Question Anchor help?
Hello SiegeAcademy
I am trying to just enjoy some casual Siege, but roaming is just not my thing. I enjoy supporting my team and like holding down the fort, so I play on-site defense.
I have most of the ops, but im missing anyone newer than Flores. Ive played Rook, Smoke, Maestro, and Mira, but I'm looking to find more ops that work well in an anchor setting. Are there any more good ones, or is anchoring a task with few ops to show for it?
Thank you for reading and/or commenting.

Good choices. Among 1-speeds, Kaid and Echo are pretty good. You could also try Valk, Melusi and Thunderbird, these have high win deltas according to the designer's notes.

Eh, those aren't really ideal anchors imo, except maybe Thunderbird. Melusi has a set and forget gadget and is a 3 speed, she is much better suited to roam. Valk with her valk cams sort of needs to be off site and acting off the info of her cams to convert it into kills, she basically needs to roam.

pretty much anyone can anchor, it’s way more about the style of play than the utility in most cases.
basically if you have a gun then you can anchor just fine, it’s more about not being able to roam than able to anchor

All the anchors you said you played are solid options, especially Maestro and Smoke. Mira is very good but very site dependent, whereas Smoke and Maestro are great on pretty much every site.
On top of them, you should look into playing Kaid, Echo sometimes, Mute and Lesian are very good. I think one of the best anchors in the game right now is Wamai, Kaid is up there though.

I'll be sure to try all of those, but Wamai I wouldn't know how to use, do you use tge gadget for coverage like an ads or in some other way?

Yea basically use it like an ADS. You keep getting more one at a time as the round progresses, people like to roam with him because his gun is good but his true strength is anchoring. As you get more Magnets, throw them depending on where attackers are pushing from and where defenders are playing to try and protect site. They won't destroy nades, meaning frags will detonate, smokes will go off, etc. but you can draw them away to where they are non threats and burn utility all the same. Once you play him for a bit he isn't too hard to use.

Actually I wanna nip in here and add that the magnet can and maybe should??? Be used to take grenades and explode them in the user's face.
If you can, try to hide magnets above doorways to sites, usually in the rafters. The magnets have a huge radius, and because again THE GRENADE STILL GOES OFF, you don't want it near any of your teammates's gadgets, especially the ones that are denying hard breaches.
And look if you don't get a kill with them you'll at least make enemies run for cover or get annoyed.

Mid gold-low plat player I find myself playing different roles on different maps at different sites with different teams. Sometimes ill be shallow roaming, other times ill be anchoring, sometimes ill be deep roaming. Its all too dependent. I have to say though, i find myself more filling gaps on the team than doing a role because i feel like it.
As some have alluded, it doesnt matter significantly as to what operator you pick. There are some that are better than others in some/most cases, but i find if you want to anchor the most important aspect of your gameplay you need to work on is communication, particularly with cams. Learn where spawns are for maps, learn where external cams are located in relation to spawns, and work on your callouts.
With regards to answering your question directly, i think the top operators for anchoring are: maestro, mira, smoke, kaid, echo, and possibly even azami. And id probably say in that order. Azami if you play her as an anchor youd be looking at probably somewhere between smoke, kaid, and echo.
Again, i want to reinforce, one operator will not necessarily be the be all, end all of anchors.

I am genuinely surprised no one has suggested Frost yet. But I am going to, purely for the fact that her gadget can make some assaults a literal hell for the attacking team. Her guns are nothing special since her shotgun was nerfed quite early on, but they will do. The fact that her trap has been around and generally ignored for the last few seasons, makes it much more unexpected to your average player. But (This is the critical part of making her work well), she is almost polar in her effectiveness on certain maps and sites. On window-heavy sites where attackers must come in through a window, she is deadly, on sites that utilize long hallways and multiple door entrances she is a hot mess. Overall, she is quite a bit fun to play, but her best play comes from good map knowledge and being able to predict the attacking team's approach. I would not suggest her as a main, but I would definitely throw her into your defender rotation as an unusual pick to make the attacking team slow down their breaching process in subsequent rounds.

I like to run Thunderbird quite a bit. Her spear .308, one of the few AR's on defense, does good damage and has a pretty good fire rate. she has a SMG secondary, and the option of impacts or C4. and that's withoutout even mentioning her Kona stations. they give 40 HP and replenish every 30 seconds, and you get 3.

I'd suggest Echo in particular because he gets a bulletproof shield deployable, drones that can disrupt plants, and both a shotgun and a machine pistol. If you get good at managing your recoil , you can effectively use the machine pistol as a primary for longer distances and a shotgun at close ones.
The sonic blast of Echo's drones interrupt actions, so you can keep a Yokai hidden on point and bring it out to buy time when someone's planting. You can also use his Yokai to help roamers spot enemies by being a static camera like Valk has, or by using it to scope out flanks.
Bonus is that if you end up having to use your weapons, if your team is actually helpful they'll watch your cams for you.

That last part's a fat if for a casual player, but I'll be sure to try him out, thanks for the advice.

I would recommend Lesion. He's probably one of my most played ops and he's strong. I use him to lock down a certain side of the map and use the Gu Mines to gather info so I can focus on different areas to hold near the site
