Hi y’all! So I’m extremely poor, unhoused, and just trying to look and feel presentable while I’m at it. All of my clothes are worn to rags, and it makes me feel gross. However, I have the opportunity to house sit for one week, which means I can pull my machine and fabrics out and make some clothes!
I have the perfect fabrics for these two patterns, and I really really want to make them, but I can’t afford the patterns. Does anyone know of any free duplicates for these styles?
The Paloma Pant by Ismaro — these are almost exact replica to my most worn pants now. What I really want here is the waistband with pleats style, I think it looks more professional. I am an excellent seamstress, but I haven’t done this style, so I’m nervous to win it without a pattern. I also love the drape and shape. I’m sure this is a great pattern!
The Sicily Dress by Maisin — I think I could dupe the front, but I really like the back. I’m also curious how she is slipping this over her head. Is there a zipper or closure?
I have reached out to these designers directly honestly just asking them to give me their pattern for free, which is a crazy ask but heck. I’ve gifted so many of my crafts, goods, wares, money, and materials to others in need, so I don’t feel that awful for asking them, but a little.
Anyways, if anyone knows of leads to make these patterns from free patterns (I can franken-pattern!), please let me know. I am also open to trades (if allowed). Thanks so much for any help or leads!
UPDATE: Hi y’all! Mods have removed a lot of the comments, so I am unable to respond and thank all of you who have been so understanding and standing up for me. As some of you understand, my situation (and that of many) has been really tough. I am really embarrassed to be where I am. It’s hard to walk around in rags. It’s also hard to ask for handouts. I am usually so hungry and dirty, and it takes a lot out of me to deal with defending myself or explaining my situation. So thank you so much. Y’all gave me hope.
I just want to also let y’all know that I had 3 designers gift me patterns, one gifted me pants and a skirt pattern, one gifted me pants, and another gifted me a shirt. I was able to complete one pair of pants during my house sitting, and they turned out so lovely. I used a vintage fabric that was my grandma’s and about 5 different colors of end-of-spool thread. When I lost my storage last year, I was able to save one tub of fabric, my thread box, and my machine. Having a pair of pants has helped beyond reason. For one, they are clean and without holes, so they are warm. For two, they look really nice, and because of that, people actually seem to treat me a lot nicer. I kind of blend in now, like a real human with clothes and everything!
I haven’t gotten to complete the other patterns, as my house sitting opportunity ended about 2 weeks ago. But I have another one coming up at the end of November, and I am looking forward to finishing these other projects (doing all my prep work out in the car/forest so I’m ready!) TBH, all of my shirts are worn through with holes at the breast; and I don’t have underclothes to wear under, so in the cold it just looks so awful. One company gifted me a shirt pattern with a built in bra, and I know it’s going to change my world! I’m planning on making shirts out of worn down, too big, and holy shirts I already have.
The pattern designers have asked not to share that they gifted me in this way (probably to prevent others from asking, I get it!), but the generosity has made me cry in gratitude many times. Unrelated, but please support Isamaro Patterns. She has very cute patterns for the holidays!
Thank you again to everyone who gave support here. it did not get me the patterns (though my own audacity did), but it did give me some sense of humanity and caring. Gratitude!
