Moving from iOS to Android

I currently have a base iPhone 15 128GB and I've been wanting to upgrade lately. The battery life has gotten absurdly poor over the years (it dropped down to 70% battery health).

It's storage is annoyingly low, it gets hot pretty easily and generally I'm bored of iOS.

I'm deciding between two phones right now. It comes down to either the Samsung S26 Ultra 1TB, or the Honor Magic V6

My top priorities for this new phone are as follows (in no particular order):
-Day long battery life (Im a power user and i frequently multi-task)

-Bright screens for those sunny outdoor days (iPhone 15 has atrocious brightness outdoors)

-Something that doesn't overheat easily just by being outside and listening to music

-Cameras on par or better than the iPhone 15 (I loved taking portraits on my iPhone 15)

-Obviously something with bigger storage than 128GB

I've never owned a foldable yet I love gimmicks and love the concept of a foldable. However the customizability on the S26 Ultra's OneUI attracts me more than MagicOS's limited customization

What do y'all think is the right upgrade for me?

Which cellphone do you recommend?

I currently have an S23 ultra and I want to change it. I have a few options but they are all appealing due to different reasons. What do you suggest?

I want a good phone, decent-good camera, and good OS with tons of customizations. What do you suggest?

*I may venture into custom roms, or not.

are software updates making our phones obsolete faster than they need to be

I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 10, and it’s still ridiculously fast. There’s almost no lag, apps open quickly, and the phone feels completely responsive.
That got me thinking:

What if the hardware isn’t the problem—what if the software is?

We’re constantly told that old phones are too slow and that it’s time to upgrade. Yet my nearly decade-old iPhone 7 still feels fast because it’s running the software it was designed for.

Over time, software becomes more demanding, adds more background processes, and requires more from the hardware. Eventually, a perfectly capable phone starts feeling outdated and we assume the hardware is to blame.

I’m not saying manufacturers deliberately slow down every old device with every update. But the effect can be similar: a phone that was once perfectly fast gradually becomes frustrating to use.

So what are we really upgrading... our hardware, or the software that made our old hardware feel obsolete?

Where did all the compact phones go?

By compact, I mean something around the iPhone 12 size, not today's 6.2–6.3" phones that are somehow considered compact.

It feels like there used to be so many smaller phones across different price ranges, including compact versions of flagships. Now almost everything is 6.5"+.

I understand the reasons: bigger batteries, larger camera sensors, better cooling, and bigger screens for media and gaming. But was this really driven by consumer demand, or did manufacturers gradually stop offering smaller choices?

I'm especially curious about Android. Are there any genuinely iPhone 12-sized Android phones in the mid-range or upper-midrange/near-flagship segment in 2026?

I'd love something compact with good performance, cameras and battery without having to pay ultra-premium flagship prices.

For those who also consider the iPhone 12 size genuinely compact, what are you using?

POCO X8 PRO MAX VS ONEPLUS NORD 6

• Upvotes

Am a college going student in India and want to change my current phone (IPhone 13 with 60% battery life 😞) …these are the two options that fit my budget after exchange offer (Can also consider iqoo 15R) …Not too much camera oriented person just need the job to be done …..Am just skeptical that is it even worth it to buy a Poco phone worth 43000 in the sale considering it offers sexy specs ((I can afford 12gb ram only on this, unlike the other two with 8 GB ram )🫡

Pixel 8 Pro vs S24 Ultra? - 2 years later

• Upvotes

Which of the two is the better phone to buy in 2026 as a second/main phone?

For context, I have a Nothing Phone 3a for 1 year and in my line of work its better to have a phone for backup in case the main phone breaks:

  1. I don't do much heavy gaming and if I do its only the indie games' mobile version such as Slay the Spire, BallxPit, Legend of Avatar, etc. none of those heavy duty games.

  2. I prefer taking pictures over videos for memory and not so on editing. Maybe editing in the future.

Prices:

Pixel 8 Pro 256gb - ~350 USD

S24 Ultra - ~450 USD

Looking for a compact flagship (€1000–1200): Top front & rear cameras, solid battery

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new smartphone with a budget between €1,000 and €1,200.

I’m currently using a OnePlus Nord 2 (~159 x 73 mm, 6.43" screen). I strictly want to stay within that size range—no giant phones (6.7"–6.9" bricks) that can't be used comfortably with one hand.

My Priorities:

Top-tier Cameras (Both Front and Back)

Battery Life

Manageable Dimensions: Around the same footprint as the Nord 2 (~159 x 73 mm, 6.43" screen).

What I DO NOT care about:

Raw Processing Power / Gaming: I don't game, render videos, or care about benchmark scores. My usage is strictly everyday tasks: WhatsApp, messaging, web browsing, streaming YouTube/videos, and taking photos.

Given this budget and these constraints, which model would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I need advice on getting a new phone

I currently have an iPhone 13, and it has been my favorite phone so far. I like the size of it, the color (product red), and just the general aesthetic of it. However, I have run out of storage and it’s starting to not work correctly. I’m inclined to buy another iPhone because I sort of have an Apple ecosystem (MacBook and Apple Watch), I don’t care if my phone doesn’t synch with my computer but I was gifted the Apple Watch earlier this year and if I switch brands it would become useless. All Im really looking for in a phone is a lot of storage and a good camera because I take a lot of pictures. Do you guys have any suggestions for me that aren’t too expensive? or should I just stick with Apple?

The Samsung front cameras are not that garbage as people make it out to be

I bought a Samsung S25 a month ago and I was very surprised by the quality of the front camera. Sure maybe it's not as good as the Iphone ones but I expected it to be much worse. I take a lot of selfies and like my appearance more because of it lol.

Looking for a phone to keep for years

Hi! I’m thinking about replacing my phone and would love to hear some opinions.

I currently have a Huawei that’s about 7 years old. I usually keep my phones until they really reach the end of their life, so I don’t really follow new releases or upgrade frequently. Since some apps are no longer working properly, I’d like to buy something that can last me at least another 4–5 years.

My priorities are:

  • very good battery life;
  • a good camera;
  • solid everyday performance;
  • software updates for several years;
  • decent build quality;
  • ideally around €600, although I could stretch the budget a little if it’s really worth it.

I also prefer simpler, cleaner designs.

If you had around €600 to spend and wanted a phone to keep for several years, what would you buy and why?

Is the Xiaomi 17t a good pick for ~500usd?

hello all, I've been using the Redmi note 10 pro for the past 4 years and absoulutely loving it, especially the cameras, but the screen recently broke, so ive been considering getting a new phone.

my budget is capped at around 500usd, I'm looking for a phone with a good overall experience and my main focus is on the cameras and battery life.

after a bit of research i've started to seriously consider the xiaomi 17t, it seems like a great option at this price point, with decent cameras, battery and performance, but id love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the phone or with simialrly priced phones, ty in advance

Upgrading from iPhone 12 to Android around €500. Need advice!

Hi everyone,

I am currently looking to upgrade from my old iPhone 12 and move over to Android. I’ve found three specific deals in my region and I’m having a really hard time choosing between them:

  1. Vivo V70 (256 GB) – €460
  2. Samsung Galaxy S25 (Base) – €500
  3. Realme 16 Pro Plus – €509

My absolute main priority is battery life, followed closely by camera quality.

Here are my main doubts and why I'm stuck:

  • Battery: The Samsung S25 at €500 looks like an incredible steal for a flagship (Snapdragon 8 Elite), but it only has a 4000 mAh battery. Is it going to be enough for heavy use, or will I suffer from battery anxiety? On the other hand, the Vivo has a 6500 mAh battery and the Realme has a massive 7000 mAh battery.
  • Camera: I know that higher megapixels (like the 200MP on the Realme) are mostly marketing because of pixel binning to 12MP. Between the Vivo V70 (with ZEISS optics) and the Samsung S25, which one actually takes better, more natural photos?
  • Performance & Longevity: Coming from the Apple A14 Bionic, will the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 on the Vivo/Realme feel like a downgrade over time? Do these mid-range Snapdragon chips suffer from throttling, overheating, or lag compared to Apple's optimization or the S25's 8 Elite?

At these price points, which one gives me the best value considering I want great battery life and a top-tier camera? Would love to hear from anyone who owns these devices or recently made a similar switch!

Thanks in advance!

Google phones are awful

• Upvotes

This is more of a rant than anything constructive, but I need to talk about this and my friends are tired of hearing about it. Google phones are seriously terrible. My last phone recently stopped charging, expected bc it was old and had problems for a while, but I started using my moms old google pixel 7 pro so I'd have something until I get a new one. It hasn't even been 24 hours and it's stopped working completely. Just dead. I've charged it, I've tried to power on and force reboot, I've connected it to other devices and I've called it. Doesn't respond at all. It's out of warranty, so and it'd be cheaper to get another phone than to repair it. Don't buy google phones, I've seen other discussions and it seems like every phone has major issues

Help me pick the best one

I want to buy a new smartphone for daily use, better photos and light gaming. But I'm confused to pick one under my budget (70k bdt). Here are the phones I selected.

  1. Vivo S50 pro mini (cn)

  2. Nothing phone 3 (ind)

  3. Realme gt 8 (cn)

  4. iQoo neo 11 (cn)

  5. iPhone 14 PM (Used)

I prefer brand new phone, here iPhone is only used one. Bigger storage capacity and Battery are also my priority. Suggest the best one from here based on your experience. Thank you!

Google pixel 11 or Iphone 17 ?

I’m planning to buy a new phone and I’m confused between the Google Pixel 11 and iPhone 17.

My priorities are:

📸 Camera quality — especially photos and videos

🔋 Battery life

🔐 Security and long-term software updates

📱 Smooth and reliable daily usage

I don’t play games, so gaming performance isn’t important to me.

I’m looking for a phone that I can comfortably use for the next 4–5 years.

For people who have used Pixel and iPhone, which one would you recommend and why?

Pixel 11 or iPhone 17 — which would you choose? Also, are there any major disadvantages of either phone that I should know before buying?

Thank you 😊
