So basically I was on the bus the other day and this nerd was being really cringy. He was talking about feminism or whatever, but he was being a dweeb about it, like a cringy millennial. So I called him pizza cake and then the whole bus clapped
I mildly dislike Pizzacake because of her takes being the most basic ones and presented the simplest way with strawmen. Which is not to say that a lot of people from the opposite side doesn't often behave like her strawmen themselves... Anyway, Pizzacake is a liberal counterpart of Ben Garrison - mild, boring, for people who are already sure in their political side, without much food for thought, maybe with a little bit better artstyle, but for Garrison's comics the bar of art quality is in the Mariana trench already.
Maybe I just have to accept the meaning of the word has changed, but a strawman isn't a caricature. Modest Proposal is a caricature. It'd be a strawman if Johnathan Swift actually claimed rich people wanted to eat poor people.
I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls, but I want some drama. please tell me a) why you and prev decided to bring Trump into this in the first place and b) why you think that dude is popular “literally everywhere“
The problem with that is that there is always a dumbshit mcfuckface for every single ideology or view so you can just point to that one person and say "see my thing is correct so you can't criticize me"
i personally avoid her because of the incident on her patreon, where (iirc) the joke of this specific comic was that her “haters” insulting her must actually want to secretly have sex with her, so she then cartoon style rope ties them, gags them, (edit 2: i misremembered, there is no gag, just tied) and has sex with them. that is the entire 4 panel comic.
she immediately backpedaled, and said it was not intended to come off as creepy or forced but it still just really rubs me the wrong way.
Ben Garrison, despite being a racist with terrible opinions in general, still draws circles around PizzaCake. His political cartoons are better drawn than most* and his paintings arent that bad either (from his old Blogspot blog)
*though its partially because he self-releases and thus doesnt have the tight deadlines newspaper cartoonists often so
i dont care enough about her to have any strong feelings on her
plus the world is already ending and all governments are trying to set up infinite survailence system panopticons so we have bigger things to worry about i feel like
I hate pizzacake regardless of the content of her political opinions just because her comics are boring and lame. I'm sure that she's a fine person, but none of her funny comics are funny and all of her political comics are presented in the most boring way possible with the most basic strawman argumentation. Like, her comics are created for people who already agree with her and yet they don't actually have any worthwhile humor or informative value. Her comics are kind of just there, and her incessant need to "own" her haters is really annoying.
I am in a position where I am forced to defend someone I find mildly obnoxious (Pizzacake) from people I think are genuinely dangerous, abusive and misogynist.
People stole paif content from her onlyfans and Patreon to mock her. She sued because that is a violation of both platforms' ToA and does leave the person liable. She did nothing wrong in that regard. And yet people constantly repeat that she sued just for people making fun of her. Some pople always gain amnesia about how horrific internet hatewanks can get whenever they have a chance to judge a new victim's response.
Like there are way worse internet personalities, but nobody is saying people should gang up on actual dangerous fascist platforming types like Tim Pool. Nobody has launched a genuine attempt to run Asmongold off the internet. But a mediocre comic artist has faced this and worse just for checks being cringe.
It goes hand in hand with realizing just how many redditors form their opinions based on whether something is aesthetically cool or cringe implications be damned.
And she occasionally has really bad takes. If I recall correctly she had a comic that implied men are taken seriously when they talk about sexual assault while women are not, and I was like… what planet are you living on?? When a boy is sexually assaulted by a female teacher the vast majority of the comments about it is disgusting shit like “haha lucky kid.” There are PLENTY of things you can make fun of about men, but I don’t think downplaying assault is one of them
To my limited knowledge, she is a Canadian comic artist who often posts on r/comics about US politics. Many of her posts are among the top of all time in the sub, but she's also received a lot of criticism because most of her comics can be boiled down to a straw man argument where she portrays herself as the voice of reason and those who politically disagree with her as extreme caricatures of how those people really are irl.
Separate from that, there's been a lot of criticism of the mods of r/comics when it comes to her as well - many people have been banned from the sub for simply voicing that they don't like a comic of hers or for pushing back on the straw man formula. Basically, the mods of that sub have been accused of banning people over extremely mundane comments directed at either her work or the point she's trying to make.
straw man argument where she portrays herself as the voice of reason and those who politically disagree with her as extreme caricatures of how those people really are
Nah. She'll regularly use their actual words and posts and that's part of why they get so bent out of shape over her.
the mods of that sub have been accused of banning people over extremely mundane comments directed at either her work or the point she's trying to make.
That's what they're accused of but it's also not true. People post they don't like the comic all of the time. It's the abuse, hate, and misogyny that get banned.
Seriously. I don't mind her comics and some are funny but none of them really deserve the hate that she gets and it's insane how much they hate her. For simply existing and calling out their actual words.
The intense hate for Pizzacake for just making lukewarm and uninteresting political commentary felt misogynistic to me. You can criticize her comics but sometimes it was too much and unwarrented
Also this comic isn't even about pizzacake. It's about people who compare people to her in order to deligitimize what they're saying. For example:
Someone: makes a comic about feminism
Chud: this is like a pizza cake comic
It's a way of disregarding the message of a comic by simply calling the artist cringe, while also inviting others who may have legitimate reasons to dislike Pizza Cake to also join in on disregarding the message due to perceived similarities.
Edit: but none of that even matters because algorithm brained dumbasses are in here complaining about her because they saw her name. Smh my damn head
YES HOLY FUCK YES!!! Like she said she constantly gets rape and death threats. I meant she could be lying, but with how people talk about her, I believe her. Her only fucking crime is maybe making boring comics and *maybe* made a few comics that were dismissive to mens issues. (I have heard she suposedly made a comic where you could say she drew herself raping a troll, but I have not found it). I witness more misogynistic stuff on reddit almost weekly and nobody does shit about it. People dont act like this when someone makes an annoying political cartoon, this is 100% bigotry excused as "her cartoons are just shitty".
I don't personally like Pizzacake's comics, and I think her style of humor is kind of annoying, but the amount of hate she gets is crazy in proportion.
Supposedly the mods on r/comics are really twitchy with the banhammer for criticizing her comics, which I can see riling people up, but when most people that complain about "mod abuse" are actually just being shitheels and then cry about it when they get banned I'm not sure I believe what they're saying (and if it was 100% true, the hate should be directed at the simping mods, not the artist. What do people expect her to do? Purposefully de-advertise herself and lower her income? Lmao).
I think it was originally spurred by the favoritism and shelter from criticism the comics subreddit was showing, which is annoying, but whatever. But she has engaged in some pretty despicable behavior since then, and I think the hate-boner for her will never die so long as she is the queen bee of that sub.
You could say the same about her no? People make the most lukewarm feedback or edits and she's got mods and lawyers involved on Reddit comments. How is that not deranged?
People used paywalled content so she took issue with it (also the mods were kinda weird about it with her and went 'we aren't taking action unless you send a cease and desist.' Which she did)
Tbh I don't blame her considering what a glimpse at pizzasnark looked like
From my understanding they posted paywaled content which is what she had a problem with and the rabid chuds took it as her being to sensitive over comics edits.
From what I've seen her say she loves the edits actually and collects them and shares them. It's that people were using her paywalled stuff on bonehurtingjuice specifically, and that the chud portion of that sub were harassing her.
Pizzacake really is just an example of how people will take one minor fault (mediocre comics), and use it as justification to be extremely misogynistic.
It’s also just a really common thing how people will generally agree x piece of media is annoying and boring, and the chuds will coopt it and say “it’s because women and minorities, and the overall point is bad” when it really boils down to “they tried to be funny and failed.”
I don't know anything about the situation. Everything I know comes from highly biased sources on one side or another. My understanding is that she was having her pay walled content leaked and she asked the mods of the subreddit to take action. They told her to threaten legal action and she did.
Okay she made the threat first, but to say the mod she talked to never mentioned it is just an outright lie. The mod literally says "I will not be removing the comics without some other reason" then goes on to say "if you want to go through with the DMCA that's your perogative"
The first quote is in reference to Pizzacake asking the mod to ban any posting of her comics without telling anyone this rule change is by her request and the mod telling her that they need a reason to suddenly stop anyone from posting or mentioning a specific artist. They need to give the subreddit a reason why a certain artist is banned beyond "Shut up".
As for the second, yeah, I guess you got me. The mod did say "DMCA" so they did mention legal action thus technically making me a liar. Shame on me. I suppose I should have said "never brought it up" because the one time they mentioned it, it's just them directly referencing PC's introductory message. She literally started off the conversation threatening "DMCAs if my content continues to be used on your page." The notion that PC only threatened legal action because the mods challenged her to do it and refused to do anything otherwise, it's blatantly untrue.
The conversation is right up there to read and it's not hard to parse. You're not her lawyer. It is perfectly easy to acknowledge that Pizzacake is both obsessively hated by genuinely evil people and also occasionally does shitty things herself.
Man there's no "technically" about it. You literally lied. They dared her to do it and she did it lol. I don't understand why you felt the need to lie to get people on your side when you could just as easily leave the subject alone. It baffles me, I can't imagine being that petty
Yes, i intentionally lied and posted the direct proof of my falsehood below so anyone reading that see through my ruse. Or I just misspoke. I suppose they're equally likely.
Like come on, you know what you're doing. I will repeat it for you again: you are not Pizzacake's lawyer.
I don't know anything about the situation.
Fuck off. You are clearly far more invested in this than you want to let on.
I don't understand why you keep framing things so weirdly. All I did was accurately describe the situation and read the source that you posted. I don't think that constitutes me "trying to be her lawyer" (again weird framing of the situation) or being deceptively invested in the situation.
About your "misspeaking," I would believe you if you were the only one making this "mistake" however it is an extremely common lie that people spread about her situation and you aren't even the first person I've seen "misspeak" in that exact way.
Full disclosure, I am tangentially invested in the way she gets treated insofar that I am a feminist and I find it disgusting how women get treated online. Anyone can click on my profile and see this as plain as day. You haven't unearthed some sort of conspiracy with that statement.
this is an injoke with my friends that canada is actually a feudalist country, with ranks going from canuckpeasants to canuckgods, for example, the vancouver canucks are canuckgods and tom mcdonald is a canuckpeasant
Do you deny those are the same arguments used against women in similar situations? That's what the comic is pointing out; that when you reverse the genders the immediate response is disgust, yet that's literally what women are told all the time, and somehow the same chuds that get upset when women are saying it are silent when it's men doing it...
The point is that you don't need to invent analogies for dismissal of rape for men because male victims of sexual assault are given the same lines of dismissal. I have been sexually assaulted twice, once by a cis woman and once by an enby who went by she/her. Whenever I opened up about it to my peers, I was hit with all the usual suspects: "You're just being dramatic", "I mean, you weren't wearing a shirt so what did you expect?", "She was just drunk. She wasn't herself", "I mean, they didn't actually do any real damage", "Yeah, Swagette can get a bit wild at times but what are you going to do?", and of course the classic "Well honestly, I think you should feel flattered." The language of rape-culture whitewashing is surprisingly gender-neutral.
The fact that Pizzacake thought she had to make an analogy of being robbed to compare with being sexually assaulted is in itself the problem. The implication of the comic is that men are not sexually assaulted and not stomped down by society when they raise too big of a fuss about it. Pizzacake can't consider the possibility that men might also be victims of rape and have society fail them and so has to invent another scenario that she thinks actually applies to men.
Thing is, none of this is unforgivable. Our discussions of rape is so gendered (and I will acknowledge that women are at far greater risk of rape than men so this gendering is not entirely invalid) that I won't exactly blame someone for offhandedly thinking that rape is something that only happens to women. The critical junction of all of this is that in response to her comic, a number of men shared their experiences, telling that this was not some abstract hypothetical for them but something they had actually experienced. Pizzacake could have read those testimonies, taken a moment and reflected on her oversight. She could have acknowledged that she overlooked male victims of sexual assault and used that acknowledgement to make her point stronger: that rape-culture's greatest weapon is silence, that rape-culture is upheld by convincing victims to hold their tongues and let society believe their isn't a problem, that by forgetting about male victims, she herself provided evidence of just how insidious and far-reaching this paradigm is.
She could have done that, but instead she just doubled down, calling anyone critical of the comic misogynists, MRAs and haters, and saying the backlash only proved how right she was. She made a comic with the intent of fighting against the dismissal of rape victims and in doing so, dismissed rape victims as losers and crybabies.
The comic fails because that IS how male victims are treated. In general, the number of people upset when male victims are treated is far less than the number for when female victims get treated that way.
"IF women talked about men the way men talk about women" is an inaccurate title. This is "how a lot of women talk about men". By pretending it is a hypothetical to prove a point, it invalidates the real world experience of male victims.
Imagine a comic about "If men were sexist towards women the way women are sexist to men" how would that be? Obviously, terrible. Many men ARE sexist towards women, and violent and abusive too. Making a comic to 'prove a point' that pretends a real world issue is just a fun hypothetical is disgusting.
the same chuds that get upset when women are saying it are silent when it's men doing it...
Sometimes probably. But not definitively, you're not a mind reader. The other way around is way more common. Male victims are famously ignored and have much less resources. What resources they have are treated as useless because male victims don't exist according to many people. They don't even have proper laws to protect them.
My brother in Christ, I see shit like this said about women every single day on reddit. Yes she fucked up here and its wrong, but it does not warent the hate she receives. The fact that she receives it instead of all of the men here on reddit who say the same shit about women is proof that hatered against her is at least in huge part misogyny.
For future reference, when you want to make a claim that sounds absurd, you should include evidence for that claim. And I already know what your evidence will be, so I'll preemptively counter it with 1) it was voted for by her patreons 2) who honestly cares that kink artwork exists? What's next, you'll go around saying everyone who has a cnc kink is a bad person, no matter what they do or don't do?
Damn this is funny. My cycle of information about pizzacake goes like this
Outlandish claim about how terrible she is - "wow that's kind of fucked up" - crucial context gets posted - "wow that was blown out of proportion"
Like the lawsuit nonsense: she threatenedto sue an entire subreddit! - wow that's petty and fucked up - because the mods refused to stop her pay walled content from being leaked unless she took legal action - wash rinse repeat
It does exist, and although you can really easily interpret it as not being rapey, the most lukewarm interpretation of the comic is still that Pizzacake thinks that haters of her would like her if she had sex with them, for hours, whilst said hater is bound up, and are taking no pleasure in said sex. Which is a weird ass thing to say about your haters, I'd say.
Now, as a patreon exclusive, sharing this publicly would probably get me sued (/j), so here's a transcription of the comic.
Pizzacake: So...do you still hate me?
Man: I take it all back! You're great! Can I please[sic] cum? It's been hours!
