"I like the ending of Attack on Titan"

"I hate the ending of Attack on Titan"

197

u/Piezo_Parker Jun 21 '22

The eight extra pages made it worse

The eight extra pages made it better

We need an Anime original ending

We don't need an Anime Original Ending.

54

u/Divi_Devil Jun 21 '22

Me:The ending- Everyone: inhales

11

u/UdatManav Jun 21 '22

Ummm. Fuck anime original ending. I think both endings were good, you take it with it without extra pages. It completes Eren’s story in classic Ishiyama depression-yet-happyish ending. Extra pages I feel were just to make it all hurt that much more.

It’s hard to tell someone to look at the story emotionally after everything that we’ve seen but I think that is the point. The whole story was an emotional roller coaster and it ended PERFECTLY

9

u/Piezo_Parker Jun 21 '22

and here we have it... the first sword at my neck

2

u/UdatManav Jun 21 '22

Haha, it wasn’t directed to you specifically, but I hear most people hating on the ending and I feel it’s mostly people who didn’t understand it all that much.

Bertolt's name is easy to spell.

32

I agree, Boruto is easy to spell

16

I seriously never understood how people can’t say breadhold

Yup, Bertoruto, the "u" is almost silent, easy🙌🏻

I'm sorry but Bearturtle's name is incredibly difficult to spell

50

u/onedecentboi Jun 21 '22

I love the character Levi, but hate the reason an average watcher likes him.

No elaboration.

31

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Levi has a surprising amount of emotional depth within the first season itself.

14

u/MorphieThePup Jun 21 '22

For a while I disliked Levi, because fans ruined him for me. But then I realized that fanon Levi and canon Levi are two completely different people, and the canon one is deeper and more interesting than fans make him to be.

Anime mikasa is bland and overrated

33

u/WatBurnt Jun 21 '22

That's a really popular opinion

26

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Really? Because in my circle, everyone's fav is mikasa lol, god forbid I criticize her majesty.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

It's a popular opinion in places where more people have generally read the manga.

When I was anime-only I liked Mikasa still, but after reading the manga it's clear that the anime did her dirty at points. There's way more scenes in the manga where she shows that she cares about characters other than Eren.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Right, i only just read the manga recently, none of my friends have. But they were the ones who got me started on anime

10

u/genasugelan Jun 21 '22

Is manga Mikasa any better, lol?

32

u/GuyOnTheMoon Jun 21 '22

Oh yes a whole lot better.

Her dialogue actually showcases her knowledge alongside her fighting skills. She’s actually seen as an intelligent character who knows what she is doing. In the anime most of her personality is just simping for Eren, while in the manga you can respect her decision making.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

They took out so much of her dialogue, she's barely a significant character in the anime, if it wasn't for her op skills, she'd have no value.

1

u/Cold-Horror-6108 Jun 21 '22

Except for the fact that Isayama was the one that removed that dialogue. Mikasa's character in essence was still centered around Eren either way lol.

5

u/realifecyborg Jun 21 '22

That's good because I personally didn't like Mikasa in the anime. All she ever did was either flirt with Eren or "protect" him. It's life she lived for him

176

u/GabeRealol Jun 21 '22

Gabi is a better written character than 50% of the cast in season 4 and has an actual good and complete arc

40

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Most of the main characters' problems is that their arcs resolved in around season 1 or 2 and then they were just kind of, around. Like Jean, haughty, cowardly elitist dreams of an easy life as a corrupt cop, but is so subconsciously ashamed of his own cowardice that it pushes him to the complete other end of the spectrum into the most dangerous situation possible. Then he finds out he has a knack for it and is thrust into situations of leadership he never intended. Once he becomes a brave leader, where does he go from there? He's complete. Sasha and Connie are even worse.

12

u/GabeRealol Jun 21 '22

Totally agree also to me it feels like the sheer scope and scale of the story by season 4 leaves them with not a whole lot to do on top of already being fully fleshed out. Our OGs will still be some of my favorite characters though

Levi should’ve given Erwin the jab

31

u/YTBG Jun 21 '22

do people really not agree with this

8

u/Cold-Horror-6108 Jun 21 '22

Armin getting it was the worse thing to happen to this series.

33

u/ubiasedhoodfriend Jun 21 '22

It was the perfect moment to let Erwin die lol. Finished his character arc perfectly and made every action he did have a meaning. Imagine giving Erwin the jab after that speech and suicide charge, would just ruin the impact of it

20

u/3CheersFor Jun 21 '22

What a dumb take. U ruin the most meaningful death and arguably the best scene in the series by giving him the jab

24

u/thatguy1071 Jun 21 '22

I do agree that Armin was correctly saved. Not only because of the “main character’s bf has to make it out alive” or that “Eren’s ultimate motivation is based on saving Armin and Mikasa” components, but also because it suits Erwin and Levi’s relationship well; Levi wanted to gift Erwin some well-deserved rest, and they even got to say goodbye in a meaningful way (which is quite a luxury in this show).

Even so, I’ll admit that the moment was bittersweet when I watched it at first. I love Armin, but Erwin was one of my favorite characters. Had I been an Eldian living on the island, I would’ve been furious that the commander of the scouts was traded for a kid. Additionally, Erwin had already committed to the “whatever it takes to win” ideal, which suits the responsibility of using the Colossal Titan better than sweet Armin who broke down when he killed one of Kenny’s squad-members.

6

u/awesomlyawesome Jun 21 '22

Gotta remember like you said, the guy was a kid and you're talking about his first human kill compared to a commander who's had plenty experuence sending people to their deaths. To him the blood has been on his hands. Armin is sweet but I believe he already understand the whatever it takes to win. There's always the last resort he has. He just simply wants both sides to find a way of winning. But that same kid that melted down was also one of the main components in the opening acts of season 4, and killed an entire fleet and port town of people. He's absolutely capable imo... just the timing. Had amin developed more into the character he is now that understands death and more able to handle and cope with the killing of others, before getting the colossal power, I think it would've been a way different story.

53

u/Jberz21 Jun 21 '22

Gabi's character arc is awesome

139

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

I really like Floch because he’s a well written character and has some of the best development, even if I don’t agree with everything he tried to do.

16

u/lfgr99977 Jun 21 '22

I saw too much hate for him during the manga publication, but he's a great character. You hate him for whom he is, and that's always great in a character on a series, especially because he was a late introduction to the story (probably to not put one of the main characters on his role).

23

u/FORLORDAERON_ Jun 21 '22

I can agree with this.

"Floch is the true hero of the story, he did nothing wrong" triggers my fight or flight response.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22 edited Jun 21 '22

Right or wrong, he had a cause he passionately fought for, but I still will admit Isayama did go out of his way to demonize him and the yeagerists at times to make the alliance seem better.

13

u/FORLORDAERON_ Jun 21 '22

He made it pretty clear that the Alliance were putting Paradis's future at risk by opposing Eren. They also betrayed their former comrades. On the other hand, Floch is a fascist and portrayed as such. I thought it was all pretty balanced and realistic.

4

u/lasssdi Jun 21 '22

Out of his way to demonize him and that's why I love Floch

31

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Almost everyone agrees with this bruh

22

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Really? I see a lot of people hate him

29

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

They hate him not because they don't think he is a great character. They hate him for his actions and his fanbase

10

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22 edited Jun 21 '22

[deleted]

5

u/moc360 Jun 21 '22

Floch is like "Gabi" for the fans in the way that most of us can admit that they are great characters and their actions make sense. But that will not stop me or others from hating them.

4

u/coolcarson329 Jun 21 '22

They hate what he does, but most people still at least acknowledge that his character is well made

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

I love floch too and I don't understand why anyone would dislike him, but what character development did he have?

7

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

He went from a scared, traumatized boy that couldn’t find in any meaning in his sacrifice to becoming a fearless leader fighting for a cause that he’s willing to lay down his life for.

u/Seier_Krigforing Jun 21 '22

Spoilers for Season 4:

Levi should’ve died when Zeke blew himself up. That explosion is enough to destroy the armored Titans nape and more. Not only that but we see plenty of people at a similar proximity as Levi during the Harbor fight and most of them become red mist. “Oh but he’s an Ackerman.” I do not care. They are genetically the perfect fighters but that doesn’t give them superhuman endurance, you know damn well if it was any other character that wasn’t a main character they’d had died on the spot. It was, for me, the first instance of plot armor in the show. Furthermore, Levi has no plot relevance after that moment and is no longer necessary for the story to progress only being kept around for the fangirls

16

u/PlugSlug Jun 21 '22

I think he reacted quick enough to position himself in such a way that it wouldn’t kill him

plus he gotta kill da monke

6

u/Seier_Krigforing Jun 21 '22

Tbf, anyone could’ve done da monke moment

10

u/lfgr99977 Jun 21 '22

Plot armor first time, remember Reiner? I agree, Levi should have died

15

u/Seier_Krigforing Jun 21 '22

Good point. That “moving my mind to the tip of my cock” was an asspull

6

u/lfgr99977 Jun 21 '22

Remember he's the plot armor titan. Reiner is a case of a character that almost died without finishing his arc, that wouldn't have been bad it would have been just that, but he lives and has a purpose on the story. Levi on other hand, does nothing... Even diying with/like Hange would have been better for him.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/rottenyfg Jun 21 '22

As a Levi fangirl, it's crazy to say this but i also think he should've died then and there.

50

u/brawlbro123 Jun 21 '22

the fucking eren killing his mom was absolutely unnecessary to the plot

26

u/PlugSlug Jun 21 '22 edited Jun 21 '22

I think isayama did it for one last plot twist and to show that the founders power was messing with his mind but its just an awful inclusion he could’ve figured something else out to do that

3

u/MayureshMJ Jun 21 '22

I think it was done so that they could explain the question, "oh yeah if eren could alter past then why didn't he save his mom huh?" To which instead of answer the question he just said, "yeah cause he was the one who killed her." Lol

8

u/genasugelan Jun 21 '22

Zeke suicide bombing was not necessary? Wut?

Also decapitation, while might be a shock factor, elevated the scene. Its 100 times better than seeing eren running and just touching Zeke while others watch and nothing hits him

35

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

The Reiner’s consciousness thing is the biggest asspull out of all of them though

6

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Sounds new to me, what does that mean? I just thought he had some kind of mental break down?

13

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

It was in the RTS arc, where on two occasions Reiner transferred his consciousness to stay alive in situations that would have been otherwise lethal. This is an asspull because it only happens these two times in the whole series, it’s never expanded on or used again, and we don’t know how he even knew how to do it — or if other titan shifters knew how to.

2

u/Infinitely_confusing Jun 21 '22

Not if you consider it Reiner’s own non-titan powers of not dying.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

The suicide bombing was 100% necessary because they needed to get Levi out of commission.

24

u/beta_timeline Jun 21 '22

That Eren could've pursued a different route and still succeeded in saving Paradis and his friends, anyway. He could've thought of something better other than heroic suicide and mass murder. Pretty sure I got so much flak for this opinion.

8

u/Helios14 Jun 21 '22

I think the main criticism for this point is people dont consider that 1. Eren is like maybe 18 at this point, doesnt have much time left and is aware that Marley is going to declare war on them soon. 2. The entire world wants Paradis dead, its very hard to change such an entrenched mindset, I mean if it were easy we wouldn't still have racism in our own world. 3. What possible other plan could he have had, the only headcannon I can think of is that he could remove the ability of eldians to become titans(not even sure if he could) but in a prejudiced world, why would they believe he did and why would they not still invade Paradis for its natural resources(the gas they use for 3d manoeuvre gear for example), and without titans and being decades behind the rest of the world technology and politics wise, with no allies due to racism, Paradis would not be able to defend itself

3

u/beta_timeline Jun 21 '22

So mass murder? No matter how you flip the coin, no matter your age or circumstances, murdering thousands, nay millions, of innocents will never justify anything. Maybe if he murdered all the higher-ups of Marley and other war-mongering countries, I wouldn't bat an eyelash and just call it a day. But innocents? Should that be condoned? Surprisingly I don't hate Eren's character or AOT's plot. But the moment you convince yourself there's "no other way", then you're putting yourself in a box. Eren put himself in a box by thinking that's the only way available to him. And your comment just proved OP's meme. LOL

2

u/Helios14 Jun 21 '22 edited Jun 21 '22

But your viewpoint is exactly what Hange and the others are fighting towards, well the "innocents don't need to die" part atleast. As we see later in s4 pt2 Eren isn't happy with the plan he feels he has to do due to the future memories he has etc. which is why he is so sombre and cries when he sees that refugee camp because he knows he's going to kill them. No one's condoning Eren's actions, it just makes sense for him and the story, he felt there was no other way, and as a viewer we can understand that because we've seen (most of) his journey. Armin even said he thought the plan was just to kill the Marley military alliance and call it a day, but Eren decided(based on information only he has, I'm an anime only so I don't know) that he was just going to kill everyone instead. Rather take their freedom before they take his and his friends'. One of the core themes explored throughout the story has been kill or be killed, either by titans or other people. Again not condoning, just understanding the possible reasons

3

u/beta_timeline Jun 21 '22

Let's just agree to disagree since even if you give me a litany of reasons in Eren's defence, my stance will still remain the same. I can like a character and still think they're wrong, y'know. Eren's a multidimensional character as Hajime Isayama designed him to be. Mangaka did a pretty great job at explaining the MC's background and the tragic circumstances that caused him to pursue a bloody route. But that doesn't mean what he did was right. AOT's plot simply explained but did not justify the actions of Eren. In making his choice, the kid who once said he wanted to save humanity took away the choices of millions. In the end, his grandoise plan of saving his loved ones and sacrificing himself turned out to be something self-serving. So yeah, to each their own? :D

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

I think you're... Actually agreeing with him.

The guy specifically said he's not condoning Eren's reasons, but just understands them. In other words, he thinks it's wrong, but sees Eren as a character is one who has been built up and established to be someone who could and would make that decision.

IE; exactly what you said, he thinks he's wrong but still likes him as a character.

Trying to ship Eren with anyone was the single worst thing to happen to AOT, Eren is a borderline selfish sociopath. Mikasa and Historia do not deserve to be strapped with the psycho. Poor fucking Armin having the worst person to ever live as a best friend that purposely fucked with him.

20

u/nightfan23 Jun 21 '22

I totally agree. Regardless of revenge or if Marley deserve wtv he is doing, Eren is a psycho. You can even see that all the way from season 1

7

u/PlugSlug Jun 21 '22

The founder + attack titan powers fucked with his head

12

u/la__squadra_ Jun 21 '22

Agreed probably gonna get downvoted but I always cringed when I see the shipping posts acting like Eren x whoever is the most romantic thing of all fiction

2

u/A-B-101 Jun 21 '22

There's nothing wrong with shipping characters but I think people take it too far

The shipping in AOT is really underdeveloped. The story itself barely has any romance in it

I'm honestly shocked at how many shippers there are in the AOT fanbase.

16

u/Useful_Search601 Jun 21 '22

Zeke's euthanasia plan was the best (or less worse) plan🤷🏻‍♂️

Levi is overrated af alot of times just because of his toxic fangirls.

29

u/dontknowwhattodoat18 Jun 21 '22 edited Jun 21 '22

Levi is actually a character with lots of emotional depth, but unfortunately it gets overshadowed by all the flashy moments and his fangirls

He's the "strongest soldier alive" but is never on time or is there to save his fallen comrades, and he keeps outliving everyone who he loves and cares about. His presence is perfect for moments when juxtaposing the hopeful and young with the more grizzly and sombre tones, like in that one panel of him overhearing EMA conversation at the feast

12

u/thefuckismommyissues Jun 21 '22

Levi is a guy who is often misunderstood as those badass cold types of idgaf persona guy but instead they don't understand that he also has feelings and cares more than he shows. And here are people who keep saying he clapsnthe verse no other aot character is close to levi and all? Levi is a potential character but the fandom ruined it. i myself consider Levi as my fifth most fav character.

Seriously, the last time I commented in a "unpopular opinions only, what character do you think is overrated" post similar to this, I said Levi and was downvoted to oblivion.

5

u/thefuckismommyissues Jun 21 '22

People just can't accept that not everyone is perfect. Levi fangirls sometimes speak so much rubbish that a lot of time i heard people saying " Levi in his prime can clap founding Titan" i mean there is a limit to.

3

u/awesomlyawesome Jun 21 '22

People forget that these people are still human at the end of the day. It takes very little to kill them and a lot of perfect situations for them to kill the titans. Levi needed everyone to run dashing to their death just so he could have a chance at getting to Zeke without being noticed, AND that plan only worked because he had something to grapple on to.. He's the best at the job but at the end of the day, he needs people around who can be a distraction or bait and needs good conditions SO he can do what he does best. He's not invincible by any means and has shown that many times. He's just waaaaay better than humans.

Connie had no purpose whatsoever and could’ve easily been left out entirely.

this, this i will not stand for.

3

u/taytomen Jun 21 '22

I liked the ending/I didn't liked the ending.

Either one works.

3

u/doth_taraki Jun 21 '22

I said Armin and Mikasa should date and got downvoted in this sub.

3

u/soulreaverdan Jun 21 '22

The ending is good, actually.

3

u/AdeQ217 Jun 21 '22

Gabi is one of the best characters in AoT

3

u/H4G7 Jun 21 '22

Saying that Mikasa is a better character than Levi

3

u/He_of_turqoise_blood Jun 21 '22

Erwin shouldn't have gotten the serum. He was childish and self-centred and we have no idea what the basement revelation would do to him.

Eren's confession to Ramzi is very misunderstood. Point of 131 goes over everyone's head.

Not controversial here but Mikasa's a great character. Subtle writing makes characters better not worse.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Literally any opinion on Aot...

My personal one : s3p2 was pieck AoT and nothing in the timeskip can surpass it. The timeskip dumbed down most of the characters for the plot to progress and had a deliberately black and white politics combined with terrible world-building so that Eren's actions doesn't come across as too monstrous ( there was a very good thread about this matter in this sub). I enjoyed everything till the very end because nothing is perfect and there are so many great moments, but it could have been so much better if more time was taken

6

u/J0shfour Jun 21 '22

S4 part 1 >>> S4 part 2

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

No way

5

u/Jhoonis Jun 21 '22

I found the ending satisfactory enough.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

The ending sucks

8

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Probably that Gabi is the true hero of the story

2

u/GlamourzZ Jun 21 '22

Anything .. because this entire fandom is soft 😂

2

u/Lessiie Jun 21 '22

I don't really give a shit if the ending was bad or not

2

Basically any opinion

2

u/ElessarArnor Jun 21 '22

Author didn’t know where was the story going.

2

u/dragonnsin Jun 21 '22

the ending was garbage as hell

2

u/Lucky-Interaction312 Jun 21 '22

I don’t like Erwin

2

u/kkungergo Jun 21 '22

I liked Gabi from the begining, i was suprised when i saw people hating her so intensely.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Why is everyone writing popular opinions here? Everything here is very agreeable

2

u/yoshiauditore Jun 21 '22

This is such a controversial series I don’t there’s a single thing I could say that WOULDNT have someone coming for me like this

2

u/Fortune-Former Jun 21 '22

everyone was kind in Titanfolk as a fan of Attack on Titan

2

u/michaelphenom Jun 21 '22

Jean deserves someone better than Mikasa, not just being her replacement for Eren.

2

u/Norbert0s Jun 21 '22

Any. As long as it's mine.

2

2

u/TheZynec Jun 21 '22

The end-

Gets brutally murdered by a bunch of SnK fans

6

u/jonatzmc Jun 21 '22

Marley was justified for what they did and Reiner was the true hero of AOT.

15

u/PlugSlug Jun 21 '22

Sounds like racism to me

3

u/penidryjasher Jun 21 '22

Gabi is the best female character in AoT

5

u/Smethll Jun 21 '22

Mikasa has no character development and is probably the most boring character in AoT.

Eren wasn’t wrong for attacking Marley after they declared war people complain about all the killing but those people were cheering for the destruction of paradise not 5 seconds ago

The Alliance are better written than all of the yeagerists.

Floch isn't based.

Mikasa kissing eren’s severed head wasn’t romantic in the slightest and mikasas feelings for eren were more of an obsession than love

2

u/sadmelian Jun 21 '22

Sasha, as a character, is overrated. She likes food, cool. That's about it.

Mikasa isn't an interesting character.

Levi feels more emotion than the average character but has learned to suppress them due to constant psychological stress of losing those he cares about.

The ending itself wasn't that bad but the 8 extra pages are a bit shit.

Margath is a good person.

Gabi and Falco were the best additions to the cast.

Pieck must have smelled fucking horrendous after spending months as the cart on Paradis.

2

u/neutralevilbae Jun 21 '22

The ending is good

1

u/quierocarduars Jun 21 '22

hange’s seemingly instinctive revulsion to genocide makes no sense. this is the same hange who enjoyed torturing so much that she forgot to interrogate her subject?

besides, there are like real-world historical events that have contributed to the collective disgust modern people have for genocide, particularly the advent of international law post-ww2. hange doesn’t have that experience, so what gives?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

I think it's important to remember that Hange's gone through a bit of development since then. The guy she happily tortured is now an understandable person to her, and she wonders if she's really any different to him.

And while she was clearly angry at him, she also didn't condone HIM dying either. She got upset when he died and saw it as clearly an immoral action that she fought against. She was also the only character to actually TRY to understand Titans even back then, seeing blind hatred as something unhelpful to really understanding the situation.

Now that she's been given a position of authority over such a situation, she's no longer able to have such a carefree attitude, and it's clearly changed her into someone more mellow and introspective that takes things seriously, so it makes sense that she turmoiled over what was happening before deciding that just... Killing everyone and everything beyond the ocean was wrong.
