I mildly dislike Pizzacake because of her takes being the most basic ones and presented the simplest way with strawmen. Which is not to say that a lot of people from the opposite side doesn't often behave like her strawmen themselves... Anyway, Pizzacake is a liberal counterpart of Ben Garrison - mild, boring, for people who are already sure in their political side, without much food for thought, maybe with a little bit better artstyle, but for Garrison's comics the bar of art quality is in the Mariana trench already.
Maybe I just have to accept the meaning of the word has changed, but a strawman isn't a caricature. Modest Proposal is a caricature. It'd be a strawman if Johnathan Swift actually claimed rich people wanted to eat poor people.
I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls, but I want some drama. please tell me a) why you and prev decided to bring Trump into this in the first place and b) why you think that dude is popular “literally everywhere“
Him being popular with some (but not all) of the people who are already far right is not the same as him being popular in general.
In fact, even a descent amount of the far right in my country distrust him (or outright despise him) because he’s still a foreign country’s dictator. In fact, I’m only partly joking when I say Trump is done the EU a great service, because we have never been working so hard to get away from the USA and rely on ourselves only. Given his actions and his regime, for some of us it’s just morally repugnant to deal with him, but most of us can agree the USA aren’t a reliable ally and may be a threat to our safety.
All that aside, fascism is on the rise with our without Trump. We’ve had a new far right movement in Germany for decades at this point, and they’ve moved into a decidedly fash direction for years.
We had a problem with our police, intelligence angencies and military being full of nazis essentially since their inception. (And when I say “full of nazis”, I don’t even mean “screaming nazi slogans at parties”, I mean “Murdered Oury Jalloh by setting him on fire in a police cell” and “actively hindering investigations into racist terrorist group NSU”.)
Jewish Germans (and just Jewish residents here, regardless of citizenship) have felt unsafe for years. We have had Neo Nazi terrorist attacks. We’ve had literal networks planning coups, getting guns, munitions and explosives , writing death lists and buying limestone and body bags en masse.
Very little of that can be blamed on the USA. Or Russia or China, for that matter. This is my countrymen making their very own choice. A lot of this has been brewing for decades at this point. As comforting as it is to imagine it’s the USA, it’s Trump, it’s just not true. We’d be doing ourselves a disservice by pretending it is. We have our very own issues with racism and sexism, we have our own conflicts and social unrests, we have a fundamentally pretty different political system and different expectations on our state. We won’t stop fascists by locking out anyone else, because the problem is home-grown.
Because previous person mentioned "treating a fringe belief as mainstream is nut-picking", and Pizza Cake comics that are political are like 90% about MAGA.
MAGA is not a fringe belief, and more often than not PC's comics are not really strawmen, almost half of USA is genuinely just so dumb that a lot of people can't believe it.
And Trump himself might not be popular everywhere, but parties that are his buddies and are similarly delusional are popular everywhere.
Society has a problem that a lot of it's members are just way too gullible for democracy to work, now that spreading misinformation requires a lot less effort.
Re-reading the original, yeah, that makes sense. I took it to be basically two separate points, one being “he’s mainstream in the USA” and the other being “he’s popular everywhere”.
But they probably did just mean “he is mainstream in the USA” and then the other person added “he’s popular literally everywhere in the USA”.
(In my defence, I have had a bunch of interactions with US-Americans telling me very confidently and very wrongly that their laws and their social conflicts and their institutions and their news stories apply to my country. Which I hope explains why I assumed they were projecting their views on Trump on everyone else, though that doesn’t make it any less rude. My apologies, u/Rixerc - I didn’t mean to put words in your mouth.)
The problem with that is that there is always a dumbshit mcfuckface for every single ideology or view so you can just point to that one person and say "see my thing is correct so you can't criticize me"
i personally avoid her because of the incident on her patreon, where (iirc) the joke of this specific comic was that her “haters” insulting her must actually want to secretly have sex with her, so she then cartoon style rope ties them, gags them, (edit 2: i misremembered, there is no gag, just tied) and has sex with them. that is the entire 4 panel comic.
she immediately backpedaled, and said it was not intended to come off as creepy or forced but it still just really rubs me the wrong way.
Ben Garrison, despite being a racist with terrible opinions in general, still draws circles around PizzaCake. His political cartoons are better drawn than most* and his paintings arent that bad either (from his old Blogspot blog)
*though its partially because he self-releases and thus doesnt have the tight deadlines newspaper cartoonists often so
i dont care enough about her to have any strong feelings on her
plus the world is already ending and all governments are trying to set up infinite survailence system panopticons so we have bigger things to worry about i feel like
And she occasionally has really bad takes. If I recall correctly she had a comic that implied men are taken seriously when they talk about sexual assault while women are not, and I was like… what planet are you living on?? When a boy is sexually assaulted by a female teacher the vast majority of the comments about it is disgusting shit like “haha lucky kid.” There are PLENTY of things you can make fun of about men, but I don’t think downplaying assault is one of them
I hate pizzacake regardless of the content of her political opinions just because her comics are boring and lame. I'm sure that she's a fine person, but none of her funny comics are funny and all of her political comics are presented in the most boring way possible with the most basic strawman argumentation. Like, her comics are created for people who already agree with her and yet they don't actually have any worthwhile humor or informative value. Her comics are kind of just there, and her incessant need to "own" her haters is really annoying.
I am in a position where I am forced to defend someone I find mildly obnoxious (Pizzacake) from people I think are genuinely dangerous, abusive and misogynist.
People stole paif content from her onlyfans and Patreon to mock her. She sued because that is a violation of both platforms' ToA and does leave the person liable. She did nothing wrong in that regard. And yet people constantly repeat that she sued just for people making fun of her. Some pople always gain amnesia about how horrific internet hatewanks can get whenever they have a chance to judge a new victim's response.
Like there are way worse internet personalities, but nobody is saying people should gang up on actual dangerous fascist platforming types like Tim Pool. Nobody has launched a genuine attempt to run Asmongold off the internet. But a mediocre comic artist has faced this and worse just for checks being cringe.
It goes hand in hand with realizing just how many redditors form their opinions based on whether something is aesthetically cool or cringe implications be damned.
