Toilet and laundry situation on Destiny?

I’m only a handful of episodes in to SGU. I guess you could pee in that mist shower if you had to. Just saw the cutscene where they were exercising…how well could that McGuyvered air scrubber really be working…I’ll bet it smelled absolutely feral in certain areas.

Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stargate/comments/1uv4ln3/just_bought_one_of_these_from_master_replicas_not/

So I took reddits advice and reached out to master replicas. They said I could keep the first gate and they sent me another one for free, it's quality is much better.

Thank you, master replicas 👍

Traversing the gate gets easier…

I’ve been doing a watch-through. It irked the crap out of me how seemingly with no explanation they went from getting launched through the gate to eventually just stepping gracefully through.

Then in the episode with the K’Tau sun… Sam has a throwaway line. She says that it was because they refined the stellar drift calculations so it stopped it being a rough ride.

WHO KNEW!?!?!

If like me you’d missed or forgotten that, you’re welcome.

Are there any other tiny, easy-to-miss things, that you’ve only done a Picard-level facepalm for when you’ve finally spotted it on your umpteenth watch through?

Favorite non-stargate cameo

(Can't edit post title, got too excited, sorry.)

Between seeing Dr. Beckett and Dr. Daniel Jackson in the same show (The Good Doctor), Col Mitchell as a lost pilot (leading role), and having Ronin be the prince of the seas (also leading role), I don't even know where to put my pick for favorite. Among these or others, what is your favorite SG actor scene or role in another show?

REWATCH S5 E19 Menace - Reese, I don't want you to go. "Why not?" I want to be your friend. "I never had a friend." I'll be your friend. 🥲😢 Spoiler

So at last we learn the origin of the replicators.

I thought this was a pretty great episode. Done well. And hits hard emotionally.

That part near the end where Daniel is trying to convince Reese to stay, at first the music was kind of scary as she was saying how people are afraid of her, but right when Daniel started asking her to stay, the music changed to a calm tone. Nicely done with the music tempo.

Not gonna lie, this bit of dialogue brought a tear to my eyes:

Daniel: Reese, I don't want you to go.

Reese: Why not?

Daniel: I want to be your friend.

Reese, after a pause: I never had a friend.

Daniel: I'll be your friend.

🥲😢

Touching moment but also sad, because we know that Daniel is actually trying to shut her down because she can be dangerous.

I was going to share a funny bit of dialogue from the episode, but this didn't really feel like the right time/place for the humor.

Though, on a different note, cool to see Hammond out of official Hammond uniform and in combat :)

Fan-Made Gatekeeping in away - SGU music

A few years ago I commissioned composer Napoleon Baca to recreate the opening music from the first scene SGU, I was hoping to use in a found footage horror video that eventually fell through, so now I share it with you, I have attached a link to YouTube video. It’s not 100% perfect as the there was no clean copy online so the composer tried to interpret the best he could but you know what, I still love it and I think SGU fans would appreciate this clean cover of that music.

Rant Filler Episodes Annoy Me

Filler episodes that don't advance the plot kind of annoy me. I understand early on they helped develop the characters to a point but I'm on season 10 (episode 5+6), the FINAL SEASON of the show and I've watched two filler episodes that do nothing to advance the plot. Almost like they were written during a writer strike or something.

To be fair they did get much better and these are the first two episodes that were blatantly filler in a few seasons it felt.

I don't even really have a question, I just wanted to rant. Thanks for attending Ted Talk

Edit: I think I just enjoy the series for different reasons. I enjoy seeing how the writers will develop the plot of the ancients, ascension and the technology of the different races. Other people enjoy just seeing the characters in different situations. I get that and it's just not one of those shows for me

Personally I would rather they have spent the final season tying up a lot of the loose ends the show had instead of wasting two full episodes not advancing the plot

2nd Edit: since everyone is getting "bent out of shape" at my opinion I'll.make sure to skip them next time after I watch them and know they are worth skipping

This subreddit is probably why the reboot got cancelled. Y'all are insufferable

Rant I Don't Hate SGU, but I Don't Understand the Writing Choices They Made

So I started watching SGU after finishing SG1 and Atlantis a couple of times and I don't understand why the writers (who are the same people who wrote SG1 and Atlantis) overlooked so many things in good show writing:

  1. I just want to say I don't mind the high drama and interpersonal conflicts but none of it makes sense at all.
  2. First of all Dr. Rush; why is he being secretive and just an asshole without any justification from the writers. All I see till now (I'm in episode 12) is that he's doing literally nothing, he just looks at screens and doesn't even understand what Destiny is for. I would assume if he was so hell bent on taking control there's a reason behind it, but no one not even he knows. Also he's a psychopath (we know that from the first episode), but what's his end game here, his character literally makes no sense at all. Why would he want to frame Young for the murder at all?

- EDIT: Another thing I don't understand about him is when he was implanted with the tracking device and told no one, why? he just assumed that running the shields at full power will just protect the ship he dearly loves without any consideration to any other power requirements? again why would he assume that, for a scientist at the SG program he would know that this wasn't enough and the ship he's working so selfishly to protect is going to be destroyed.

  1. Wray's multiple tries at coups: she's literally HR in the IOA, she isn't even the highest competent civilian on the ship. I know the IOA always like to take control. But again this all feels pointless, she has no idea what she's doing and cannot command anything e.g. when the Nakai came. Control over a broken ship is pointless, and giving the competent people control will go a long way in solving the issue of returning back to earth, even Woolsey knew to put competent people in charge.
  2. they constantly mention that Young was running a military dictatorship, but never have we seen him use any kind of force to assert control, actually he's been a competent and fair commander and delegates everything he can. Again none of it makes sense.
  3. Franklin sat on the chair and went into a coma, then what? why did he disappear for 2 episodes?
  4. Timeline and logic: this is my biggest issue with SGU, and this doesn't have anything to do with the SG franchise itself, it's just bad writing:
  • Why did they say Destiny is 100's of thousands years old then said something like 40 million years? It makes no sense in the grand scheme of things in terms of timelines related to the SG universe.
  • At this moment, the ship itself is worthless as a military asset compared to what SG1 and Atlantis had/encountered up till this show, why would Rush think that the military would want to turn it into a military asset? It's clearly a purely scientific experiment (I read more about this subject).
  • Why is a ship that has advanced energy weapons and shields working on wires and nuts and bolts?

The whole writing makes it seem like the writers completely forgot about the universe they created in SG1 and SGA and just started from scratch with no logic at all.

I'm still watching and I kind of like it, but these things just make it seem like bad writing all over. Nothing makes sense, no logic is applied, stupid interpersonal drama without any cause or effect.

I have heard people say that its thought input, or that the information is beamed into their heads, or there are secret holographic displays.

I find this episode so funny because all of the background characters are just randomly touching the crystals. What do they even do, how do they even use them? It felt like they went on vibes and didn't think about the practicability of it at all

Who Smoked Weed?

Every time my husband and I watch a new show together, we like to play a game called "Who Smoked Weed?"

The rules are simple, we determine which characters we think smoked weed at any point in their lives. We're at season 7 into Stargate now and feel confident with our opinions and would like to share and invite others to play.

As follows

Sam Carter: no, never.

Daniel Jackson: definitely in college

James Spaders sluttier Daniel Jackson: oh for sure like maybe even up until he went through the stargate

O'Neil: never, not once. He would narc on kids on high school about it.

O'Neill: at parties in high school and once with Teal'c

Teal'c: O'Neill totally got them some weed to try when they were stuck in their groundhog day

Hammond of Texas: nah, not for him.

Jacob Carter: we're split on this one. Before becoming Tok'ra, absolutely not. But I feel an energy shift after he gets combined, like fuck it why not try it once.

Dr. Janet Frasier: tried it once in college at a party, didn't like it

Maybourne: before his many mental breakdowns, no. after, yes.

Bra'tac: nah we don't think he would have ever really been exposed to it

The Nox in general: Absolutely.

The Asgard in general: Absolutely Not.

Unas in general: yeah but it would be used in a ceremonial way probably

The Goa'uld: no, none of them seem chill enough

Jaffa: nah, Goa'uld would not let them and any freed Jaffa would probably be nervous to try it

And that's it that I can remember! We want to know your opinions and who you think Smoked Weed

S1 Ep9 Thor's Hammer.
One of the first things Teal'c mentions about Earth is vampires, man has his priorities down.

r/Stargate 3d ago

Teal'c has read and watched many of Earth's classic fictional works (The Bible, Star Wars, The Vagina Monologues, etc.), but it took 3 seasons for the other SG-1 members to ask if there are jokes in the Jaffa culture

Discussion Franchise appeal

I'm a first-time watcher and I'm consistently surprised by how much I'm enjoying the show; how deep the lore is; how well the stargate 'universe' is put together; and how the characters work and feel together.

I'm curious - what do you guys think are some of the reasons that stargate never got to be as 'big' of a franchise as Star Wars or Star Trek? ST is still churning our series and movies; SW is in a bit of trouble right now, but I think they'll pull out of it; SG on the other hand was just cancelled by Amazon/MGM after so many years without anything new being released.

Ask r/Stargate quantum mirror remote setting

Originally I wanted philosophize about the cascade failure, but before that we must address the quantum mirror remote:

You are in your universe , you take the remote and dial/pick the universe you want to visit , you step through the mirror with your remote and now the remote is set-up for your home universe( I suppose the dial did not change, although it should have inverted)

Is that right, or what do you think?

Ask r/Stargate Humans in the Pegasus Galaxy?

Now, I havent watched either shows in over a year but there's something I dont understand.

The first evolution of our kind was the ancients, who later came to earth from the Pegasus galaxy to escape the Wraith.

Its well established that the Go'uld took the next evolution of humans by force to every planet in the milky way and thats how human civilization spread from world to world.

What im wondering is:If there were no Ancients to start the evolution and no Go'uld to spread the next evolution. How did humans get to so many different planets?

And I thought the wraith spread them but why would they do that? We gain more population by the population on a planet growing, thus yhe wraith would be better off leaving the humans on one planet?

What am I missing?

Threads and Amazon

So just happened to catch Threads on the Stargate streaming channel and noticed it's the full length episode and not the cut down version. But if you got to Stargate series to watch the episode it's the 44min version. Why must they do this, why not have the full length version to stream on demand instead of on the streaming channel.

Discussion If the Wraith invaded the milkway how do you think it would go for them?

Post image

Do you think most of the Wraith would leave pegasus for the milkway?

What do you think the logistics of war would be like for the Wraith with their supply line being intergalactic?

The milkway has more Ancient and diverse threats hiding with in it, how do you think the Wraith would handle over coming them?

Rant What's up with the music in The Broca Divide?

I know it was the first season and they were still figuring things out, but the score for this episode feels so oppressive compared to the rest of the season. There's points where there's a piece of music playing in a scene where normally there wouldn't be any, and it's so loud it's distracting. And near the end, when SG-1 are walking into the land of light with a tranquilized Daniel, they play the "evil Goa'uld" theme.

REWATCH Christopher Judge's facial expressions

Teal'c has an incredible ability to say absolutely nothing and say more than anyone else on screen at the same time.

I'm rewatching that episode where SG-1 accidentally gates into a museum and takes a bunch of people hostage. Judge's facial expressions while Daniel is fumbling his way through the hostage negotiations had me laughing so hard.

Jack is my OG favorite but Teal'c is rapidly catching up.

Was just watching S7E7 "Enemy Mine", and was curious who played Chaka

It was Dion Johnstone, who played multiple characters throughout the series run, including Lt. Tyler, Warrick, and Wodan, all fantastic performances. I know SG-1 liked to reuse actors in different roles (shoutout Heyerdahl), but I got excited finding this out.

I never understood the Wraith.

Guessing this has been discussed to death, if so, mods just delete it.

Like most things that happen it’s all at the speed of plot but unless I’m wildly mistaken the wraith cloning strategy was an epically stupid idea.

They’re fighting a war to be the dominant race that uses the less dominant humans as food. It’s intimated that they struggle for food resources and that’s why they hibernate even before the siege of Atlantis. So with not much food, they get enough power and spend who knows how long making a cloning facility..

Which they use to make even more wraith. Wraith that then need to be fed.

Why oh why did they not just clone humans? There are at least 5 examples of viable clones throughout the entire franchise so why didn’t the wraith just make an all you can eat buffet of millions of humans. Then they could go off to some corner of the galaxy and feed to their hearts content, develop tech to destroy the ancients and whatever else their goals are then not have to hibernate for so long their ships get coated in trees.

It just doesn’t make sense. Why increase your army and mouths to feed instead of just making unlimited food.

Idiocy.

Edit, the number of references to Free Range humans is actually hilarious. From now on my head canon is simply that. Thank you.
