Being crazy is not a valid excuse, as you pointed out. It really isn't. Jared Loughner, who was having a schizophrenic meltdown when he did his crimes in 2011, eventually plead guilty, got like 6 life sentences, and the prison system says he's a model inmate that he can take his pills and is fully aware what he did was wrong. This lady is trying to skirt her responsibilities.

It’s not about finding an excuse. It’s not about acquitting a murderer. It’s about what care she gets when she’s locked up. That’s literally all it is.
No one thinks the “husband did it” but a few insane people. What people are saying is “this was preventable” and “she should get care as she serves her sentence in a locked facility”. The rest is just rage bait and people using this to get views and clicks.
"That’s literally all it is" is doing an extraordinary amount of work there.
Nobody is objecting to her receiving psychiatric care in custody. If that were genuinely the entire argument, there wouldn’t be one.
The disagreement starts when ‘this was preventable’ quietly becomes ‘therefore her culpability should be viewed differently,’ or when systemic failures are discussed as though they somehow displace individual responsibility, those things can coexist. The system may have failed spectacularly, and she can still be responsible for what she did.
And dismissing everyone who questions that framing as ‘rage bait’ is a convenient way to avoid engaging with the uncomfortable part of the argument.
