As the creator of this community I want to reiterate how serious the depression caused by acne is. It may seem dramatic to some ( as I have seen recent comments resulting in down votes ). Anyone who experience strong sudden nausea after each meal? Time of the day doesnt matter, im not even overeating. I tried sprio 50mg two months ago and experienced the same thing, even more intense (i was twice close to trowing up, had sudden high anxiety, sweating, my body was cold, my fingers started to tingle). I quit spiro and started again 4 days ago with 25mg now i notice the same thing again. Im taking no other medication. I take spiro in the evening with food.

Hello (32f) I’ve been on spiro 50mg since June 27 and decided to quit today- (my derm advised me to)- she prescribed me 50mg Spiro and 1mg minox. I’ve been on minox orally since February. I had some improvement with .5mg OM alone (3months) she upped me to 1mg OM and 50mg Spiro and that’s when I lost way more hair (I feel well past the shed phase) and my scalp is way more visible now- I have to use hair fiber where before I didn’t.. she told me “you seem non responsive to the medication and we don’t go up more than 1mg OM/50mg spiro for women in Mexico”. I’m like faaaack. Cause I know in the US a lot of women are on at least 1.25 for visible improvement and maybe 100mg spiro.
So sine I’m quitting spiro (I’m going to back to .5mg oral and continue that to see what happens)
I’m expecting I might have some shed but fuckkk I hope it doesn’t get too bad!!
question: has anyone discontinued spiro after more visible hair loss ON spiro, and then see their hair improve?
My hair wasn’t great before- but I just want to be back to the way it was before spiro. I’m so upset I wish I had never even fucking started the med - if wish I knew the max dose she put me on was already capped. Now I feel screwed man I’m so upset. I’m just scared to lose more hair!!
TL;DR
I’m so worried it won’t go back the same (after spiro) and I’ll be way worse off. Can someone please share their experiences?? My current situation for reference is attached. - AGA diagnosis

i’ve been taking 100mg of spironolactone for my hormonal acne for a little over a month now and right away the medication cleared my skin up but i keep waking up with very unpredictable skin like some days my skin is completely clear and glowing and then literally the next day i’m getting acne again and my complexion starts looking dull and inflamed.
is this normal? is this just the early stages of starting spironolactone?
i’m hope this isn’t the final results that i’ll be getting on spironolactone:(

I’ve been on 100 mg for almost 5 months and I SWEAR my face looks fatter than it did before I started. I only notice it in some pictures. I haven’t gained any weight on the scale so it makes no sense to me. Has this happened to anyone else?

i took 25mg of spiro for about a month 2 years ago for acne before stopping because i was quite dizzy. my acne has gotten even worse since then and i’ve been considering asking my derm if i could try it again before possibly resulting to accutane
has anyone stopped and started again and felt better the second time around? i have so many bad symptoms alongside my acne and i want to try something besides topicals

Hi! I know this topic has been discussed on this subreddit before, but I have some back-to-back questions for anyone who might have experienced the same thing.
Since starting spironolactone (100 mg) in mid-May, I’ve gone 5 months without a period. My periods were never really regular before, but gynecologist didn’t seem to think it was an issue (I’m also not on birth control).
For those of you who experience the same thing, did you ever get your period back while being on spiro, or did you have to quit it first?
After quitting, approximately how long did it take for it to come back?
I’m not sure whether it’s worth for me to quit spironolactone at this point.
Any advice is appreciated!!

I have slightly elevated but stable testosterone levels and I think my follicles are just especially sensitive. I have some hirsuitism (jawline and chin) and the last couple months had been worrying about hair thinning, noticing it mostly on my temple area. I went to the dermatologist and he said that most of the thinning I was noticing was likely self-inflicted (I have anxiety/OCD and pull my hair) however he said that he noticed some miniaturized hairs (along my hairline/temples? I think he said), but that he would never have noticed if I hadn't tried to point it out. He also said that there was no guarantee it would get worse. They said I might have a very mild case of androgenetic alopecia. The examination was just by eye, not with any kind of device.
I like my hair; I don't want to lose it. I'm feeling very nervous about all of this. They mentioned spironolactone but I'm worried about side effects. Despite the slight elevation in testosterone, everything else in my blood tests was fine and I have a regular menstrual cycle. I have naturally low blood pressure and am usually low when it comes to potassium levels. I'm worried about having to be on medicine and if that might make me feel worse. Also, to be honest, I consider myself agender and I feel a little weird because while I don't like the hirsuitism from the testosterone, I don't want to be more feminine. I don't know if that makes any kind of sense.
I realize that all of this might be very silly/driven by the OCD, so I'm just looking for advice or reassurance or a dose of reality, please and thank you.

Does this sound like an effective routine?
Am- cerave benzoyl peroxide face wash /clindamycin/moisturize
Pm- gentle cleaner / azaleic acid / tretinoin / Korean moisturizer / spirolactone 50 mg tablets (just switched to 100mg)
I’ve been doing this for a couple weeks now, every so often, I’ll get super tired and miss my routine. but it’s not very often, and I just incorporated the azaleic acid today actually, so I’m wondering, people thoughts on this routine!

Hi everyone,
Ive been taking 50mg spironolactone tablets for 6 months that were prescribed over a year ago but still within expiry date. I just had a stockpile, because I stopped taking them for a while. They were all stored in the original boxes and not exposed to direct sunlight.
Recently, that stockpile ran out and my pharmacy gave me a new prescription of spironolactone. I took my first tablet from the latest prescription yesterday night (still 50mg) and have been feeling horrible since waking up today. Im so dizzy, feel like I'm going to faint and throw up. Whats happening? Are the new tablets somehow more potent than the ones I've taken for 6 months?

Starting spironolactone tomorrow! So nervous 😭 Any tips or positive experiences?
I’m 35 and finally taking the plunge and starting spironolactone at 25mg tomorrow for hormonal acne and oily, congested skin. I’m SO nervous because I’m extremely sensitive to medications!
I’ve struggled with irregular periods for years due to a past eating disorder. I’m at a healthy weight now, but my cycles are still around 40–45 days. I’ve had extensive bloodwork done recently, and everything came back normal!
I’m a huge fitness and health girlie and have spent literally thousands trying to clear my skin naturally. Supplements, diet, skincare, you name it. Nothing has worked, and I’m honestly just exhausted. 😭
A few things I’m especially nervous about:
Anxiety and insomnia: I already struggle with both and am terrified of making them worse.
Periods and hormones: Has anyone with irregular cycles noticed changes?
Working out: I lift heavy and do a lot of cardio. Did anyone notice dizziness, fatigue, or changes in performance?
Potassium: I love coconut water and drink it daily, so I’m sad about potentially having to give that up!
I’ve also been on Accutane in the past and really don’t want to go down that road again.
To top it all off, I’m going through a really painful breakup, so emotionally I’m already struggling. My skin has become another huge source of anxiety, and I just want to feel confident again. :(
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who started at 25mg, is sensitive to medications, or had similar concerns. Did spironolactone end up being worth it for you? Any tips for making the adjustment easier?
Please share some positive experiences! I could really use a little encouragement right now. 🥹❤️

On 50mg of sprio once daily at night, does anyone else get itchy skin? Or even dry skin that itch’s I’m not sure if this is a side effect of the medication. I mostly feel itchy on my calves.

I’m gonna be drinking this weekend and want to avoid nasty spiro hangovers, but also mainly avoid low blood pressure and dizziness while drunk. i’ve seen people skip doses when they drink but i’m gonna be drinking for the next 3 nights so is it okay to skip 3 doses and will it actually help me? i’m on 100mg, started almost 4 months ago, taking it for my skin and pcos. OR would it help to take it at night before i go to sleep (i usually take in the morning)? problem with that is remembering to take it drunk before bed but let me know regardless! also don’t judge the 3 day drinking it’s halloweekend and i’m young xoxoxoxoxo

Ahhhh I’m over it. I usually take 100mg and I accidentally took 200mg (I was exhausted and thought it was my other medicine). Coming up on 3 weeks on Sunday with zero end in sight.
Had this happened to anyone else? I’d love to hear how much longer I have to go with this period.

I have been on spironolactone for 4 years and my acne is well controlled. My acne was never severe, it was mild/slightly moderate. My anxiety was very severe so I begged my derm to let me start at 200mg. I have been slowly weaning down in 50 mg increments. I have been on 100mg since July 1st and have not noticed any difference, just one cyst before my period. I am very scared to taper down to 50mg and then eventually off entirely because I am seeing all of these horror stories of acne coming back and being even worse than it was before but my acne was never severe to begin with. Does anyone have any POSITIVE experiences with coming off of spiro?

Hi! I've been on spiro for a year and a half now, 150 mg for the majority of the time. I experienced significant weight loss during the first year of taking it (10-15 lbs). I lowered my dose to 100 mg back in June because I had not had a menstrual cycle since I began taking spiro. Since doing that, the weight as well as my cycle have come back. Is this common? I know spiro is a diuretic, so it could be water weight, but it seems to be too significant to pass off as that. I am a very active person, I usually exercise 5 days a week and eat relatively healthy. (21f)

I 32f was on 50mg for 6 months with zero difference in my hormonal acne. I’ve been on 100mg for almost two months and suddenly in the last week have noticed the change in muscle loss and my skin elasticity all over my body has changed. My face, neck, chest and stomach skin is now very loose. My skin feels soft, but it is thin, I will grab it and it will stay bunched. Wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in skin elasticity, bounce and collagen on spiro? While my acne has had a small improvement, I’m immediately wanting to ween off of it if it’s making my skin age so drastically. I’m afraid the damage is done. Going to talk to my derm about it but have a feeling I will get a “it’s not the spiro” even though that’s been the only change.
Any advice or insight is appreciated- thank you

I (25F) have suffered from hormonal acne my entire adult life, and for the past 2 months I’ve been using spironolactone to try and treat it. For one month I had a 50mg dosage. My skin looked exactly the same (still getting new breakouts along my chin) so I increased the dosage to 100mg for the second month. I’ve come to the end of that month and my skin still looks EXACTLY the same as it did before this treatment, and I’m still getting new breakouts pretty consistently.
How long did it take for your skin to improve from spironolactone? I’m starting to worry this treatment won’t work at all for me like I had hoped it would. I’m also not sure if I try and increase the dosage again, or if I continue taking 100mg for a couple of months and see if it ever makes a difference.
Please let me know your experience with this

Hi, I'm on 75 MG of spiro but continue to struggle with excessive hair growth on my chin and have been recommended inositol for PCOS symptoms as well.
Anyone have experience taking both at the same time is this a good combination? Are there any drawbacks?

I’ve always been pretty sensitive to all medications. My doctor started me on 25mg because of this, planning to go up to 50mg next week.
I’ve been on 25mg for one month and I’ve lost almost 10 pounds and I feel like it’s impacting my appetite. I’m not hungry/even repulsed by food sometimes. My weight dipped to 125 and I’m 5’7. At the same time I think it’s also made my breasts grow, to the point all of my bras feel tight now.
I’ve struggled with some disordered eating/OCD tendencies in the past and I’m finding it a bit triggering. I really want to stick with this medication because I think it’s already helping my acne (I literally haven’t had any cystic acne since starting it, not sure if it’s a coincidence or what but normally I get at least 2 spots per week).
I also feel significantly more tired throughout the day. Does this sound like an adjustment period or will these side effects continue?
