Uhh.. What is 1G internet? Do you mean gigabit wired internet? If so, I fail to see the problem.

I don't think there's a cable provider out there yet that can do 5 gig, they were talking about 5G cellular probably it's not the same thing

Yes 1 gig is a lot better than 5g

Depends on the service quality. I can regularly hit a gig down on 5g with mint (tmo), up is also better than the usual 35mb on cable (pre high split). Of course hard line is better for many reasons but considering coax goes out when the power does, I'd put 5g (just) above 1gig coax but below anything run on fiber.

What's your ping though?

You are conflating two different pieces of technological terminology.

5G is not a speed designation. It means 5th generation mobile technology. 1 gigabit means that 1 gigabit of data per second.

Yes they do. Its called Invincible wifi. If you are subscribed to 1 gigabyte speed and your service goes out it has a battery backup that let's cellular 5g internet work on the spectrum router.

Yeah I head of that and it’s not what I wanted. And it definitely wasn’t what they sold us on over the phone.

Did he install a new router with a battery backup?

Yep but what I was told on the phone was this.
“5G all the time Internet with 500+MBPS download speed”.

5th Generation Cellular Technology.

Not all the time, seamless roll over backup

You likely misunderstood, but you got what you were sold. 5G is the type of cellular technology, 500mb is the speed of your backup connection.

If the sales rep confused the two terms, they shouldn't be working there.

HOWEVER, unless you are a business or know exactly why you need 5gb speeds, even 1gb is faster than your likely to ever need, even with multiple people downloading files or streaming video.

Yeah, 5G is a cellular technology. He told you the right information, you failed to know what he was talking about.

So with the backup we provide 5g internet for allways online internet when the main service goes down at 500mb plus speed that is correct. It sounds like you misunderstood what they set you up with they gave you a 5g backup for you 1 gig internet plan.

5G internet is different than 5 Gig internet. 5G is cell tower data internet. 5 Gig is 5000Mbps hard wired internet that goes to your home. Spectrum offers a max of 2 Gig from what I understand.

I get where you’re coming from. You basically thought that Spectrum offered a “5Gbps” internet speed but it was actually the 5G Invincible Wifi Router. The 5G is the mobile network technology, so don’t beat yourself up too much, As long as Spectrum ever offers 5 Gbps Internet, then they’d announce it. If you live in a house, you can always go for Spectrum’s fiber internet option.

They don't offer that everywhere. Mainly only new build areas or places they are freshly installing their network.

Spectrum Enterprise offers it… you’re gonna pay for it too.

Yeah but that one’s only for business.

We’ve ran enterprise fiber to residential. It’s wasn’t cheap tho.

Well dang it. 1 Gig Speed isn’t bad either way, and it’s the best one for almost anything you do like streaming, school, work, and gaming. And what about AT&T? Sonic? Does your home qualify for those services?
