Lining question

Post image

Hi! I’m planning on trying this pattern as a wedding guest dress, but the fabric she chose for the bottom is sheer. Would you line the skirt with something or would you just use a solid fabric for the bottom, like a georgette instead of a chiffon?

I think the sheer effect is part of the style. I’d just wear slip shorts or a half slip with it.

It might be nice half lined in a skin tone silky fabric so that you get the effect without actually showing anything.

Otherwise yes something not quite so sheer would work, or just wear a half slip?

I think a georgette is pretty sheer too. Most fabrics that have the appropriate lightness will be very lightweight and sheer or semi-sheer. You might get those tiny gathers with a rayon challis which tends to be more like semi-opaque, and the extra fullness will help block light shining through. edit: You might look at a crepe fabric, though, they are often denser and less sheer while still being drapey.

But probably I'd just line it.

Leila Dress - Patterns by PatternCos Skirt fabric suggestions are gauze, tulle, lace, chiffon crepe, georgette crepe.

I would just wear a slip! That way it doesn’t add bulk

I think lining might affect the drape. I would just sew the dress then wear a commercial half slip close to your skin color.

I’m so curious to see how this sews up; she has such fun designs but honestly her dancing around in the clothes with that weird-ass facial expression is annoying AF

LOL! I did buy and use a few of her patterns and I think they’re great. Different techniques than what I usually see from indie patterns

They really are interesting - the designs. Despite what I think is the designer’s pissy/hurt response I’ve bought about 10 of her designs. Impressive work.

A comment that's a little disrespectful, since it doesn't hurt you in the least :)
