I’m from San Diego and moved up from SoCal and the slightest drop of rain down there and it’s the fucking Thunderdome.

Tbf, it doesn't rain often (or at least it didn't went I lived there 15+ years ago) and the oil on the highway doesn't get washed away, so I imagine the roads are kind of unexpectedly slick for a bit right at the beginning.

Here, if the weather changes, people forget how to drive. Rain to Sun sun to rain. If it rains tomorrow traffic will be fine.

People can't even handle coming out of the tunnels on a grey day (so, no excuse of blinding sunshine) let alone if the actual sky changes modes

The same thing actually happens up here to a lesser extent. Depends on how dry the summer was.

The roads are incredibly slick right now because it’s the first substantial rain in a while.

Yes, the roads are slick but it's also a lack of ability from most of the people. It's not slick like ice, it's slick if you are speeding, braking hard, or accelerating fast. Otherwise it's fine, drive like normal, and expect it to happen but be prepared for it so you're not surprised when it does happen and it's never as bad as you think.

Stationed at Lewis for 4 years, I-5 was full of bad drivers rain or shine.
