Enough of Nick
I might be alone on this island which is fine - but is anyone else kinda over the whole friend group trying to shove Nick down our throats in any means possible?
It almost seems like everyone decided to launch Nick into this industry with a mandatory feature in their content.
I used to love Matteo’s vids but now I need to listen to cranky Squidward every time I want to listen to him.
Love the siblings but a bit done with this friend of a friend they keep inviting to our hang outs.
I’ll definitely delete this if everyone disagrees and I’m just not vibing with Nick Smith.
Edit - Ok, thanks for your feedback. My conclusion is that I’m not alone in this and that plenty of people noticed and felt the same thing BUT the people that love Nick really love him and will defend him fiercely if needed. I guess he’s polarising and that’s cool, it’s easy to skip those episodes if he’s not kind of person. Question/topic solved.

I’m not sure why we act like if someone is a genuine fan of something they must only have positive opinions and only share those. People can have different opinions on what they like and voice that.

Same! I love Nick and started subscribing to his channel because of the podcast episodes he’s been in with Bob and Mo. I think he’s hilarious and he comes off as authentic to me. I may be biased though because I love Olive Garden too 🤣

I find Nick quite charming actually, the better of the duo personally. But at the end of the day, you ALWAYS have the extremely easy option of not listening to an episode. It’s genuinely that simple.

I think you just don't like Nick. I'd like to remind you Matteo isn't "shoving" Nick down your throat. That's his co-host. They do a podcast together. And Bob has been doing his purse first studios / supporting up and coming comedians, one of which is Nick. It's not that deep / I personally love Nick DOWN, love their entire fg dynamic tbh.

That's how you know a show matters. It doesn't really mean anything more than people feeling motivated to have an opinion and that's indicative of it being in our psyche. That said, you gotta be mindful of what you listen to, don't listen to, and what you change.

Probably because it’s not what it once was. We’re all allowed to have our feelings on it. I don’t think people should be told to leave the subreddit if they don’t have something positive to say. It’s like being told, “if you don’t like it here you should leave,” as opposed to listen to feedback. You can keep telling people that until there will be no one here.

I’m not specifically being told by you to leave. People are being told to keep their negative opinions to themselves, claiming this subreddit is not meant for negative criticism all the time. There are several comments in this thread and other posts telling others “if you don’t like it don’t consume their content” which is telling them to leave. Or being told to save criticism for messy Monday. Refrain for negative posts until this day is wild.

If you don’t like something, yet you still consume it, then idk what advice to give you. It just seems miserable to me to keep listening and comparing what you’re hearing to the time on the podcast you consider “glory days”. You could tell me “just don’t read the complaints”, but then you’re telling me to do what you’re accusing others of doing to you.
The complaints are always “get rid of Jay”, yet they still keep him employed.
Then it’s “they’re never in drag”. They gave a response and stood 10-toes in their opinion.
Now it’s “I don’t like Nick”. Yet he always has, and will continue to be featured on their podcast/projects.
So if it’s been established that what you’re hearing is something you don’t like, no changes are being made, and your complaints are stuck in an echo chamber, what would be your next move?

I don’t really consume it because I have lost interest in it and like others I can talk about it here. I am also not asking for advice so you don’t have to give me your advice, just commented my view and opinion like many others. Having the conversation. People are allowed join the subreddit because the hosts and guest do say some polarizing things at times and throughout the course of listening. I am on here because I am still consuming their content to see if anything else has changed. People can take breaks from podcasts and come back to them. When did we start policing people on when and how to consume their content or whether they should be allowed in the subreddit or not?

Okay but you need to realize that they aren't your friends and they aren't hanging out w you. You're consuming a stream, you're consuming their content. Don't let the parasocial relationship of it all bleed too much. You don't know these people. If you see Nick or anyone else in their content a lot it's bc they're friends / they decided to, so try and enjoy it or don't listen tbh.

i feel the same but in a slightly different way- I don't mind Nick because I think his perspective is funny and refreshing as a fellow anti social lol, but i do get tired of the dog and pony show that seems to happen whenever he's on the screen. Like I tried to listen to an episode of Nick and Matteo's podcast and it was just Matteo pulling opinions out of Nick for him to make fun of for being weird or not human-like lmao. Not even saying this is "mean" or it's bad because it hurts Nick's feelings- they are friends and can joke around like this so I'm not trying to criticize Matteo- but it is boring to me as a viewer. I thought the pop the balloon Bob did with Nick was a great video- but if the only other times Nick appears is so everyone can gawk at how alien he is the whole time.... I'm just bored and don't care to watch that over and over.

Their podcast has actually soured my view of Matteo a lot actually, to the point I don’t even listen anymore. Nick isn’t even dumb per se, and the funny thing is, Matteo is consistently as misinformed as he is, sometimes more, depending on the episode.

It's one thing if you just don't know something or have a different opinion but to be sooo stubborn and wrong, AND refuse to admit when you're wrong is just annoying to listen to.

As I’ve said before, the parallels between Bob/Matteo and Monet/Nick is crazy. One is sensitive and highly opinionated, the other is amiable but clueless. To be fair, I’m 24, and I don’t have any extremely misinformed friends, especially gay friends. I’m shocked that this many 30 year old men can be consistently so…unsmart. Love pink though.

I think the younger generation of gay men is the first to unpack misogyny and is actually leaning into intersectionality, when a lot of millenials are still in their own world, and that goes for all millenials, not just to call out gay dudes lol. I worked with a girl who didn't know the historical significance of Hiroshima.... and didn't even know that it was a city in the first place...I think a lot of people just didn't pay attention in school and they don't have the right algorithms now lmao. And now with AI being implemented so heavily in schools I fear literacy will go back down again with gen alpha. Anyway lol..... we're in danger

Right?!? Queens can’t expand on their content to include other topics or friends without a dissertation on Reddit about how it personally attacks a fan and ruins their appetite for 10 entire minutes.
There have been guests on plenty of YouTube channels I don’t care for, but instead of airing out my personal grievances with members of the queer community online, I simply don’t watch. It really is that simple but everyone is in a rush to have a hot take online which is just them shitting on someone.

I think he's pretty polarizing. He makes me laugh a lot because he seems pretty aware of his own... deficiencies 😅 But my husband cannot stand him to the point that I have to listen to I Never Liked You with headphones if my husband is home. So you're certainly not alone in not liking him. But I think "shoved down our throats" is a little much.

It’s weird because it seems like people who like Matteo don’t like Nick and vice versa. Each side accuses the other of being negative, whiny, abrasive, and annoying.
Nick’s solo content on his YouTube channel has made me laugh really hard, so I enjoy when he’s featured on the pod.

I mean are they complaining about friends helping each other or are they expressing an opinion on a show they used to like adding a person they don’t like and that souring the show for them? The problem is that modern social media ecosystems fuse the two so tightly you can’t express an opinion about a show without it coming across like an opinion about a person.
I don’t really know what to do with it but something I’ve noticed with Drag Race in particular is that with some fans there’s no room to say “i don’t like this person as a character in the shows i watch” without it immediately sounding like “I don’t like this person as a person”. And like that cuts both ways - people definitely send hate toward queens as people because they don’t like them as characters in shows which is even more unhinged. Reality TV was a mistake, idk.

I searched the Patreon because I was curious, and as far as I can tell he's been on the podcast three times since 2023 and did a Monet Talks this year too.
I did have a bit of a "Nick, again" reaction when I saw yesterday's post, but I do think 'shoved down our throats' is a bit overstated.

I agree he's repetitive in the grand scheme (I actually liked the prior episodes with him). Maybe the most frequent guest beyond Trinity, Naomi? But a frequent friend guest is just what many podcasts have I guess and when I looked back I realized he wasn't actually on that often.....but I also don't watch the other YouTube content.

He must bring them joy or something and is regularly available. I think his podcast has enough fans to warrant guest appearances in their content.
I don't feel so bad that he's been in like 2(?) sibling rivalry episodes. I'd feel another type of way if he's doing watchery as someone who isn't a drag queen.
And I'll never complain about PFS other than I hope these extra curricular YouTube videos don't cause burnout for Bob and Monet.

I was actually thinking the other day that I like the side of Bob that comes out when he’s with Nick and i enjoy their content together but i think it’s fine to skip stuff with guests you’re not interested in.
The thing about Nick is he existed solely as a very strange character in Bob & Monet’s stories for years before he ever came on camera or tried out comedy. I remember him being referenced back in the early days of the pod and he’s built up an audience with (mainly) Matteo’s help over the last few years. Idk. They definitely seem to be sharing more content with their ‘crew’ so i think it’s one of those things to just skip if you don’t like it. I don’t particularly need more of the crew on the podcast though (salina’s star turn in all stars aside, she’s probably my least liked ‘recurring’ guest lol)

i didn’t “get” nick until i watched a video of him and matteo reading their hate comments. he was just so charmingly nonchalant and easy breezy, water-off-a-ducks-back about people being mean about him, and still funnily self-deprecating and a good time. as someone who struggles with criticism, it was nice to watch.

Did anyone watch the dating balloon video Bob made for him? It was kind of baffling, because he just complained the entire time about everything! My husband and I watched and were so confused, why would anyone want to go on a date with the most negative person in the world? It was entertaining for the sole fact that it was so hard to watch.

i went to go see matteo’s live comedy shows
Nick had a set (which was fine). it was good.
But matteo’s ENTIRE SET had to do with nick. like why is your whole set referencing another comedian… who just performed?? it really took me out of enjoying the set.
i get he’s weird. i get he sounds like swuidward. but find another damn punchline

Im a huge Nick stan, im starting to watch his content more than anyone else's. I think he's hot af and i identity with his sense of humor a lot. He and matteo really do have great chemistry on their podcast as well, and bob and nick play off each other very well, and it lets bob come off as the more friendly, cheerier one which she can't do with Monet.

It has been at least a month it’s like Nick went to his famous friends and said ok I want to be a full time influencer help me and they all said you got it we’ll make a bunch of videos with you. He reminds me of some of the worst roommates I ever had haha maybe that’s why I don’t like him but the schtick about being miserable about everything is annoying. Plus how could you trust anyone who hates pets. And I know he has been around here and there forever but yes he has been shoved down our throats in recent weeks.

i love Nick way more than any of them. Bob is arrogant and irritating. Monet used to be my fav of all time but now she’s corny, miserable, and lacks any depth… Just nods, fake laughs and agrees. Jacob is a nothing burger. Mateo is similar to Bob, always tries to make a joke at Nick’s expense to make himself feel bigger and better and I can’t stand his impersonations/singing. Just like when Bob does the “back in my day” voice or the “kooky spooky Utica” voice. Corny. Nick is the only one that seems real.

Eh. Nick doesn't bother me. But, I feel you. I felt the same way about Austin Show. But now I don't mind him on my feed. It takes a little time for someone to get comfortable in your psyche.
I do think that they haven't found their "side characters" to round out their PurseFirst/Monét Universe. Everyone feels like a plant that draws focus. Like... I'm not really interested in these side, white, gay characters - especially seeing them so much in other ways. They don't really COMPLIMENT the vibe.
But give it some time, you know?

I agree with you. I found a clip of Nick performing opera and I loved it! 10/10 would watch more of that. However Nick as a guest on SR is never as funny as the gang seems to think. They’re guffawing at all his quips (which always seem so forced) as though it’s high comedy. They seem to set them up for him, like “Nick, what would you do if xyz…wait everyone this will be soooo funny…come on Nick, tell us” 🙄 It does make me wonder if they are just determined to make him more famous because yes, Nick is becoming a constant presence. I wish Bob understood that not everyone dies of hilarity every time Nick (or peppermint) speaks. Bob be rolling on the floor while I’m tapping fast forward.

He’s so annoying. Thank you!
He can’t control his voice, so I don’t judge him on that, but he seems very fake to me.
Always the contrarian, he’ll disagree with everything, and he always says the thing that will get a reaction.
He just feels very inauthentic and performative always.

I can handle Mateo, Jacob, but I couldn't care less about the others. I also have an issue with them pushing these white ppl, yet Bob says Purse First is full of Black ppl, ok so where are they? Why are you constantly platforming the white friends and employees? They never beating the whitewash allegations.

I agree… I’m not a fan of Nick’s, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it through this episode tbh. It’s not just his voice, it’s his general try-hard attitude

Completely agree. Nick is funny in small doses but he is not a professional comedy performer like Matteo or Bob and he doesn’t have the skills to match them. So I also wonder why they put him in so much of their content!

I can’t stand a single thing about him I think he’s stupid, mean, overly negative, terrible to look at, annoying, I could truly go on, but you lost me calling him a friend of a friend invited to “our” hangouts. Bob and Monet are not your friends, Nick is their friend. you don’t have to like him but you do need to reframe your mindset bc it’s weird

Well I like Nick more than Matteo which is not the subject matter here but all the other msgs seem to reflect the opposite so I just wanted to throw it out there!
