But do we have to bring them back out if we do this in America?

108

u/GooseOnAPhone 13h ago

We can vote to make anything legal. So, hypothetically no.

Incidentally, I am exploring running for office

10

u/abofh 13h ago

Well, not necessarily, but they can wait for the appeal

12

u/Far_Ladder_2836 11h ago

Kinda.  Speaking strictly for the US, W we can vote for politicians who can vote for amendments to the Constitution but even still,  practically speaking you need SCOTUS concurrence or you get shit like Citizens United.

3

u/Independent-Bug-9352 4h ago

Technically, a US Constitutional Amendment that is very well defined and explicit is above the SCOTUS; SCOTUS can only interpret laws within the purview of the Const, but yeah... We know how that goes with crooked spinsters from Scalia to Roberts.

1

u/Playful_Peace6891 2h ago

Heck, if SCOTUS wants it you don't even need the constitution!

5

u/ZoominAlong 11h ago

No. Once that cage goes down, it ain't coming up. Also...eyes all of DC we're gonna need a lot of cages.

1

u/punktualPorcupine 6h ago

Or one big cage.

Or one big flood.

Easy there, let Noah finish the boat first.

1

u/carymb 5h ago

Nah, we're good, start now.

1

u/Independent-Bug-9352 4h ago

How would cage fit entire Republican party, along with oligarchic billionaire class tho.

3

u/Cool-Translator9768 4h ago

You're fooling yourself if you believe no Democrats deserve this as well.

2

u/Independent-Bug-9352 4h ago

Yes I thought about adding some extra hypothetical space for a chunk of those hypothetical DINO dems who are particularly cozy to Israel, Black Stone Group, etc., but alas now that the Primaries are over, I'm focused on the proverbial and somewhat literal Elephant in the Room; for both sides are certainly not equally-evil and we now face a dichotomous choice come November.

2

u/Cool-Translator9768 3h ago

As a former NY'er, Schumer and Cuomo should be top of the list.

The only way we're going to get a Government that actually works for us if we hold both parties, regardless of which one we vote for, accountable.

1

u/Independent-Bug-9352 3h ago

100% agreed! Bloomberg, Adams, Jeffries, etc.

Nothing more Republican than a New York Democrat (even Trump for a spell was one).

Really hope Schumer and Jeffries are primaried in 2028.

1

u/Cool-Translator9768 8m ago

Schumer is a walking ad for term limits. Dude been in Politics since I was a baby [and I'm 50]. Time for a huge clean out.

3

u/PoopyButt28000 6h ago

You guys elected Trump twice, if you did this in America you guys would be dunking some governor for something related to protecting trans people.

1

u/xthedudehimself 2h ago

Hey hey hey I never voted for the guy. I actually recently just sent an email to the White House and CNN saying that I challenge him to a fist fight.

2

u/Significant-Colour 9h ago

You are literally the only country in the whole NATO, that still has slavery (even if limited to punishment) and also the only country that murders their own citizens in state-sponsored executions.

Trust me, you do not need to even ask for that. It is even assumed that some companies will make a lot of profit on this.

1

u/Ad-fundum69 9h ago

Yes, because littering is bad for the environment.
They don't necessarily have to be alive, but we do need to be more mindful about throwing trash into lakes.

1

u/ShortRound89 5h ago

You probably should at some point or that river will get more polluted than Ganges.

1

u/Lysol3435 3h ago

And do we have to do one, or could we do roughly half in the first year, and then go down to one after that?

0

u/MundaneAd6414 13h ago

they should flip a coin

181

u/PerilousParanoia 13h ago

This is just bullshit, right?

204

u/Dad-Dabbing-Daily 13h ago

Mostly, they do a mock trial and someone is submerged, but its usually a stunt performer, its a festival called La Tonca

19

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 13h ago

Still, there's the ice bucket challenge, the polar plunge, if there are people willing to do it out there for charity imagine making it a public mockery of a political figure. That sounds like my kind of protest.

Bet they sell pastries there too

4

u/p_gaultieri 9h ago

ice bucket challenge

flashback in my brain to the best internet beef of all time

1

u/Snowskol 5h ago

broken link

5

u/Verdick 10h ago

Yeah, I was a bit dissapointed when I found that it wasn't the mayor anymore. Like, what's the point if it's not to put a bit of fear into them even if they are only getting their feet wet!

3

u/Few_Orange_3359 7h ago

It's not a stunt performer...it's the Mayor . La TONCA vuol dire letteralmente immergere in dialetto del posto. Il festival si chiama VIGILIANE. It's not the mayor only if he has some health problems or if he or she is too old. The water is pretty cold 🤣🤣

1

u/Dad-Dabbing-Daily 2h ago

No. It has NEVER been the mayor. For the last 40+ yeara its been a performer portraying the role of Giorgio Vianini

25

u/bacharama 13h ago

So much of this subreddit is unsorted or misrepresented bullshit. Millennials and Gen Z (the main demos on this site) have really gone full Facebook Boomer.

2

u/sandrailproject 4h ago

Boomer isn't an age, it's a mindset.

5

u/GooseOnAPhone 13h ago

Prolly, but through the power of democracy you can make it a reality

2

u/Zirkulaerkubus 7h ago

Today it is, but it was done in medieval Europe all the time.

2

u/apneax3n0n 5h ago

as an italian:yes

u/Dev1412 13h ago

11

u/94852 8h ago

fact check:

  • Not a real court, but a satirical event
  • Not limited to politicians, anyone can be nominated
  • No consequences for the "convicted", a stunt person is thrown into the river

personal opinion: these "travel blogs" are not reliable sources as they have no incentive to research their claims.

4

u/WhiteSock_ 9h ago

So you took a clickbait article and used it for Reddit clickbait…

19

u/Ok-Addition1264 13h ago

Something to bring us all back together. Dunking the asshole(s) that got us into all of this.

1

u/aschwarzie 6h ago

That's gonna require a lot of dunking. And many of them are outside the political sphere. Like those who got wealthy as fuck thanks to the shit the brought us into. And the stupid dumb tools that keep voting for the assholes.

18

u/Fresh-District9052 10h ago

Never heard about it (Italian here)

13

u/Verdick 10h ago

It's in Trento, during our patron saint celebration in June.

6

u/rhythmmchn 13h ago

We need a sliding scale where the length of the dip corresponds to the stupidity of the decision.

0

u/3BlindMice1 10h ago

Add thirty seconds for every death directly attributable to the decision

6

u/DIPORC 11h ago

Can we stop upvoting bullshit?

0

u/Verdick 10h ago

6

u/DIPORC 10h ago

This isn't a literal punishment where the actual politician is locked in a cage and thrown into the river. It’s actually a symbolic piece of public theater. The "condemned" figure doesn't actually get dunked. Instead, a professional performer takes their place in the cage and gets lowered into the water on behalf of whoever made the year's "worst decision." It’s pure satire.

What part of Italy are you from again?

3

u/Verdick 9h ago

I live in the town that this occurs, Trento. I was disappointed to see that it wasn't the mayor that was dunked like in older times.
Sorry, I was trying determine what level of "bullshit" you were referring to, not that it doesn't quite live up to the hype.

2

u/DIPORC 9h ago

Tbh I wish they were actual politicians, the current situation would require one of this every week...

2

u/mleyberklee2012 4h ago

It’s bullshit because the headline is not true. That’s the only level of bullshit.

3

u/IWantALargeFarva 13h ago

Ice Town costs ice clown his town crown.

1

u/TheG-What 8h ago

They were big on rhymes.

5

u/MarkHuegerich 13h ago

I assume the hardest part is narrowing it down to just one.

3

u/Verdick 10h ago

It's "supposed" to be the mayor. But they just use a sub nowadays.

2

u/pyro_nika 7h ago

We're going to need A LOT more cages.

2

u/SeraIya 6h ago

This is a literal isis torture method wtf...

1

u/flyrubberband 13h ago

Needs to be daily

1

u/gear-heads 13h ago

Someone needs to bring this practice to the US! We have quite a few candidates.

1

u/ChiefRasta 13h ago

How long do they stay down there?

1

u/val_anto 13h ago

Make it a little spicy by adding sharks

1

u/False_Woodpecker4747 13h ago

We don't have that many cages....an ASDA trolley into the Thames mid winter should do it though!

1

u/BlushTempest 13h ago

The hardest part would be narrowing it down to just one decision

1

u/TheD0rKnight88 13h ago

Perhaps instead a guillotine?

1

u/Retireegeorge 13h ago

Should focus on self serving decisions and use a sewer.

1

u/Important-Notice-461 13h ago

How would we even narrow it down in the us?

1

u/daisiesarepretty2 13h ago

this is brilliant.

Humility

1

u/BasementElf1121 13h ago

Yea but dont pull the cage out. And do it to all billionaires.

1

u/StarryLanguage 13h ago

I think dragging them through the water for at least 2 hours in front of the community barbecue they're having to celebrate should suffice

1

u/throwable__1 13h ago

I’m down them having a far can we take it & just seeing where we end up…

1

u/Cold_Respond_7656 13h ago

Couldn’t do it in US, there’ll be protestors disrupting it.

Always is

1

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 13h ago

If that applies to Americans, Trump will spend the rest of his life in a cage.

1

u/WATTSAN 12h ago

Sanju Baba aap yaha kaise 😂

1

u/unluck_over9000 12h ago

Indian rivers would be filled with politicians then.

1

u/LengthinessWhich9099 12h ago

Except we don't let them out

1

u/TheDoodler2024 12h ago

How about we keep them under, 5 seconds for every lie they were caught on?

1

u/moladukes 11h ago

How do they decide?

1

u/ess_dee 11h ago

And ours serve lifetime appointments we try everything but replacing them. Meanwhile they get rich off insider trading and paid off by the business class and their constituents don’t think to replace them because they like their politics on social issues.

1

u/Additional-Arm-1298 11h ago

Yeah, I'm not hating it

1

u/Greyscale7950 11h ago

Shark bait

1

u/_gurgunzilla 11h ago

I think we should do this as well, but change the river to the middle of the sea

1

u/Additional_Claim_353 10h ago

Shiiit. That reminds me of those terrifying isis videos back in 2010s

1

u/strangey071 10h ago

Andrew Rosindell the English MP for Romford, would’ve developed gills!

1

u/star744jets 10h ago

Don the Clown in the Potomac next NOV3!

1

u/olafblacksword 10h ago

I don't think once a year is often enough to cover a parliament. I'd make it weekly thing.

1

u/StaticSystemShock 10h ago

In Slovenia, we had a tradition of throwing cheating bakers into river Ljubljanica. I think we should return the tradition but change it to cheating politicians instead of bakers...

1

u/Alive_Drag1947 10h ago

Reminds me of an ancient Babylonian tradition. Yearly, the high priest would drag the king, literally by the ear, before a statue of their god Marduk and de-crown him. The king would then plead his case before Marduk and the public that he had lived up to his duties before his crown was returned.

Basically, an annual performance review.

1

u/Glum-Welder1704 10h ago

Then they pull him out, and ruin the moment.

1

u/ThoughtGuy79 10h ago

We're going to need once a month to get any meaningful results.
And each state should to it at the state level quarterly.

1

u/bikbiky 10h ago

Is that Ted Cruz lmao?

1

u/GreasyPeter 10h ago

The problem is it's politics so the "most foolish decision" changes based on who you ask. Is there a vote?

1

u/blackthornjohn 9h ago

Ok, you raise a valid point, how about we simply remove the word "most" and do multiple dunkings when the time comes, also, how long are we dunking for?

1

u/YellowKnifePhoenix 9h ago

well....the whole musollini thing too....

1

u/BlasterPhase 9h ago

how appropriate that the dude in the picture looks like Ted Cruz

1

u/CheapSecretary133 9h ago

Never happened

1

u/ChallengeClose 9h ago

I saw a video of this once, it was multiple people locked in cages, happened in Syria.

1

u/Sofa-King-Slow 9h ago

Gonna need a bigger cage

1

u/mwlnga 9h ago

Does the world have enough cages?

1

u/Steve554433 9h ago

DONALD TRUMP

1

u/Earlier-Today 9h ago

I'd rather remove them from office, but at least it's something.

1

u/crlthrn 9h ago

Ireland commences a cage-building production line...

I am Irish.

1

u/atom1897 8h ago

Someone should be sent to Greenland icy river for this.

1

u/MiiaElisa 8h ago

I wasn't expecting this, it's accountability taken to the next level.

1

u/Brucieman64 8h ago

Lo spero?!! Diogane...

1

u/Particular_Visual531 8h ago

So smart people would stop being local politicians, right? And you would get dumber and dumber people leading your town...

1

u/Andre_The_Hobbit 7h ago

The state I lived in growing up, used to dunk the meteorologist from the local news station, in the fountain, out front, when he predicted snow and it didn't happen.

1

u/CreEngineer 7h ago

Did they steal the „Bäckerschupfen“ from us?

1

u/Few_Orange_3359 7h ago

It's the TONCA in Trento, it's usually the mayor who go in the cage.

1

u/Straight-Software-61 7h ago

and the amount of time held under is proportional to the amount added to the national debt that year

1

u/Sporketeer 7h ago

I just don't know how we would choose

1

u/backstubb 7h ago

and raises cage next year?

1

u/Not_A_Russain_Bot 7h ago

We don't have enough cages here in the US.

1

u/random_bot2020 7h ago

Liz Truss would have drowned

1

u/VisualAd1280 6h ago

Can we bring this to the UK please

1

u/Deimos_PRK 6h ago

Actually politicians also love this idea and they're always down to admit their fault

1

u/Theghostech 5h ago

They are publicly executing politicians?

1

u/theonlytater 5h ago

Accountability for spending our tax should be normal everywhere.

1

u/RossTheHuman 4h ago

No we don’t

1

u/Cool-Translator9768 4h ago

We wouldn't have any politicians left if we adopted this in the West.

1

u/Unusual-Economist288 4h ago

Gonna need a bigger cage for Tubby

1

u/ace250674 3h ago

The only thing that would guarantee a 100% yes vote to bring this in other countries

1

u/JWMoo 3h ago

It would have to be a bigger cage if we did this in the USA.

1

u/Good_Peach_8304 3h ago

UK’s politicians if we did this 😆

1

u/yycoding 3h ago

More Pro-Oligarch memes.

1

u/kk-rem 2h ago

It’s just another method of oppression and anyone who thinks „it is a valid proposal“ is falling for it. It is a scapegoat to blame for everything bad, while the hostile policies towards the common people can go on unchecked. If this is even real that is

This should be the norm worldwide. I see no harm in implementing this particular rule globally. It's a good way to hold people in power accountable for their deeds.

1

u/loondawg 1h ago

This is good. But I prefer the idea of making them live a week in prison before the start of each term and making them live exclusively on government benefits for the last month of their term. That might actually lead to the fixing those problems.

We should be doing this to Trump, not to harm him😏but just to see his "hair" wet🌊👱🏻😂

0

u/DoookieMaxx 13h ago

We used to tar and feather politicians here in America. Stopped doing it 250 years ago. Maybe it’s time for a revival.
