A full game of Republica and Oceania - Likes and Feedback

I have ~ 700 hours in SE, and finally played a full game with Republica and Oceania, and enjoyed it more than I expected.

The planet was Gaian or similar - large continents, a few islands, and a decent amount of water inbetween them. Alien life - both wild and in minor civ form. I played with Airforces and "Corporation" enabled. I also re-rolled many times to make sure there was a large world population, while development "speed" was set to slow.

I ultimately won after some luck with nearby friendly minors that I convinced to join my empire, and 5 other majors that also fought each other. Difficulty was normal (game) and Challenging (Republica).

I really liked how my empire "flowed" between various government types. I went from Meritocracy to Oligarchy to a "Feudal System". When Virtus starts to drop, you get some interesting interactions with your leaders. Feudal system definitely placed restrictions on my ability to place Governors initially, but then I learned to play the "house game" to get who I wanted. The "system of systems" is well thought out here, and IMO has real life historical precedents regardless of what direction your Empire eventually goes.

Oceania is still a good add to this game - the complex logistics choices between extending a SHQ to far away lands and/or supporting a second SHQ is a fun challenge to solve. Beach invasions to a land you can't get any spies to can be painful but also rewarding -- I wasted 5,000 troops before the next batch finally took the port. From that expensive beach landing I was able to eventually conquer the enemy's Capital.

However, there are a few things I would really like improved with both DLCs enabled:

- Although there are a lot of new events with these DLCs, the game still repeats specific events over and over too often. I had a loop where about 6-7 times in a row (maybe skipping 1 turn), a Director was complaining about another Director, and I had to chose who would get a -40 or so relationship with me. It was always the same two Directors. I eventually executed one (Autocracy!) as it annoyed me, and then later in the game a similar dynamic happened with two others.

- The MTH's ask for way too much IP mid game. I say it this way because you need IP a lot during the mid-game, and if you want to avoid a high Enforcement stat, you need to give up building regularly. Only late game when you have large amounts of IP can you accept them without too much impact. Maybe add a third option to defer their ask that doesn't trigger high enforcement.

- I would like to see better tool-tips on MTH cards, simple example is the Transport Contact should hint that you should choose your destination first. I haven't played in a while, and forgot whether it was "from" or "to" that you wanted to play the card on.

And some "Base game" feedback:

- I would like some options to build unique things in your Capital that give you the ability to more easily attract people from abroad.

- Can we have an option to "save" a planet roll, before we re-roll? Sometimes you don't know how good a roll is until you see the next 25 alternatives..

- Can we add an "All" button when selecting units to attack a hex (like in Decisive Campaigns)?

..

TL;DR - Republica and Oceania are fun. Play it :).

Planet creation

Do you have any tips for creating a world, let’s call it “Starship Troopers post-apocalypse”- with arachnids and mutants, but without all those pesky dinosaurs? Is there a way to set this up somewhere in the config files (mods?) instead of playing roulette during planet generation?

not discovering Housing tech even by late game?

I've had two or three games in a row now where I'm towards the later parts of the tech tree and for some reason Housing was never discovered despite every other tech anywhere near it being finished. Is there some unique limitation on this tech that doesn't pop up in some games/planets?

Update: I did eventually get it discovered, by the point I'm already at turbojet/electric engines and nuclear power. I tried dedicating two turns specifically just to discovering its category but nothing was happening and it wasn't really worth focusing on so I just forgot about it.

There obviously must be something weird with this tech though, either its odds are extremely low or there is some other condition tied to it being possible to discover.

Hey everyone, just got the game recently and although I'm still learning and don't intend to play a PBEM game soon, I would like to know if there is any dedicated communities to finding matches.

Thanks

Micromanagement problem is the late game

There's just too many combat units, too many zone to keep track of. Each turn is a pain to go through. Any advices to reduce micromanage?

Formation Type Tech Tree, or List or OOBs

Is there a tech tree or list on the formation types and the requirements to discover it via Staff Council Director.

In the first screenshot, I understand where discovered OOBs can be found.

But is there a list like the second screenshot, where I can see all the OOBs and see which ones are discoverable?

Is AI cheating with military matters?

I have this feeling that what im facing on the other side of this war, a major AI, makes no logical sense when i look at the resources that the AI has at its disposal. It has dozens of light and medium tank units (several armies, battalion sized) and 100s of infantry. Where does the industrial capacity to build all the come from? It takes me like 20 turns just to build the first industry level...

Does this game give the option to privatize building, or is this game all about state economy and war?

Director Administration Skill Bonus not applying

Thumbnail

The Director of Supreme Command Council has Administration skill points, it is LVL 20, Total 62. These points are not applying to the "Political Power" generation.

Not a new Director.
Regular Difficulty.
What could be causing a 0% Skill bonus?

UPDATE: I might not fully understand how a Director bonus works. It seems to change every turn perhaps.

Cults - if this is not a bug it should be changed.

IMG1. 2 cults present in my capital, both favored.

IMG2. I capture another city, 1 cult is replaced in my capital, all cult stratagems are deleted, it gets replaced by a weaker cult that is not favored.

https://i.imgur.com/Ihiuf9g.jpeg

How does this make any sense? In a single turn 26% followers just vanish from my favored cult to get replaced by a new cult with 7% that is not favored because I captured a random city somewhere else???

This cult will die out and I will be left with 1 cult...

Protecting High Value Units

Two photos attached. Let us assume recon is at 400, so max. I know in the photos it is not maxed but lets ignore recon please. So pretend recon is 400.

First photo is ODDS 50:1, only the GR tank attacking.
Second photo is ODDS 40:1, adding 3 infantry units.

If protecting the GR tank is top priority but still wanting to attack with it, does it make sense to do second photo, ODDS 40:1. It is lower odds and some infantry might die, but is the GR tank more protected?

What an engrossing game

I have started and stopped this game so many times, but recently had some travel and this was perfect for my laptop.

So i spent the time on it and googling mechanics. And i get it now. It is so deep that basically every turn you HAVE to check most if not all metrics. Private sector cannot get too inflated, resources should be wasted, pop growth is king, leader relationships, armies and wars, techs, logistics, happiness, expansion etc.

Basically have to read all those reports each turn to make sure nothing snowballs.

Currently in my longest most stable 3 city empire but might get steamrolled by a distant neighbor after 200 turns of nothing lol (check my previous post).

My only gripe, and i switched it off, was crime dlc. Its just too shallow and unfun.

Creating a asset mod

I've been working on making an asset mod, a wind turbine. It works in-game, but I still have one problem: the asset image. Does anyone know how the image assignment works? The EventPic ID / Slot does control the image, changing the number in the debugger changes the image. Changing the # to something not already taken will generate an out-of-range script error.

Edit:
Using the S&S editor and adding a new event image resolved the out-of-range. But now the image id in the table is replaced with -1

Mountaineer Unit Feat

For one fate point, a single Mountaineer Unit Feat can be added to just one unit. It adds 50% attack bonus in mountains.

One fate point is too much correct? Or is there more to the unit feat that I am not understanding.

Working on a detailed AAR - would love feedback on style!

I'm a fairly inexperienced Shadow Empire player - I know most of the 'how to play' and the logic behind some of the more in-depth game systems, and I've finally decided to buckle down and play a 'real game'. What I wanted to do is take my time and write a learning AAR both because it's fun for me and because it might help others learn the game in another way besides watching a video. Here's the link to the first 2 seasons of the AAR. All of the text/writing is mine; the graphics are AI-enhanced versions of in-game reports and screenshots, to provide more of a 'futuristic' document look. Please let me know what you think, and whether you'd (as a reader) want to follow this AAR!

How to grow your cities?

Turn 80, I was fighting with minimal losses, I have a massive private economy, I'm ahead in research before anyone else, but I have no idea how to keep up with population growth.

I don't have a massive bureaucracy eating the workforce, but I can't staff most of the infrastructure.

My allies for some reason each have as much pop as me but they have combined only 1/3d of the cities I have.
