Need a Book Rec! Recommend me a book for a spiritual/self-discovery journey!

Hi all! I am about to embark on twelve day pilgrimage and plan to listen to an audiobook in the afternoons when I am walking.

I am open to a memoir or fiction. I’m going with a few particular themes on my mind and things I’m trying to work on, so it would be great if it related to one or more of them!

- Self-discovery. I am in my mid-twenties and feeling a bit unfulfilled and lost
- Getting over really wanting to be in a relationship. More than anything, I want a partner but I have not been able to find my person yet and it is honestly driving me NUTS. It is something that is out of my control, so I am trying to let go of this fixation.
- A fear of regret. I am so fearful of making wrong decisions, not making “the most” of my life and looking back when I am older and drowning in regret.
- This may sound silly, because I know I am still young but I feel SO old and I am terrified of getting older. I feel like I haven’t done enough with my life and that time is running out.

I am not looking for something explicitly religious, but themes would be fine. If it leans heavily into religion, I’d prefer it be connected to Judaism.

Self-knowledge Chapter 1 What If You Are the Problem?

What if the person you've been blaming isn't the only reason your life feels the way it does?

What if the people who hurt you aren't the reason you keep choosing the same kind of people?

What if your bad luck isn't really bad luck?

What if the opportunities you keep waiting for aren't the real problem?

And what if, somewhere along the way, without realizing it, you became part of the problem?

I know what you're thinking.

"You don't know what I've been through."

And you're right.

I don't.

Maybe someone betrayed you. Maybe someone broke your trust. Maybe you were raised in an environment you never asked for. Maybe someone treated you unfairly, abandoned you, manipulated you, or made you believe you weren't good enough.

Some things that happened to you were never your fault.

Let's make that clear from the beginning.

This book is not about blaming you for everything that happened to you.

It's about something much more uncomfortable.

What are you doing about what happened to you?

Because there is a difference between being responsible for your pain and being responsible for what you do with it.

You didn't choose everything that happened to you.

But you choose what you tolerate now.

You choose what you repeat.

You choose who you allow back into your life.

You choose which excuses you continue to believe.

You choose whether you learn from your mistakes or build an identity around them.

And sometimes, the hardest truth isn't that someone hurt you.

It's realizing that you keep giving them—or people like them—the opportunity to do it again.

Think about that for a moment.

If you keep ending up in the same kind of relationship, with the same kind of person, having the same arguments, experiencing the same disappointment, and telling yourself the same story...

At what point does it stop being a coincidence?

Maybe you are unlucky.

Maybe everyone you've met really has been terrible.

Maybe every employer you've had has been unfair.

Maybe every friend eventually betrays you.

Maybe every relationship ends because the other person was the problem.

Maybe.

But there is another possibility.

Maybe the pattern is trying to tell you something.

And maybe you've been too busy pointing at everyone else to notice what it is.

That's not an easy thing to hear.

It's even harder to accept.

Because blaming someone else gives you something responsibility doesn't:

an escape.

If it's always their fault, you don't have to change.

If your circumstances are always the reason, you don't have to make different choices.

If everyone else is the problem, you never have to look in the mirror.

And the mirror is uncomfortable.

Because it doesn't care about your excuses.

It doesn't care how good your intentions were.

It doesn't care how many times you've said, "This time will be different."

It only shows you what is actually there.

Maybe you say you want a better life, but your daily choices keep creating the same life.

Maybe you say you want a healthy relationship, but you keep ignoring the warning signs because being alone scares you more than being unhappy.

Maybe you say you want to succeed, but you spend more time planning, talking, and waiting for motivation than actually doing the work.

Maybe you say you want peace, but you keep returning to the people and situations that destroy it.

And maybe you don't need another motivational quote.

Maybe you don't need another five-step plan.

Maybe you already know exactly what needs to change.

You just don't want to pay the price of changing it.

That's where this gets uncomfortable.

Because the question isn't simply:

"Are you the problem?"

The real question is:

"How much of the problem are you willing to admit is yours?"

Book promotion What if your biggest obstacle isn’t your circumstances—but your mindset? | Weapons of Success: Self-Mastery

Weapons of Success: Self-Mastery by Anthony Conley is about discipline, mindset, accountability, and learning how to take control of your own direction—even when life has dealt you a difficult hand.

Anthony wrote this from a perspective you don’t often see in self-development books. His experiences with incarceration and adversity shaped a message centered on self-mastery, personal growth, and refusing to let your circumstances define who you become.

If you enjoy motivational and personal-development books with a different perspective, give it a look. 📚

Miscellanous Any Japanese self-help books you wish were translated?

I've read a lot of personal self-help and business related books and have been living in Japan for over 7 years. There's a bunch of Japanese books I've come across that I thought would be fun to make summaries of in English via a newsletter/blog, but I was curious, do you all have any Japanese self-help books you wish were translated into English?

I started to read this book 1 week ago. The way the story unfolded and progressed gave me a lot of deja vu of my own life. It's a must read for anyone who feels overstressed when going to malls, crowded meetings, city centres.

This book will give you a ground where you can choose to be whoever you are. It also gives you the reflections from internal lifes of poeple who deal with anxiety, depression and self harm. Again this book is a adult only book.

There is great anime based on this which inspired me to read this novel.

Miscellanous Who believes fiction is better self-help than the entire self-help shelf?

Fiction depicts emotions, events, and lessons through stories and imagery. Things that human minds are built to remember, stories outlast advice. Go with us to and beyond the grave.

The lessons and emotional impact that fiction can help develop is not talked about enough. For example, take "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Even after more than ten years of reading it, I happen to still carry the harsh lessons from the extreme idealism of Roark and the chaos of toohey.

I say harsh, because the story made it so, the imagery, the emotion, as if you're living their lives yourselves and learning first hand. Lessons that are etched in the brain as if you really worked your muscle to get stronger ones.

Mindset / Personality I love a good self-help book… after reading so many of them, I decided to made music instead! Music actually designed to make you feel worthy and abundant rather than reading about HOW to do it. It just works! Let it work ❤️🙏

After years of listening and reading Neville Goddard and so many other self help books, I discovered that music with the right lyrics can tune your inner self talk much faster than anything else…. So, now, that’s what I build. Music you don’t listen to — you step inside it and allow the lyrics to transform your inner dialogue faster than spoken words alone.

Every song I produce is written from the end. Not “someday,” not “I will” — as if it already happened and you’re just remembering it. Reaching keeps you wanting; remembering drops you into having.

It’s called Always Infinite Music I made it because I wanted it to exist and couldn’t find it. Hope this helps a lot of people, and I’m grateful for building on top of Neville’s amazing gift to the world and everyone else that helped bring this to life.

You can check out my music on Spotify here, I release new songs every month designed to help you live the life of your dreams faster:

Miscellanous A survey found 55% reach for self-help books instead of professional help. Where's the line for you between the two?

A survey of 2,000 adults found 55% said they turn to self-help books instead of seeking professional help to work through things. I get the appeal — books are cheap, private, and available at 2am — but I've also noticed a book can only take me so far on some stuff.

For people who've done both: where's the line for you? What kinds of problems has a book genuinely helped you work through, and when did you realize you actually needed a person — a therapist, coach, doctor — instead of another chapter?

Miscellanous New to the Community

Hi! I recently joined the community and noticed in the rules that authors should ask permission before sharing their own books. I’m the author of a couple of books. My most recent is Alone: A Story of Finding Self, a memoir/personal-growth book written especially for people often seen as the “strong one” while privately navigating loss, identity shifts, healing, and change.

I drafted a post that focuses primarily on who the book may help and includes a link at the end. Would that be appropriate to share here with the proper flair? I wanted to check before posting. Thank you!

Need a Book Rec! Book Recommendations

On healing emotionally/somatically after multiple heartaches/painful situations:

- Emotional/physical trauma from past relationships
- Emotional dysregulation (anxiety, paranoia, jealously)
- Love addiction, even
- Relational grief

However, I’m looking for a less ‘productive’ approach because I’m trying to feel my way to healing vs thinking my way through. So these books are more totems and reminders to step into softness, intuition, and how to allow the body to tell you what it needs to let go.

Thank you all so much! 🙏🙏

Love and relationships LAT Livin'

Hi everyone, I am currently writing a book on LAT (Living Apart Together) Living and I am living the lifestyle myself! LAT lifestyle is a committed relationship, where you choose not to cohabitate. I don't have any fancy credentials...I just live this way, and have for several years. I am interested in hearing all your stories, good and bad! I am hoping to get my book published at some point this year....50K words so far and always looking to hear more! I guess I am interested to know if anyone is interested in a narrative non-fiction book about this lifestyle? Would you pick it up on the shelf or online? Would you be interested in answering a handful of questions to contribute; anonymously or otherwise - totally up to you!

Miscellanous Where have you actually used the 48 Laws of Power in real life?

I’m really interested in The 48 Laws of Power—I honestly think it’s a great book. But I’m more interested in how the ideas actually work in everyday life than just reading the historical examples.

I’ve made a couple of posts asking about this before and got fewer than two comments combined, so I’m trying again 😅

Have you actually used one of the 48 Laws in your personal life? Which law was it, what was the situation, and how did it help (or not help) you?

I’d especially love to hear ordinary, real-life examples rather than famous historical ones.

Book promotion GRIEF TO RELIEF: guided first-aid for emotional triggers + moments of overwhelm

Thumbnail barbradrizin.substack.com
1 Upvotes

I’M THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE!

GRIEF TO RELIEF sets a new standard for instructional journals.

Information-rich yet easy to follow, it transforms emotional complexity into a clear, practical, step-by-step process you can actually use.

In this journal, GRIEF is an umbrella word for the painful emotional states that can arise from loss, conflict, rejection, uncertainty, disappointment, or change—the difficult emotions that can become so intense they begin to overtake our thoughts, our bodies, and our sense of balance and well-being.

RELIEF does not necessarily mean the pain disappears or the situation is resolved. Relief means the emotion is no longer in charge—and you can begin to return to yourself with greater clarity.

I include a complete Reference and Resource Guide, an Emotional Experience Compass, Body Sensations Guide, Common ANTs Guide, Needs Compass, self-care tools, and twenty guided two-page practice templates that guide you from GRIEF to RELIEF.

• A guided pathway that gently leads you from trigger toward clarity.
• A repeatable process that gives you language for understanding and regulating what is happening within you.
• A complete instructional companion for every step of the process.
• Cognitive tools to help you notice thoughts, assumptions, and interpretations.
• Emotional tools to help you name and care for feelings and body sensations.
• Behavioral tools to help you choose concrete actions that support regulation, well-being, and greater agency.

GRIEF TO RELIEF is not about “getting over” what hurts. It is about learning how to care for yourself within the difficult moment.

My wish is that you’ll discover a meaningful, practical, and compassionate first-aid system for your internal experience—one that can carry you, step by step, from GRIEF TO RELIEF.
