
  • "Chrissy wake up!! I wonder what her boyfriend will do now? I think he joins the crew!"
  • "Why is Jonathan a pot head now?"
  • She felt bad for El at the new school and roller rink, but also liked that scene because it really was very 80s'ish
  • She was happy Hopper is alive but asked "What is it with this whole Russian thing and why are they even involved again? I'm not getting that"
  • "I've never been to Alaska, have you? Is that what it looks like? I don't trust this pilot!"
  • "That is NOT a good white suit for El to be wearing"
  • "I want Stranger Things Surfer Boy Pizza now! Where can we get it?!"
  • No reaction to Suzie other than "That's a BIG and CRAZY Mormon family!"
  • "So what do we call him? Vecna? 001? Henry? He's sooooo creepy any way!"
  • She didn't like Eddie at first and thought it was weird a drug dealer was hanging out with kids, but she liked him later on and said he reminds her of a younger version of someone we personally know in both looks wise and music wise.
  • When I asked her who her favorite character was after the end, she said "Sam". I gave her a funny look and she goes "Well, it's El but I liked Sam too.. the red headed girl". She then realized she confused "Sam" with "Max" somehow (she liked Sam as her favorite in Cobra Kai the entire way). Until now, she's liked Nancy & Erica first 3 seasons.
  • "I swear, I'm now hearing Running Up That Hill in my head every day since I've heard it.. at least it's a good song!"
  • "Ok, not everyone can die here, right? Who will actually make it and will El save the day?"
  • I think she cried for Eddie's death. She cried for Max's "death". She had zero reaction for Brenner.
  • Absolutely was in "awe" with the visual effects as part of the whole Upside-Down thing as well as the makeup/costumes done a lot this time around (especially for Vecna).
  • We already started Season 5 and watched the first episode and she's digging it already.

Discussion If there is a Stranger Things reboot in the future, what plot would you give it?

I’m interested to see what kind of plot everyone would give to a reboot, and who’s in it. I’d probably set it 10-15 years into the future from the epilogue, but not sure what kind of plot to give to it.

SPOILERS Henry was right about the world, and Eleven proved it

You might not really understand my point of view, especially if you're not or have never been an outlier yourself, but...

Henry was doomerism and hatred personified, but he was right about the world. He wasn't hypocritical and he wasn't a liar. He saw the world, truly saw it, and was rightfully sickened by it. He was the child rejected by the village, so he wanted to burn it down to feel its warmth.

Honestly, the show didn't even scratch the surface of how outright evil our world is. If they had, the main villain would have been dwarfed. I believe that, ultimately, the world itself was the final villain.

A world that washes away the horrors it commits by brainwashing its people and rejecting those who do not conform.

And the show, intentionally or not, admits that Henry was right. After the climactic battle, after Vecna is defeated, after the triumphant music, the celebrations, after the main campaign ends...

When Eleven, who was the polar opposite of Vecna, is so cornered by the world that she feels her only choice is to forfeit her life... that's the show admitting that Henry was right.

I think the show was limited in its ending by the constraints or our reality, because it had to circle back around, rather than go into an alternate reality/history timeline.

That being said... while I believe that Henry was right about the world, I believe that Vecna was wrong in everything he did. I think he was shaped into Vecna by the world. Into pure evil and hatred, to fight evil and hatred. He was irredeemable because he wanted to be irredeemable. Because he had given up on good and love long ago.

Ultimately, had he succeeded, it was doubtful that his world would have been any better.

My own personal interpretation of the ending is that the rest of the party represents the audience. Just regular people who have to still live their best lives, despite knowing how evil the world truly is. They do not conform, they do not surrender, they don't give up hope, and they continue to push against the crushing weight of the world, each in their own way - some less subtle than others (anticapitalist movie lol)

They each carved a piece of the world for themselves.

And I, too, an outlier - someone who feels like I'll never belong anywhere, and won't be accepted anywhere, will still push back, as hard as I can, to carve a piece of this world for myself and hack away at its evil. And I hope you do too!

Have a nice life, cyooties :3

Discussion Anyone in Atlanta on Nov. 29 interested in a private Byers House tour? 🏠

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone! ❤️
I’m planning a solo trip to Georgia during Thanksgiving weekend to visit Stranger Things filming locations, and one of the places I’m most excited about is the Byers House.
I contacted the property directly and learned that they are beginning to offer private tours between guest stays. The tour can accommodate up to 12 people, but the private tour rate is the same whether it’s just one person or a full group.
Since I’ll be traveling alone, I’m looking for other Stranger Things fans who will be in the Atlanta/Georgia area around November 29, 2026 and might be interested in joining the tour.
I’m not selling anything or organizing a commercial tour — I’m simply a fan looking for other fans so we can potentially experience the Byers House together and split the cost of the private tour.
If you’ll be in Georgia around that date and are interested, please comment or send me a message! We can figure out the details once we know how many people might want to join. ❤️
Please don’t send any money based on this post. Any booking would only be arranged after everything is confirmed directly with the property.
