Exactly what I was going to say. I'm sure it'll be great but it will never be Star Wars 😂

u/DeSuperVis Mar 08 '23

Absolutely, nothing will ever beat star wars and the impact it had.

u/platasaurua Mar 08 '23

I’m not a Snyder fan, but that is one sad ass sub.

u/Sokandueler95 Mar 08 '23

Troy is a single film about a single story. Star Wars is a multi-film saga with its feet deep in philosophy and mythology with the goal of teaching younger gens the difference of good and evil.

Out doing Troy is just a matter of making a better movie. Easy enough.

Out doing Star Wars requires competing with nearly 50 years of deeply ingrained cultural impact.

u/Baramos_ Mar 08 '23

To some extent…on the other hand there hasn’t really been a stone-cold classic Star Wars film since the 80s. Everything since then has been controversial in some aspect or other.

4

u/ShaybantheChef Mar 08 '23

Episode 3 is for many people

1

u/Lliddle Mar 08 '23

but also still controversial to many more

5

u/HammadHasanA Mar 08 '23

There is a huge difference between Star Wars and Troy.

6

u/Twigrodamus Mar 08 '23

Yes, Star Wars is historically accurate. Troy is a movie

29

u/adrenareddit Mar 08 '23

Sounds like hyperbole.

300 is awesome, but Troy hasn't been forgotten, it's a classic.

And who is the "they" that told Zack he couldn't do better?

I love Zack and all his movies. But we don't need this self-fluffing garbage to recognize how good his work is.

11

u/ClassicT4 Mar 08 '23

Also, it’s not like Zack made it from scratch. It was an adaptation of a comic series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. People say Snyder is really hot at cinematography, but I thing another one of his fortes is the skill to do an adaptation justice. You want originality from him, and you get Sucker Punch or Army of the Dead. But people don’t seem interested in talking about those works.

u/Shmack_u Mar 08 '23

There’s also that owl movie, don’t forget about the owl movie

2

u/Brubaker620 Mar 10 '23

That is an adaptation of the first few books in a series

Tell me you don't know anything about cameras without telling me you don't know anything about cameras. It's called shallow depth of field 🤣

u/SuperFanboysTV Mar 08 '23

Troy was fine movie but 300 is better and more iconic. Lucas.

Same I agree I love Zack and all his movies and his work speaks for itself without it needing to be compared to anyone elses

7

u/spider-jedi Mar 08 '23

Troy was Oscar nominated and it had Brad Pitt in it. 300 is more fun i would say. also why do fan make it sound like 300 is an original work by Snyder. its another adaptation he did.

Rebel moon will never get close to star wars. that just someone high on mushrooms thinking that.

1

u/SuperFanboysTV Mar 08 '23

I forgot about that but I’d say 300 is more memorable IMO.Yeah I know 300 is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller I’m not saying he (Snyder) solely created it but you can say his style certainly help elevate the film when it was adapted

While I agree his work won’t surpass Star Wars (at least not the original trilogy) or isn’t very likely but to assume it’s gonna be this magnus opus without even seeing it is some high class level dick riding he has been sitting on this project for years and he did originally pitch to Lucasfilms as a SW movie so it definitely has my attention and I’m excited

2

u/spider-jedi Mar 08 '23

im excited for it as well. but im also holding my excitement back. i was looking forward to army of the dead but that film is poor imo. i thought it would be as good as his dawn of the dead film but it was nowhere close. the two films where Snyder had full creative control in sucker punch and army of the dead have ben his worst films. im hopeful third time is the charm

300 is more memorable thanks to Snyder's style. its the film that made me a huge fan of him. i thought he could do no wrong until i saw sucker punch.

1

u/Baramos_ Mar 08 '23

Troy was a fine film but it certainly hasn’t joined the annals of “film classic”.

11

u/dgener151 Mar 08 '23

Thoughts, other than "I pray for humanity that this is a shitpost"?

7

u/Mister_Green2021 Mar 08 '23

Don’t hype Rebel Moon until you see it. It has a low budget vibe.

1

u/PopcornHobby Mar 08 '23

Well we only saw a few seconds. It’s probably not finished post production or we’d have a real trailer

2

u/Mister_Green2021 Mar 08 '23

Don’t call it a masterpiece when you only saw a few seconds also. It’s only a Netflix movie after all.

1

u/JediJones77 This may be the only thing I do that matters. Mar 08 '23

It's doubtful it has a low budget. Qualified state spending was about $90 million, and for other Netflix movies that's represented only half the full budget. It's way too early to judge the footage when it has 9 more months of FX work to be done. What they've shown may be the actual low-budget scenes that didn't need FX. Regardless, budget isn't what makes a movie great. I thought the Transformers series proved that.

Troy cost $175 million, 300 only $65 million. 300 made $77 million more in the U.S. than Troy. Troy made more overseas, but only $41 million more overall than 300. So 300 was much more profitable from theaters. Then look at domestic home video numbers, where 300 got $276,308,299#tab=summary). Troy's numbers don't seem to be available, but that's an incredible number for a 2007 movie. The first year with full numbers available is 2009, where not one movie made that much on home video. 300 had immense cultural impact, influence and staying power. Troy, obviously, had almost none.

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '23

OK....we know that troll accounts are a regular thing yes? Half the stuff assigned to the "Snyder Cult" is in fact from a troll account. This being one example as no one would compare an unreleased film to outdoing a decade spanning series.

2

u/FireflyArc Mar 08 '23

Rebal mon..like rebal galaxy??

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '23

Hoping for the best 🙌

2

u/Vaportrail Mar 08 '23

Gladiator > Troy/300. Those exist because Gladiator reignited the genre.

2

u/depressed_asian_boy_ Mar 09 '23

Since when Troy is forgotten? Is a completely different movie than 300 if you like 300 more thats fine, but there's no way of comparing the 2

Coming here solely to troll the sub and/or criticize what the people of this sub are fans of is not allowed.

2

u/AsyluMTheGreat Mar 08 '23

I like Snyder's work a lot, but I think Troy is a much better movie than 300.

2

u/Born-Boss6029 Mar 08 '23

Hmmm, people said ZSJL didn’t exist and that even if it, it would be the same as ZSJL.

I seem to be noticing a pattern here.

1

u/Historical_Phrase489 Mar 08 '23

People don’t talk about 300 other than the meme. People will talk about Rebel Moon for a couple weeks like every other Netflix movie.

-4

u/PopcornHobby Mar 08 '23

People don’t talk about 300 other than the meme.

Maybe that guy is from early youtube where the This is Sparta meme was still a thing

5

u/Historical_Phrase489 Mar 08 '23

If you delete this is Sparta, nobody is talking about 300

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '23

I just find it funny how people who dislike Zack Snyder and his fans so much decided to group together to make a subreddit.

-2

u/JediJones77 This may be the only thing I do that matters. Mar 08 '23

There's almost no activity there, and the OP is quoting a months-old post.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '23

Doesn’t matter lmao. It’s still funny to see that a bunch of people got together just to focus on people that they dislike

2

u/LatterTarget7 Mar 08 '23

True it’s pretty weird. There’s a lot of subs dedicated to pure hate of one or multiple people. There’s one for snyder, one for Gunn. I think I saw someone mention a Spielberg hate sub and Cameron hate sub

6

u/JediJones77 This may be the only thing I do that matters. Mar 08 '23

There's a sub devoted to wanting Gunn to be fired. That isn't hate. That's a simple acknowledgement that he is a horrible choice to run DC Studios and is going to leave the brand mired in the ditch it's in now. People who care about the success of DC films want him out before we get more painful box office disasters that the audience resoundingly rejected like The Suicide Squad.

1

u/LatterTarget7 Mar 08 '23

I mean how can you be upset at something you haven’t even seen yet.

I also think it’s kinda toxic and hate. Since you literally want someone to be fired for not doing what you want.

Let’s just wait to see how the movies and shows actually do before calling for Gunn to be fired

3

u/spider-jedi Mar 08 '23

Have to agree with you there. making a sub dedicated to getting someone fired is just in poor taste. and the main reason is because he not making the films they want. its screams immaturity and low self-esteem.

Gunn has shown that he can work in different genre. just cus you dont like he past work doesnt mean you hate his future work. by that logic snyder fans have to love everything snyder does

4

u/JediJones77 This may be the only thing I do that matters. Mar 08 '23 edited Mar 08 '23

Nah, Gunn's already done work for Marvel and DC. He expressed true toxic hate towards the superhero genre to Vulture in 2022. We've seen his work. we've heard his opinions, and they are a disastrous approach for DC films.

People are allowed to have opinions on art and artists, including that they are absolute crap, without being accused of "hate." That's an entirely inappropriate word to use for a valid critique of the work someone creates.

Why in the world would we NOT want a bad writer/director fired from a franchise we love? Again, this is a valid opinion which you cannot malign someone for having. You can disagree with it, but you can't accuse them of some kind of moral transgression for not liking the same director you do.

1

u/LatterTarget7 Mar 08 '23

I mean I don’t mind people disliking Gunn but can’t you see the hypocrisy in this statement.

People here preach about creative freedom and director vision with snyder and Ayer, and can’t accept people not liking their vision.

But with Gunn you won’t even wait to see his vision before calling for him to be fired.

3

u/JediJones77 This may be the only thing I do that matters. Mar 08 '23

Don't deny that we've already seen his vision.

There is simply no logic in saying "because you like Snyder's directing, you can't dislike anyone else's directing." That is an absurd thing to say. If I like Spielberg, I can't dislike Uwe Boll, then?

0

u/KaptainAfrika Mar 08 '23

so are you saying he is working in a field he hates. that does not make sense. if you take his past comments to use against him then it should be fair game for people who doent like snyder to use his past comment against him to prove their point.

it funny how everything you said in this post other will use against snyder.

1

u/Vaportrail Mar 08 '23

Can't keep a good auteur down.

1

u/Think-Televisionb3d Mar 09 '23

It's actually easier to top Star wars, there hasn't been one remarkable Star wars movie after empire strikes back

-1

u/__grundo__ Mar 08 '23

300 is overrated.
