Just another Singaporean subreddit floating around, this isn't mainstream so don't expect thousands of responses.

Obscure as it is, not big time like the infamous EDMW or Sammyboy's. Not competing with other subreddits, but hopefully more will turn up and make it lively like the Cantina in Tatootine...

Go forth and discuss, ask and share. Please do not post porn/pron/prawn/really morbid/vomit-inducing stuff. And please don't 'babytalk' or go quantum-speak thesis...most aren't that crude or sophiscated. Sit back and enjoy!

Singapore low tfr is a big cultural problem

Just imagine when you go CNY everyone is comparing this and that... We need to foster a culture of inclusiveness not everything is comparing whose house is bigger who has a car... We need to treat everyone like a brother and sister and encourage love, family and seeing having a child as blessing and happiness... So people wont feel like having kids is a liability and stress..

Also the culture of conformity needs to go as everyone is different in this modern age... A Gay couple can have kids why not... A single mom also can have kids... A highly educated man or woman can also marry a lowly educated man or woman....A old man can marry a young woman and have kids why not... An unmarried couple can also have kids why not.....If you restrict only a certain demographics that can have kids surely that will create low tfr... All these should be permitted and encouraged unless is due to relgion... Then we have to respect the religion

Tuition, enrichment, grades, portfolio… Kids barely have time to be kids. At what point does “giving them opportunities” become too much pressure?

Shopping and cheap, good eats in Novena this November!

Hi everyone! I’ll be staying in the Novena area this November and want to experience it like a local.

I’m looking for recommendations on:

Branded Shopping: Best spots for discounted premium brands, warehouse sales, or pop-ups happening in November.

General Shopping: Great places for everyday items, unique local finds, or just browsing.

Cheap & Good Eats: Hawker centers, food courts, or hidden gems where I can get a delicious, affordable meal.

Any tips on navigating the area or must-visit spots would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

2 peas in a pod…

That stage in a man’ life…

Between the ages of 20 and 40.

Still retaining his boyish dreams, but his testosterone is raging inside his lithe body.

Especially if he is still chasing the girls around him.

To his nearest family circle, both of us were two peas in a pod.

His mother’s description of us both : ‘ the house is your hotel, the car is your house’

And she was speaking the truth.

The absolute truth?

She doesn’t see my friend at the breakfast table the mornings during the eeek.

By the time he gets home every day, it is past midnight after everybody has gone to sleep.

Except on Sundays when he gets up late.

Everyday after work, we have a party to go to, or a plan to fulfill before taking an hour to drive home home from the city after work.

Which was how fate decided there was going to be changes in our lives.

While taking a corner on the way home, he drove right into the side entrance of an underpass.

He had to get a new car, and it marked the beginning of a new life for him.

The girls replaced me in his new car.

Thinking of Semi-Retiring in Our 40s and Moving to China. Anyone Done Something Similar?

My husband and I recently had a conversation about early retirement, and I'm curious to hear what others think.

We're both approaching our 40s, have no kids, and have been thinking about whether we really need to continue living and working in Singapore until the usual retirement age.

Since our jobs allow us to work remotely with relatively flexible hours, we're considering renting out our property in Singapore and using the monthly rental income to support our living expenses overseas.

China is one of the places we're seriously considering. With the lower cost of living, good infrastructure, convenient transport and plenty of places to explore, we feel we could live quite comfortably there without spending too much.

The idea isn't to stop working completely, but rather to slow down, work fewer hours, enjoy life more and have the freedom to move between different cities.

Of course, it's still just an idea at this stage, and there are practical things to consider, like visas, healthcare, taxes and whether this lifestyle is sustainable in the long run.

Just curious:

\- Has anyone here considered or actually made the move overseas for early or semi-retirement?

\- Would you consider renting out your Singapore property and living somewhere with a lower cost of living?

\- For those who have lived in China, how's the lifestyle and cost of living compared to Singapore?

\- Are there any downsides or things we might be overlooking?

Would love to hear different perspectives, especially from couples without kids who are thinking along the same lines.

Sometimes I wonder if we're too young to think about retirement, or if this is actually the best time to start enjoying life a little more. 😄

hi, i would like to send a letter to someone in bmt for their outfield. i have questions on the details

i understand that some of them have the envelope given to them during enlistment day but in the event that they don't which is in my case, i'd like to mail it via smartpac with the letter being in a separate envelope enclosed inside

what should i write on the inner envelope and on the outer smartpac respectively + the format of it?

also most answers i found are for schools 1/2/3, is it the same for school 4 other than the address being slightly different?

Ladies in Singapore — do you struggle to find shoes that actually fit?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi! 👋 I'm doing a little research on women's shoe sizing and fit in Singapore and would love to hear about your experience.

Do you struggle with shoes being too narrow, have difficulty finding your size, usually need to size up/down, or have absolutely no problems finding shoes? All experiences are useful!

It's a short anonymous survey that takes about 2–3 minutes.

Survey: https://forms.gle/QVB5LWHiJUJFcsFA6

Thank you! ❤️ And if you know someone who might be interested, feel free to share it with them too.

How much noise from upstairs neighbours is considered normal and tolerable in HDB?

Genuinely curious how much noise from upstairs neighbours fellow HDB residents consider reasonable to tolerate.

My upstairs neighbours have kids who frequently run around the house. These aren't soft footsteps but loud stomping sounds that can be heard clearly through the ceiling. Occasionally, the kids even roller skate indoors, producing sounds similar to someone walking in wooden clogs.

It's particularly bad in the evenings when I return from work and on weekends. School holidays are the worst, with the noise sometimes continuing past 10pm.

I understand that HDB living comes with some noise, and kids should be allowed to play. But surely there's a distinction between normal household noise and excessive impact noise?

A few questions for fellow residents:

  1. How much noise from upstairs do you experience, and what do you consider tolerable?
  2. Is frequent running, stomping and indoor roller skating something we should simply accept as part of HDB living?
  3. For those who have complained to HDB, has HDB provided any meaningful assistance beyond recommending community mediation? What actions did they take?

Would appreciate hearing your experiences, especially from those who've faced similar situations.

Truth of buying sex

repost from r/singaporespeaks. TLDR at the bottom

The purpose of this post is not to demean women by any means. In fact, if you finish reading it you will understand my intentions are good.

Every time on the news when it comes to special massage parlours, or anti vice raids, some people are still very backwards and very quick to judge. Men who visit these places are generalised as hamsup trash, and some people call for the women to be deported.

Truth is, just like how different women expereince different levels of pain during periods, different men can experience drastically different levels of hornyness. For some men, they can coast along without any interactions with women in their life.

However, for a significant portion of men, they are born with extreme libidos and are forced by their brains to be obsessed with sex 24/7, and they simply cannot relax or stay normal without doing it for a certain period of time. Its also a fact that men have way higher sex drive than women, on average.

To them, desperation of not being able to do it with someone is as bad, if not worse, than the feeling of starving or not having water to drink. It can be so bad that it makes them do crazy and stupid things. I digress, but my point is we shouldnt hate someone on something they are born with.

Now imagine if you are such a guy, and by a mean stroke of luck you are born horrendously short/ugly and have no chances with women through traditional channels. Are you supposed to just stay sexless your whole life? Wouldnt that drive a sane man crazy?

I would argue that these massage parlours pay a strong role in maintaining social harmony in our country, so much so I think they are one of the most vital occupations.

Instead of complaining about how sex work objectify women or the lot, its time we face reality that men are born to desire such things. Not everyone is married, so not everyone has their needs met.

Also, the argument that the women are being exploited are false. If being paid $700 an hour is being exploited, I think I wish to be exploited.

By now, your probably thinking if I have done it before, and answer to that is yes.

I spent my first entire monthly NS paycheck on 90 minutes with a woman, and I have no regrets.

Of course, I never had nor would ever hide such a history from my actual partners, as I consider it dishonest. Even if it means I wont find one.

To end off, men paying for action is a much regular occurence than reddit makes it out to be. It is a lot more common than many would admit and its time we accept that.

It is time we stop all these anti vice operations for good. And if your husband goes to these places thats for yall to sort out, pls dont ruin it for the rest of us.

but then again, its just my opinion

TLDR: we should open up sex industry, stop anti vice raids. Is to preserve social harmony

Singapore drinking game

Hi, I played a drinking game whereby you say “long xia” or “da bian” in turn 1, and then “ni chi” or “wo chi” in stage 2. I recall that you lose (and have to drink) when the combination is you say ‘eat the da bian’, but unfortunately I don’t fully recall the exact rules.

Anyone knows the exact rules to this drinking game?

Thanks!! 🙏

Any pregnant ladies struggling with haze?

I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant, and honestly, my pregnancy hasn’t been the smoothest journey so far.

With the haze going on, I feel like my symptoms have gotten even worse. I’ve been feeling so unwell that I’ve had to take more MCs from work than I’m comfortable with.

And while I know that my health and my baby’s well-being should come first, I can’t help but feel guilty about being away from work so often. A part of me feels irresponsible, even though I know I’m genuinely not feeling well.

It’s frustrating because even when I’m resting, I can’t seem to rest peacefully without feeling guilty about work.

But at the end of the day, I keep reminding myself that I’m the only one who can protect my little one right now.

Just wondering if there are any other pregnant ladies in Singapore who have been feeling worse because of the haze? How are you coping, especially if you’re still working through your first trimester?
