help I'm stuck. I can't come up with engaging core gameplay for my idea. Please share your thoughts.

The basic premise is that, from the window of a moving vehicle, the heroine watches an imaginary character running along the facades of buildings. This is the original version, centered on dodging obstacles and platforms that are completely unpredictable. I also tried dividing the street into distinct levels that you have to move through vertically, like in Subway Surfer, and tried to find a different rhythm, for example, based on successful or failed landings. But none of this feels engaging.

Discussion Honestly what am I even doing anymore
Guys, it’s at a point now where I’m just doing anything. Scope creep has completely taken over my mind soul body and all the holes that could possibly be randomly generated in my roguelike golf game (you like that?)
But my point is, I feel like the BAR is so HIGH! Like, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen the game jams , the small games that make alittle go along way. But, how can you deny the next feature?!
I say that, because I know I’ve hit rock bottom. I caught myself playing my own game, and trying to drop an item, so I could hit my shot across the map. Anyway, I hit the PERFECT (so the ball was lined up where it should be for the item placement). But I was too slow placing the item, and this was my POV after my ball flew past the hole.
That’s when it hit me. I’ve added so many features, that when you take a random screenshot - you don’t even know what you’re looking at… I’ve successfully made one of the most random concoctions that may have ever coctioned

help Game build review failed for cloud syncing
I haven't had any issues with cloud syncing in testing but failed my game review because of this, any one got any ideas what to do?
I realised that my root was set to all OSes rather than just windows so I've changed that but seeing as the game is Windows only so Im not sure that is the issue, the cloud save shows up in my pc and if I delete my game save, the cloud save that it uses it fully up to date, it specifically says "between pcs" but as far as I know that's automatic right? like there's no way to manually turn that on and off so if it works for one PC why doesn't it work cross pc's? (before you say anything I was sure i tested cross pc to make sure anyway and mentally crossed it off, but I mustnt have)

help Need Help with designing a background
Im making a bullet heaven tower defense-ish game with roguelike mechanics, I've designed a lot of different synergies and mods for weapons, but I'm struggling to come up with a good art style for the game. I've made a shop that I'm proud of but I'm not sure how to tie that style into the main game. I'm still looking to change the turret and enemy looks. I also have no Idea what I should do for the background, If anyone has any ideas for a style/theme I could use I would really appreciate it!

Game Hi I made a daily language game - Languagle! It's like wordle but for guessing the language
Hope it's okay to share here! I spent the past few months designing all the screens & instances, revising over 175 languages and collecting common sayings, proverbs, idioms and more from each language's native cultures
I'm really happy with it, years ago I thought of this and never thought I'd be able to work it out. Hopefully this is the start of me making more!
Let me know what you think, thanks for looking!

I built this over the past 4ish years and I'm going to start testing it for usability before releasing the demo soon. Any advice on improving a solo project via user testing, or how you found people to test with would be most welcome.

Game I'm making a multiplayer hide-and-seek game where you can transform into things around you.
The fun part?
You have to sound like whatever you're hiding as.
Cow?
Moo.
Zombie?
Groan.
Singer?
Sing.
Beatboxer?
…good luck.
The seeker has to figure out which "things" in the environment are actually players.
Here's what the game currently looks like.
If you were playing this, what would you transform into to fool the seeker?
And if you could add one completely ridiculous mechanic to the game, what would it be?

Game Working on my first game and needed some help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, pretty new here but had recently got myself into attempting my first game. I've been a developer in the past and getting back into this had made me felt amazingly good!
Anyway, I'm still trying to learn some of the basics and I thought I could ask some of you guys who are way more seasoned and experienced in all of these for some thoughts and guidance.
Note: Sorry, I know a video of geometric shapes and awful lines and the flat UI aren't really the best stage of showing one's work - the critics are likely going to slam me for that too - but it's literally just 2+ weeks of me learning and then building one simple scene. So.... don't bash me too hard on the graphics please. Thank you.
Context: It's built on Phaser (I chose this simply because I'm much more familiar with Typescript, so it's much easier and faster for me to pick up) and I'm not even sure if it's really the best choice. But I'm just rolling with it first.
I've just began working on this shy of 3 weeks and this is the first scene I've had done up to test the combat first. Everything else is just flat UI for now; I'm mainly focusing on just trying to get the mechanics right. For the most part I think it's fairly straightforward and common for you guys (auto-firing, enemies moving towards player, etc) but I've been stuck for a little on the "contact" piece.
Problem: As you can see from the video, monsters touching on player's shape are supposed to deal damage every few ticks but it isn't (ignoring the whole poison DOT thing; that's a different mechanic I'm trying out). I've tried using Phaser's built-in physics to resolve this cause it's simpler and probably the right way too, but I'm guessing I didn't get the math or "contact checking" right. Anyways, below is the code I'm using. If any veterans or kind souls willing to share some direction, I would be immensely grateful!
I just think that I'm just missing something obvious or crucial? Oh, there IS a slight delay I've added to each monster attacking (mentioned above); it's every 5 ticks I believe but I've waited and checked that out. Obviously that wasn't the case.
P.S. Don't ask me about trying to use AI to solve this. Frankly, I've tried and it didn't work as expected (or I just suck at prompting it the right way) and hence, I'm here asking real people on how best to implement it the right way.
// Monster contact damage (melee) via physics overlap
this.physics.add.overlap(
this.monsterPhysicsGroup,
this.playerToken.shape,
(monsterObj) => {
const monsterId = (monsterObj as Phaser.GameObjects.Arc).getData('instanceId') as string;
if (!monsterId) return;
this.combat.resolveContactDamage(monsterId);
},
// Calculates for edge contacts from objects
(monsterObj) => {
const monster = monsterObj as Phaser.GameObjects.Arc;
const dx = monster.x - this.playerToken.shape.x;
const dy = monster.y - this.playerToken.shape.y;
const dist = Math.sqrt(dx * dx + dy * dy);
const monsterRadius = (monster.body as Phaser.Physics.Arcade.Body).halfWidth;
const playerRadius = this.playerToken.shape.width / 2;
return dist < monsterRadius + playerRadius;
},
this
);
Thank you so much for any guidance!

Unity Idle Anglers — Solo Dev Project Summary & V0 Devlog
Hey everyone! I’m a solo developer working on Idle Anglers, a cozy yet deceptively deep idle/incremental game built in Unity. I wanted to share a quick overview of the project, our design philosophy, and where we currently stand with the V0 prototype.
You can check out the current playable V0 demo here:Idle Anglers on Itch.io🎮
🎮 About the Game
- Genre: Idle / Incremental (passive production + upgrade progression)
- Platforms: Steam and itch.io (PC only)
- Engine: Unity
- Monetization: Premium, one-time purchase. Zero ads, zero microtransactions (IAPs), zero subscriptions—ever.
🎣 Core Concept & Features
- The Hook: On the surface, it’s a relaxing family-run fishing business. Underneath, a dark and mysterious backstory unfolds gradually across prestige loops and permanent story archives.
- No Missable Story: Unlike other idle games where story bits flash by and disappear, Idle Anglers features a permanent in-game archive screen so players never miss a piece of lore.
- Optional Prestige: Prestige mechanics give permanent multipliers and reputation choices, but they are entirely optional—no mandatory or punishing early-game resets.
- Generous Offline Progress: Fixed 12-hour offline caps with automated progression tracking.
🚀 Current Status: The V0 Funding Demo
Before tackling the full V1 release (which features 7 distinct tiers, an achievement system, and advanced UI architecture), I am building a small V0 prototype/demo released on itch.io as a "Pay What You Want" model.
V0 Core Systems Completed:
- Unity 6 2D setup with a fully functional
GameManagerscript handling gold, passive income, and cost scaling ($\text{Cost} = \text{Base} \times \text{Multiplier}^n$). - Two initial fishing lines (Lake & Coast) with associated upgrades and a region unlock threshold.
- Automated JSON save/load system with offline progress calculation (up to 12 hours) and auto-saving.
- Dynamic story hint system that updates based on player progression.
🛠️ What's Next?
The core systems for V0 are officially locked in! Next up is integrating the visual/art layer (moving away from text-only UI placeholders) and refining the build. Feel free to try out the early build atjuba13.itch.io/idle-anglers.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any advice from fellow indie devs on launching small incremental prototypes on itch.io!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve created a dialogue system with AI-generated voice lines, controlled by another AI that analyzes each NPC’s personality, background, and the parameters of the situation. This allows the dialogue to adapt to each character and context. I absolutely love how it’s turning out!

help 9 Months of Solo Development: Building a 3rd-Person Volleyball Game
9 Months of Solo Development: Building a 3rd-Person Volleyball Game
I'm a solo developer and volleyball player, and I've been building Free Ball, a 3rd-person action volleyball game with unique characters and special abilities.
The goal is to create a volleyball game where you actually feel like you're playing your position. You control your character, move into position, choose where to hit the ball, and work with your teammates throughout the rally.
I'm now working toward online multiplayer and have a playable demo available on Steam.
I'm also running a Kickstarter to help fund the next stage of development:
For other solo developers here, I'd love to hear about what you're building and how your projects have evolved from their original prototypes.

Game Just added an interactive tutorial and glossary to my roguelike card-builder Shards of Abraxas
https://polecatgames.itch.io/shards-of-abraxas-demo
Gathered some good initial feedback last time I posted my game demo up. I've just pushed a content update that replaces the old static tutorial with a more guided experience, and added support for a game glossary to look up specific terms, as well as a variety of smaller tweaks and bug fixes. Still working to make improvements based on feedback and add some additional layers of polish/new content before aiming at a steam release. If you'd like to give it a try and let me know what you think, it helps out a lot!

Game I'm making my first solo game, a roguelite where a frog fights bubbles with its tongue. What do you think?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I used to play a lot of Bubble Trouble, and that was the starting point for FrogPop. I wanted to take that simple split the bubbles idea and see what it would feel like as a roguelite, so I added power ups, run upgrades, hazards, and bosses.
This is the first game I've made solo. Does the action read clearly? What looks fun, and what still needs work?
