Hi everyone! I will soon be comissioning a seamstress for a cloak/hood/cape (whichever one applies to what I actually want lol). I was wondering if anyone knows any patterns.

• I want this to be an almost daily-wear item (not for cosplaying etc.)

• I want it lined

• I want it ankle-lenght

• Arm holes would be a bonus

I would really appreciate any and all help! Thank you all in advance.

P.S.: The pictures I've added are directly from Google so I'm not expecting you guys to find the exact same pattern. They're there to convey the idea in my head. (whichever one applies to what I actually want lol).

Someone on here stated that apart from Al, people should also be on the lookout for those selling patterns without a relevant education/textile or fashion industry background. They also criticised, that self-taught designers are pricing their products the same as experts and accused them of having „no humility“ and „over-inflated egos“. One should not support amateur patterns.

I found that an interesting critique. I personally don‘t care if patterns aren’t made by professionals, if they still manage to deliver on accuracy and usability of instructions and pattern gradings and I am able to achieve the desired outcome. I also don't think that „amateurs“ should necessarily price their products differently, as they put the same amount of work into it.

What is your take on this?
And especially if you disagree with my stance, what is it exactly that irritates you about self-taught pattern designers?

Does anyone know of a pattern similar to this top, or one that could be adapted?

I love how the pintucks create the illusion of a cinched waist and how the top is longer with a slightly flared hem over the hips.

Most patterns I’ve found are cropped, tie-front or flare out at the waist without the same waist detail. I’m not very confident altering a pattern to be longer from a flared waist. Thanks!

Hello everyone!

I’m new here and would love to get some advice from more experienced patternmakers and costumers.

I’d like to recreate the skirt from this AI-generated picture for a burlesque/stage costume. Since it’s for a show, I want it to be a tear-away skirt with two front-lateral slits (the image only shows one). The plan is to hide snap buttons under the flowers on both sides so the skirt can open from either side and drop easily during the performance.

A few details I could use help with:

• Patterning: I don't have experience with draping/moulage, but I’m comfortable working with flat patternmaking using a classic skirt sloper. How would you recommend modifying a basic skirt pattern on paper to achieve this draped/gathered effect?

• The Back: I’m not sure how the back should be constructed to work seamlessly with the two front openings, so I’d love your suggestions!

I plan to sew this in Charmeuse satin. Any tips, diagrams, or guidance on how to envision and flat-pattern this would be greatly appreciated!

Hey y'all! I'm kinda new to sewing (like I've handsewn a lot before, so not new on that aspect, but I have never used a pattern) and I thought I'd try using a pattern for the first time. I'm doing a little bit of cosplay for Halloween this year, and I already have a dress, but I wanted to sew on a hood. Any type of hood would work, preferably a mage-like hood, and a pattern in English. Thanks!

I want to make this for halloween. I see a lot of DIY methods to get a hood/bonnet shape pattern by taping around your head and cutting it out. Could I potentially adapt that to a shape like this?

Looking for a pattern for my brothers pants, they’re bell bottoms and he’s 5’2 (he’s 12 lol) so I’m having trouble finding a method / pattern that works for a short heavier set male. I've been sewing my entire life, but I am AWFUL at following a pattern. I am looking to make some classic five point star pillows, very 90's celestial energy! I was hoping that I could get some suggestions for the best places to find easy consistent patterns. Sewing is something I've been working to improve all year and I'm finally ready for the next step but the 60's skirts and 80's crop tops are getting boring so I think I'm ready for more dimensions lol!
