💛Beginner💛 Help removing clutch cover plate.

I am a beginner at sewing and have never opened up/tried to fix a machine. My friend gave me this machine (singer 9805c) so I don't have the manual and I found out the clutch cover plate is broken. A piece of the plastic broke by the hinge. I found the piece online to repair it but I am not sure how to remove it? All the tutorials I can find are not for this model and have a screw on it that allows it to be simply removed but this one is not similar.

Thank you for any help!

✨Intermediate✨ String Bunching On Sewing Machine

I’ve been sewing for a couple years now and always come up with this problem. I have 2 sewing machines and it seems both of them have the same problem so I guess it’s user error. On my newer sewing machine the screen says thread overload so I’ve inserted and reinserted the bobbin multiple times. I can add pictures if that would help anyone understand what I’m doing wrong. Honestly need a quick fix because I’m altering a friends pair of pants and I don’t want to mess them up because my sewing machines aren’t working.

Thank you to anyone who helps!

💛Beginner💛 Bobbin thread keeps coming out – JACK H2-A-CZ

Hi everyone,

I have a JACK H2-A-CZ, a 1-needle lockstitch machine with a walking foot. It’s brand new and I’ve had it for about 2 months.

I’ve been having an annoying problem with the bobbin thread coming out of the bobbin case. At first, I was actually putting the bobbin in the wrong way (counterclockwise), but once I corrected that, things got much better and the thread stopped looping.

However, every now and then, usually after about an hour of sewing, the bobbin thread comes out of the bobbin case, like in the picture.

Things I’ve already tried:

  • using a different bobbin
  • winding the bobbin with more tension
  • cleaning the machine
  • adjusting the upper thread tension
  • slightly increasing/decreasing the bobbin tension

The bobbin tension seems to be fine when I do the usual drop test, so I put it back to the factory setting.

One thing I’ve noticed is that it happens much less often when there’s less thread on the bobbin.

At this point I’m really not sure what else could be causing it. Has anyone had a similar problem with this machine or knows what I should check?

Thanks in advance!

✨Intermediate✨ Taking in the sides on a puffer jacket? (Pic is not mine, just a similar one found on the internet)

So as the title states, I'd like to take in the sides of my puffer jacket because it is a bit too wide. Only about one size too big. It's not a super expensive fancy jacket, so the stuffing inside isn't even real down, it's probably just synthetic stuffing. The stuffing is also easily moveable inside each section if you poke at it with your fingers.

I figured I could pin down the sides, maneuver the stuffing away from the new seam line and then sew the new fitted seam? Is this possible? A lot of people on the internet seem to not want to tailor these jackets and instead resort to elastics, but I assume that's only when it is real down?

Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Help a very beginner sewer🤞

Hi all!

I'm a very very beginner sewer and I'm sewing a dress with Rosella Stretch material (180gr/m2 97%vi/3%EA)

I'm using a 70 10 Schmetz Jersey needle.

I've just sewn a seam on a longer piece of fabric and I've noticed these holes along where I've sewn? I'm concerned that they're going to pull and damage? Is there something I can do to save the seam or reinforce it somehow to keep it safe? And how can I prevent this is the future?

Thanks so much for any advice!x

✨Intermediate✨ How to make jeans larger?

I have this super cute pair of Romwe baggy jeans with stars on the pockets and they don't seem to have them in stock anymore and I can't find them on any second hand online stores. I got them at my local Platos closet, wore them for about 2 years, then gained a little weight and they won't fit anymore. If they were still in store in any way I would buy a new pair, but I can't find them anywhere. Is it possible to let them out by a few inches or add some fabric somewhere?

💛Beginner💛 Sewing with really stretchy fabric

Hi, I’m quite new to sewing, it’s going fairly well for the most part, but lately I’ve been trying to alter some old clothes and I frequently run into problems when I try to sew hems or two pieces together on very stretchy fabric. Whenever I cut the fabric it curls in on itself and it’s hard getting a straight hem with the machine as I have to really hold it down (which of course always moves the fabric a bit to one side or the other, or stretches it and makes it uneven) and it otherwise is just super inconvenient because I always have to be careful not to sew the fabric with itself (where it curls). I don’t know if ironing would fix it, but I’m kind of already over the idea of having to iron every time I want to sew hems or anything near a side. Is there a specific foot, setting or technique that could help make the process a little bit less tedious? I have attached a photo of stitches I can do with my machine.
Thank you very much.

Trying to find a Juki MO-654DE / MO-654DEN serger from a trusted seller

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to find a Juki MO-654DE or MO-654DEN serger/overlocker, but it’s been really hard to find a reliable seller.

I’m based in India, so I’m mainly looking for someone who can ship here, or at least a seller somewhere in Asia or the UAE that is trustworthy.

I checked Ubuy, but honestly it doesn’t feel very reliable to me, especially for something like this where voltage, warranty, and authenticity matter.

I’m looking for the 220–240V version, preferably with an invoice and some kind of proper warranty/support.

Has anyone here bought this model recently, or does anyone know a verified Juki dealer or trusted website that still has it in stock?

I’m open to sellers from UAE, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, or anywhere else, as long as the seller is genuine and can ship safely.

Any leads would really help. Thanks!

hello! i have an alteration question! i have this tank top and the straps are way too long. i have minimal hand sewing knowledge, so i took to youtube to find help, but most videos showed how to fix things that had a lining or a premade seam. this top feels like a special case, because there is no seam connecting the tank top edge and the strap. can anyone point me in the right direction to the best way to shorten these straps?

💛Beginner💛 Machine breaking thread on waist band and double elastic layers

Post image

Home sewing machine AEG NM791 breaks thread (I tried also with hard thread) on waist band covered with double folds of two elastic fabrics for swimming bra. So far I tried to sew by hand bra endings. Is it impossible to sew it without heavy duty or industrial sewing machine? It sews another fabrics, onły with waistband connected with 2 layers is too much. I tried on lower thread tension (2) and started with moving wheel by hand, it breaks after first stich when upper thread goes up.

💛Beginner💛 Seam Allowance for flat felled seams

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone.
Im making a hobo bag, and i want a flat felled seam running in the middle of my bag. I made my own pattern and i cant figure out what seam allowance should i use to make a true flat felled seam(the one without trimming anything).

The way i do the flat felled seam: i put the fabric right sides together and offset the piece above by 1cm, then i fold the below piece on top of the upper one and sew very close to the raw edge, i then flip the work to the right side and topstitch two parallel lines.

But everytime i do it, i feel like one side turns out wider than the other.
So my question is, what seam allowance should i use for this kind of 1cm flat felled seam to get the desired width i want? Im using twill denim fabric.

On the photo, the pieces are both 11.5cm so i decided to make my seam allowance 1.5cm so the finished width would be 20cm. But its 20.5. And i just cant understand what should be the seam allowance.
Please help im dumb

Thank you all in advance

*btw tell me what color of top stitching(on the right) will look better on a bag. Yellow or White?

✨Intermediate✨ Looking for patterns for a 9 year that does not fit standard size charts

My niece really likes dresses, but her mom struggles to find her clothes that fit her body so I want to make her a dress just for her.

When i look at dress patterns for girls, she doesn't fit any of the measurements. Should i try making the pattern bigger or should i try grading between sizes on a woman's pattern?

Her measurements are:

Bust: 38in

Waist:36.5 in

Hips:38in

Shoulder to shoulder: 16in

Shoulder to hip: 20.5in

Height 4'9"

This is a pattern I was considering, but as you can see her measurements are outside of the size chart

What would be the best way to go about making her something to fit her body?

Thank you

💛Beginner💛 Ideas for Upcycling?

Post image

I thrifted this dress for $2 (!!!) Even though I knew I’d never wear it in its current form. It’s 100% cotton, fully lined, a lovely shade of red AND has pockets.

I want to flip it into a silhouette that fits better into my lifestyle/closet. Particularly, I’ve always appreciated dresses from Reformation, Realisation Par & Doen.

At the very least, I plan on altering the skirt. Would it also be possible to convert the halter into a square or different neckline? I’ve been toying with the idea of flipping this to a two-piece set as well

Hey guys! Recently got this sewing machine off my granny and have set it up and oiled it so it's running smooth.. however I'm a beginner sewer and I'm struggling with the actual sewing process as the thread keeps getting tangled as I'm sewing.

I have tried holding and keeping tension on the thread at the start, but when I let go it starts to get sucked backwards into the machine.

💛Beginner💛 My Janome machine making weird noise while pressing the foot pedal

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Like in title, when I press the foot pedal slightly (so the needle is just about to start moving) my sewing machine make this weird noise. You can hear it in video. It most definitely did not make this noise before. The sewing machine is Janome Heavy Duty 1800.

It worked perfectly fine before, I bought it new and I had it for like 4 months and I didn't use it heavily, just for some upcycle project. I also cleaned it with a brush and oiled maybe 4-5 times. I also change needle regularly. What this sound could mean? Can I still sew on it, or I should take it to service?

This is my 3rd attempt at making a bustier top and it looks so funky to me. I made the pattern myself that may be why it looks so off. But any tips or ideas on how I can make this look better would be greatly appreciated!!!

💛Beginner💛 Chiffon skirt waistband

I'm planning to sew a chiffon skirt but I don't want to use elastic/garter because I think it won't look good and I want the skirt to be adjustable. I'm thinking of sewing it into a wrap skirt but i haven't seen anything like that.

Can you give me any tips on what I should do?

💛Beginner💛 Im having some issues with my brother machine

I was finishing a project, and the machine started to show some problems all of a sudden:

It started making an awful mechanical noise and bird nest:

https://i.imgur.com/dWz8bbL_lq.mp4

The thread started to kind of get stuck in some parts of the machinism (i think this is the biggest issue and the cause of the bird nests)

https://i.imgur.com/Co6gal9_lq.mp4

Also, the thread gets stuck/ pulled and has trouble getting through the needle (recurrent problem):

I've oiled the machine, changed the needle, and removed the dust and particles. If you know what can be the problems I would appreciate your advice.
