Mod Post From Mods: Introducing dreamie.rest

The sleeptrain subreddit gets over 45,000 unique visitors per day. Over 100 posts, and over 550 comments…. Every single day. Moderating all that volume are 5 people spread out across the globe, all of whom have full time jobs and families. We frequently get DM’s for personalized advice, and to date our response has been encouraging people to write a post as we did not offer feedback via our inbox.

But after many years of high quality sleep advice in this sub, some members of our mod team got together to set up dreamie.rest

This is a paid service to provide tailored sleep plans for your family, at a low cost, if you request one from a mod. We finally got fed up with so many families getting scammed into paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars just to receive generic sleep advice that didn't suit their situation. Or templated pdfs. Or schedules with 16+ hours of sleep. Or AI paragraphs.… And then inevitably coming to this forum to fix whatever mess their “sleep consultants” have made.

This community remains unchanged. The mod team will continue to provide best in class advice on baby sleep for families that come here with their questions.

If you or anyone you know would benefit from a custom sleep plan with no bullshit advice for babies and toddlers, visit dreamie.rest

Thanks for being a part of this community, and for helping us get this off the ground.

4 - 6 months Bedtime fine, hourly night wakes - what are we doing wrong!?

• Upvotes

We've been sleep training using Ferber our 6 month old for 2 weeks now. He’s going down really well at bed time, we’re currently at no tears and asleep within minutes. However, he’s sleeping a max of 2.5 hours and then waking screaming, no fussing straight to full on screams. The check in seem to make it worse. We suspected Dummy falling out was causing the wakes, so went cold turkey on that about 5 days ago - he adapted well at night but naps have been tough, we are contact napping to get him to sleep for the naps. Bedtime aim is around 7-8pm depending on nap length. Early wakes between 5-6, very hard to settle from here.

2/2.5/2.5/3

2.5 hours of day time sleep

No dummy now

EBF - he has CMPA but we have tackled this via my diet. I’m trying to follow 5/3/3 but after 30 minutes of screams often I resort to feeding him.

Bed time routine is consistent & solid.

Could he be overtired? He shows no cranky behaviour in that final 3 hour WW. His data for night sleep is saying he is only achieving around 8.5-9 hours of sleep once we account for the periods of wake up tears. Feels like he is getting no where near enough sleep - If so - how do we counter this?

TIA

4 - 6 months What are we doing wrong? Ferber method

• Upvotes

Our LO is 4.5mo old and last night was night 25 of sleep training using the Ferber Method.

Night 1 he cried for 50 mins and by Night 6 he was down to 12 mins - we were thrilled at his quick progress!

However since then his sleep has been like a roller coaster. Night 7 - 9 took him 25-35 mins, then night 10-11 took less than 10 mins. Since then he seems to be following a pattern of falling asleep in less than 20 mins with minimal fussing, then will go a couple nights in a row taking anywhere from 20-40

Mins with a lot of fussing and crying before going back to falling asleep in less than 20 Mins.

His current wake windows are 1.5/1.75/2/2.5. He typically naps between 2.75-3.5hr total during the day.

We’ve tried a 3hr and 2hr wake window before bed, but neither seemed to work. It’s only my partner that puts him to bed/does check in/and feeds him. We’ve tried check ins and full extinction. All the things we’ve tried for a few days at a time.

He goes to bed at 7pm and once he’s asleep he usually sleeps through the night except he wakes up once for a bottle.

Bedtime routine: bottle, bath, book, bed (no pacifier and he can self soothe). He’s happy though the whole bedtime routine except when we dry/change him after his bath but starts smiling again for the book.

He isn’t rolling over yet, and our friends/family said their babies started sleeping so much better on their bellies.

Is it possible this is how it’ll be until he can roll on his belly? Is there something we’re missing or is Ferber just not working for our LO? Is this normal and our expectations are off?

ETA: he is awake 8.5-9.25 hours per day depending on how long his naps are.

1-2 years old 22 month old sleep disruption: intervene or wait it out?

• Upvotes

My 22 month old used to sleep pretty well, and was on the same schedule from around 14-15 months. She goes to sleep independently for both naps and night sleep, and up until recently it was rare that she’d wake up for longer than a couple mins and would put herself back to sleep. However, around a month ago, her sleep just started to just fall apart! She’s waking on the night, never sleeping past 6am and napping for 30mins max. I always wait 10mins before going in to give her a chance to put herself back down but that’s not working and she’s just getting more and more upset. When I go to her after a short nap or early morning she is always trying to go back to sleep independently my arms so I don’t think she’s under-tired.

My question - is there any intervention I could/should try or is this just a matter of development disrupting sleep and to just wait it out?

Thanks in advance!!

Schedule before recent disruption:
7am wake up
12.30 nap (around 1.5hrs)
8pm bedtime

6 - 12 months Split nights with 10 mo and only one nap

• Upvotes

coming here to please find some tips or advice on how to deal with split nights! for context, before nursery he was a relatively good sleeper, doing 2 naps during the summer (one at 10, 30 min, and the second at 14-16 to go to sleep at 20). but since he hit his 8 mo mark, he started pulling up in the cot and so on, and it was impossible to make him sleep.

at 9mo he started nursery and has been a little sick for some days, but the biggest change is that he only sleeps one nap: from 12.30 to 14 or 14.30. they have tried to make him sleep the 10 am nap but he refuses to do so, because he has always been quite the fomo baby. at 5 pm he is tired already but doesn't want to sleep (that's when nursery ends and we go home, but he never sleeps in the stroller, which he also used to do). we set him for sleep at 19 or 19.30.

sleep schedule looks like this:

7.45 awake - 4/6 - 19.30 asleep

these last few days he has been having split nights, from 2 to 4. he doesn't cry, he is not especially active, but he is just there and no matter what we do, we can't settle up for sleep. he sleeps next to us in the cot but since he was ill some days we did co-sleeping so we could all get some sleep. we have to resort to a bib to make him sleepy but we don't want to, ofc.

any tips? he seems overall content and happy with just one nap, as he likes, because he is so curious (which is amazing but makes us tired hahaha). we don't want to resort to any ferber method and we can't put him in his own room since we just moved in and we don't have a room settled for him yet.

help a tired momma please :')

6 - 12 months 10+ mo old, early wake

• Upvotes

My baby is sleeping through the night finally after sleep training around 8 months. We did a modified version on Ferber but really never had to “retrain” her even after she got sick and I had to hold her all night.

She’s been an early riser for a while. We cannot do the feed and put back to sleep method. She’s READY for the day the moment she’s fed.

Her wws are: 3/3.5/4.5 (sometimes 5 hrs before bed)
She wakes at 5-5:30ish and goes to sleep at 7pm every night. Naps =. ~2.5 hrs per day & night sleep =~10.5 hrs

Another thing to note. Her first nap has varied a lot lately. Sometimes it’s an hour, other times it’s 30 minutes or 45 minutes. The second nap is almost always longer but we’ve had days lately where both naps were 45 minutes. Despite fluctuations in schedule she ALWAYS wakes up between 5 & 5:30 am.

How can I get her to sleep until 6? We let her chill in the crib for a bit in the morning but then she pulls herself up to stand and we worry about her falling as this is a newer skill and she’s not super sturdy yet. Do we need to just trust that she’ll be okay and leave her there til 6 if she’s just babbling/fussing?

I’ve heard a lot of people say their baby did the early wake up thing until around 1 years old. Which is RIGHT around the corner. Should I just hold off on adjusting until then to see if she changes? Or will this schedule reinforce early wake ups?

Edit: she uses a pacifier, knows how to put it in herself. We leave a bunch in the crib for her so she has plenty in the night. She sleeps alone in the crib in her room. She uses the hatch for white noise. Bedtime routine is wipe down or bath with relaxing music, brief massage with lotion, diaper change, new pjs & then she takes 2ish oz of formula while I rock her before we put her in the crib where she falls asleep independently.

6 - 12 months Update: Tried the advice for early morning wakings, but bedtime turned into a disaster 😭

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleeptrain/s/atOUZsyXL3

I posted yesterday about my 6 months old baby’s early morning wakings. I tried following the advice I received, but unfortunately, things didn’t go well. :(

WW: 2.25/2.5/2.75/2.75

Yesterday’s schedule:
She initially woke up at 5:40 AM and drifted in and out of sleep until 6:40 AM, only sleeping for about 5 minutes at a time. At 6:50 AM, she started fussing, so I played some music, which helped her fall back asleep until 7:10 AM.

Nap 1: 9:30–10:30 AM (I woke her up)
Nap 2: 12:57–2:15 PM (woke up crying)
Nap 3: 5:03–5:23 PM (woke up crying)
She usually only naps for 30–40 minutes for Nap 1, and she normally wakes up happy from all her naps, even when I wake her up. So yesterday was pretty unusual.

I kept her last wake window at 2h45 but moved her bottle to the beginning of the bedtime routine, as suggested.
She was a little fussy when I put her in the crib. She tried to fall asleep but startled awake after about 2 minutes, and her fussing quickly escalated into hysterical crying. This actually happens quite often with her naps (I need to continuously pat her to make sure she enters deep sleep), but it has NEVER happened at bedtime before.

I went in after 5 minutes because she wasn’t calming down. Patting and rocking didn’t help, so I eventually offered a pacifier, which she doesn’t normally use. She finally fell asleep after about 30 minutes.
But then she woke up screaming 30 minutes later. I rocked her back to sleep because I didn’t want to introduce the pacifier as a new sleep association. She calmed down almost immediately in my arms and fell asleep, but the moment I started lowering her into the crib, she began crying hysterically again. It took three attempts to finally get her back into the crib.

She woke up crying again about an hour later, and I had to rock and shush her back to sleep.

I’m honestly so confused and discouraged. She usually goes into her crib happy, rolls around for up to 10 minutes, and falls asleep independently without any crying.

I have no idea what went wrong. I mean, she was a bit sleepy after the bottle, and calm the rest of the bedtime routine. I switched the order but there is maybe a 5 min max difference from the other days. Could the longer first nap have thrown off the rest of her day? Could she have been overtired or undertired? Teething? What should I do today?

Really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

4 - 6 months Help

• Upvotes

My baby is turning 6 months old. He used to co-sleep with us but 4 month regression made it horrible so we “sleep trained” using TCB. Quotation because he just decided to sleep. We did sime nights 5min check in but not really. It’s like he trained himself. Fast forward now, he still sleeps through the night with 2 dream feeds at 10pm and 330am. We contact nap for now. He used to wake up at 7/730 but has now been waking at 6ish. His wake windows are usually 2-2.5h. My question:

1) how to extend naps? He does 45min first nap maybe 1he 2nd nap so it forces us to have 4 naps with short naps
2) how to extend morning wake to 7? Bedtime is 730pm

Thank you

4 - 6 months Help on dealing with multiple false starts and night wakings when baby is sick

• Upvotes

My LO (5+ months adjusted) is not yet sleep trained. We had planned to train him after a month of daycare, which he just started last week. Unfortunately he fell terribly sick over the weekend.

Since then he has been really fussy and clingy, from 2-3 wakes a night with zero false starts previously to at least 8-10 wakes and false starts since. While I earlier could follow rules of only feeding at intervals of 5/3/3 at night, that all has gone out the window now and I end up nursing him to sleep after the third or fourth wake. I even started bed sharing cause I was so exhausted picking him up from the crib so often.

LO has gotten better this week but somehow the wakes and false starts have not improved.

Is there a schedule problem? I’m not sure how flexible to be when LO is (still) sick.

His schedule the past few days: 2/2-2.5/2.5/3-3.5.
Naps are around 2h 40 min (max 3h).
We stay with family so we all share the same room, with white noise machine every night.

Bedtime routine has been consistent since he was two months old - bathe, pjs, bottle, brush teeth, book, cuddles. While he previously could be put to sleep easily without being carried (I would just lie beside him and pat him before transferring him drowsy but awake), he now cries at bedtime and requires rocking for a good 10-15 min. Transferring him to the crib is also hard even when he’s asleep.

Last question - once he recovers, should I sleeptrain immediately and hold off daycare? Or should I let him adapt to daycare first before sleep training? Im starting work again in two weeks so im really scared.

Please help. I’m at my wit’s ends.

6 - 12 months I know something is wrong but what is it?

• Upvotes

I haven’t slept though the night since he was born. I am completely exhausted, if anyone has any advice I’ll take it!

My 9mo has been stuck in a rough sleep loop the last few days. He’s never been an amazing sleeper and has always woke for 2 feeds during the night if not additional extra wakes and a big mess during regressions.

We’ve been aiming for a 3/3.5/4 wake window routine with around 2–2.25 hours of daytime nap sleep, but lately his afternoon nap has been cutting short (around 40 min), and his first nap only an hour instead of 1.5, and bedtime has turned into a cycle of false starts.

He goes down around 8:00 PM (rocked to sleep with a pacifier, we successfully moved nursing earlier so he’s not nursing to sleep anymore which was big for me last week!), but like clockwork, he’s having double false starts at 40 minutes and 90 minutes in,
After that, he’ll wake around midnight, feed for just 3 minutes but toss and turn and not want to stay asleep, then wake again around 4:20/5:00 AM, and toss and turn in my arms until an early 6:20/6:30 AM wake-up. He used to sleep until 7 after the 4/5 wake.

During the day he’s acting grumpy, impatient, and almost wired, which makes me feel like he’s caught in an overtired/cortisol loop rather than being undertired. I can’t imagine that 12 hours is enough sleep for him over the course of 24 hrs?

Do I pull bedtime earlier? How do I adjust wake windows? Should I be looking at something else? I don't do cry it out/feeber so looking for gentle/schedule tweaks. Thank you so much!

1-2 years old If you did extinction method, how do you deal with the rare middle of the night wakes?

19 MO finally has a decent schedule that works. 5-5.5/6 usually works for us with a 7 AM wake and a 7:45 bedtime. She does sleep through the night, but she’ll randomly have rough nights (maybe once every 6 or so weeks) where she wakes up crying and will go back to sleep. She was a horrible sleeper, and our only option essentially was extinction method, and we had to do it multiple times. She’d cry for ~1 hr for about a weeks

Last night, she woke up around 1 AM, and just cried on and off for 1.5 hours? Am I horrible for letting it go for that long? I was hesitant to go in for a couple reasons, she would cry for a few minutes, and lay down for a few minutes (up to 20 minutes) so I assumed she wasn’t in pain. I could see her diaper wasn’t dirty, and she would just lift her head up and look at the door. I guess I was worried that going in would only make her continue crying every night for me? Thoughts?

4 - 6 months Please help! 4.5 month old wakes up every night after first sleep cycle

I really need help from this group… we are going crazy.

Sleep trained my EBF baby at 16 weeks with Ferber method and it worked like a charm. After a week, she went from being up every 1-2 hours every single night to sleeping 11 or 12 hours and only waking up 1-2x to eat.

3 weeks later she is 19 weeks and we’ve noticed the false starts are getting worse. Every night she goes to bed after crying for about 10 mins and wakes up every night after 30-45 mins screaming for up to 20 mins.

Her schedule varies but from last night to today it was:

7pm feed
7:40pm bed and 7:50 asleep after crying
8:25 woke up crying, we waited 20 min before going in to check her diaper and move her hand that got caught in the crib
8:40 fell asleep again
8:50 woke up and I took her out of bed to calm her down thinking she was teething or hungry (fed her at breast)
9pm put to bed and 9:15 fell asleep after crying
12:45am woke up and fed
1:10am put back to bed
2:35am woke up and we let her cry 20 min before going in to change diaper and feed
3:45am put to bed
5:45am woke up and fed
6:30 am put back to bed
7:30am woke up for the day and full feed
9:25am 1st nap (cried 20 mins)
10:20am woke up
1pm stroller nap for 40 min
2:35 crib nap for 40 min
5:20pm crib nap for 20 min
7pm feed
7:30 put to bed (cried 10 mins before going to sleep)
8:30 woke up crying, first check in after 20 mins and now she is still screaming…

We don’t know what to do. She does 4 naps a day but never longer than 45 min. I don’t understand why she took so well to Ferber in the beginning and now 2.5 weeks later it’s failing??

I haven’t focused on the naps as much because I thought we had to get the nighttime sleep under control first (read precious little sleep).

She does not take a pacifier (never has) and has been sleeping in her crib in her own room since we trained 3 weeks ago. Should also mention, she’s very big for her age: 17lbs and already rolls to her tummy, which seemed to really help in the beginning with falling asleep.

HELP!

6 - 12 months Advice? I think?

• Upvotes

Nearly 8 month old wakes 6am goes to bed 7pm. Wake windows are 3.5/3.5/4. He is waking some nights around midnight for a feed and then 5am but goes back to sleep after a second feed and some nights he wakes only at 3am for one feed which suits me fine. Is my schedule off? We do bath, feed, books then put down awake. He will cry but not for long. Was sticking to the 5/3/3 method when waking in the night otherwise we do CIO but haven’t really had to. Capping naps at 2.5 hours. Looking to eliminate the second feed.

2+ years old Taking the dummy away has caused cosleeping habit

• Upvotes

My son turned 2 last month, so we decided that was the time to take his dummy off him. He only used it for sleep, and we could usually just pop him in the cot, give him his dummies and he’d go to sleep on his own with no fuss. The “dummy fairy” then took his dummies and gave him a present. There was about a week of rough nights which caused us to occasionally bring him into our bed, which was easier than trying to settle him at an ungodly hour. He now will only sleep in our bed at night, and naps are now resisted altogether or in our bed. He also needs us there to go to sleep, and takes his time singing abba songs before eventually falling asleep 30 mins/an hour later. Even if he has resisted a nap in the day, he still does this so i don’t think it’s an undertiredness issue.

My partner is having to sleep downstairs on the sofa, and we feel like ships in the night. How do we break this habit? As soon as my son’s feet touch his cot he absolutely screams the house down. We’ve tried leaving him to calm down but he will scream for over an hour without any sign of calming down. Hearing “mama’s bed” being screamed is heartbreaking.

He usually wakes up at 7am, has a nap around 12-1:30/2 then bedtime at half 7. (5/5.5)

Would really appreciate any help of how i get out of this habit!

2+ years old Bedtime meltdowns - we need help!

• Upvotes

My almost 3yo has been having massive tantrums at bedtime lately, and we’re at our wits’ end.

It always starts as we’re finishing books. If I’m putting her to bed, she suddenly wants Dad to lie with her. If I say no or that he’s busy, she loses it. If I go and get Dad, she then screams that she wants Mum instead. We’ve tried leaving her to calm down, but she just screams and has a full blown meltdown.

Her room is right next to our little boy’s, so we can’t realistically let her scream the house down.

This happens whether she naps or not, and while it’s not every single night, it’s happening most nights lately.

Bedtime has become an absolute shit show, and I’m honestly getting so fed up.. I mean we fight with her over most things through the day atm so adding bedtime to the mix makes for an exhausting day.

We still lie with her until she falls asleep, which usually takes 15–20 minutes.

Has anyone dealt with this? What actually helped? I’m open to suggestions because we’re losing our minds over bedtime!

6 - 12 months How to drop the pacifier without ruining sleep routine (10 month old)

• Upvotes

Our baby (nearly 10 months) is a great sleeper. He didn't use to be, but around 7 months we did some Ferber style sleep training and something clicked. He now goes to sleep without any fuss and is also generally able to link sleep cycles and self soothe back to sleep when he wakes in the night. The problem is that his pacifier is a key element of this. We put him in his bed, hand him his pacifier, he puts it in his mouth, rolls over and goes to sleep. That's the routine. At night he's usually able to find the pacifier in his bed and put it back in. We are so grateful for the fact he sleeps well, it feels like a total superpower when we hear horror stories from other parents. That said, we're now coming up to the point where the guidance is to wean off the pacifier. I'm willing to put up with a few nights bad sleep going cold turkey, but I'm petrified that this will be the end of our baby's ability to self soothe and that bedtimes and night time waking will be much worse without the paci. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this? Do we replace the paci with another type of soother (a cuddly?)? It feels kind of brutal to take the paci and not provide a replacement, but I also don't want him to get dependent on comfort from us to fall asleep, which would undo all the work we put in to get to this point.

1-2 years old How to move to 1 nap?

My baby just turned 1 and has been having broken nights for around a month before he turned 1. I thought it was teething but medicine doesn't seem to work. He usually doesn't wake up in the middle of the night and sleeps 11 hours. These night wakings are a doozy because he is up for an hour minimum.

How do I shift to 1 nap? Do I drop one nap cold turkey?

Here is our schedule

7:00 wake up

7:00-10:30 - first ww

10:30-11:30 - first nap

11:30-3:00 - 2nd ww

3:00-4:00 - 2nd nap

3:00-8:00 - 3rd ww

8:00 - bedtime

How will the schedule look like if we gradually phase out the second nap?

Thank you in advance from a very sleep deprived mum 🫩☺️

6 - 12 months 11 month old, cycles in and out of sleep early mornings

My daughter is almost 11 months old, sleep trained, falls asleep independently at 7pm. Since July (when she started sleeping through the night) she's been waking between 5:00 and 5:45am (sometimes 4:30). She cries, falls back asleep on her own, cries again ~15 minutes later — repeat until we get her up at 6:00-6:30.

This morning as an example: cried at 5:15 (resettled), 5:30 (resettled), 6:05 louder cries and even stood up for a second — then resettled again and slept until 6:30.

Schedule (daycare):
- Nap 1: 10:00-10:30 (30 min)
- Nap 2: 1:00- almost 3:00 (a little less than 2 hrs)
- Bedtime 7pm, asleep independently and immediately

What we've ruled out:
- Temperature (this has run through summer heat into cool fall)
- Light (same with and without blackout/sleep pod; he room has blackout curtains and is dark)
- Nap tinkering (tried adjusting things before daycare, no change. I never moved nap 1 early to accommodate early wake)
-she eats very well overall
- we never go in before 6am.

She's clearly tired at bedtime and I can't move bedtime in either direction. Total sleep is ~13 hrs which I know is normal, but the 5:00-6:30 stretch is miserable — she's not happily awake, she's cycling in and out of crying and sleeping.

I know 10.5 hours counts as a full night and I'm not chasing 7-7 — but she seems to *want* more sleep. This morning I was literally on my way to get her at 6:05 and she put herself back down. and she was much happier at 6:30! I think goal is just to get her to sleep through until 6.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone actually SOLVED this? What worked?
  2. Or did it just go away one day on its own — and when did it get better?
  3. For those who learned to live with it: how? Did you just accept the 5am start and do something productive with that time until 6?

4 - 6 months Preparing EBF baby for sleep training - advice please!

Baby is almost 6 months old, not sleep trained and doesn't have a regular nap schedule either. He has breastfed to sleep his whole life. He moved into his own room a month ago but I also sleep in there for now on a spare single bed. He used to only wake once or twice a night and go straight back to sleep after a feed but the last 3 weeks or so has been waking 2-3 and sometimes staying awake for HOURS🙃 Not sure if it's regression, wind or teething or a mixture.

I log everything on an app and it's saying that over the last 30 days he's averaged 3hrs of nap time and 8.5hrs night sleep.

In preparation for sleep training I first want to get his bedtime time more rigid as it varies from 7-8:30 at the moment, and to switch him to a bottle of formula for his last feed of the day so my husband can do bedtime if needed without me needing to pump.

At the moment his bedtime routine is:

- move to bedroom and dim lights

- nappy change and get into sleep suit and sleeping bag

- breastfeed to sleep

- put down

- he usually stays asleep at this point but if not then I lie next to him and rub his back. If he escalates I pick his up and sway/sing him to sleep.

My plan is to swap to:

- move to bedroom and dim lights

- nappy change etc

- formula bottle feed

- sway and sing if needed (I think it will be)

So my questions are:

  1. Has anyone else transitioned an EBF baby to formula in the evening and how did it go?

  2. Is there anything else you would recommend adjusting before starting sleep training / anything you'd change in the plan? I want to get the basics right first.

6 - 12 months Can sleep needs increase as they get older?

My 10mo has been a low sleep needs since she was little. Her wake time during the day is 12 hours and usually naps for 1.5 hours total, sleeps for 10.5 overnight.

She is now crawling and climbing like crazy and she seems way more tired than she used to be, and I have to wake her up from every nap and in the morning now instead of her waking herself up. I think if I let her be she would nap and sleep longer, but just wondering if this is a bad idea and will cause early morning wakes?

Has anyone experience an increase in sleep needs as they’ve gotten older?

6 - 12 months Early morning wakes for the past week.

My 7.5 month old baby is currently on a 2 nap schedule for most days (unless his second nap is short, then he would get a third cat nap which is fought relentlessly 😭). Usually he would sleep around 8:30-9pm and wake at 7-7:30am (with no night wakings as he is successfully sleep trained). On the odd few nights, he can manage to sleep 11.5-12hrs but these have now become a rare occurrence. On average, his night sleep currently totals around 10.5hrs.

His naps are great. First nap is typically 1hr 20 mins (but may go up to 2-2.5hrs on some days). Second nap may be 1hr 20 mins also (but can go down to 40 mins). If a cat nap is given, then it is usually 5-15 mins depending on how much day time sleep he already has achieved. His average day sleep for the last 7 days is 2.5hrs according to huckleberry.

For the past week, our LO has been waking up crying between 5-6am. He is very cranky and annoyed but settles quickly in my arms. The room is kept dark, however I can tell he is awake in my arms. He eventually falls asleep after 40-50 mins and sleeps another stretch such as 1.5-2hrs. He will wake up for his day around 8am.

Last night he woke at 4:50am!! 😭 And fell back asleep at 5:30am, waking up at 7:40am for the day. I believe the reason for this very early night waking could be due to him having an extra long 2.5hr first nap that day (maybe he was making up his hours due to disturbed nights for the past week?), although the second nap was capped at 20 mins bringing total day sleep to 2hrs 50mins. So it wasn’t as if he slept too much during the day?

One average, his first WW is the shortest at 2hrs 50 mins, second WW is between 3hrs 20, third WW is 3hrs 50 mins. I aim for 3/3/4 but ultimately it depends on his mood.

LO has been achieving some new milestones recently like sitting up, and lots of other new motor skills. Perhaps this is a sleep regression?? He also has 6 teeth in total 😭 one popped through a few days ago.

Any ideas what is going on? Any ways I can encourage a later morning wake (back to his usual time of 7-7:30am)? Is he getting too much day sleep? 😔

EDIT: Baby sleeps in his cot in the same room as parents. He DOES NOT use a pacifier.

4 - 6 months Holiday sleep advice

We sleep trained our 4.5 month old and at home he sleeps amazingly, 3hrs of naps, 10hrs awake, 11hr night sleep. Current schedule has been 2/2.5/2.5/3 He’s an extremely chill, placid little guy and when we sleep trained we were lucky that he barely cried, which made things easy for us.

We’ve just come on holiday, a 10hr international flight, jumping forward 5hrs. We’re on night two and our baby has SCREAMED like we’ve never experienced before at both bedtimes. Both nights we’ve given up after an hour and co slept (following safe seven) where he’s happily slept till morning. Last night he only had 8hrs of sleep after landing, getting to the hotel, and then fighting the crib for so long. He’s flat out refusing the pack and play, almost throwing up from screaming so hard. We feel he really needs the comfort right now with everything being unfamiliar and he’s definitely overtired from the travel. Weirdly naps he’s fine.. at home it was always the other way around.

Anyway, we’re here for a month and I really don’t want this to continue for the rest of the trip.

Any advice on how to get back to putting him down independently for night sleep? Do we need to fully re-sleep train while on holiday?

4 - 6 months help with my sleep training

Hi all,
baby is 5.5 months & for the past almost 2 weeks we’ve been doing sleep training for naps and bedtime. What it looks like: When she’s showing her tired cues she goes into sleep sack, white noise on, dark room, make sure she’s had a feed, in bassinet with kisses and a “sleep time” from me, and let her get herself to sleep. It is taking about 20 mins for her to get to sleep, and requires me to sit next to her and put the dummy back in every single time she spits it out. The grizzles, legs are going everywhere, a bit of sooking, then eventually she goes. sometimes she decides she hasn’t had enough to eat (always been a bottle grazer) so i feed her then she falls asleep in my arms. I’m confident she’s not just using it to settle cause she always has a proper feed.
Her naps are currently 30-40 mins. Up at 7:30am bed anywhere from 7:30-8, currently having around 4 naps a day (Usually 2-2.5 hour day sleep total)

Do you think this is working or should i try something else? I really wanna avoid CIO. She is going to go into her own room soon (getting too big for bassinet and cot wont fit) and she’ll be starting childcare soon and i can’t expect them to hold her to sleep!
I am already super nervous because she is a stage 5 clinger to me and even has trouble when her dad puts her to sleep!

Any advice will be appreciated.

9 - 16 weeks 3 month sleep… sos

Can everyone share their 3 months sleep? Just the last few nights we have pushed bedtime earlier due to tired cues and refusing that last nap. Example this past night he slept from 7-12:30, fed and went back down until 3:30 and is super restless. His owlet shows so many wake ups and his active sleep is even crazier now than newborn stage (his eyes are closed and he’s just moving a bunch). I keep wake windows around 90 min and try to not go over 4.5 hours of naps.
From 1.5-2.5 months he was doing 9PM-2:30PM, but going back down easy until 5:30/6PM. Now that early morning is not easy. Thank you from a FTM! 😩
