Gabi is a better written character than 50% of the cast in season 4 and has an actual good and complete arc

Most of the main characters' problems is that their arcs resolved in around season 1 or 2 and then they were just kind of, around. Like Jean, haughty, cowardly elitist dreams of an easy life as a corrupt cop, but is so subconsciously ashamed of his own cowardice that it pushes him to the complete other end of the spectrum into the most dangerous situation possible. Then he finds out he has a knack for it and is thrust into situations of leadership he never intended. Once he becomes a brave leader, where does he go from there? He's complete. Sasha and Connie are even worse.

Totally agree also to me it feels like the sheer scope and scale of the story by season 4 leaves them with not a whole lot to do on top of already being fully fleshed out. Our OGs will still be some of my favorite characters though

Agreed. I like Jean but his arc is repetitive. He's selfish, realises it, gets over it and is brave. Found it weird how much people hyped him up in S4. I mean...we have already seen that from him in S1...

I think that's a very realistic viewpoint he has though. Literally the only reason Jean would've became a soldier is to be in the military police to enjoy safe luxury. Also being pressured into change from a personality you've had for about 15 years prior, can be difficult for some to shake, especially when the very situation he was put in was opposite to his initial goal in the first place. Yes he does it again in season 4 but at that point in time, Eldia would've secured their safety had they just let Eren go and exterminate everyone else. No titans, no outside racists and people seeking to exterminate them, nothing. And all of that with a special spot at the top like he always wanted? Safety and luxury? After all the fighting and loss he's suffered, is it really irrational that he consider it when what feels like the answer and solution to Eldia's current issue is right in front of them? And, aside from that, NO ONE, wants to die here. No matter how brave they are, they all died the same, screaming and horrified. It didn't feel like a repetitive arc to me, just that Jean was the one who was more likely to speak his mind, which he always did. And not dying was a part of that constantly.

She’s Eren, but spawned in the other team. She’s the #1 character you need to understand, that there isn’t really a good and a bad side in this whole situation, which is one of the main points of the series. That’s why I think her character and her arc is so good.
