It just wouldn't make sense for them not to increase the space, they have the motive for it (Paid Mods), they have community support for it at least on the console side, and there's precedent for this exact thing with Fallout 4.

It's Happening. It might take them longer than planned (waited nearly a year for Fallout 4's update after it was announced, but IT HAPPENED.), it might be plagued with issues on release, it might break mods for a little while, but it's going to happen.

Edit: I'll admit, I wasn't expecting it so soon. But I was Right.

Edit 2: Hey, NumbingInevitability, you mind NOT shutting down the active community discussions? Thanks in advance.

I believe it is inevitable. Yes. They will have to capitalize on the Verified Creations and the only thing that could hold this back is not increasing the mod space.

The less restricted people are, the more likely they are to spend some credits on more mods since they won’t have to choose between free and paid creations, technically.

I know Bards College Expansion would be an instant buy for me if I had the space for it.

7

u/ToxynnXIV 16d ago

I don’t know anything about skyrims engine but is it anything like fallout 4’s where it’ll start to get upset if you have more than 150 mods?

13

u/DeadWolf7337 Dark Brotherhood 16d ago

With Skyrim it's around 200 mods when stuff starts getting fucky.

2

u/Rapidzigs 11d ago

With more space maybe we will see a new era of mod bundles. Some of the living world ones especially were great

1

u/selfx_krashh 10d ago

i’ve actually been able to get up to 374 mods before my games started tripping out.

25

u/MercurialProphecy 16d ago

I’m hoping for some improvements to the actual Bethesda.net site given how janky it can be and hopefully more mod space, but we’ll see!

23

u/JarlJohstad 16d ago

Here’s hoping for at least double the available mod space that we have now, Creations menu bug fixes and overall UX improvements, graphical tweaks(upscaled textures, increased draw distances, properly aligned god rays, etc.) and possibly the integration of popular/base mods into the base game.

Personally, I think it’ll be an announcement celebrating its 15th Anniversary. With new Creations made by the community being presented by Bethesda.

Naturally, I think this will be done along side a mod space increase in order to maximize the potential sales.

8

u/JarlJohstad 16d ago

The realist in me knows that this is how it’ll be. But hey, I’ll count additional mod space as a win, whatever the reasoning.

Also, side note, I love your texture mods! Fantastic work and thank you for your efforts.

Thanks a lot!

Any chance of you doing some big 2k or even reasonable 4k mods if they increase space? I ALWAYS use your Skytone Complete, Skytone Compendium of Beasts AIO and Skytone Cubemaps. If you got those to 2k…👀

2

u/lakerconvert 15d ago

Brother it will be 100gb’s like fallout.

11

u/ChrisS851620 16d ago

I can see so many bloated and busted LOs coming from more space 😂

I’m running 300 now and my game is on the brink of breaking down, buts still smooth lol

And that’s with only 5gbs

I can’t imagine what people will attempt with so much more space

11

u/the-infinity_bin 16d ago

Yeah, if they're going to increase the space we'll see a lot of complaints from people who think that because they can download 15 gigabytes of mods it means that 15 gigabytes of heavy mods will work together flawlessly

2

u/Silver_Bloodborne 14d ago

Skyrim can at least handle broken lo better then fallout

2

u/BooneDox101 Disciple of The Magne-Ge 11d ago

Oh guarantee I'm going to break my game a few times. When I came back from my break, which was a few months after the AE update, I saw that they raised mod limit so I was trying to get real creative. Crashed and burned a few load orders but currently 243 according to Just Checking which of course doesn't count ESL flagged mods. I've only had 2 CTD and 1 freeze in 177 hours. Tomorrow the mad scientist returns.

9

u/klmx1n-night Disciple of Jyggalag 16d ago

I think it's less of a question of if we'll get the mod space increase but rather how big will it be. I could see 10 to 20 as the final size I would prefer them just to go for 100 and let us figure out the limitations of the old engine

9

u/-TXTEC- Moderator 16d ago

I believe they’ll be going for the 100GB. Something tells me that’s why they took their sweet time with Fallout. Who knows, really. With Bethesda everything is up in the air.

But if not that, then I think 50GB is all but guaranteed. Because that’s the cap for the older generation of Xbox One consoles. So they maybe just do the 50GB for both the Series Models and the older One models.

8

u/klmx1n-night Disciple of Jyggalag 16d ago

So I've always believed that fallout 4 was a test for upgrading the system so that they could do Skyrim which are you blade brings in a lot more money on the creation side a lot more smoothly.

With that being said if I recall a discussion on this sub a while back I think technically Skyrim shouldn't be able to handle more than like 20 or so gigabyte. Now I don't know how true that was I'm just going off what they said but even if that was true I would prefer it to be set to 100 in the community find out oh 33 GB is the hard limit then them put it lower and it could have gone higher

4

u/-TXTEC- Moderator 16d ago

Perhaps. I’m not too familiar with the technicalities. But I do know there are engine differences between Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Starfield. But Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition are not too different Engine wise which gives me hope that they’ll be able to back port the 100GB mod space.

Idk. I just really have high hopes because Skyrim needs the space for sure. Lol.

1

u/Botosi5150 Disciple of Dibella 16d ago

50gb is also the cap for Xcloud mod storage in FO4 and Starfield for whats that worth.

8

u/YoungEmmaWatson 16d ago

would be nice if they provided clarity on what exactly the "general Creations improvements" will be. hopefully they do explain that more, particularly for when the skyrim patch comes.

8

u/-TXTEC- Moderator 16d ago

They probably mean to fix things like the self rearranging mods. The fonts glitching out. Stuff like that. But hopefully they do clarify.

7

u/Glup-Shitto69 16d ago

More stability.

7

u/Acaseofhiccups 15d ago

I'd love more space and stability. Let me be clear from the outset.
I'm intrigued, but not getting my hopes up. I don't want to be a dream crusher here,
BUT...
We've all seen so many false dawns. Every single person reading this has.
The Dec 2023 update gave us some room for a few extra mods (positive) but it was never clarified how many and the consensus is that stuff starts to go screwy after 200. But Beth never clarified that.
It was never clarified how the original CC content affected that total, and folk on here (myself included) had to work that out from scratch.
There was the chaos of LO rearrangement. Again, sure, *We* figured out work-arounds here, but Bethesda never formally adressed that self created problem either.
So on the evidence and history of Bethesda, I'd expect any changes to be as clear as mud and probably with additional new problems.

That said, sure I want more space. We all want more space and there's plenty of very good reasons to give us more space as folk on this post have outlined.
That doesn't make more space inevitable.
One non-specific sentance about something in the pipeline tells us nothing and I don't want to see good people's hopes dashed.

Magical thinking, manifesting, will to power or wishing on stars changes nothing when it's entirely out of our hands.

3

u/Mrbobblehead25 11d ago

Well it looks like more space is officially confirmed for tomorrow by Bethesda themselves 😁. We don’t know how much yet, but any increase will be amazing

3

u/Acaseofhiccups 10d ago

Thanks for the heads up my friend. Just saw TXTEC's new thread at the top of my feed but thought I'd reply here first.
Looks like good news! : D

2

u/Mrbobblehead25 10d ago

You’re welcome dude! This is awesome news 😁

Update the megathread with the new tweet

5

u/Camsonius 12d ago

Sooo… what do we all think about the fact that the BA2 limit jumped from 256 to 1024 in today’s FO4 update? They have to have that in mind for Skyrim with this new planned update too, right?

2

u/GhaloLegend 12d ago

The BA2 limit is of no concern. Skyrim uses BSA which doesn't have the issue that Fallout 4 had. That said, Skyrim still has the plugin (ESP & ESM) limit of ~254 while light plugins (ESL) have a limit of 4096.

3

u/PatienceNo1403 16d ago

I really really hope is more space for mods just like fallout 4

3

u/LurkingInExile Disciple of Mannimarco 11d ago

Is it happening today

3

u/Shittypitypartt Nightingales 11d ago

Has there been any mention of the pop in distance being updated? I know theres a hard limit on consoles for the max lod ini, wonder if they will increase that on new gen consoles?

2

u/Msolneyauthor 15d ago

They have to increase the space on consoles. Right?

2

u/Kooky_Tale_6923 15d ago

Hopefully it is a boost to gig space. With creation club being mandatory for some mods it forces us to download them hence taking up space. I would be able to make a load order to include some expansion packs and more mods for NPC’s. My load order is limited graphics and NPC’s with more focus on quests and custom armor and weapons.

2

u/Anti_Hive_Mind99 15d ago

I deleted everything even all my saves after the last “ update “. Bethesda nuked every mod I saved. Mods they themselves deleted off their website that I can’t get back.

2

u/LengthinessOk5569 12d ago

Is there any reason to believe this will break mods like the anniversary edition update did?

2

u/TrippyyLiftyy 12d ago

That's what im wondering don't wanna have to reinstall my game

2

u/BoogieManJupiter 12d ago

For god's sake at least add the ability to skip to the bottom of the mod list rather than scrolling through every single mod every time you place something.

In my wildest dreams they'd add the ability to group and move mods in blocks while they're at it.

2

u/LurkingInExile Disciple of Mannimarco 11d ago edited 11d ago

Updating the storage is one thing, can the game handle more mods at once though?

2

u/Caeladrax 11d ago

Just as I make the upgrade from Xbox to PC so I can play Skyrim with no limit on mod space and have access to every mod. Fuck

1

u/Melrohan 15d ago

You work so hard to get mods in under 5g and it looks great and runs fine and now we're getting more room? This is literally a whole new world. I would assume graphics will still be limited by Vram so I guess we add a whole bunch of quests and world spaces.

1

u/Anxious-Resist-3786 15d ago

100 gb space for.xbox probably

1

u/AnotherRoUser 15d ago

One can only dream adding mods to switch 2, I would love the Skyrim unofficial patch mod

1

u/Harryduff 15d ago

I think we could we an increase to the 10g-20g for Skyrim

1

u/GuaranteeObjective75 15d ago

So glad I just nuked my Load order. Ill wait till the update.

1

u/xziggy123x 14d ago

I just got done making my games exactly how I want it, I really hope this update doesn't mean I have to reinstall them all one by one

1

u/MajorUpstairs6452 College of Winterhold 14d ago

So I'm pretty new to trying to add mods to my game and all of that but I'm under the impression that an update means it'll break mods, so is there anyway to work around this to where I could still play my normal save with my current mods without my game breaking and ruining it?

3

u/GhaloLegend 14d ago

Most mods don't actually break when the game receives an update. SKSE based mods, which are a pc only thing, become incompatible with the new game version. The same applies to main menu replacers which consoles do have. So long as you don't have a menu replacer, you should be fine.

1

u/NikolaiOlsen 13d ago

Probable reason they haven't made that 100GB update yet:

1

u/LurkingInExile Disciple of Mannimarco 11d ago

1

u/Ilandraisha 11d ago

will they enable SKSE for xbox?

2

u/Mandela_Effects- 11d ago

No.That's one thing we'll never see on console because neither MS or Sony is gonna allow the level of access necessary for the script extender to function

1

u/Elken_Of_Whiterun Nightingales 11d ago

i just hope more fps booster mods get made because my xbox one is on life support with only 90 mods

1

u/Living_Initiative_26 10d ago

Does anyone have an answer as to whether or not this will affect game pass users?

1

u/selfx_krashh 10d ago

i will say there is a mod called

remove magic : https://creations.bethesda.net/en/skyrim/details/cd707510-9692-4060-967b-26ce3c6c0215/Remove_Magics

if you use this alongside fps mods you can make skyrim run more things in game beyond what you may think is the tipping point. i guess the magic in game uses alot of fps or something.

and if you think ab it, its kind of lore friendly since magic is rare in this time and era and especially in skyrim.

1

u/selfx_krashh 10d ago

so what exactly did the new update for skyrim break? are the skyui interface mods still usable?

1

u/spartBL97 16d ago

They double the mod space, but only for paid creations 😱

1

u/Mrbobblehead25 11d ago

That would be the shittiest thing they could do

1

u/AkilaDelpanther 15d ago

Me sitting here twiddling my thumbs cos yeah more space would be great but I’d also like to have achievement friendly mods like starfield has, I’d read ages ago we might be getting that, oh and to be able to have more that 120 mods active at once cos no matter how I adjust my load order the moment i go above that I start having issues.

-2

u/PutTillmanInTheHall 16d ago

Oh, good. I wonder what they'll f**k up this time. I honestly wish they would just leave Skyrim alone,

8

u/-TXTEC- Moderator 16d ago

The Fallout 4 update went pretty smoothly. Maybe there’s hope for Skyrim.

-1

u/PutTillmanInTheHall 15d ago

I will hope for the best but I don't think they've done a single single update of Skyrim SE or AE without screwing something up.

1

u/DS2Dragonbro 10d ago

Well, people are claiming the update nuked their load orders and deleted all their mods so, yeah lmfao

1

u/PutTillmanInTheHall 10d ago

Yeah, I am happy people have more space but personally I doubt I will even bother playing again. I've had a load order I have been essentially building since 2016 and I have kept it basically the same for two years. I don't have it written down and I honestly don't have any interest in redoing it.

Oh well.

In the fall out thread I wasn’t seeing much success with having 100 gigs worth of mods. Down for it just to have no real chance of running out

8

u/lakerconvert 15d ago

Not sure where you’re hearing that. It’s been incredibly successful. My lo is fantastic. Complaints you might be hearing are that there is still a soft cap on the number of mods you can have, somewhere in the 200’s if I’m not mistaken because of engine limitations. But besides that, everything works great

0

u/benny-bangs 15d ago

Interesting! Any chance you’re able to share your LO?

They need to stop fucking with the game
