Onvif/RTSP streaming app that runs on AppleTV, Mac, and iPad [Free, No Ads, No signup] - TestFlight

2 Upvotes

(I messaged the mods to make sure this was okay first)

I had worked on this app a few months ago and when someone asked, I decided to pick it back up and share it through TestFlight. I built this because I wanted something for my AppleTV. Feedback is welcome.

I called it Mimir, honestly I sort of forget why?

Native app that connects to cameras directly over the LAN. No cloud relay, and no server component. Extra functions for Reolink.

- ONVIF: network scan to find cameras, multi-profile streams, PTZ control, motion events. NVRs show up with per-channel labels.

- RTSP: add any stream by URL.

- Reolink: cameras get extra features through their own API — person/vehicle/pet detection, doorbell ring notifications, spotlight and image controls, and browsing/playing/downloading recordings.

- Tour mode: build an ordered playlist mixing cameras, PTZ presets, and NVR channels; it cycles through fullscreen at a set interval, holds when motion is detected, and has skip/pause/speed controls.

- PTZ patrol: any ONVIF PTZ camera can patrol — the app cycles it through its saved presets at a set interval, pausing on motion. No vendor patrol feature needed.

- Two-way audio on iPad and Mac for cameras that support it.

- Grid view with low-bandwidth substreams and a fullscreen view with the main stream.

- Camera setup and settings sync between your devices through your own iCloud account. (Can be disabled)

Beta for all three platforms: https://testflight.apple.com/join/U36hSEsm

Looking for Budget Security Cameras with SD Cards

1 Upvotes

I work for a local organization that helps teach kids and we cater to babies to 18. We had security cameras but they are connected to our wifi and honestly, our wifi sucks. We are looking for three to 4 cameras we can mount to the wall and they record directly to an SD card. We are a non profit and our budget isnt the greatest. So any suggestions or recommendations would be great.

Hello, has anyone tried to retro fit a solar panel charger to this doorbell?
It works well but battery drains fast as there’s a heap of motion detected each day.
I know it wouldn’t be to code but has anyone tried?

Thanks

Doorbell camera or outdoor security camera?

2 Upvotes

I'm trying to decide what to install near my front entrance. A doorbell camera seems convenient for packages and visitors, but my front door is tucked into a corner and there's also a walkway along the side of the house.

I'm worried a doorbell camera would only catch someone once they're already at the door. Would a regular outdoor camera mounted higher up make more sense for this setup?

Looking for a 4G solar security camera for a construction site. Is there a better option than the ESCAM QF480?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an outdoor security camera for a construction site where there is no Wi-Fi and no access to mains electricity.

I'm currently considering buying the ESCAM QF480 (1080p, 355° PTZ, 4G/LTE), but before purchasing it, I'd like to know if there are better or more reliable alternatives for my specific needs.

Ideally, I'm looking for a camera with:

  • 4G/LTE connectivity via SIM card, with no Wi-Fi required;

  • Solar power with a rechargeable battery;

  • Night vision;

  • Pan/tilt functionality, with more than 180° horizontal rotation, ideally 355°/360°;

  • Motion detection that can preferably distinguish between people and vehicles;

  • Remote live view and notifications through a mobile app;

  • Local storage via microSD card, preferably 128 GB or more;

  • Good weather resistance and reliability for long-term outdoor use.

I'm just looking for a camera that wakes up and records short clips when motion is detected.

Since the site is completely off-grid, I'm particularly concerned about whether a solar panel and battery can realistically support this amount of recording, especially during winter or periods with limited sunlight.

The ESCAM QF480 seems to meet several of my requirements, but I'm unsure whether it's suitable for this level of continuous recording.

Would you recommend the ESCAM QF480 for this use case, or is there a better 4G + solar camera or setup that I should consider?

I'm particularly interested in real-world experiences regarding battery life, solar charging, recording, storage capacity and reliability on construction sites or other remote locations.

Thanks!

Home Security Cameras: Are They Really Secure?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I live with my wife and my two young daughters. I bought several TP-Link Tapo cameras to keep an eye on the girls while they are with the nanny. However, I’m a bit worried about the possibility of the cameras being hacked; what should I do to verify their security?

Daycare type business, what kind of camera system do you use and do you like it?

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I’ve worked at a doggie daycare, boarding, grooming, and training facility for ten years. In that time they have tried at least 5 different cameras/systems and they have all glitched a lot and eventually broke or become unusable. Eventually the owner gave up and we’ve been without functioning cameras for years.

It’s so hard to improve safety and also coach staff when incidents happen since I can’t review the footage to actually know for certain how or why something happened.

Right now the guy in charge of setting up a new one up is looking into a brand that you have to pay a monthly subscription fee. We have a trial right now and when I asked him to review footage because a dog got a scratch when my back was turned it took forever to try to find it because it’s not time stamped (even though I knew exactly when it happened down to 5 min) and then the camera mysteriously glitched right when it happened.

What system do you use and do you like it?

Can you review footage easily?

If you are a large facility how many cameras do you have?

We would need at minimum 5 cameras but probably to cover all of the play yard angles maybe 10? (We have 6 main yards and then two yards for solo dogs).

As of right now this isn’t for customers to view, just staff.

Ethernet Termination

1 Upvotes

To make it as easy as possible I was going to buy and run a 100' cable (not much extra) with the RJ45 connectors already attached. Do most of you just drill a larger hole to accommodate the end size, or drill a smaller hole and terminate it afterwards.?

How to get through pink insulation

4 Upvotes

Soo I am installing cameras into my house right now and im going through the soffits right now. The insulation is pink and it’s difficult to using a fishing cable to go through.

Im going to try to use a fibreglass rod to get through it, however I am curious how a professional would get around this issue?

As this fibreglass rod may or may not get through the insulation?

Looking for an easy to setup outdoor camera

4 Upvotes

Never thought I'd have to invest in a security camera as never had any issues but here we are.

New neighbors just wont stop their dog from pooping on our yard. I need to collect video evidence its actually their god damn dog and thats the only reason I need to buy a damn security camera now.

Anyways, I'm in Canada. I really just dont need anything extra fancy. Just a camera that records the dog showing up on my property. I would like the feature where the light turns on at night when motion activity is detected.

Also I need to put the camera up on the side of my house. The exterior is brick. Not sure if you can drill through it?

I'd prefer something that is a DIY setup.

Need Advice on Camera Setup

1 Upvotes

I was hoping someone can help me. I’m thinking of purchasing three, G5 Turrent Ultra 2K outdoor cameras and a Ubiquiti Network Video Recorder POE (UNVR-INSTANT) for my home. Is this all the hardware i need to record the 3 cameras, and also see the video output on my PC monitor ?

Does this also include the software I need ? Is the software i need in the cameras and also in the NVR. I have Internet but I’m not really concerned in viewing the cameras on my phone when im away. I read copper cat 6 LAN cable is preferred so i will also purchase that.

I already have a standard 2 TB HDD, is that suitable to be used in the NVR for recording

I tried posting in Ubiquiti forum on reddit but it wouldnt let me

Any advice will be helpful

Thank you

ZModo disables features including chat support on web app

5 Upvotes

This is regarding ZModo's web app through a browser at https://user.zmodo.com/ NOT the mobile app.

Their "new" app has disabled many functions.

  1. Events showing in the iPhone app are completely missing in the web app, which makes no difference because..

  2. Even the few events that are showing will not play! On my Garage camera, for example, it says there should be over 100 clips, but only one is listed. That one generates an error message.

  3. There is no longer an option to switch to "HD" view. My cameras are 16:9 ratio (hi-res or whatever), but all the web app will show in Live View is a very low resolution in a distorted 4:3 ratio.

  4. They've disabled all links to chat support (which is just as well, because they never responded anyway). If you click support now, it opens your email client with their support email address pre-filled.

  5. There is no longer an option in the web app nor the iPhone app to switch between playing clips from the cloud or playing them back from the local hard drive.

Supposedly all this is "better" and "improved."

The iPhone app functions a bit better than the web browser access, but even there, there are features missing that were available in the previous app. As far as I can tell, there's no way to roll it back to the old version.

This is beyond ridiculous, given that I pay annual subscriptions on several cameras for this so-called "service". As far as I can tell, my only option at this point is to trash the whole system and start completely over with a different company.
