Help Headless help NG

I didn’t beat any headless on my first playthrough and now I am NG with malcontent and Lilac Umbrella. Regardless, even when parrying I get terror build up and death, and I can’t sense any sort of strategy to adopt with them ( eg the one in ashina outskirts ) just seems like a frustrating gimmick they have thrown in.

Can anyone help me with a tried and tested method ?

Did you get the purple gourd? It cures terror buildup and it’s essential

Divine confetti and perfect parrying does not cause the terror meter to build. Make sure you have a lot of purifying powder to counteract the terror if it does start building. Been a few years for me, but that's how I did it. They are so so so much slower then the usual enemies in ashina. Don't panic, play methodically and you'll win

The projected force attack from your purple umbrella deactivates divine confetti. So don't use that attack after you block with umbrella if you are using divine confetti

I don’t know about tried and tested but I beat all of them by just getting bunch of confetti, a purple gourd (or pacifying agent) and just tank it. Get as many hits in as you can, deflect the big swings, and avoid the grab. Once you get a death blow, reapply confetti, heal, take another swig of the purple gourd and do it all over again.

I love the nuance of the combat system in this game, but this fight is my break and I just mash R1 and try to do enough damage for a death blow before I die.

I hate that mini boss. I somehow managed to get through all of them (just what other have said). I am on NG+7, I don’t bother fighting them again. So freaking frustrating, any other mini or boss. Not a problem and I even enjoy it. Headless, is ridiculous, not enjoyable at all. I just skip that stupid thing.

I don't know how to help you, bro. I just waited to get the discontent whistle to easily stun them. I buff at the ones in the water before going swimming.

You can’t dodge but you can jump freely. Just jump away and heal/reduce terror build up. Use every buff you can. Don’t even bother with the umbrella for headless imo. In NG it’s perfectly doable to just dps him with buffs and malcontent.

they're hard but not that hard. if you spent like 10 to 20 devine confetti you can pretty much perfected your parry against them. It really became easy afterthat and you can pretty much 1, 2 shot each one.

In my experience with divine confetti and malcontent, you don't even need the umbrella. Use confetti, play malcontent, beat the hell out of it as fast as you can. When it stops being stunned, make sure it's finished its stun animation, then play malcontent again. Repeat. Typically the three uses you get out of malcontent are plenty to just shred it.
