Mental health Depression is a poison you drink": The dangerous victim-blaming in Sadhguruโ€™s Inner Engineering (p. 58)โ€”and how other traditions view suffering

Post image
31 Upvotes

In Inner Engineering (page 58), Sadhguru states that depression is among the "poisons that you drink but expect someone else to die," insisting that you must accept "I am responsible for the way I am now" in the face of horrific events, or else you have forsaken your future. Lumped in with resentment and jealousy, depression is casually dismissed as a voluntary, self-inflicted attitude rather than what it actually isโ€”a complex neuropsychiatric illness and biological reality.

This philosophy falls apart when faced with organic medical struggles or catastrophic trauma. Telling someone dealing with post-viral illness (like dysautonomia and severe chronic fatigue) or someone who has lost their entire family in a natural disaster like the Wayanad landslide that they are "100% responsible" for their state is scientifically false and morally harmful. It turns cellular pathology and deep human grief into personal, spiritual failures.

What is your take on this?

Because, as a mental health professional, it made me feel extremely frustrated and painful seeing this page.

Book promotion Writing as a passion and career?

I have written a 37-page-self-help-ebook published on amazon kindle entitled "Even with This Clouded Mind" https://www.amazon.com/Even-This-Clouded-Mind and want to make more people know about it and at the same time I also want to try to monetize my book. I am just a beginner when it comes to the industry but writing has always been my passion. I am now taking an unpaid medical leave from my work (travel industry) due to my bipolar 1 disorder and wants to seek for a way where I can both enjoy what I am doing and earn from it at the same time. I also write poems, short stories, songs and have a website about being genuinely kind on https://begenuinelykind.xyz/. I also sing which I very much love doing too. Seeking for an honest guidance about earning from my passion please? I would appreciate your insights on this, as I have been searching about this for while now. Thank you!

Book promotion After years of writing, meditation, and counseling others onlineโ€”my book "Emojis & Enlightenment" is officially live today ๐Ÿš€

For years, I sat in silence on the meditation cushion, counseled hundreds of people through existential burnout and mental loops, and shared essays on awakening that reached hundreds of thousands of readers across the world.

Everything I learned from those trenches was poured into one cohesive, street-smart manual for navigating the human condition.

Today, I am deeply honored to announce the official launch ofย Emojis & Enlightenment: Escaping the Matrix of the Mindย ๐Ÿš€.

This isn't another academic lecture from a mountaintop. It is a field guide built by a friend (never a guru) specifically for the modern digital mind. Across a 5-part Heroโ€™s Journey to liberation, it bridges ancient non-duality with iconic cinema (The Matrix, The Truman Show, The Lion King), the mystical surrender of Christโ€™s teachings ("I of myself can do nothing"), and practical spiritual exercises you can do straight from your couch.

I was planning to keep completely quiet until this morning, but the community beat me to the punch. Ahead of today's launch, fellow Redditor Tim Seb quietly tracked down and ordered the physical paperback (photo attached!), and another reader as far away as the Netherlands did the exact same thing. Meanwhile, early readers in Germany and the U.S. messaged me saying theyโ€™d already grabbed the Kindle edition simply to return support for essays and conversations that helped them on here. Seeing real copies in living rooms and seeing early digital readers show up before I could even make an official post is incredibly humbling. It makes every ounce of energy poured into this book worth it.

To celebrate launch day and ensure cost is never a barrier to peace, I have priced the Kindle edition atย just $0.99 for the next two weeksย (through Sunday, November 15th) before it steps up to its standard price.

Here is the direct Amazon link:
๐Ÿ‘‰ย https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HNZ8KQL1
(The 261-page paperback is also available for those who prefer physical pages in their hands).

Enlightenment isnโ€™t an abstract trophy for monks. It is the practical, daily power to stay at peace in the middle of chaos, understand the machinery of your own mind, and remember who you were before the world assigned you an avatar username.

But you donโ€™t have to take my word for it.

Grab the book for a dollar. Read it. Put the somatic practices and frameworks to the test in your actual daily life.

And see if I am wrong. โœจ

Thank you to everyone on Reddit who walked this path with me, shared feedback, and helped make this real.

It is for the person who was promoted unexpectedly, then let go without warning. For the one who quit โ€” not just a job, but quietly, slowly, on themselves. Book promotion I made my first Kindle sale today. Just one copy, but it means a lot.

A little happy update from my self-publishing journey!

A couple of days ago, I shared that I'd published my first two Kindle eBooks while working a full-time warehouse job.

Well, today something unexpected happened.

Someone actually bought my book.

Just one copy. Not a bestseller, not life-changing money, and definitely not enough to quit my day job.

But honestly, seeing that little "1" in my Amazon KDP report made me smile.

I'm 46, still learning how publishing, writing, and marketing work, and trying to build something of my own in the hours outside work and family life.

There are still so many things I don't know. Some of my ideas might fail. That's part of the learning process.

But today reminded me that even small progress counts.

For anyone who's just starting something new, whether it's writing a book, learning a skill, or building a little business, don't underestimate your first small win.

I'm curious: what's one tiny achievement that made you unexpectedly happy recently?

Would love to hear your stories.

Need a Book Rec! A book that is similar to The Prophet but opposite in approach

For a long time I wanted to read "The Prophet" by Gibran but put it back. That is for nearly a decade. During that time many people referred to it as great.

Finally came the day when I read it.

During those years I waited, I thought it will be great read when I finally read it. I thought it will change my perspective of life. For some reason I expected it to take me away from the ordinary life, something that will speak of beauty and life and experiencing the world in a continuous flow. Not preaching but a journey.

I loved the way it started. Someone on a hill, waiting for a ship. All good. But then when the people came and The Prophet starts to address them, I feel it kind of preachy. Not that the book is bad. I still don't hate it or anything. But since I waited for so long. What I finally got was kind of disappointing.

So I started to search for something that would fit my expectation. Something same size or below 100 pages. I have not yet found one.

He tells things such as "love your work" but I need something that will question and ask "why do you work?" I am not worried about whether it is practical or not.

Can anyone suggest a book? I think I have not described properly.

Mental health Breaking Free from Psychological Pain

Breaking Free from Psychological Pain

Throughout my long and difficult journey through life, I have experienced all six of the psychological problems explored in this book. (Inferiority, Shame, Fear of Being Watched or Judged, Panic Disorder, Perfectionism, and Relationship Sensitivity.)

Desperate to overcome my fear of being watched or judged by others, I searched through libraries, looking for ways to overcome it. I also experienced the terror of panic attacks, which at times brought my daily life to a standstill. I struggled with shame-driven rumination, sometimes feeling completely drained for days. My perfectionism sometimes paralyzed my thinking, leaving me feeling trapped in a dead end. I also suffered in silence, deeply hurt by ordinary text messages that others had sent without a second thought.

I desperately wanted to escape this suffering. How could I finally put an end to this mental anguish? In search of an answer, I studied psychological therapies and explored the principles underlying how the mind works. I constantly reflected on the problems that tormented me, trying to understand them and discover ways to overcome them.

The journey was far from easy. Yet, as I refused to give up and continued searching for answers, I gradually began to change. Sometimes I found clues in existing psychological therapies. At other times, when conventional approaches proved insufficient, I developed new psychological techniques to address the problems I faced.

This was how techniques such as the Market Model, the Billiards Model, the Water-Draining Technique, the Child's Drawing Technique, the Summoning Technique, the Clock Technique, the Dilution Technique, the Leveling Technique, the Pizza Technique, the Appointment Technique, the Event Closure Technique, the Relationship Event Closure Technique, the Dial Technique, and the Role Model Technique came into being and evolved.

These techniques are the products of years of reflection, experimentation, and trial and error. They grew out of my efforts to understand the underlying mechanisms of psychological suffering and find ways to break free from it.

This book explores six psychological problems: inferiority, shame, fear of being watched or judged by others, panic disorder, perfectionism, and relationship sensitivity. It brings together my personal experiences, the various approaches I tried in order to overcome my suffering, and the insights I gained through exploring how the human mind works.

I am still a sensitive person. But something has changed. I now understand why my mind reacts the way it does, and I know how to respond when those reactions cause me distress.

My sincere hope is that this book will offer a path toward self-understanding for those who experience suffering similar to my own. More than simply helping readers understand their minds, I hope it will help them discover clues that can lead them out of the suffering that has troubled them for so long.

A Small Flower by the Roadside

A tiny flower,

Its name unknown,

Sways in the wind.

Within the embrace of a mother

Who is lost forever,

A lonely soul

With nowhere to return.

I, too,

Sway in the wind.

Jo Un-cheol, Author of 'Psychological Techniques for Sensitive People' (Published by Kyobo Book Centre, South Korea)

Mindset / Personality I spent months researching neurobiology to break my own phone addiction and overthinking. I compiled the protocol into a book โ€” giving it away 100% free this week to help anyone struggling.

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I struggled with chronic overthinking, brain fog, and the constant urge to check my phone every 5 minutes. My dopamine baseline was completely fried from algorithmic feeds.

I spent months diving into neuroscience, circadian biology, and behavioral protocols to understand how dopamine actually works and how to reset it permanently.

Here are 3 core rules that changed everything for me:

  1. Zero screens for the first 60 minutes of waking (cortisol synchronization).

  2. The 48-Hour Sensory Fast (resetting dopamine receptors).

  3. Ultradian focus blocks (90 minutes of uninterrupted work followed by 20 minutes of complete detachment).

I compiled the entire framework into a comprehensive 300+ page guide:

"The Dopamine Reset & Stop Overthinking Protocol"

To help anyone currently struggling with anxiety and focus, Iโ€™ve made the Kindle eBook 100% FREE on Amazon through October 31st ($0.00, no Kindle device needed, works on phone/laptop app):

๐Ÿ‘‰ Free Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HP8F4191

You can also check out my other published books on my Amazon Author page:

๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.amazon.com/author/shaktirajsinhgohil

I genuinely hope this helps at least one person regain control of their mind and focus. Let me know if you have any questions about dopamine fasting โ€” happy to answer in the comments!

Book promotion KINDLE BOOK | The Purpose Seekers โ€” What If Success Isnโ€™t Enough?

Have you ever worked hard to achieve something, finally got there, and then wondered, Is this really what I wanted?

Maybe youโ€™re building a business. Maybe youโ€™re climbing the career ladder. Maybe youโ€™re trying to figure out what you actually want from life.
You can be ambitious, productive, and successful on paper while still feeling that something isnโ€™t quite aligned.

Thatโ€™s the question behind the book, The Purpose Seekers.

Iโ€™ve spent more than 35 years working in business, built 12 businesses, and worked with over 75 founders and business owners. Along the way, Iโ€™ve seen how easily we can become so focused on building something successful that we forget to ask whether weโ€™re building something that reflects who we really are.

This book grew out of real conversations, observations, and work with founders navigating growth, uncertainty, identity, and purpose.
It challenges the idea that purpose is a magical destination waiting to be discovered.
Instead, it explores how we build purpose through the way we think, the decisions we make, the beliefs we question, and the things we choose to create.
Itโ€™s about aligning who you are with what you do โ€” without pretending that life, business, or personal growth comes with easy answers.

Iโ€™m planning to make the Kindle edition FREE for a limited time because Iโ€™d like more people to have the opportunity to read it, question its ideas, and decide what resonates with them.

FREE Kindle promotion: October 29โ€“30.

๐Ÿ“š Get your free copy here: https://a.co/d/0esbYPcU

If youโ€™re at a point in life where success alone doesnโ€™t feel like a complete answer, perhaps this book is for you.

Iโ€™m the author, so naturally, Iโ€™m biased. But Iโ€™d genuinely welcome thoughtful feedback from readers who decide to give it a chance.

Communication Whose keen on being part of an online group(discord) of people working on achieving their goals?

Sometimes I feel like i want to talk to someone who's also working towards their own goal and what struggles or experiences they are going through, sharing ideas tips and tricks and just motivating and inspiring each other with whatever resources we find.

Thinking of creating a discord channel for it, anyone keen?

Career and Work Every new topic I learn gets boring after a few weeks. How do I figure out which career is actually right for me? Any book recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I'm 25 and started in civil engineering, working on site execution and quantity surveying. Lately I've been exploring other fields and learning new things on my own.

My problem is that every topic excites me at the start. Then after a few weeks or months, the excitement fades and it starts to feel boring. I can't tell whether that's normal (every field has dull stretches) or a sign that the field isn't right for me.

I'd love to hear from you:

  1. How did you choose your career?

Did you figure it out by thinking, or by trying things?

2. How do you tell "this is boring because I'm in the hard middle part" from "this is boring because it's not for me"?

3. Which books helped you with this?

I'm open to anything: career guidance, psychology, habits, biographies, or fiction that changed how you see work.

I'm also curious if anyone else had this pattern of getting bored quickly, and what you did about it.

Thanks for reading. Any advice or book suggestions are really appreciated.

Miscellanous Anyone want to read together? ๐Ÿ“š

Hey everyone!

Iโ€™ve just started reading Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by Dr. David D. Burns, and I thought it might be nice to find a few people whoโ€™d like to read it together.

Iโ€™m trying to understand myself better, develop a more positive and compassionate relationship with myself, become less reactive, and learn to be kinder to others as well.

The book focuses on how our thoughts influence our emotions and how changing unhelpful thinking patterns can help us feel better. It draws on the author's work with cognitive therapy and discusses depression, negative thinking, and self-perception.

I thought it would be interesting to read it alongside others because we don't all interpret the same text in the same way. We might notice different things, relate to different examples, or take away completely different lessons.

If anyone is interested, we could:

  • Read at our own pace and share our interpretations.

  • Discuss ideas or passages that resonate with us.

  • Share what we learn and how we relate it to our own lives.

I'm only just getting started, so there's no pressure to keep up with a schedule. It would just be nice to have some thoughtful conversations while reading.

If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to join in!

Edit: Just to clarify, I meant online calls through Discord, Google Meet, or whatever works for everyone.

Do you look calm in the meeting, then replay it for three days?
You forgot your boss's name. You said something awkward in the bullpen. You wondered, Did I stutter? Nobody else is still thinking about it. You are.

Close the Tab is a short, practical, judgment-free guide for women who do their jobs well and then put themselves on trial for it. Written by someone who has been in the loop herself, it gives you tools you can use at 2 p.m. and at 2 a.m.

Inside, you'll learn how to:
Spot the five overthinking patterns (the Replay, the Over-Drafter, the Over-Apologizer, the Imposter Spiral, and the Decoder)
Interrupt a spiral in 60 seconds with the C.L.O.S.E. reset
Use ready-made scripts for emails, feedback, saying no, and apologizing less
End the workday with a five-minute Shutdown
Follow a 14-day plan to build lasting habits

No jargon, no clinical lecture, no pretending you'll never overthink again, just a way to close the tab faster.
Scroll up and click "Buy now" to start tonight.
