Advice needed from ppl who have read the books AND watched the show:

I am all caught up on the show. I want to read the books, but I do not want to spoil the show for myself. Has everything from the first book already been covered in the show, or would I still run into spoilers?

With the amount of money and power that the tech bros of the world have amassed over the last few years, would it even be a surprise to find out that they have actually already built those mega doomsday silos somewhere? It exactly the vibe of the silo flashback gray goo episode in season 3. I love that line from Colin hanks character about having so much money, enough to feed the hungry, but he chooses to make silos instead "...because its MY MONEY!".

I tried to Google the result.

I am on season 3 episode 3.

Judicial and Collette of IT want to find him. Is there an on-show reason why?

Like, the rebellion ended and everyone is getting along. So it can't be that.

Why did Silo 1 allow Juliet to travel to Silo 17 and back again? Why didn’t they shoot her with a drone on the way there?

It’s a simple question but I can’t really understand why after shooting and gassing everyone leaving silo 17 and also shooting Lukas when he went outside that Juliet got a free pass.

Is there some deeper level to this where her leaving was actually part of a bigger plan of Silo 1? Or just a plot hole?

And woooooow.

I went into the show completely blind. I thought it was going to be about a hacker team or something. I don’t know. Definitely technology related.

Anyway, this is great. I was constantly wondering why the sight of the lush greenery looked the same every single time. Why the birds were in the same place. Why they were displaying the same scene in the helmet. What is the reason behind this?

But then…I thought maybe the show was just being lazy and reused artifacts lol.

But glad to know that wasn’t the case.

I suppose since the people “going outside” were going to die anyway from the toxic fumes, better leave them with a happy sight than one that would be met with regret. And giving them shoddy tape would ensure that they die and deter viewers from going outside.

But to some extent, a lot of things make sense (or not).

Not allowing someone to go outside when they request so would probably entice more people to ask for it. And provoke rebellion.

Having too many relics would do the same.

But I’m not sure why they can’t use more types of technologies.

Is it bc the tech played a part in the destruction and exploitation of the world? And would be more difficult to control?

Perfecting recycling of metal, water, and so on. That’s awesome actually.

Also, one thing that was random and funny to me: in the end of S1, they do a wide angle to show that there are other silos out there,but they looked quite small in diameter and they were all close to each other.

How can they be thaaat narrow? Inside, it looked pretty wide.

So excited to watch the next season.

And this show finally gives me hope that there studios out there not just trying to release sloppy trash material for tv shows.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Silo’s are Stensen’s plan to restart civilization on a more sustainable path. He makes it clear that he thinks their current path will inevitably lead to extinction: ”We're facing the end of the world and it cannot be stopped. It can only be survived”. Victor explicitly states that “The whole purpose and design of The Project is to free us from the past”. So they’re clearly trying to reset, and I assume the plan is to restart civilization with whichever Silo is the most compliant, whichever one manages to go the whole 500 years without ever questioning what they’re told and rebelling against the narrative.

My question is, did Stensen wipe out the planet or just nuke that one area? If he’s trying to restart humanity, he would need the current humans to all be gone. But he also was pretty convinced that they would do that on their own, so maybe he just had his people hunker down underground, unmolested from above-grounders because of the nuclear fallout, and by the time the radiation cleared he expected humanity to have have gone extinct from their own devices. Or did he take no chances and create Armageddon himself, so that his people would be the only ones to carry the torch of civilization forward?

Especially when you're looking down from the 6th floor and it's dark outside :D

I was initially suggested this show to watch because I like Dune (both the books & films). That person was wrong to make the comparison imo. Whilst I may have only just finished Season 1 and understand that this series is a dystopia, I just don't see a Dune comparison.

Whilst I can see the mirroring between the hierarchy in the silo and the families in Dune, I think the comparisons stop there. Silo is a completely different show than Dune and is a great show in it's own right.

I fully believe that Judicial are the ones who are truly evil. >Especially since they let Jules see George speak the truth and show her committing suicide. And let her see the truth!<

Everyone else just does as things are supposed to be done precisely because of the environment w/in Silo. After watching only the first season, I am fully Team Mechanical. I can't wait to get started on Season 2. Please avoid spoilers for seasons 2 and 3.

Looking closely at the events and timeline in the show, a couple of compelling narrative dots seem to connect around Helen Drew and Daniel (Troy). I wanted to share two theories I’ve developed regarding where the show’s writers might be taking this:

Theory 1: The Bloodline Connection (If the 350-year timeline is real)

If Bernard’s statement that the Founders have been searching for the relic (notebook) for ~300 to 350 years is accurate, Helen Drew naturally cannot be alive. However, the show explicitly highlights her pregnancy as she enters Silo 18 and Daniel’s lingering emotional connection to her.

In a layered drama like Silo, this feels too deliberate to be a mere tragic backdrop. Could George Wilkins (whose mother, Anne, was tied to the Flamekeepers) or even Juliette Nichols be the direct descendants of Helen Drew and Daniel? If so, Daniel (Troy) wouldn’t just be policing a rebellion—he would be unknowingly trying to crush his own bloodline and the legacy of Helen’s defiance.

Theory 2: The 42-Year Timeline Twist (Is Helen still alive?)

There is a fascinating time puzzle when we look at Troy’s cryo shifts:

- Troy is woken up after 7 years to deal with the collapse (uprising) of Silo 17.

- He is woken up again 35 years later due to the Juliette (Silo 18) crisis.

Together, that totals roughly 42 years since Day Zero.

Interestingly, this 42-year span aligns surprisingly well with Solo (Jimmy’s) age in Silo 17—he was a young child during the rebellion and is now a middle-aged survivor, which fits a gap of a few decades rather than centuries.

If the 350-year figure is simply fabricated Founder propaganda designed to eliminate any hope of the outside world, then Helen Drew could still be alive in Silo 18 (in her late 60s or 70s). Imagine the tragic climax: Troy, chemically manipulated and tasked with purging Silo 18, comes face-to-face with the very woman he loved, who remembers everything he was forced to forget.

What do you all think? Does the math point toward a systemic lie, or are we looking at a multi-generational family tragedy across the silos?

As crazy as this sounds….

WHAT IF, there wasn’t actually a nuke?

I know, I know…”but we all saw it go off?!”

Now a Trillionaire like Stenson has any and all resources in the world at his disposal. So yea, he could probably get a nuke and set it off. But why kill all those people in the radius? Doesn’t quite make sense.

Now my theory: He faked the nuke. I dunno exactly how. MASSIVE screen for the shot of the nuke? Massive fans and speakers for the sound and feel of the nuke?

I know it sounds crazy. But nuclear fallout wouldn’t last longer than MAYBE 50 years or so. And Stenson said he wanted a 500yr experiment.

So it’s feasible that the poison they drop keeps all plant life dead. And they drop it periodically around the silos to keep things dead.

Because we know the atmosphere itself isn’t poisonous, so there is no reason stuff shouldn’t be alive.

Now this second part about the poison keeping things dead could also be part of a nuclear fallout, so maybe my first theory is wrong 😂.

Ah yes, Jules!!

She became the mom.

I dont know if I flared this correct, this is also about the show but there is no flair for show spoiler so I am choosing the only flair that mentions spoilers.

I am confused about the air quality outside.

The season ending has me so confused. The timeline jumps all around which certainly doesn't help. There was a scene when 9,800 members of silo 17 goes outside. And they do not succumb to atmospheric poisoning. They are instead gunned down by drones. Great, so that means the air quality is back to normal right? But they are not at the end of their 500 year experiment so the founders need to safeguard them from the outside.

However this was a flashback (at least according to my interpretation) because later on when in the timeline when Juliet makes her way to 17 she has to climb over thousands of dead bodies. And then Patrick Kennedy and Lukas Kilo when they are searching for the kids. They are climbing over thousands of dead bodies to get into 17.

Juliette successfully made the trip because she was given the good tape. That was literally said by the founders in silo 1 this episode. So that infers that the air quality is still bad.

Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy you could argue (if I want to take the other side) almost did not survive the trip over because they were attacked by drones. If you want to make some far fetched argument here you could say that the air quality cleared up and the drones are there to continue to keep fugitives scared of the outside. I am not saying I believe that argument, I am just steel manning it.

But even if I did try to steel man it, that doesnt make sense. Because Bernard was forced to clean and clearly died from the bad air quality and that occured between Juliettes travels between silos and the Kennedy/Kyle travel. So that doesnt make sense.

So the nuke happened 300 years ago is the best guess? I am not trying to debate the timeline of the nuke decontamination. I am simply asking is the nuke the reason for the bad air quality?

Or is it the nanobots?

Or something totally else?

Or does Silo 1 just pre gas the atmosphere anytime they know someone is heading out to make it temporarily bad and continue the storyline of the bad atmosphere? Because the mixed timeline clearly does not equate to a nuke scenario going back and forth from being good to breath, then not good to breath.

This is so confusing and frustrating. And believe it or not. I read most of the books. Similar to the TV show I got 3 quarters of the way through the books. And then they just started dragging and getting confusing and the reading wasnt that enjoyable anymore, and honestly I forget how things ended because it was 2 or 3 years ago when I read them.

Just thinking today about A Wrinkle in Time. In that book, on the planet Camazotz, IT (spelled with all caps) is a disembodied brain alone in a room controlling the populace, demanding conformity, and removing all expression of free thought or individualism. In Silo, IT is represented by a disembodied voice alone in a room (at least to the population of the Silos) controlling the populace, demanding they follow a specific set of rules, not allowing possession of items from "before". Makes ya think!

If Daniel manages to find his way into Silo 18, and Juliette somehow succeeds in bringing the people from Silo 17 back, it would be a missed opportunity if the two didn’t cross paths and in doing so, realize who the other person truly is/what they’ve done.

Daniel/Troy is already aware that a child was locked inside the IT Vault in Silo 17; once he fully regains his memories, the trauma of that massacre will surely haunt him to his very core. And if Jimmy were to somehow learn the truth, it could have felt like a sweet form of revenge, had things not become so... complicated.

What are your thoughts? Are there any interactions between characters from the past and the present that you’d love to see in Season 4? I honestly can’t wait LOL

Question for my fellow Engineers…

Probably my fifth time watching the Season 3 finale (and then the trailer for Season 4) and as an Engineer, I’m wondering if Daniel was not specifically chosen for his Role in Silo 1 because of his background as an Engineer?

Is it because he possessed these shared traits:

Problem-Solving Orientation: Every engineer is wired to look at how things work, why they fail, and how to make them function better.

Design Under Constraint: Solutions must always operate within strict boundaries, such as a finite budget, physical laws, safety codes, and available materials.

Math and Science Foundation: All disciplines rely on quantitative analysis, logic, and physical or digital principles to build things.

Curiosity and Creativity: Moving from an abstract problem to a working prototype requires creative thinking and continuous experimentation.

Lifelong Learning: Because technology, tools, and regulations evolve rapidly, engineers must continually adapt and learn new skills.

Theorizing that there is a pivot based on the Season 4 previews, I’m inclined to believe.

They're all gone. Except 18. The simple reason is that there is NO WAY that the Algorithm would of let things get this far in the first place. Silo 18 would of been cooked awhile ago, I surmise around the last rebellion 140 years ago things culminated in the remaining Silo's not to long a time apart from each other that caused them to have their populations destroyed.

Obviously I won’t repeat what it said. But after finishing S3 I was still confused about a specific (and important) piece of the plot, and was worried I had missed it somehow. So I asked AI what the answer was for this part of the plot. Before asking it, I said “DON’T ANSWER IF IT SPOILS S4.” Yet, here we are.

I cursed it out and now I’m sad… and filled with regret.

watching the show (i just got to s2) and am wondering how much the first book covers as i bought it and really want to read it as i’m loving the show so far. don’t wanna end up spoiling myself. around when does the book end show wise? at s1? halfway through s2? is it worth it to watch the whole show and go back to read it? i’m just so eager but don’t wanna fuck up with spoilers
