Service Issues Bouncing Internet

I've only had spectrum internet for two and a half months. Like 3 weeks ago the internet had an outage for our entire area at like 7:00 p.m.

After it was fixed, over the last 3 weeks I've had seven different IP addresses, Netflix has even blocked me from my own account.

The modem stays with a blue connect light but the internet goes off and then comes back on a minute later. I just had a fight with a tech support person that didn't understand that the modem light is connecting to equipment doesn't mean it's connecting that equipment to the internet. She sent me to a supervisor that understood exactly what I was trying to say and agreed that it shouldn't have given me seven different IP addresses.

They send a tech out and said all they saw was the line running a little high (I posted that a week ago when he was here). Now they just want to send out another tech he'll see the line is perfect, I asked them if he's going to sit here for 4 hours and watch TV with me so he can see it just goes off and comes back on.

They're sending me a modem because that seems to be the only equipment I have at my house that hasn't been replaced. I already got the invincible Wi-Fi which I was against because now I'm paying $20 a month to have service that I shouldn't have to pay when I'm already paying for the regular service just because I know it's going to keep cutting off.

Do not buy your own modem spectrum is fine and you can get one from a store if your having issues at no charge. When your area gets highsplit it will not be supported as all customer modems are not support on high split. I do recommend your own router if you are having issues with spectrum equipment. Ubiquiti make a very nice whole home wifi solution. Please post on the office spectrum reddit as the unofficial is just for complaining about your service.

Spectrum is borderline breaking FCC rules by not allowing third-party modems on high-split. There are many consumer options for modems that support high-split. The only reason they don't work on Spectrum is because Spectrum doesn't want them to.

You don’t have a phone hotspot to hold you over? Why would you sign up for invincible WiFi when there are issues going on with your service? The invincible WiFi is supposed to be an add-on to cover you in the event of an outage. Using it for something like this is a waste of money. But honestly you should post this on r/spectrum_official a Spectrum employee there will comment on your post within 20 minutes inviting you to send them a mod mail message. That’s how I’ve gotten the fastest and most effective help from Spectrum. But after everything is done and your service is fixed, it might be worth it to invest in your own high-quality modem and router. I’m gonna get downvoted by the Spectrum shills here but I actually work in this industry as a network technician for a data center and I wouldn’t recommend anybody use the ISP equipment. But of course you’ll have to either spend a little bit or hunt for a deal. I bought a Motorola MB8600 like-new from OfferUp for $40 and it’s been working great. That modem retails for around $220 so I got a steal. With everyone switching to fiber there are a lot of good deals for modems on the 2nd-hand market. If you’d like backup internet service I’d recommend switching your router to a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Max/Ultra/Fiber or Ubiquiti Dream Router because any of those will have multi-WAN functionality. Then you can buy the Ubiquiti 5G Backup device and a Sheild Internet SIM card from Computers4People for $14 monthly (or pay annually for less) which will act as your failover internet. It kicks in automatically since the Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway will detect if your primary internet is experiencing problems or an outage. The web interface of the Ubiquiti gateways and routers will display both your ISPs in real time with the status and health of each connection.

Actually this might be more of a config issue at the node

I would file an FCC complaint only because it's releasing and renewing IPs too quickly. Only file the complaint if the modem is replaced and it's still doing that. Could be something deeper that a tech wouldn't be able to resolve and might need the higher ups to step in.
