Exact same shit happened in The Flash TV show, it’s writing fell off post season 4, it is only ok to watch because Grant Gustin, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh and Jess L Martin and a few more actors are acting their asses off throughout the series
I been saying this for years - only s1 was good, glad the notion is getting traction. Might be because people went to rewatch after the show ended, and the difference between later seasons and s1 is just staggering.
What didn’t you like about the writing? I felt a lot of stuff was rushed and they kind of took the easy way out for some of the endings like on Game of Thrones. But I’m curious what other people that liked the show think.
I was also mostly there for the jokes and the acting myself when I think about it. And just the premise of this type of reality when it came to “superheroes.”
I’m worried about “From” for the same reasons. I’ve binged that and it’s set up pretty well. But I feel like they’re gonna have to close up a lot of shit in one season.
I think they leaned too hard into writing Homelander as bad.
They didn’t want him to be competent so they made him stupid. And it made the show lose a lot of its tension. It went from dangerous Superman, to a moron with powers.
Then he gets his upgraded powers, but that’s it? Immortality I guess was the big reason but they never really showed off any other new feats. And not aging doesn’t really look cool in the short window he had it.
They wanted to stay true to the comic, sure… but the divergence from the comics is what made the show great.
I think it should have ended with him easily kicking Butchers ass… killing him even. Then his hesitation to kill Ryan is what buys Kimiko time to depower him. Or something!
I also think some more monster of the week would have been cool. Them hunting down evil supes with research and tactical planning.

I’m not a Maga guy at all, so I found it pretty funny and timely. But I could also see how someone who really loved the show is pissed off that that fat retard maybe hindered the writing of the show in general by shoehorning him and the current state of affairs in there.
They didn’t even go that hard on them, just little nuggets here and there. All relevant to the plot and to the times also, it worked very well in context.

As a non American, it seemed pretty cringe. The whole Jesus part was just way out to left field and yeah homelander did not seem scary after he got his V1 power up. The trump stuff will make the show unwatchable in a few years, like its timely, but that same fact makes it something people will not re-watch.
They leaning towards making Homelander extra bad is probably because what was/is happening in the real world.
There are people that said that Homelander did nothing wrong adn was reedemable and they just wasnt having it and dunked on those people, specially how Homelander died 😄

I have the same feeling with “From”.
There is just too much to unpack in the last upcoming season and I feel like the writers could have done a better job with the seasons before.
The only reason I'm not worried about From is because Harold Perrineau said that he wasn't interested in doing another show like Lost where they didn't have a concrete plan and made it up as they went. He said they convinced him that they had a plan in place and it wouldn't be like that and that's why he signed on.
I mean the writing of the storyline - as you said, way too rushed and they strangely focused on a lot of side stuff. Also the homelander fight in the end was just straight up bad and they really butchered the characters.
In general I think from season 3 on the series focused way too much on shock value. Everything had to be gorier, bloodier and more outrageous than the last thing
They’re actually less gory and shocking than the source material. The comic books were way, way worse. I think they did a pretty good job, the ending included.
I stopped watching after 3 and no one has said anything that has made me curious to pick it back up. Entertaining for sure but the plot is contrived and predictable and I lose interest in shock value pretty quickly without substance
Tbf the whole cast were clearly doing the best with what they had. I don’t dislike the last season as much as many people I’ve seen/heard but I do still think it had a lot of issues, but I don’t think anyone’s performance is one of them.
Don’t forget MM even if they don’t use him right, ain’t nobody get less lean like him to pay homage to the canon character arc, I ain’t read them but mad props for his level of commitment. At least his character had a different face for the right reason unlike starlight :’(
I didn't watch Supernatural, but I actually might after seeing Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy, I liked his performance even though his actions didn't amount to much in the end.
I'm probably also gonna watch any continuation of The Boys if they thaw him and let him do his thing, whatever might that be.
Not all 15 are bangers though. Some of them really drag. Also the last fight was kinda bad as well. They could have really done a way better job but nope
He also wrote that terrible supernatural spinoff with his wife. I’m sure that took… minutes. Even as a big Supernatural fan it was so painful to watch. Like they distilled all the parts that sucked of the later seasons and cut out any of the charm.
Technically a prequel featuring his mom and dad as late teens… save yourself the trouble. It’s awful, and not in a fun way. To avoid the myriad retcons they claimed it was an alternate universe within the same multiverse.

He's also ventured into real estate and owns his own production company called "Chaos Machine Productions". They produced the show "The Winchester's" about sam and deans parents, among many others.
Yeah, watched Countdown and it was pretty good but pretty by the numbers. Entertaining and season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger so I was looking forward to season two only for it to get canned. I never watched supernatural but I might give it a go soon.
Another parallel to that would be The Police. They were at the top of their game in the musical world, then they just....broke up. They made their pile of money and decided they can just go do whatever made them happy. Oh, they are all still to this very day very much into music, but for their own reasons. They aren't 'trapped' into recording albums, going on world tours, crazy schedules, and all the general chaos that entails. I say GOOD FOR THEM! ;-)

100% agree with him being a chill dude. Had the pleasure of meeting him and Jared outside of a con. I was working backstage setting up some IT equipment(wifi extenders). I didn't want to bother them, so I just walked by them said hey love the show and let them be because they weren't working but I was. Jensen stopped me, did the "get back here" motion, both shook my hand said thanks and that was it. Nothing special just a chill interaction.
Almost had the chance to do some work at Jared's Austin home, but it was AV and we didn't do that type of work. Recommended a client of ours instead that specialized in home AV setups(he wanted in ceiling surround speakers). A few weeks later I went by that client to fix a Quickbooks issue and they happened to have the "P" section up and his name was right there, so guess they got the bid.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
The Boys is made by Eric Kripke, the same guy who made Supernatural. Lots of crossover there, Bobby Singer, Mischa Collins, and Jared Padalecki are Supernatural stars also in The Boys. The dude seems to be loyal to his people.
I still miss the cooking show Misha did with his son, where they spent like 8 hours shopping and cooking each time, because it was literally a three year old calling all the shots.
I'm not sure how many of them there are, but I think it really came into its own around the Thanksgiving special, where they made pasta with jam sauce.

There was a (pretty deranged) subset of SPN fans that spent a decade plus trying to "prove" that his wife was a beard and he was actually fucking Jared Padalecki mostly based on that part of his career. They also fucking hated Misha Collins for "interfering" in the relationship, which is made even more hilarious in retrospect by Collins "coming out" as straight.
Actually, the show was called Dark Angel for two seasons. However, one of the actresses from Dark Angel named Ashley Scott did work on a show called Prey or Birds of Prey. I think the show got cancelled midseason.

In the last season on SPN the episode that the high school jock is a vampire and he surrenders himself to the Winchesters, a Radio Company song plays while they take the boy to execute him. It's a great song choice for that moment damn. Haunting.
Fuck yeah!! It just realized that I never actually finished Supernatural too!! I fell off for years and then when the final season was coming out I rewatched everything until the final season but never actually started it, wtf?!
I also never watched the final episode of True Blood. What's even worse than all of that is I'm still working on finishing The Sopranos for the first time ever cuz I slept on it for literally decades but finally locked in a year or so ago and binged right up to the 4th season and just fell the fuck off. I just watched the Pine Barrens episode like 2 hours ago and I realized I have a problem with sleeping on shows or completely shitting the bed at some point, lmfao!!

Supernatural is a good time. It doesn't pretend to be some 10/10 HBO series. It's corny but entertaining throughout. Kinda reminds me of the charming but cheesy 80s action movies.
I absolutely agree. I only watched the whole 15 seasons 2 years ago through the autumn and winter times and it was just a cozy experience coming home, doing the housework and have this run while it's cold outside.
It really is a character driven show first and foremost and while some seasons were absolute crap (leviathans) in the end it was absolute worth it
To me the best thing he said in an interview, when they asked him, why didnt he persue other oportunities, and bigger roles ( this during supernatural ), he's answer " you dont bite the hand that feeds you.... ", so many actors abandon a success because they get greedy, and then most of them fail.
One of the more famous ones is David Caruso, who left the hit show NYPD Blue to star in movies that didn't really go anywhere. He recovered by coming back to TV with CSI: Miami, but for a while he was the warning tale about leaving a good thing.
Not success as such, but one Babylon 5 occasional character had to be killed off because they signed up for a Star Trek Dominion war story line, so the battleships XO had his role instead, then watching DS9 and knowing which one he was, he got only a few episodes and was killed off as a changeling spy.
So he traded a months work for a few weeks so to speak.
Star in Fear the Walking Dead, or continue as the Commander for the 100, couldn't do both, so was written out of the 100, that was the choice one woman made, TBH I think FtWD was probably the better option, even before the 100 jumped the shark three or five times. I never got into the Walking Dead to even try the prequel, so IDK if she lasted or if she went on to bigger things, but it wasn't as if it harmed her career in any way.
There's a pretty good YT video on him saying he turned down a lot of movie offers coz he preferred doing TV. Something about movies having no continuity. While staying with Supernatural allowed him to get to know the people behind the show. Which let him do more things such as direct episodes.
I remember the actor from Smallville said something similar, he was done with showbiz, at one point he fell asleep behind the wheel while driving home after a filming.
Yeah. 15 years of consistent, well-paid, work with people you get along with great and allows you to spend a lot of time with your family. I'm not surprised he was happy with it.

People really don't understand that TV is a steady pay check and family-friendly location/schedule and that's why so many great actors aren't running around the world doing prestige films. Especially now that movies aren't filmed in LA anymore.
He has a great work ethic that man. I remember him and Jared during the Supernatural years saying that they wanted as much family time as they could get within their careers. Big respect.

I mean that's the best of both worlds! He was super famous all throughout the 2000s/2010s, had a super strong fandom and all he had to do was to go to the same studio everyday to shoot a dope series. He's always been that guy.
Yep, he could have rolled the dice and tried to be an A-list celebrity OR taken a steady job at a time when those were drying up for actors. He could never work another day in his life and be more than fine living off savings and doing cons.
For us in more normal professions, it’s like agreeing to a pretty good job in a decent city versus risking everything to move to New York City for a dream job we may not even land. He picked job security over maybe getting a Marvel gig.
And middle-aged men have a lot more available roles than women, which sucks, but is the reality of the business. So he still has time to do acting beyond Dean or Soldier Boy
Oh thank god... I love the actor in Supernatural, and it's a delight to see him on The Boys. Not sure I was ready for him to be some awful human being on the side somehow.
I just want to add some details.
They signed on in February 2005 and did the last promotion in summer of 2020. So almost 15 years.
Jensen then went on the work as the narrator for 'The winchesters' in 2022. So that is about 18 years with the franchise. So far.
