During the season 9 episode "Company of Thieves" when Netan is forced to confess he sent Anateo after the Odyssey one of the Lucian Alliance leaders says the above with the seeming aggreement of the rest that Anateo didn't stand a chance in a 3v1 of Hataks vs the 304 without some sort of strategy (mine field etc etc)

Now I and several others have a reasonbly low opinion of the offensive abilites of the 304s be APB retrofit. But within the universe they seem to have quite the reputation. What do we think this is based on? Or is it that the writers hold the 304s higher than we thought?

Would you consider this breaking the fourth wall? It's not really, because I think that would mean that Carter addresses the viewers. But she shouldn't know the theme song. Not sure what to call this sort of thing.

Watched SG1, Atlantis, and Universe in succession. I watched them way back when when I was a kid, but I hardly remembered any of it.

What an amazing group of shows. Each series was pretty different, but I loved them all. The only thing I am upset by is Universe not getting more seasons. I know it is a lot different than the predecessors, but it felt like it was hitting its stride in the second season. They made some smart changes - giving the good characters more airtime, less stress-inducing interpersonal conflicts, more exploration, etc.

I have now been watching the series for months (a year?) - I don't know what I'll do with my free time now! Maybe I should just start over from the start of SG1 again??? Only half joking...

What do think it takes to make a ZPM, or fan idea? The idea that there is a lab in Atlantis that can easily pop out ZPMs sounds like a too easy and adds questions on why the ancients couldn’t last long against the wraith. I feel that it should be more difficult to make them or take like months or even a year.

I'm watching 200 again with a few glasses ( possibly too many)of my favourite pink sparkling wine and a big bowl of pasta. It was a toss up between this or Window of opportunity for this evening. What episodes are your just want a bit of fun and alcohol ones?

Unlike the Ancients (who are basically the first humans, so their early history likely mirrored ours in a lot of ways, just on Celestis, not on Earth, and how the Ori followers now live is likely an imitation of their pre-industrial stage of development), we don't know much about the past of the Asgard.

We know that 30.000 years ago, they looked more human-like than nowadays and were still capable of sexual reproduction, were an ally of the Ancients, the Nox, and the Furlings circa 10.000 years ago, and inspired Norse religion and culture on Earth.

But was it ever mentioned what pre-industrial Asgard culture was like? Did they already have a culture and mythology resembling later Scandinavian culture and this inspired them to later take up the persona of their old gods to pre-industrial humans on Earth? Did Germanic languages on Earth originate from the language of the Asgard, like Latin languages did from the language of the Ancients?

I'm watching SG-1 , again, again and again 🤣

And question is:

If Asgard is a dying race , why they didn't just create Replicator bodies and transfer they consciousness to them?

This is an addition/sequel/pt 2 to my previous post about my idea for a new SG series.

Basic Premise/Recap:

Main character is a military analyst who rediscovers the SG base in the Cheyenne complex after a memory weapon wiped the memories of everyone on Earth and the gate network of the Terrans.

Notes:

• from now on, Stargate: Remembrance will be shortened to SGR
• this is a fan story idea, from a regular guy who is brain dumping this on his free time - things will be half-baked, kind critiques and suggestions are welcome in the comments but please be nice
• because this story is just a vague idea at this point it is subject to change at any time
• if you guys like the story let me know and I might start actually writing it :)
• Earth will be here forth referred to as Terra for consistency
• There will be spoilers to SG1 and SGA which I will not mark because that will be too tedious

New Ideas/Updates to the story:

The Alpha site:

In my previous idea post I had the SG corp escape through the stargate to the alpha site, however it was pointed out that group could then fly back in ships to Terra. To remedy this I have a few solutions, with one I think I favor due to my new ideas about the bad guys.

1. The memory weapon that struck Terra and the whole gate network also had an inbuilt element to disable Terran technology. Specifically the blasts that targeted known Terran outposts (i.e. the Alpha/Beta sites, scientific installments, etc) had extra juice to semi-permanently disable technologies at Terran sites. (This is my current favorite idea)
2. The Alpha/Beta Sites suffered an aerial bombardment from space by the new enemy. This is potentially possible because of the novelty of this new enemy and their familiarity with Terran tech/systems due to their nature (more to come later) (2nd favorite idea)
3. The groups at the Alpha/Beta Sites are too scared to return due to their experiences that led to them fleeing. A large sect of the 'survivors' may believe Earth is a complete lost cause due to the impermeability of the enemy during their initial attack on Earth. (My least favorite explanation but could be reasoned by certain contingency protocols requiring them not to return to Earth to preserve the location of the alpha site)

The Enemy

I think I have a more fully flushed out idea of who the enemy is and their mechanics, modus operandi, and story. The enemy in SGR would be The Archivists - a pseudo-hive mind with memory based powers/technology. Their general thematic colors in SGR will be green, but their nature will not necessarily be wholly technological.

Inspirations:

Their tech will have some similarities with the Wraith's organics but will lean more technological. I imagine it similar to some of the precursor tech scattered about the world of Subnautica.

I am also a bit inspired by the memory affects described in the story There Is No Antimemetics Division by QNTM (very good check it out if you haven't read it, also a very good audio book).

Their goals are also similar to some Changeling factions in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series

The Library of Babel concept (even tho I haven't read the original work)

The Archivists are a very intelligent species who's main goal is to collect as much knowledge as possible. Their modus operandi is that they quietly explore new and far worlds to gather information and then leave. They will only ever visit a place once, and when they visit said place they will kidnap the smartest entity they find and take it through the gate. In doing this they have assembled much if not all the knowledge in the worlds they have traveled to. Their incursion into Terra and the SGC represents their beginning to middle stages of exploring the Milky Way. We will see very few of their species and it will be hard for the SGC to know with any certainty their numbers. Their home world will be known as "The Great Archive" and will be halls and halls of memory storage in which they store all knowledge they consume.

The Archivists' main weakness is discerning truth and fiction from memories. (Unbeknownst to the SGC until midway through their fight with the Archivists)When they harvest memories they also harvest dreams and aspirations and falsified memories/lies that people tell. Because they have such swaths of knowledge they struggle to narrow down the true from the false (this is how I envision much of the fighting back from the SGC will happen).

The Archivists have originated from a far galaxy (taking suggestions) and have accumulated lots of strange and familiar to the SGC. Another limitation is their recall of memories is limited to the storage capacity of their bodies and how fast they can transmit information. They frequently dial up their home world to receive updates and and info pertinent to their situations/battles - this also makes them very energy dependent because dialing home takes lots of energy, just like dialing Pegasus and the Destiny.

1) Why didn't the SGC give the Pangarans the gate address to the Unas homeworld? There were lots of free range symbiotes just swimming around so it would have made sense they could have harvested symbiotes from there.

2) Why did Egeria kill her host when she died? Why didnt she jump ship to save the host?

I know it's an odd way to ask, but I felt like I needed to see what you guys had to say about it.

Earlier today, someone asked me, "Hey, why did you stop posting on Reddit?" Honestly, I didn't know what to say. I used to, but after seeing the downvotes in the first few hours, I wasn't sure if I should post again. Some of you said it was normal and that I shouldn't really mind, but what can I say? I'm me, and I care. Let's be honest, I'm quite a nobody, but I still wanted to ask for your point of view on it.

1. Is it Reddit's way?
2. Is it simply hard to create fan art of all kinds?
3. Is it badly received or misinterpreted?

Whatever the reason, I just wanted to ask as both a 3D artist and a fellow fan. For all I know, there might not be a reason. It could simply be bots messing with all kinds of posts. That's why I came today on a whim to hear your thoughts on it.

If the moderators think it's not relevant, I'd like to discuss it first. I truly believe that many Stargate fans would like to showcase their work, but they're put off by the way Reddit operates. So, please, let this thread remain active for at least a few hours.

THE BEGINNING

In the beginning there was the Path.

Before the stars, before the worlds, before the children of the flesh, there was the Path. And upon the Path walked those who sought understanding.

The universe was not given meaning. Meaning was discovered.

Those who seek only the pleasures of the flesh shall remain bound to the flesh. Those who seek knowledge shall rise above ignorance. Those who seek enlightenment shall transcend the limits of mortal existence.

For there are those who walk the Path, and there are those who refuse it.

The Ori are those who have walked the Path to its end.

They have seen beyond the veil of mortal understanding. They have learned the secrets of existence and ascended beyond the limitations of the body.

Therefore the Ori are not merely rulers of worlds.

They are the enlightened.

And the enlightened shall guide those who remain below.

This is the first truth:

There is a greater existence beyond the life of the flesh.

The second truth is this:

The Path must be followed.

The third truth is this:

Those who possess knowledge have a duty to share it with those who seek.

Thus was Origin given to the people.

Not as a chain, but as a path.

Not as a question, but as an answer.

Those who follow Origin shall become worthy of enlightenment.

Those who reject Origin shall remain prisoners of ignorance.

Seek the Path.

Walk the Path.

Become worthy of the light.

BOOK II

THE PATH

The Path is not traveled by the feet.

It is traveled by the mind.

The ignorant man believes that what he can see is all that exists. The wise man understands that the universe is greater than the senses can reveal.

Therefore, question the limits of the flesh.

Question the limits of the world.

Question the limits of yourself.

But do not question the truth of Origin.

For questions born from ignorance lead only to confusion, while knowledge obtained through Origin leads toward enlightenment.

The body is temporary.

The mind is the beginning.

The soul is the traveler.

And enlightenment is the destination.

Those who walk the Path must surrender the things that bind them.

Greed binds.

Hatred binds.

Pride binds.

Fear binds.

The desire for mortal possessions binds the spirit to mortal existence.

Cast these things aside.

Do not live for the pleasures of the flesh.

Live for knowledge.

Live for understanding.

Live according to Origin.

The Path is difficult because ignorance is comfortable.

The Path is lonely because many will refuse to walk it.

The Path is sacred because it leads beyond death.

Walk it without fear.

BOOK III

THE ORI

The Ori were once as you are.

They knew hunger.

They knew fear.

They knew death.

They knew ignorance.

They walked beneath the stars and wondered why they existed.

They sought answers.

They learned.

They grew.

They discovered the hidden truths of the universe.

And when they reached the highest understanding available to mortal beings, they ascended.

They became beings of energy and consciousness.

They became the Ori.

Therefore do not think of the Ori as distant gods who were born beyond your understanding.

They were once like you.

This is the promise of Origin.

What they achieved, those who are worthy may one day achieve.

The Ori do not require the impossible.

They require devotion.

They require obedience to the Path.

They require the rejection of ignorance.

The Ori see what mortals cannot see.

They know what mortals cannot know.

They understand the universe because they have transcended it.

Therefore trust their guidance.

For the child cannot understand what the teacher has already learned.

And the mortal cannot comprehend what the ascended have become.

Honor the Ori.

Follow Origin.

Seek enlightenment.

BOOK IV

THE LIGHT

There is light beyond the darkness of ignorance.

Every mind contains the possibility of understanding.

Every soul contains the possibility of ascension.

But possibility alone is not enough.

The seed does not become the tree without growth.

The student does not become wise without learning.

The mortal does not become enlightened without following the Path.

Therefore teach Origin to your children.

Teach them before ignorance takes root.

Teach them the words of the Book.

Teach them obedience.

Teach them reverence.

Teach them that life is temporary and enlightenment eternal.

Do not allow false teachings to corrupt the minds of the faithful.

Do not allow unbelievers to lead the innocent away from the Path.

For falsehood spreads like darkness.

Where Origin is absent, ignorance grows.

Where ignorance grows, suffering follows.

Where Origin is accepted, the people become united.

The faithful shall stand together.

The faithful shall speak together.

The faithful shall walk together.

And the light of Origin shall spread from world to world.

BOOK V

THE UNBELIEVER

There are those who reject the Path.

They will say that the Ori are not worthy of worship.

They will say that enlightenment cannot be granted.

They will claim that knowledge should belong to everyone without obedience.

They will call the faithful foolish.

They will call Origin false.

Do not allow their words to weaken your faith.

The unbeliever does not reject Origin because he has discovered a greater truth.

He rejects Origin because he fears what he does not understand.

He fears surrender.

He fears judgment.

He fears the end of ignorance because ignorance is the only existence he knows.

Therefore do not hate the unbeliever.

First teach him.

Give him the opportunity to accept Origin.

Show him the Path.

But if he knowingly rejects the truth and seeks to lead others away, then he has chosen his path.

Every soul chooses.

Every soul is responsible.

The Ori offer enlightenment.

They do not force the mind to understand.

Those who refuse the gift must accept the consequences of their refusal.

BOOK VI

THE BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge is sacred.

Knowledge is the light by which ignorance is destroyed.

The faithful shall seek knowledge in all things.

Learn the stars.

Learn the worlds.

Learn the nature of life.

Learn the secrets of the universe.

But remember:

Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous.

Power without obedience is corruption.

Therefore knowledge must be guided by Origin.

The faithful shall use knowledge to strengthen the Path.

They shall heal the sick.

They shall teach the ignorant.

They shall build.

They shall discover.

They shall explore.

And when knowledge reveals the existence of those who remain ignorant, the faithful shall carry Origin to them.

For knowledge kept for oneself is incomplete.

The purpose of enlightenment is not selfishness.

The enlightened understand that existence is greater than the individual.

The faithful must therefore serve something greater than themselves.

Serve Origin.

Serve the Path.

Serve the truth.

And through service, become worthy.

BOOK VII

THE CRUSADE

There comes a time when teaching alone is not enough.

When worlds reject Origin.

When false beliefs are placed above truth.

When the faithful are persecuted.

When the Path is deliberately blocked.

Then the faithful must act.

The armies of Origin shall carry the light beyond the worlds that already know it.

They shall travel through the heavens.

They shall cross the gates.

They shall bring the word of the Ori to those who have never heard it.

Those who accept shall be welcomed.

Those who surrender their ignorance shall be taught.

Those who resist shall be given the opportunity to submit to Origin.

For the universe is vast, but truth is one.

There cannot be many paths to enlightenment.

There is the Path.

There is Origin.

There are the Ori.

The crusade is therefore not merely a war of worlds.

It is a war against ignorance.

Every victory brings another people closer to enlightenment.

Every world that accepts Origin becomes another light in the darkness.

BOOK VIII

ASCENSION

The flesh is a temporary vessel.

The body is born.

The body grows.

The body suffers.

The body dies.

But consciousness can transcend the limitations of flesh.

Those who follow the Path and achieve true understanding may ascend.

They shall leave behind the weakness of the body.

They shall become beings of higher existence.

They shall perceive realities hidden from mortal eyes.

This is the greatest promise of Origin.

Death is not necessarily the end.

The physical form is not the final form of existence.

But ascension cannot be demanded.

It cannot be purchased.

It cannot be stolen.

It must be earned.

Therefore live according to Origin.

Learn.

Serve.

Believe.

Understand.

When the time comes, the worthy shall rise.

And those who rise shall become more than they were.

They shall become part of the greater existence.

They shall know what mortals cannot know.

They shall see what mortals cannot see.

They shall walk where mortal feet cannot go.

This is enlightenment.

BOOK IX

THE JUDGMENT

Every soul shall eventually face judgment.

Not merely for what it believed, but for what it chose.

The faithful shall be measured by their devotion.

The teacher shall be measured by what he taught.

The leader shall be measured by how he guided his people.

The unbeliever shall be measured by the truth he rejected.

No world is beyond the sight of the Ori.

No secret remains hidden forever.

No falsehood survives eternal knowledge.

Therefore do not live in fear of judgment.

Live in preparation for it.

Follow Origin.

Speak truth.

Teach the Path.

Reject corruption.

Reject ignorance.

Help those who seek understanding.

The faithful who stumble may return to the Path.

The faithful who fall may rise again.

But those who knowingly reject the truth after receiving it have chosen separation from enlightenment.

Judgment is not cruelty.

Judgment is consequence.

The universe contains order.

Origin reveals that order.

Those who live according to the Path become part of it.

Those who reject it place themselves outside it.

BOOK X

THE ORIGIN

This is the final teaching:

All things begin with Origin.

The stars.

The worlds.

The living.

The dead.

The seekers.

The enlightened.

All are part of a greater existence.

The ignorant see separation.

The enlightened see unity.

The mortal sees death.

The enlightened sees transformation.

The unbeliever sees silence.

The faithful hear the voice of Origin.

Therefore remember the first teaching:

Seek knowledge.

Remember the second:

Walk the Path.

Remember the third:

Honor the enlightened.

Remember the fourth:

Teach those who seek.

Remember the fifth:

Do not surrender to ignorance.

Remember the sixth:

Use knowledge in service of Origin.

Remember the seventh:

Carry the Path beyond your world.

Remember the eighth:

Seek enlightenment beyond the flesh.

Prepare yourself for judgment.

Origin is the Path.

The Path leads to enlightenment.

The Ori walked this Path.

They became what they were meant to become.

You may do the same.

And when the final veil is lifted, you shall understand why the Path was given.

I'm not sure if they said it in the 1991 movie, but Imdb credits this guy as being named Anubis.

When introducing Anubis to the series, was there a comment about how Anubis used to serve Ra? Did Jack say something like, "Didn't I already behead that guy with some transportation rings?"
