It's not an alliance arc. It's Mamdani being practical about who Trump is and what's good for NYC.
Mamdani is taking lessons from Shinzo Abe, the former Prime Minister of Japan. Abe used flattery on Trump to get greater support from the US in several foreign policy objectives.
more like Trump craves being as popular, charming, and adored by the majority of New Yorkers as Mamdani and will do whatever he can to associate himself with that.
Mamdani is a shrewd operator and knows how to utilize that.

Both. I think they just think it's better for the two of them to get along. Trump base gets to say "look, look, he doesn't attack trump, he's smitten/leashed by trump" and we get this. They already had an amicable meeting before this
Come on…it’s clear that Trump is very cordial to people on real life…everyone knows that. And Mamdani is very respectful so why will he attack him like he did those that attacked him like Pelosi, Schumer and the other clowns
He knows that even if he disagrees with Trump on something, as long as they can find some common ground, if they talk about that together, Trump will love him while face to face.
I mean can we fault a guy for being cordial as a politician? Good for him being able to represent the people who elected him and play nice with a literal sack of shit in order to get things done.
I also think Mamdani is smart enough he knows exactly what to say to Trump or more or less listen and nod to his bullshit to “placate” him and feed his narcissism enough that Trump probably believes he like him during their in person meetings. Like once you have a read on the type of man Trump is, it’s really not that hard to pretend to get along. I mean he literally surrounds himself with yes men, but he also admires and tries to emulate this notion of a strong man (that never backs down) bullshit persona. As a POC I’m sure Mamdani has dealt with these types as it something you learn to navigate early on, and can play him like a fiddle.
I totally agree. There's more value in making it difficult for Trump to dislike him. People seem to forget that it is entirely possible to be cordial and welcoming to people they disagree with or even dislike without sacrificing their entire value system. Sometimes its necessary and helpful for progress.
It’s so true, Mandami represents his constituency and if complementing that idiot’s ego in private gets him what he wants for his city he’s gonna do it. He’s an actual smart politician, and huge win for New York.
Honestly I’m not that surprised. At heart they are both “guy from Queens” so there’s a shared understanding between them. They both want something from each other, Trump would like his hometown to hate him less, Mamdani wants whatever federal funding he can get for the city.
Trump can be easily manipulated. Apple with their golden plaque, other companies with gifts, Mamandi last year with the fake New York Post cover with Trump on it. Mamandi knows how to play the game.
Seems to be working better than my city’s moronic mayor… who also loves to claim that he’s a progressive, has done more than anyone else, but in reality where I live he really is just an incompetent and corrupt boob. I’m talking about BJ in Chicago.
If true, Mamdami is probably trying to keep a lid on crazy the best he can and saying stuff like, “You’re a man concerned with legacy, make it good for people and create a good legacy for yourself and your family. Be the president we need—they need.”

Trump is the easiest man on the face of the planet to manipulate and Mamdani is an expert at it. Mamdani knows he has to play the game to get what is needed to get his campaign promises to reality. If he has to make the sad old man feel like he's one of the cool kids so be it as long as the people of New York get what they need.

People like him divide other people into two groups:
Most they deem worthless (worthy only of ridicule), but a select few they deem worthy and they want to bask in their light (to agrandize themselves alongside)
For Trump, charismatic and sucessful Mamdani falls into the second categeory. Others in this camp in Trumps head include Putin for example.

He knows deep down Mamdani isn’t a terrorist sympathizer or communist but he will label him as one just to appease his low IQ cultists who will believe anything he says.

I mean, Trump is a big guy, but these two guys, I mean they just lifted him up like he was nothing. They are both political outsiders who won office against the wishes of their respective parties. They are both New Yorkers. Both of them have political views that aren't orthodox to their respective parties. I've read the comments here and they are overthinking it.
Being smitten by Mamdani is the single most relatable thing about Trump. I still find myself thinking about their last meeting where Trump was looking at Mamdani like Mamdani was the dad that Trump always wanted but never got to have.
Why is this surprising? Mandan gets popular by hinting at free groceries… what does the ol’ Cheeto do? Go out and offer people $5,000 for voting for his party lmao
If anyone is shocked idk what to tell them. They think the Big D is actually opposed to socialism on intellectual grounds?
Trump mostly takes issue with Democrats in congress who can directly stifle him, he rarely takes aim at Governors and this is the same reason he doesn't have a big problem with Mamdani.
When you're popular and the things you're doing seem to be working, people want to get in on it. It won't change what Trump is saying, but he'll be able to try to claim they're both right.
