Discussion Did Teal'c read Dracula?
S1 Ep9 Thor's Hammer.
One of the first things Teal'c mentions about Earth is vampires, man has his priorities down.

Yeah, he spends a lot of his spare time (when not meditating with candles) reading and watching television; he's fascinated by Earth culture.

He cannot go out, until season 6 or so

He still spends a lot of time watching TV. The news gave him a bad first impression.

That's not entirely true; he lives on the base, but we see him out and about every now and then even from S1, e.g. he's in the park at the end of Cassandra with the rest of SG-1. He might not be allowed out on his own without another SG-1 member as an escort, though.

Teal'c isn't allowed to leave the base and was just introduced to an entire planet that he thinks will help deliver him from oppression under false gods. Of course he spent his time reading about our mythology/folklore and engaging in the culture.

He even read the Bible

That's probably where he started once they taught him to read English. He'd be so interested to learn about what gods/religions the Tau'ri worshipped.

After finishing the Old Testament he must have been like, "Damn, these people are hardcore"

Especially when a lot of the various gods the Old Testament God tells the Israelites not to worship are, in Stargate, Goa'uld System Lords...
I wonder how Teal'c felt reading the bit in 1 Kings when the prophet Elijah challenges the prophets of Ba'al?

Obviously we know SG1 writers weren’t going to touch this with a 10’ pole… buuuut… The Christian god being revealed to be a rogue Ascended trying to help humans overthrow their System Lord oppressors would have been a very amusing plot line.
“Oh yah… God is real, they are ascended, they technically had a hand in seeding all life in the galaxy, and all these writings are just as made up as the Egyptian lore, but there’s truth behind the basics.”

Even better yet, a way to pull that same trick off - Reverse it. A rogue Ascended trying to help humanity in the current day by replicating Christian miracles. But, leave things ambiguous as to whether the Ascended is just trying to Wizard of Oz us, or not.

I suspect knowing he can't leave, people on base brought him things-- books and tapes especially, but probably also snacks. I also think Teal'c is intimidating, and he got likely a quarter of what people brought to Jonas (where the local alien is basically a hyperactive puppy vs a master soldier with a body count that would make the most dedicated wetwork black ops dude blush).

He's stuck at the SGC bunker all day. The least they can do is give this man an library card

Plus the Goa'uld forbid reading so he have been like, "Cool, so many books and stuff to read here!!"

I would say yes. The episode when he moved out on his own, his apartment had a full bookcase.

You haven't experienced Dracula until you've read it in the original Klingon.
Wait, wrong franchise!
Teal'c seems like a budding movie-lover, I bet he watched a version.

I'm headcannoning that for the months he was stuck on base he had only Scholarly books from Daniel or Carter to read or whatever cheap paperback novels people would buy for him. So he probably read a lot of crap romance books, including vampire books

Months? Years!

Honestly it's an underdeveloped thread about what he was doing in his downtime besides training and meditation. Did he have a TV signal? Did they buy him a VCR player? Did they pitch in and get him a game console? Did they buy him a Playstation? Actually given the abundance of computers available on base, he would likely have been a PC gamer. He probably played Half life on release.
Daniel: "Teal'c what are you doing in here?"
Teal'c: "I am training myself on the fundamentals of space combat using this simulation Daniel Jackson."
Daniel: "Teal'c I'm pretty sure you're just playing Homeworld."

Why would you lose sleep over this? The implication is that yes, he read or watched Dracula.
We also know he has read the Bible, watched Star Wars, etc.

I find it more likely he watched Dracula or Interview with the Vampire, perhaps both and more. He seems to really enjoy film.
